I cant imagine the guilt that air traffic controller must have felt. Such a tragic accident.
That co-pilot was brave to jump all the way to the concrete and risk injury to save the passengers. Kudos to him.
That was probably the turning point of the event because most of the terrorists were killed in the cockpit right?
I think he was jumping to save himself. I don't think he knew that he had been blocking the snipers. That looked like a nasty fall though.
I think the co pilot may have missed out on the bravery medal! Those Algerian Nationals , now they were heroes to refuse to get off the flight to save themselves.
The mistake was there was only one who attended to two screens at the tower, and instead of saying descend DXN, & ascend to the other aircraft, the pilots were confused & panicked so that they both descended or ascended that caused the collision.
😢😢😢🎉🎉🎉.
CONDOLENCE to both aircrafts & each family for the Loss🎉🌹 💕😢😢😢❤❤❤
It is very important for each pilot to pray to the God Almighty for protection & guidance with sound mind (no alcoholic drinks) because they are bringing lives of the passengers in their hands.
Your recounting of the actions of the GIA and the translations of the French speakers are profoundly accurate. The GIGN were true heros.
Agreed
Such a tragic loss in the second story. All those talented children. The man that lost his entire family. My heart is broken for their families. 💔😢 I hope none of the people on these planes suffered and that their souls are resting in peace. 🙏🕊️
Funny. 2.5 billion people believe they'll burn in eternal hell if they don't believe in Christ, 1.5 billion people they'll burn in eternal hell if they don't believe in Allah
I remember the original Wonder documentary about this… I believe it was that video that introduced me to this channel. Great storytelling, my respects to the innocent people who lost their lives and were horribly traumatized.
😊P😊0p😊😊0
Same as myself
I was a kid when this happened and remember watching the GIGN storming the plane. Epic.
Those terrorists were cowards.
U say the terrorists part like you wanted them to win
@@Cons_studios What exactly in what I wrote gave you that idea?
@@borja1000 the “those terrorists are cowards” like u kinda wanted them not to be cowards………💩
I remember too
@@Cons_studios no he didn't
The bravery of the GIGN men is unbelievable
All Algerian Passangers would had deserve a medal, they had chance to leave, but did not, knowing it would seal the faith of the rest, GIGN did amazing i can imagine how chaotic situation inside were, not knowing who is a terrorist and whos not.
Yes, very heroic and amazed it sounds like they all basically just agreed to not get off the plane. I'm glad it was the right move, but if the terrorists managed to succeed everyone would have died.
Peter could not be COMPLETELY blamed as SKYGUIDE was eventually RESPONSIBLE for
this.
I will never blame Peter because he was overloaded. The other air traffic controller should not have left.
Exactly
I got goosebumps for co-pilot! He was probably full of adrenaline. I watched the scene several times. I couldn't believe it, incredible courage! Survive instinct.
Just when I thought I'd seen them all I get hit with new episodes of stories I can't believe I never heard! As safe as flying is, there are still a ton of memorable ones.
Same. I hadn’t heard of this one
Little Kirill was so talented. Such a loss for his mum, and the rest of the world.
Rest in peace to all the lost loved ones.... esp those kids from Russia 🇷🇺 ❤ forever young and talented, fly high ❤🕊❤🕊
Based on a true story, how intense this whole film was very well done very well planned. Thank you for sharing.
R.I.P. TO THOSE THAT DID NOT LIVE.💐💐
In regards to the second disaster - How can just two controllers be in an ATC and one allowed to go for a long break!
How the hell did the maintenance team disconnect all sort of communications, atleast peter should have instructed the pilots on his screen that there is a maintenance work going on and hand over to another ATC.
The maintenance team should have given a brief to Peter that what features will be available and what will be disabled or not available.
Atleast one phone line should have been operational!
All the blame goes to that idiot second ATC fellow who went for long break, what was his need for long break! If he was sick he should have called it in earlier and had a 3rd guy at ATC.
To save money, they might have put all pressure on two ATC employees and one assistant during the night shift, whereas day shift would have sufficient people in ATCs.
There should always be an extra person working in ATC as a supervisor or an emergency hand in case an planned employee feels sick or unfortunate circumstances does not show up.
I guess at that time in 1996 things were ignored or not taken seriously.
The lead hijacker in the first episode here looks like the same guy who played Mohammad Atta in the Zero hour episode for Flight 11
It’s a clone
Yup, same actor (Elie Gemael.)
Are you implying all Arabs look the same? RACIST!!!! (Joking, it is the same actor.)
Fun fact: Elie Gemael, who plays terrorist leader Yahia, and Kevork Arslanian, who plays terrorist “Madman” Lotfi, reprised their roles for _Zero Hour's_ episode about Air France 8969; Gemael also starred as Mohammad Atta in _Zero Hour’s_ episode about American Airlines flight 11. And not only that, they’ve each appeared in two other episodes of _Mayday_ as well. Gemael played the Saudi first officer in the episode about the Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision, _(Sight Unseen)_ and a Romanian investigator in the episode about TAROM flight 371 _(Fatal Climb,)_ while Arslanian played an Iraqi translater in the episode about the attempted DHL shootdown _(Attack Over Baghdad)_ and the first officer in the episode about Turkish Airlines flight 1951 _(Who’s in Control?)_
I’ve seen those videos and have never noticed that… I’ll definitely go watch them again tomorrow now that you mentioned it. :)
@@MahiAviation Awesome, definitely do. All those episodes are one RUclips except for _Fatal Climb,_ but you can find that one by googling for it. I also forgot to mention before, but Stephen Sparks, who plays controller Peter Neilsen in _Deadly Crossroads,_ also played the captain in _Mayday’s_ episode about Scandinavian Airlines flight 751 _(Pilot Betrayed)._
Wow dude I didn't know that I'm gonna give those a watch
@@philliplumpkin6369 I didn't know either until I saw _Fatal Climb_ and thought the one investigator looked familiar. Then it hit me: "OMG, he's the actor who played Yahia in _The Killing Machine!"_
Mohammed Atta killed our loved one; who had NEVER worked for the government, NEVER "visited the Holy Land" and WAS NOT "greedy with money." He just died for all those reasons. Or so they say.

