I think some people are forgetting the point of interviews. He's not there to be her friend. He'll ask challenging, and if need be insulting questions. It's Theroux's job to make interesting television and he does it well.

Would it kill people and organizations who post clips like these to include the date of recording and/or first airing? I had to do some digging to find out that this one was probably shot in 2001, well before its 2008 posting date. The BBC is not the only committer-- I've spent all this evening watching clips originating from both sides of the Atlantic and am forced to guess the dates of shooting by the contents of the conversations.
Would it trouble the people and organisations to please post the name of the boom operator and to note down the ISO rating of the film this was shot on? Do I have to go out of my way to find this information myself?

It's just banter (and pretty mild banter at that). This clip was actually from towards the end of the documentary so they had already known each other for several weeks. And at the very end of the documentary, he said that he grew fond of Ann and he gave her a pleasant kiss on the cheek goodbye.
Yeah if you watch the whole doc you see them grow to have a little kinship. With a normal subject, it would be inappropriate to say some of the things he said, as they are taking time out and helping you out. However, I think this was a smart tactic for Widdecombe. She's known to be tough and jagged so he steered into that.
Because she's an actual conservative. It's patently obvious. You would have to understand how liberals historically treat conservatives in the UK. I don't mean conservative party members (as to whether they've been properly conservative in the last couple of decades, I very much doubt it), but actual conservative people.
