This... is truly a "timeless classic"! I hate it when Bill knows me better than I know myself sometimes. 😂 😶

You are absolutely right Bill. In fact, after watching some more of your videos last week, I applied for my LLC, EIN, and bought the Voiceover Playbook series from your site. A lot of great information! I've learned a lot over the past year from your videos and the resources you mention. If I hadn't ran across you on YT, I'd still feel angry and trapped in my pizza delivery job, watching my talents go to waste.
I've had many different dreams that I've held onto over the years, but now I see the path to a career before me, and a plan to get it done. I'm at the beginning of my VO journey, but I'm already in a much better place. Thanks for everything Bill.

Mash Machine curious, how are things now?

I'm wondering how this turned out for you. I want to get into this so badly and I've already ordered an XLR mic and sound dampening panels, placed a bid on a relatively good audio inferface and been studying this subject nonstop. I can't wait to get started. Truck driving is NOT the life I want to lead.

    This is an excellent video.
For people watching this years later - the truths in here are just as relevant today as they were back in 2014 - or even more so.
just having gear or watching videos is not enough. You have to learn about what you are getting into - and undersand it is not just reading and recording and getting paid.
The talent part - as voice acting is ACTING. As he said, take some classes, books workshops etc.
Find your local community theater, improv troupes or college groups and see what learning you can do locally.
Then, it is work...a lot of work.
One reason - because of modern tech, it is easier than ever to "get into" voice acting.
The internet is flooded with people who have a mic and some ideas, but don't know what they are doing.
You have to compete with all of them (or be one of them.... take his advice, and rise above).
You need to learn the business, work and hone your talent, then be ready climb on that long journey of work and experience.

You know Bill, This was what I needed to hear. It was if it was made totally directed at me. I am or was.....guilty of all those things you mentioned here. Thank you. I was showing a friend your videos when we stumbled across this one.

Thank you Bill. I truly appreciate all you have shared and listen to your lessons nearly every day. I have just completed 8 weeks of VO coaching/training with an industry professional and will be recording a pro-demo in studio this Thursday. I plan to consider your guidance/career coaching in the future.

Bill, you are an inspiration! I am new to voiceover, just finished training at Edge Studio & going to record my narration demo next week. I used to be a t.v news anchor & did do an audiobook at audible last year…but wasn't called back even though they said they loved my performance. I am now trying to make my first home studio out of a closet in my basement & am worried I will do something wrong lol! But I am trying to research & get this thing going. So far your videos have been the most compelling & helpful I have found. I would love to attend one of your seminars one day if you are in NYC. Thanks for the encouraging & positive videos they are so appreciated (: Christy Carlo

+Christy Drangula Hey Christy...thanks for your kind comments! I was in NYC last year conducting a weekend workshop. So sorry I missed you! I have another weekend workshop coming up this Fall in the Chicagoland area (near my home). I'm not as big on travel as I used to be so I keep it to a minimum. I have links to resources on VoiceOverRevolution.com. You might also want to check out DeWeesMembers.com. All the best!

    Dr. Rodney McKay
It's been bugging me for many videos. Finally, the name comes to me. You and David Hewlett (McKay on Stargate) resemble each other.
Do you get that a lot?

Bill, if you were just starting out in voice over, would you consider taking a business class, or maybe even marketing class?

What microphone are you using, is it a Neumann [hard to tell, can't see a logo or tell tale signs[ perhaps it's a U87? I have a Neuman TLM 103 condensr & a Shure SM7b Dynamic [if you have experience with both would you reccomed using the Neumann or a Shure sm7B - seem both would fit but would the TLM 103 condenser be more appropriate? [or could I use both?] - [that I love huge step from Rode NT1A - which is still a good dry mic in my mic locker] incredible sound improvements [along with our sickly sE electronics diffusion filer and learning to use our [MUCH easier than I thought lol] - Universal Audio LA-610 MK II Channel Strip - Analog Tube Preamp/Compresser-Limiter and EQ - its nice to FINALLY be able to hear ourselves crisp and loud in my Focal Spirit Professionals [can-cans - best Ive ever used, no coloration whatsoever. Focal is king IMHO - if only I had 10K or more to drop on the FocalBe3 top of the line model. It looks delectable haha.

Because I have worked in customer service/technical support by telephone for years now, I have developed what I believe to be the "voice" needed to sound convincing and reassuring to the people that I speak with. Many of these people, have made mention that I should look into the "Voice Over" business... I have never really considered attempting to pursue this line of work, until I spoke with a lady that was a previous producer for ABC. For which, she stated I would be a "great" for news broadcasting. I am sure you and others reading this have had similar experiences. So, any feedback is appreciated from anyone. I do not want to spend $1,000 to $2,000 for a demo just yet. Can't i just put on my cheap headset/mic and do my own cheap demo on RUclips to at least get attention? What do you think? Maybe news/radio voice over is where I need to begin, before doing audio books, freelancing commercial spots, etc...