I cannot stop crying....dont think i ever will....o, babies, we miss you so...
Outrageous!! How could the air traffic control be so unequipped!?
If the Russian pilots had just followed TCAS at the first alert like the rest of the world does, instead of debating with each other whether to follow that or Peter, they would have avoided the collision. TCAS trumps the controllers because it detects both planes and it tells each plane the opposite direction to avoid each other.
It's absolutely crazy to me how someone can do something so extreme over their religious beliefs. They think their god says so. Absolutely deplorable
Incredible footage! Huge relieve.
one of the best documentaries made
The tragedy already sad. the actors relive the story make it more heartache
Amazing Doc
Thanks for these!
The editor is 👑 bro
Im sorry but i snort laughed when the terrorist said "This is a powerful bomb! There are others like this!" The FIRST thing that popped in my head was the scene from Full Metal Jacket where the soilders were saying "This is my Rifle there are many like it....." OMG im going to Hel in gasoline drawers. Idk why but now i cant stop laughing.
Now I have "This in my pistol this my gun, this for fighting this is for fun!" On repeat in my head.
As the song said, "Bless the beasts and the children . . . "
As for blame - the whole accident was riddled with mistakes. No one individual or group can be held hostage for this terrible tragedy. My deep condolences go out to the families of the children and adults lost.

