      The mistake was there was only one who attended to two screens at the tower, and instead of saying descend DXN, & ascend to the other aircraft, the pilots were confused & panicked so that they both descended or ascended that caused the collision.

    In regards to the second disaster - How can just two controllers be in an ATC and one allowed to go for a long break!
    How the hell did the maintenance team disconnect all sort of communications, atleast peter should have instructed the pilots on his screen that there is a maintenance work going on and hand over to another ATC.
    The maintenance team should have given a brief to Peter that what features will be available and what will be disabled or not available.
    Atleast one phone line should have been operational!
    All the blame goes to that idiot second ATC fellow who went for long break, what was his need for long break! If he was sick he should have called it in earlier and had a 3rd guy at ATC.
    To save money, they might have put all pressure on two ATC employees and one assistant during the night shift,whereas day shift would have sufficient people in ATCs.
    There should always be an extra person working in ATC as a supervisor or an emergency hand in case an planned employee feels sick or unfortunate circumstances does not show up.
    I guess at that time in 1996 things were ignored or not taken seriously.

And not only that, they’ve each appeared in two other episodes of _Mayday_ as well. Gemael played the Saudi first officer in the episode about the Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision, _(Sight Unseen)_ and a Romanian investigator in the episode about TAROM flight 371 _(Fatal Climb,)_ while Arslanian played an Iraqi translater in the episode about the attempted DHL shootdown _(Attack Over Baghdad)_ and the first officer in the episode about Turkish Airlines flight 1951 _(Who’s in Control?)_

      If the Russian pilots had just followed TCAS at the first alert like the rest of the world does, instead of debating with each other whether to follow that or Peter, they would have avoided the collision. TCAS trumps the controllers because it detects both planes and it tells each plane the opposite direction to avoid each other.

    Don't get me wrong there's plenty of blame to go around but maintenance took away Peter's computer systems and phones. He couldn't do his job properly. That combined with the fact that he was working on two separate consoles all by himself and he had another plane that needed his attention. That's just asking for trouble. Why wasn't the maintenance crew interrogated?

    • @Keiji555
      @Keiji555 10 месяцев назад +2

      Agreed. Not to mention, Japan told the entire world that TCAS needed to be listened over ATC personnel if it goes off.
      The Soviet Union refused to apply that, when the entire world applied the regulations for that. Japan nearly had such a collision, and they averted it because of the system.
      The USSR pouted and stomped its feet, refusing to apply a system that could have saved all those people, even with Peter's limited resources at hand, and his lack of awareness of the situation.
      The murderer took a paycheck in Switzerland from the elites. He should have been in prison for far longer, according to Swiss law.
      All he needed to do was murder one man, and he gets riches, a high political position, a hot new wife, and be hailed as a hero.
      He sold out his dead children for all of that. Just looking at that... I wonder if Putin were to ask him to murder his current kids for an even bigger paycheck, if he actually would be willing to do it.

      Exactly, just imagine, only two people in ATC controlling the entire airplanes in sky, one idiot planned to go on long break dumping everything on Peter's hand, then maintenance team comes in and disconnected all PHONE LINES! Atleast one phone line should have been made operational or the controllers should be given a seperate satellite phone atleast.
      Also Peter should have informed the flights in his screen that maintenance work is going on in his screen and self hand over should take place along with following inputs on flight notifications - The TCAS, if the Russian pilots knew the maintenance works going on in ground crew, atleast they would have trusted the flights TCAS and have pulled up inside of down.
      Also in airplanes the officer and navigator not in control of plane should have a big screen of radar details - nearby flights their path and altitude details just like the ATCs so atleast they can know which flights are behind, below, above and front of them

    8:17 really? You really thought that was a good place to put an ad? And not a youtube ad, but a forced ad for your channel that even premium members have to watch? I have youtube premium to avoid ads for a reason. this is why I'm giving this vid a dislike. Not for the vid itself, but for the ad that you poorly placed in the middle instead of the end or beginning. I would have been far more okay with that.

    The full mistake is of the controller Peter. He is the one to be responsible. He is fully focused on that one flight even after seeing the problem. The last moment DHL flight tried to tell Peter that they are obeying the t-Kas instructions but Peter was not there. If at that time also he told then to they might survived.
    Very Good Peter died. But the way is wrong. Court should have given him death sentence sentence.

      The phone not working caused this. Peter must pee Peter must Poop. Peter was not a fault. Peter power pooped at the wrong time.

    • @Keiji555
      @Keiji555 10 месяцев назад

      Wow. What an idiot.
      The full mistake isn't on Peter. (Lol, what a foolish thought)
      There is plenty of blame to go around. You have the maintenance crew that didn't complete their job. You have the company cutting so many corners that it's round. The phones weren't working. There was so much understaffing that double shifts were taken. He was one person dealing with so many flights, that he should have had at least 2 other people on staff with him at all times. Soviet protocol not obeying T-CAS also had a hand in it, even when Japan warned everyone that it saved two Japanese flights, and if pilots don't listen to it over the person at the ATC, then another accident will happen. When the entire world decided that it would be protocol, the Soviet Union pouted and said no. And thus, the training for pilots was set up that way.
      Looking at that latter variable, the guy should have murdered everyone in the Russian government, rather than the individual.
      And besides. The man who killed him, essentially took a paycheck from the Soviet government, for a political position. All it took was to murder an innocent man, and he had a very rich career, songs hailed about him, and a political career, with friendly ties to Putin.
      At that point, his children were the furthest things on his mind. He was going to murder him anyways. It was just part of the deal he made with the Swiss elite. Law enforcement should have kept him, as was part of Swiss law... But he was let go, and returned with riches and political positions.
      So much love for his children, that he sold their memory for money.
      He would have murdered them himself if Putin asked him to, for money. He'd do it again for his current family.
      He doesn't have any loyalty, and never had any love for his kids. Looking at every single variable, Peter was the most innocent of all those involved in the accident. But he refused to kill those most responsible for what happened: The Soviet Government. Out of simple egotism.
      Japan warned them. Everyone but the Soviet Union listened to them. This absolves Peter, and the USSR is to blame.
