Louis is bullish towards her. Shes been good enough to invite him into her home and now hes belittling her just because she likes china plates and has chosen to look after her own mother in her old age. It takes all sorts to make a world and Ann is lovely. And she has a very full interesting life and does not need a man to measure her worth against !
I think this was just a younger Louis Theroux interview style. He pushes and acts cheeky towards the interviewee to try and get more out of the exchange and hopefully build up a rapport in the long term.
Anne Widdecombe seems like a perfectly decent woman. By the looks of it she looks after her own mother, which in my opinion is admirable and no easy task.
louis theroux is one of few journalists who have developed in themselves to produce fasinating documentories. His lastest ones are brilliant, he has the ability to be almost inpartical yet be bias and not offend the person, he also presents the arguement insuch a way that the audience questions itself, not being told to think this and that! Go louis!
I agree with absolutely none of Ann's politics or beliefs but still can't help but like her. She has a unapologetic attitude to who she is that's sadly lacking in most people.
Louis did have a moderate case of "foot-in-mouth" disease here (though it could have been a lot worse, it wasn't like he said something disgusting to her). However, this and a few other moments aside, it was actually quite an endearing documentary with the two of them spending time together. And Louis has obviously matured a hell of a lot since then and thus has redeemed himself. In fact, he said in a recent interview that some of his regrets were the times in his documentaries where he was a bit inconsiderate of other people's feelings (unintentionally or not). Also he has said in a few other interviews that he wasn't totally happy while making some of the later "When Louis met" films. I think he broke up with his long-time girlfriend (whom he was married to for visa reasons) during that time. And he was kind of in a rut professionally where he was going for easy ratings rather than making programmes about subjects that he actually had a strong interest in. Thankfully he turned that around and made his brothel, Michael Jackson and Nazi documentaries the following year. I think the "When Louis met" films were stepping stones between Weird Weekends and the kind of programmes he makes today. He had to make those films in order to learn and mature in both his professional and personal life.
Interesting. I do like Louis, and really enjoy watching his documentaries, but even I found this one in poor taste. I know he doesn't take himself seriously (at least in his earlier works) but he was really quite rude in this one.
Laura Bailey I didn't think he was overly rude, just kind of careless with his questions/comments at times. There were one or two moments where Louis was trying to make conversation with her and she kind of bit his head off (like the bit before her interview with David Frost). But they also had some banter as well which was pretty light-hearted.
Francesca Baines each to their own. Like I said, I like Louis, but yes, I thought he was rude, especially in the hairdressers scene and asking about her sexual relations or the lack of it should I say.
The problem is that it's the mindset of a documentarian or journalist to probe and pry to get the answer. It's something that is preached to you while in school. (I have a degree in Journalism, not a journalist, but took many courses.) It's seen as the end all be all, to stay focused and in control of the interview. While I think it is a good technique, it can definitely come across as callous and rude. The opposite is worse though. Being nice and letting non answers go creates terrible non informative interviews. The thing they never teach you is how to find that balance of prying while being personable. This problem is tougher when you are on screen and have to be conscience that everyone is judging you. I think Louis does a great job, but like you said he had a tendency to get inconsiderate, but I believe that is rooted in him trying to find the truth, he's not attempting to just create a headline or sound bite. I feel as though his motivation has always been fairly pure.
Tommy Salami I also think that Louis does a great job of asking the tough questions while still being personable. Like everyone, he has made one or two mistakes but overall he’s very nice and respectful to his contributors. All he wants is to know the truth and hopefully change people’s perceptions (which he has done multiple times). And I agree that accepting non-answers from interviewees is worse. If you do that, then the interview would be a waste of time.
Louis let himself down here, she was far more intelligent than him, and she showed him up for asking questions that were previously agreed not to be asked as a condition of doing the interview.
She's sort of likeable in an old-fashioned school teacher kind of way and she's not completely without a sense of humour. I mean I can understand her behaviour and Louis is just plain nosy at times. I'm not really thinking about her politics but she seems like she has some integrity.
I think Anne Widdecombe is loathsome. However, I never understood why Louis pushed the whole virgin/marriage agenda on her so much. Was it an attempt at shaming her? because she's done enough of that herself. It's an incredible invasion of privacy to some people... He must have known that.
Because she made such a bold statement. So he was pushing her to confirm that. Isn't it quite normal when someone went off their way to make such a statement then people around you would kinda.use that against you
It's because she's a conservative. This whole thing was about punishing a conservative. This is what liberals typically have always done with conservatives in the UK. It is, as Ann quite rightly says, impertinent. But that's the style of attack.