Good chanel 👍👍👍
The second story was a tragedy on multiple levels. The children missing their first flight started an evil string of events.
Panam 73 is the most forgotten hijacking wonder
Yes I know it happened at Jinnah International airport Karachi Pakistan
This would make for a great movie 😎👍
He’s a very good actor
Others: can't beat the other hijacker
The co pilot of FedEx 705: we have a best weapon available and that was the *"aircraft"*
wow the father on the second story went crazy and went as far killing the ATC... the company is to blame!!! very sad
I have to use long flights often. This terrifies me
Crazy coincidence that two hijackings happened in 1994. They should have been clear indications to have better security before 9/11
So sad this and other similar things happened first and still 9/11 and its horrible consequences happened.
Because on precautions were taken UNTIL 9/11 happened. It took a terrorist attack in America and hijacking of three American planes before anything was done.
As an American we will not forget those people who died that day. It was a gorgeous Fall day that went down hill fast at 8:46 A.M. It's been almost 22 years since that terrible day and I can recall the day and what I did like it was yesterday.
I don't blame Peter Nielsen, but once he had to keep switching back and forth, why didn't he have the girl with him go get his colleague to come back?
Wow, it's been a while on this series
Although it's a repeated episode
Imagine you being in a plane and hearing, there's nothing to fear God await us in paradise
I would have defended myself about why the maintenance two showed up and then equipment stopped working. This young man couldn't think clearly.
Is that supposed to be a Airbus a320 or a330
Don't get me wrong there's plenty of blame to go around but maintenance took away Peter's computer systems and phones. He couldn't do his job properly. That combined with the fact that he was working on two separate consoles all by himself and he had another plane that needed his attention. That's just asking for trouble. Why wasn't the maintenance crew interrogated?
Agreed. Not to mention, Japan told the entire world that TCAS needed to be listened over ATC personnel if it goes off.
The Soviet Union refused to apply that, when the entire world applied the regulations for that. Japan nearly had such a collision, and they averted it because of the system.
The USSR pouted and stomped its feet, refusing to apply a system that could have saved all those people, even with Peter's limited resources at hand, and his lack of awareness of the situation.
The murderer took a paycheck in Switzerland from the elites. He should have been in prison for far longer, according to Swiss law.
All he needed to do was murder one man, and he gets riches, a high political position, a hot new wife, and be hailed as a hero.
He sold out his dead children for all of that. Just looking at that... I wonder if Putin were to ask him to murder his current kids for an even bigger paycheck, if he actually would be willing to do it.
Exactly, just imagine, only two people in ATC controlling the entire airplanes in sky, one idiot planned to go on long break dumping everything on Peter's hand, then maintenance team comes in and disconnected all PHONE LINES! Atleast one phone line should have been made operational or the controllers should be given a seperate satellite phone atleast.
Also Peter should have informed the flights in his screen that maintenance work is going on in his screen and self hand over should take place along with following inputs on flight notifications - The TCAS, if the Russian pilots knew the maintenance works going on in ground crew, atleast they would have trusted the flights TCAS and have pulled up inside of down.
Also in airplanes the officer and navigator not in control of plane should have a big screen of radar details - nearby flights their path and altitude details just like the ATCs so atleast they can know which flights are behind, below, above and front of them
Clearly you didn't watch the whole video. The leader of the maintenance crew was fined.
@@kellyanderson7624 I did watch the whole video, I just didn't hear that part. But thank you for letting me know. Fined though? Really??
Wow 😮
bro but i feel so bad for the 2nd dead passenger he thought he was going home 😭😭😭
Time gone by......
A calvelry charge of flight stairs is not a phrase I expected to hear today but here we are.
Peter Nielsen's death was so senseless. Vitaly Kaloyev was eventually tried, found guilty of manslaughter. Her served a little over 4 years in prison. Was subsequently treated as a hero. Grief makes people do strange things, like celebrating the killing of an obviously grief striken person.
This fact lead Air France and all airline companies to stop their services in Algeria for many years, I think for almost 10 years
The actor who played to main terrorist looks like the same guy who played Atta in the Flight 11 re-enactment
RIP Peter
1:05:38 - "Normally, his radar would warn of an impending collision. What he doesn't know is that tonight it is out of action."
How did Peter not know that? The documentary stated earlier (at 1:01:12) that the maintenance workers told Peter that they were going to work on the radar such that the two-minute warning system would be offline...
Believe me...the world did not forget!
Most they forget it really some not
I hope they were refound for the ride.
Every politics, system, and his colleagues tried to save peter, but the justice followed him. You have to do justice if "state" or system uses all his powers no to give you justice. End of peter was justice. Justified. But, lost trust in Swiss people. They work so lightly that they allow single person to run full air-control office that involves hundreds or thousands of people mid-air inside plane. shame!
Make new episodes!
This channel holds more than 1.87 million Subs and all of its videos has less than 10K views. What's wrong?
A lot of their content is repeated episodes which many people have already seen multiple times on other YT channels and tv programs.

