    Omg thank you for this video! I have been practicing my candle making for almost a year now and have been so afraid to seek because they’re “not perfect” lol. My husband and all my family think they’re great but of course I constantly criticise and doubt my own work because I have these high expectations that they needs to be absolutely perfect. Thank you for this video to help take some pressure off ❤️❤️

    I can relate COMPLETELY. Trying to find a balance between those who trim their wicks not have their candle underperform/tunnel and those who NEVER trim their wicks not have their candle be a bonfire lol. In the process of changing wax and wicks to create this balance in my own candles. Great video. Thank you.

    Mercy, this video could not have come at a better time, as I am lighting 5 different candles for testing-again. I am stuck in "the loop" right now; my biggest fear, and it holds me back, is selling dangerous candles. And also selling candles that won't stay lit. It's really great to hear you say the same, makes me feel not so crazy 😂

      I'm so glad you could relate to this video! I have been chasing that sweet spot with my candle formula for so long now and it wasn't until I started understanding more of the chemical makeup of the supplies that I am using that I really started changing it up to be as close to "perfect" as I can get (and still not there lol)
      I think the fact that you CARE about the safety of your candles that you are selling says a lot of about your character as a business owner!

    I’m having my first pop up tomorrow Saturday so this made me feel better lol I have never sold my candles because I’m terrified of them not burning “perfectly”
    I’ve given some of my candles away to family members and I get so anxious thinking about how they’re burning.
    Another issue is that I’m using wooden wicks and gosh they are so hard to work with (if anyone has any tips for wooden wicks please let me know lol)
    I’m also working with clear vessels which is complicated because of the whole frosting issue 😭
    I’m really considering switching my vessels and wicks! But at the same time I really really enjoy working with wood wicks.
    I realized I can’t let fear stop me and I just have to put myself out there.
    With all that being said thank you for your videos! You always motivate me to keep on going 😊

    Yup. I absolutely agree with this truth. Make the best product you can and just get out there. A simple question with "do you like scented candles?" Can begin a whole conversation and in my experience helped me build to a point that I was going to open in more than one local store and then, well.. life happened and I realized my timing to be way off (not business related). I've since, closed my shop "officially" for now and expect to maybe return in a few years in order to focus more on my kiddo and pull my life back together; but I have other avenues I am working on as well and things in mind during that time period. Grab a backpack, get out there and ask around. Present you product and off you go!🎉🎉
    (Dear Erica if you are reading this, I'm looking into bee keeping... Aka... bees wax and honey 😉. I'll keep you posted on that story, but there are big plans in store, yet long story short, farming. I want to start farming). It's a big deal... A really big deal for me!

It's good to know that someone with your platform was able to discuss your past and current experiences about your current candle business. You helped me realize that candles is not perfect and even the most popular businesses struggle with the same issues. This was a great video Erica! I have been making candles since 2016 and I am still trying to “perfect” them! I have also started to leave my wicks a little longer like you are doing as I have found/discovered that people will trim them too short which leads to the candle tunneling. I am now going through and testing different wicks in my candles so that they are not burning too hot. I see so many comments on what the outside temp of your vessel should be and those thoughts are all over the spectrum as well. I am not so focused on my glass container being clear as it burns. It has some residue left on it and I’m fine with that as you have stated there are consumers out there that will light it and forget it or not ever trim the wicks, etc. It’s an ongoing process for sure and your this video was so refreshing to hear.

      It's the sweet spot we all hope for! I know what you mean though, you want the melt pool to be hot enough to create a nice hot throw but you also don't want it to make the glass of the jar too hot. This is spot on! I am still in the testing phase, and I can not get out of it to save my life!!! 😂😂 I have contemplated changing my jars and trying some other wicks, but my goodness, that's gonna be a lot. I know there is no such thing as a perfect candle, but IDK what is "good enough".....not in the mediocre sense, but in the "is it safe and good to sale, so I can start my business" 😊 I was actually going to request that you make a video showing you make a candle, start to finish, and burn it, so I could see what you approve of. That is my main issue, the flame moves a little. I get no smoke, no soot, and it hasn't tunneled, but it does dance from time to time. Thank you so much for this video!

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  Год назад +2

      This is a great idea!! And something I've been wanting to do for a long time. It's definitely going on my video topic list. To be honest I'm not sure if it's possible to make and burn a candle where the flames don't dance at all (especially when it burns lower in the jar!) The main thing is the flame height, and continuous or frequent sooting or smoking from the wick(s) is a no-go. I definitely need to make a video where I give my take on a "pass" or "fail" candle!

    • @MemoryBoxCandleCo
      @MemoryBoxCandleCo  Год назад +2

      This is completely subjective and there's a lot of factors and variables that will come in to play when it comes to pricing your candles.
      If you take the standard pricing strategy of COG x 4 that would make your 16 oz. candle $28 retail, which is more than reasonable and honestly on the lower side.
      I would do COG x 4 + 15% to account for labor costs and the ability to run sales, discounts, etc.
      That would put you at around $32-$33. Depending on your branding, marketing and target audience, you may need to price lower or higher. It's very subjective and every brand/business is different but I hope this gave you a little bit of insight!
