I side with the survivors of flight 52. The airport bosses demanding controllers to land 33 planes in that weather was irresponsible. Then having controllers pass planes off to other controllers repeatedly was also irresponsible. Priority means priority! Put first! Claiming they didn't state an emergency is a poor excuse to avoid blame. I hope the survivors and families of the dead were appropriately compensated. May the souls of the lost in both of these accidents rest in peace. 🙏🕊️

That crash has always bothered me since i first saw an episode (not sure if it was this exact one or another program) but like HOW?? How could they demand a certain number of planes land In dangerous weather? How in the world was that ever deemed an acceptable approach?! Flying is considered to be very safe, i often hear that driving in a car is more dangerous….but there are already so many things that can cause a catastrophic and deadly situation on a plane that are totally uncontrollable. For example, the delta flight that was slammed to the ground by the the microburst. Or fire caused by cargo that takes the plane down, no fault of the pilots. Totally uncontrollable things can happen. With all those things to potentially worry about, why would they take a controllable situation - they knew the weather was dangerous - delay the flight, people may get mad but guess what ? They’re alive. Why encourage pilots and ATCs to stress and worry about doing things as quick as possible in order to hit a quota?! That’s insane. They are making decisions that mean the difference between life and death even when it doesn’t seem like big decisions. If pilots are rushed and ATCs are over worked and not paying attention enough or simply not trained correctly, bad things are bound to happen!!!

      @sawyerawr5783 10 месяцев назад +3

The pilots didn't specifically say they were out of fuel. it's not on the ground controllers to monitor that. "Pan Pan" doesn't cut it when you're flying on empty. you say Mayday, Mayday, Mayday, fuel emergency. Every plane in the sky that night was running low. a Mayday call would've alerted to the ATC to the fact that "oh hell, this guy needs to get down now."
I won't say that the ATC handling didn't contribute...however, at the end of the day, it's on the pilots for poor communication and mishandling their fuel state.

@@Jw_617Flew from Los Angeles to Tulsa last week. A bunch of us missed our flight because of insanely long TSA lines lol and then they booked us to connect in Dallas, and onto Tulsa. Then our Dallas flight was canceled, and we had to take a different one, a few hours later. When we got to Dallas, they boarded 325 of us on this huge American Airlines jet. And, right before we were about to take off, we deplaned! They found something wrong and they had us get off. There was a lot of grumbling, but you best believe I thanked them all on the way out! I told everyone else, I would rather deplane on the ground, if it was all the same to them. Caught a red-eye to Tulsa and made it home safe 👍

    Cascading Failure:
    1. FAA Regulations and probably American Airlines corporate pressure nudging the pilots to go faster to not miss the next days flight
    2. Colombian separatists blew up the radar station at Tulua
    3. Miscommunication between the ATC and the pilot about Tulua waypoint
    4. Choosing runway 19 forces them to rush
    5. Typing in R for Rozo makes no sense, and the pilot picks the wrong waypoint… why it just says ‘R’ for multiple waypoints makes absolutely no sense and hopefully has changed…
    6. The pilots don’t notice the sharp veer off to the left right away
    7. The captain Tafuri not wanting to turn around and ascend to a safe altitude when they were already lost, is a cataclysmic error and is the most unforgivable in my opinion
    8. Speedbrakes not lowered when trying to ascend
The thing is, not just 1 of these errors caused the crash, but each of them, compounds the problems, and multiplies the chaos...

Thankfully now in 2023 there are almost no airports in even 3rd world countries to which any major airline will fly into that lacks modern radar tracking as well as modern weather monitors. This typically extends to limiting any flights from outside of the country & planes above a certain potential passenger load.
      - Some of the riskiest areas are flights from point A to B *within* some areas of China, India, multiple African countries & multiple South American countries…especially if on smaller passenger planes belonging/operated by smaller local airlines. With the more rural the location equaling higher odds of outdated or limited/reduced technology…the same for the smaller the airline likely having poorer quality planes, equipment, technology &/or maintenance.
      - Which even here in the US it’s important to remember that when it comes to flying…cheaper isn’t always better. As budget airlines have REPEATEDLY been proven to: cut corners in all aspects, pay employees less while often working them harder/longer, don’t have the best professionals in the industry applying and put profits over safety far more often than the standard & luxury airlines…even if they share a parent company. Saving a few bucks or even a few hundred means *absolutely nothing* if it costs you your life OR leaves you permanently disabled.😕🤷🏻‍♀️

I am appalled by the NYC incident. Why on Earth was the airport not closed?! Why were the planes not redirected to airports with safer weather conditions? After several planes had failed attempts to land, one would think that redirection would be priority. Yes, I said the magic word. I am sure with such long waits and holding patterns, other planes were in danger of running out of fuel as well.
One would think that horrible weather would make those people more concerned about safety, not lax.
No work agenda is worth lives. I hope and pray that things have been vastly changed and improved so that this does not happen again.

    Its complete pilot error.
    1. How come captain is so casual when he is supposed to report at tulua and he did not bother to think why he missed tulua which was a waypoint in his flight plan. The pilot also knew tht atc cannot locate them as atc was asking pilot for distance from caly himself. Pilot should have extra cautious knowing that atc does not hv radar loc to help him.
    2. second mistake..even when looking for rozo waypoint on flight computer, how can the captain be so careless to select a waypoint searching with the intial letter R assuming that it is RoZo. R can be starting letter for n number of places. Too careless captain.

The owners of the airport in NY should have all been put in jail. Don't blame the pilot. The dam controller's should have to tell all pilot's if they are making planes wait.
If was a family member I would have taken justice in my own hands.

I don't understand why pilots don't scream we are almost out of gas. Land me immediately! Why wait and hope? That's crazy to me. I'd be raising hell. Fire me if you like, but land me now! I would never be so polite with all the lives affected.

Untrue, the crew of the plane never declared an emergency. There is plenty of blame to go around, but ineffective communication in deplorable weather conditions and a hazardous situation were key in causing the disaster.