Why do you repost every single episode like 200 times??
The second case,...I still blame it on the air traffic xontroller for taking things less aerious about theri duty.
You are SEVERELY mentally ill and CLEARLY didn't watch the video. What happened was out of his control. Also, the Russian pilots were to blame because they didn't follow TCAS which would have avoided the entire collision. Get a clue. Nut job.
you are wrong

Where TF did the other ATC went to
You see this. This is a bomb there are many like it but this one is mine!

How can this happened? And what is the intention?
They said they were planning an attack on Paris. It was allowed to happen because the plane was on Algerian soil and not French and interfering may have caused the terrorists to kill everyone

8:17 really? You really thought that was a good place to put an ad? And not a youtube ad, but a forced ad for your channel that even premium members have to watch? I have youtube premium to avoid ads for a reason. this is why I'm giving this vid a dislike. Not for the vid itself, but for the ad that you poorly placed in the middle instead of the end or beginning. I would have been far more okay with that.

Why all hijackers and terrorists are from one particular religion?
They're not there are several groups elsewere in South America etc
The full mistake is of the controller Peter. He is the one to be responsible. He is fully focused on that one flight even after seeing the problem. The last moment DHL flight tried to tell Peter that they are obeying the t-Kas instructions but Peter was not there. If at that time also he told then to they might survived.
Very Good Peter died. But the way is wrong. Court should have given him death sentence sentence.
The phone not working caused this. Peter must pee Peter must Poop. Peter was not a fault. Peter power pooped at the wrong time.
Wow. What an idiot.
The full mistake isn't on Peter. (Lol, what a foolish thought)
There is plenty of blame to go around. You have the maintenance crew that didn't complete their job. You have the company cutting so many corners that it's round. The phones weren't working. There was so much understaffing that double shifts were taken. He was one person dealing with so many flights, that he should have had at least 2 other people on staff with him at all times. Soviet protocol not obeying T-CAS also had a hand in it, even when Japan warned everyone that it saved two Japanese flights, and if pilots don't listen to it over the person at the ATC, then another accident will happen. When the entire world decided that it would be protocol, the Soviet Union pouted and said no. And thus, the training for pilots was set up that way.
Looking at that latter variable, the guy should have murdered everyone in the Russian government, rather than the individual.
And besides. The man who killed him, essentially took a paycheck from the Soviet government, for a political position. All it took was to murder an innocent man, and he had a very rich career, songs hailed about him, and a political career, with friendly ties to Putin.
At that point, his children were the furthest things on his mind. He was going to murder him anyways. It was just part of the deal he made with the Swiss elite. Law enforcement should have kept him, as was part of Swiss law... But he was let go, and returned with riches and political positions.
So much love for his children, that he sold their memory for money.
He would have murdered them himself if Putin asked him to, for money. He'd do it again for his current family.
He doesn't have any loyalty, and never had any love for his kids. Looking at every single variable, Peter was the most innocent of all those involved in the accident. But he refused to kill those most responsible for what happened: The Soviet Government. Out of simple egotism.
Japan warned them. Everyone but the Soviet Union listened to them. This absolves Peter, and the USSR is to blame.
He cant be called muslim at all
