  • A horrific attack on a grade school and packed passenger train sends special forces operatives into action. To this day, the 1977 double siege is the most famous mission of the Royal Dutch Marines. It is still studied by counter-terrorism units worldwide as a textbook example of how to handle a hostage crisis.

    The plane flying over the train and making a lot of noise and creating that smoke was a novel idea. Whoever thought of that is a very wise person. My hats off to the Royal Dutch Marines and everyone involved in the rescue of all the hostages. I was very impressed by the school principal and the teachers in making the decision that the person closest to the grenade will have to jump on it when the terrorists decide to use it to hurt the children to absorb the blast thereby protecting the innocent children. And of the 167 hostages only 2 perished. The Royal Dutch Marines and everyone involved in the rescue are fantastic as well as HEROES. We truly serve an AWESOME GOD. Hallelujah.

      @@ChuckRosseel Only problem is, what you consider "justice" might not be what other people consider "justice". (With that I mean "justice" isn't an argument)
      To give an extreme example: I'm quite certain ISIS thinks killing people who disagree with them is "justice".
      9 years is still a long time, given that these were just accomplices.
      Additional reasons why not to lock them up for longer than neccesary:
      _keeping prisoners costs a lot (unless you're the american government, in which case you use prisoners as free/cheap labor)
      _If people stay in prison for a long time they often have trouble reintegrating into society

    • @ChuckRosseel
      @ChuckRosseel 4 года назад +35

      @@mitoma31 That appears to be your problem, not mine. By using a criminal terrorist group's definition of justice we see how warped your sense of justice can be. Criminals like ISIS have no say in what justice is in a moral world. Their evil deeds are devoid of ethics, rationality, fairness and law.
      You go on to excuse the surviving terrorists in the Netherlands double siege terror attack and kidnappings as just "accomplices". That of course would be laughable if it wasn't so disingenuous and sick. These evil criminals attacked and kidnapped 160 innocent people including 105 children. Six hostages were seriously injured and two more died. Nine years is not a long sentence for such a heinous crime. It equates to 20 days in prison for harming each victim. It equates to only 4.5 years for each murdered victim. That is not justice.
      Shockingly, you go on to say that these monstrous criminals do not deserve to be punished more than the 9 years (that you say was necessary) because it costs money to incarcerate them and that a longer punishment would cause them some difficulty "reintegrating into society". A just punishment of death or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole would have helped assuage your bleeding heart concerns.

      @@marinazagrai1623 - The United States of America has been going down the wrong path, at the very least since 1982, but definitely before then. Leftists and other Marxists have decided on that destructive course, and we all suffer for it.
      By the way, it is likely that the "Dutch Marines" were not Marines in the sense we know that term in the United States of America. The word "marine" means "Navy," in the Dutch language. Hence, the "Dutch Marines" are more likely to have been Dutch sailors, on the order of lesser-trained US Navy SEALs, not our Marine Corps. Do note that the Dutch sailors who were dedicated snipers were assigned 2 sailors per target, so that no one sailor would "suffer" for having killed a threat. For any in the United States Armed Forces, that would be laugh-worthy! If the mission is to terminate the target, then that's the mission, otherwise each might think that the other sniper would conform to the mission objective, and each might miss purposely. Generally speaking, the Dutch aren't into taking personal responsibility, preferring that the Almighty State do that for them. To conservative Americans, that line of unthinkingness is incomprehensible!

    • @Suisfonia
      @Suisfonia 3 года назад +3

      @@Inferi0r If that were true, then you wouldn't have an issue with people protecting themselves from criminals.
      Also, have you forgotten about the population numbers? The US has a population of 350 MILLION people, the majority of which are in large cities. Holland has a population of 6 Million, most of which are actually on the countryside.
      When people are clustered in large cities that increases the likelihood of problems, including crime. It's why here in the US, crime is more prominent in the cities than in the countryside.
      As I told someone else, before you go bashing another country, you might want to educate yourself on it.

      @@thombos1079 Wrong, the information I'm getting is that Holland - which is the former province of the western coast of the Netherlands, has 6 million people.
      I wasn't at all talking about the entirety of the Netherlands, but rather just one part of it.
      However, even so, it doesn't doesn't take away from the fact that it has a far fewer people than the US and thus crime in the US would naturally be viewed as higher due to our much higher population compared to other countries. However, if you look at the average, crime here is lower than in other countries.
      By the way, for our foreigners here, firearm related crime is higher in cities like Seattle, Portland, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Diego, Austin. This is because of gun control laws that only affect the law abiding citizens, they do not affect the criminals because criminals do not obey the law (never have, never will) so that leaves the law abidding open to being victims as they lack the means of protecting themselves from the criminals. Now, if you got rid of those cities, the US would have one of the lowest firearm related crime. (There's a reason why cities and states with lax gun control have fewer firearm related crime, compared to cities/states with gun control. After all, criminals will commit their crimes in places they know they won't have opposition)
      Which is why I love my state and my city, where we allow open and concealed carry. Despite having a population of just under 3m, we have the lowest firearm related crime in the country and that is largely due to the armed citizenry (criminals do not like it when their victims are armed, tends to lead to THEM being killed)
      There's a reason I carry, as I am not interested in becoming a victim.

