Relying on the "forgiveness is faster than permission" principle.
A desperate situation requires quick execution of attack and rescue. There are too many agendas in politics.
A decision can be made to abandon a group to demonstrate "no negotiation" stance.
This group had no patience with agendas.

Paul, I am a Kenyan black man and love Israel. It's good for you that you married an Israeli wife, who I know I is a granddaughter of Abraham, the father of many nations, and therefore a blessed lady. I guess that you are taking care of that Israeli lady, and your wonderful daughters, grandson Yoni, and the rest of them. Keep on supporting Israel and the Jews now and forever and God will bless you.
By the way sir, know that many Kenyan Christians recognize the state of Israel, the Jews right to exist on earth and in their ancestral Homeland of Israel, the land that they inherited from their forefathers Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob-Israel, and also support the Jews right to self determination and defense. That's why Kenya supported the Jews rescue of their brethren from terrorists holding them hostages at Entebbe in Uganda.

Watching this made me want to be an Israeli. I am English, but I felt such gratitude and awe in my heart for the huge spirit of Israel that it made me feel that way. Israel is a truly great nation who exist in the midst of enemies all around them. I feel their nation is the only shining light in the middle east. Israel will not be pushed around by any of its enemies, and this film showed this to a maximum! The pilots and soldiers who took part in this mission are true hero's and went beyond the call of duty to rescue their fellow citizens, the word "Hero! does not come close in describing them. One day I shall visit this great nation of Israel, as I feel a great love for them, for their spirit to want to exist, for that is their right before their God, Yaweh. I love the movie “ Raid on Entebbe.” I know it’s Hollywood’s version of events, but it does describe the urgency and difficulty of this mission. I’ve been to Israel several times, and I appreciate the effort they put forth to keep their people safe. I also have friends who escaped Uganda when Idi Amin came to power…..they escaped with only the clothes they were wearing, and probably would have been killed because of their Christian missionary activities. They were warned that soldiers were coming for them, and left in a hurry with the help of Ugandans who loved them.

I was closely following this marvelous operation ever since the Airbus was hijacked and landed at Entebbe . I have followed the 1967 June six day war, 1973 Yom Kippur and all other Israeli military operations in detail via USIS , American Centre so on. When I first heard that the hostages have been rescued I could not believe it. So impossible task considering the distance , risk involved . It is a pity that commanding officer of the Commando unit Lt Col . Yoni Nethaniyahu current Israeli PM Benjamin Nethaniyahu's elder brother was fatally injured . The young crack commandos were committed to the operation that made it a success. Munich Olympic massacre would have been averted if the rescue operation had been carried out by Israeli commandos . A blotched operation by Inexperienced German commandos . Never such a brilliant rescue operation like Entebbe in the annals of military history.

Jesus died as a martyr (witness) for he honestly and sincerely believed he was the Messiah (Christ). Sadly, however, his eschatological prophecy found in Matthew 23:34 (and parallel verses) failed to come to pass some two thousand years ago and became unfulfillable a few decades following. At the same time, based on each person's right to make private judgments in matters of religion one is able to look at Jesus as being a Jew who died for the sins of the world or a Jew who was crucified for claiming to be the King of Israel, an act which amounted to treason against Rome's sovereignty and required punishment by death.

As a young German kid, I remember reading about this daring rescue in the Readers Digest. I was so proud of the Israeli team that I just wished that I was Jewish. At 45 years old my nationality changed in an instant. I found out that I was adopted, and I was actually Jewish. I met my bio Dad and changed my name to the truth. Now I am even more proud of Israel. What an adventure!

What an awesome account of that historic rescue. I remember it well when it hit the papers the next morning and it was quite a topic of conversation for everyone at work.
One older guy summed it up well when he said. "Don't f**k with the Jews they have long memories and a very long reach"...and he was right.
What a glorious chapter in military history for the brave soldiers and their commanders.
    Thanks for posting!

This rivaled any Hollywood action blockbuster but it was real and it happened. I remember the incident and wondered what would happen and when the news of the raid on Entebbe was broadcast, I was not only surprised but wondered how they could've achieved such an impressive rescue. Thank you for this program; it explained what all went into the rescue. The sheer magnitude of planning, organization, determination and speed of the Israelis were amazing. I don't think any other country could've pulled that off. Fantastic job by all who were involved.

The voice over SWR "Yoni's been hit...Yoni's been hit!" and the grief all around on the flight to Nairobi when the commandos knew Yoni was no more got to me and never left. His funeral, coming against the backdrop of news that elderly hostage & medical patient, Dora Bloch, had been left behind in Uganda, was one of the most sombre days in Israel at the time, only rivalled in equal measure by the excitement following the daring hostage rescue.

You are right, but if the Israelis had not done what they did, more people would have died. There are some people alive today who were conceived and born after that operation was carried out. It might possibly be that some of them would not exist if their parents were left to the mercy of the terrorists. Sadly in these situations, there will inevitably be a few casualties. It’s a risk that comes with the execution of a rescue mission. Saving most at the reluctant expense of a few. You can’t afford to be emotional at a time like that. You’re there to do a particular job, you’re under a lot of pressure and you just expend all your energies into planning and carrying out your job successfully. I am sure that the deaths of the innocent people you mentioned did affect the rescuers after the mission ended, even years later. Thank you for keeping the memories of the dead alive by mentioning their names. It’s important. May God bless you.

Maybe if Germany had decided differently, Operation Thunderbolt aka Jonathan would never have happened. Anyway it was good that Germany and Israel learned that painful lesson. After all GSG9 also successfully ended a plane hijack (Landshut if you remember) and Israel toughened up on terrorists. So all in all Daumen rauf.

We went to Germany as United States Air Force Bratz in 1975. Our school did drills every week because of the badder meinhof gang they had been creating a lot of problems in Germany. It was kind of like a tornado drill everybody had to get under their tables and order to be safe. We had to turn them on their side and get behind them against the wall. If we were outside during the summer in the sirens went off we had to run for cover. Most of the play areas were about a quarter mile from our house so we had to run that far to get there talk about scary as a child at the age of 10 years old it was something that I had never had to experience before in America