hi anne, lovely of you to comment on you're video.. love you're racism, how is life in the 1930's... we have lovely airports in the modern age, you're ukip brexiteer scum follower love flying on cheap planes to all the EU destinations hahahhahahha
I think it's because he can be a bit more brash around other other Brits as we have that stiff upper lip wheras someone from the US may just see him being completely condescending not understanding those social cues.
It's because she's a conservative. This whole thing was about punishing a conservative. This is what liberals typically have always done with conservatives in the UK. It is, as Ann quite rightly says, impertinent. But that's the style of attack.
After meeting Louis Theroux our forthright Ann had a wonderful makeover and she looks great. I think this program was a turning point Ivor Ann's future
You're right, and she was right: There's no way to be sure if she even wants to be in a sexual relationship with a man or not, and that's none of anyone's business anyway. It's nobody's business what she does or does not do sexually or non-sexually, in the privacy of her own home. This guy is very low-class for even asking those questions, and she very expertly and politely shut him down. She is 10,000 times more classy than him.
Louis seems to be very rude towards Anne Widdecombe, and although I personally disagree with most of the stuff she says and believes, I think it's childish and unprofessional to be blatantly rude towards her.
I thought Anne came across rather well. Down to earth , and quite fun. It's just annoying when they agree to be filmed, but then ban places. At least she let Louis film her in the hairdressers though, unlike Debbie Mcgee
@SuGaRuSh14 I dont think he was asking those questions to be cruel, those things are just some of what she is famous for, Louis was just trying the opinion straight from the source.
Did you not understand what he said and how sick he is, He knew exactly what he was saying, disgraceful. guess you not really listening. I never seen this guy before, but if this is how low ball he is I never want to see him again.
It didn't work for Louis did it! I'm a great admirer of Louis when interviewing weird people trying to pass themselves off as normal, but the trouble for Louis here is that Anne Widdecombe is a perfectly upright and normal individual who suffers from an unfortunate manner - in that she's a public figure who dares to say what she thinks
@JoeStunner i agree you know what i think it is? older people ( i know ann has always been like this tho). i think as you get older you dont actually care what people think and your more likely to stick by your beliefs why would you change them its got you this far...
Anne Widdecombe is everything good about old fashioned morals. Why should she talk about her sexuality, that’s a totally private matter. The fact that people see that as strange is their problem.
I saw Her in an Heated Exchange with Terry Christian on the Wright Stuff!, I was Concerned because I thought if this gets Physical I Fear for Terry's Safety!.
No idea but she was in favour of the government's act to ban hunting with dogs and was only one out of about five Tories who did so. That makes her a cut above the rest of them in my opinion.
She's a wanker, here's why, and it's very easy, she think she's right, and what's right for her is right for everyone, she doesn't like people being impertinent, but is fine being impertinent to others, in short, she's a selfish little cunt, and frankly if she'd let the gays and trans people get on with their own lives without bring her imaginary friend into it, I'd like her allot better.
That's what I would have asked her - she has cats and teddy bear plates, and swords on the wall in the same room. That juxtaposition is a lot more interesting than the tack question about her sexual history.
Redstripe921 where i come from we have a separate room for it, but every flat i have been in the uk or germany it had the washing machine in the kitchen
Louis Theroux is disgusting. He suggests that she has said that she is a virgin (fully aware that she has said no such thing) in order to get her to rise to the bait and deny it. Also, she says she agreed to the documentary on condition that it would not be discussed. Theroux raises it, and they don't cut it from the documentary. It was a nasty and unnecessary question as everybody knows the answer. It really is not appropriate to ask questions like that to a woman of Widdecombe's generation and upbringing.
Louis just walking round her house slaggin everything off 😂😂
Lol typical Louis, love the part about the Pope looking dubious 😀
I really like his earlier work, it has a bit more tongue-in-cheek personality than his later work
I'm amazed he's talking to such an idiot.
🤣🤣
Left or right if you look after your mum like this you are a legend.
She’s a lesbian closet case
Let be 100% honest. It’s not any of our business if she is a virgin or not. It’s very personal. I can’t blame her for not answering.
I hate her, and I agree.
I would love it if Louis takes her virginity.
Matt Hill she is
Lol
How rude are journalists!!!!!
Teddy bears, cats, three swords on the wall and an old lady sedated upstairs - British eccentricity.
You forgot the china.

Luckily Ann can give as good as she gets - I thought Louis was bullish too, but Ann handled it well and wouldn’t give in.
Anne Widdecombe seems like a perfectly decent woman. By the looks of it she looks after her own mother, which in my opinion is admirable and no easy task.

My word, that Louis really goes out of his way to be impolite...
I'm a mega fan of the Widdy Web. I love her cats
I like ann widdecombe she stands up for what she believes is right, and also doesn't care what anybody thinks of her!!! widdy rules ;)

Anne Widdecombe rocks. Anne for Prime Minister!