    I feel a bit of context is missing, namely why the Moluccans attacked the train and school: after fighting for the Dutch in a former colony, they were exiled to the Netherlands, with the Dutch government promising they would eventually get their own independent state. Over 25 years passed and the Moluccans were still living in 'temporary' camps - often in poor conditions - and the promise by the Dutch government for the independent state was never fulfilled. People were angry, and some of the younger Moluccans decided to take up arms to bring attention to their cause. That's why these individuals attacked the two sites.
    I'm not saying that their actions were justified, but I feel that, with this bit of information included, it makes a little more 'sense' as to why they attacked. It should also be noted that there is still a lot of controversy about the actions of the Marines on that day - mainly about whether they used excessive force and whether some hostages were or were not executed after having already surrendered. I can't really judge this myself, as I do not have all the details (hell, I wasn't even born when this happened), and, in hindsight it is always easier to judge actions like these, but what stands out to me most of all is the tragedy and the pain. The victims', their saviours, but also the Moluccans', who may have felt so trapped and betrayed that they saw no other option than to take up arms (once again, not saying that their actions were justified). So much pain, it's really sad..

      Nilaues - Thank you for providing that critical piece of context. In viewing this episode, I had a nagging feeling that something was missing. A group that large doesn't get together and plan so extensively for what seemed insufficient reason.
      I was, as a professional soldier, struck by the Dutch authorities (though obviously not the Dutch Special Operations Forces personnel) wanting to insure that no terrorists were harmed. That those authorities also were quite content to hazard the hostages' lives and psychological wellbeing, for the purpose of attempting a non-violent diplomatic solution, is typical of Dutch passivity toward violent actions committed on their own people. In my personal interactions with Dutch military personnel and law enforcement, as a former United States Special Forces combat Veteran and former law enforcement officer in the United States of America, it is apparent that they are the only Dutch with any sense of reality. Virtually all other Dutch are passively responsive to the almighty authority of government, just as good sheeple should be. Even the language lacks government authorized words to express resistance to criminal actions, so conversing about topics relating to violent crimes and the privately owned weapons (Horrors!) to counteract them is tantamount to non-religious blasphemy! As is frequently heard in the Netherlands, "We're Dutch. We're different!" and they most certainly are!

It seems Charles Cohea disapproved of a burglar who locked his children in a closet while stealing his stereo. The burglar ended up giving a "pound of flesh nearest the heart" and collapsing shortly as a result. Charles was tried, convicted, and sentenced for 1st Degree Murder and took up residence in the California state prison at Folsom. Upon his appeal, which I sat in to observe, his sentence was reduced to time served. The original attorney had failed to use a quite valid PTSD defense, a tactic I've kept in the back of my mind ever since, should it be needed. To the best of my knowledge, this was the first use of that defense nationwide, and the topnotch attorney who brought it forward on appeal certainly earned my respect.
      Before taking a lack of sympathy to the next level and acting upon it, inform your attorney of the defense you'll need, if caught. No sense serving time for what one's mind says is right and justified.

In accordance with Alinsky's doctrinal rules, redefining language is the road to tyranny. Now, Canadian Minister Trudeau has taken a page from the same book, minimizing and denigrating Canadians opposed to sweeping, government mandates, a move under active consideration by the Marxist executive branch in our United States of America. Under the FauxBama regime, Veterans were defined as "potential domestic terrorists" and more recently upgraded to reflect that we were no longer merely "potential." Serve one's country honorably, become a "terrorist!" Along with "racist" and an ever longer list of other deprecations, these words lose meaning with blanket use, conditioning sheeple to acceptance of additional, despotic controls. That is the real difference between a coward and a hero, and I am sadly a coward. I have met heroes, and none of them wore capes. They sometimes wore badges or uniforms, but not always. Sometimes cowards try to hide by wearing badges and uniforms, but they always show their true self and get caught.

The gas penetrates small crevices so that there is no need to throw the grenade inside the hostage area. If there is no way to place the grenade outside the hostage area, it must be fired throw a window. There are also more devices that must be invented suited for a particular situation.
