1. To sound engaged
- they're interested that you're actually thinking what you're talking about.
- that you're not just there moving your mouth making sound but that you're actually interested that you can express that interest to the person who's listening to you.
- thinking about what you're talking about and allowing yourself to sound interested in what you're talking about.
- you need to sound interested and a lil bit enthusiastic
- you care about what you're talking about.
2. To sound credible
- to sound like you know what you're talking about.
- to sound knowledgeable
- make sure that you speak relax. Confidence
- slower down and inflect down in the end of the sentences
thanks, was about to start jotting
The worst is when they goo too down at the ends... Then it has this horribly predictable (once you notice it) "hhhhuuussss" sound or octave drop at the end.
you ruined everything with the thank me latuurr
at first glimpse, I actually thought you were Hawkeye from Marvel MCU!
i didn't want to say anything in case i was mean but he kind of looks more like Malcolm Reynolds from firefly
@@dovacraft5772 I also didn't want to sound rude but I think he looks like Jason Bateman from Ozark.
You mean Jeremy Werner right? I see lol it’s like he could be his dad or something
Lol
You know what they say, everyone has a doppelganger.
1. Sound engaged
2. Sound credible
inflect down at end of sentences, slow down, relaxed voice from lower diaphragm. RELAX.
I like your advice. I'm not a narrator, or a voice-over actor. I'm a hypnotherapist, trainer, and consultant to multi-billion dollar organizations in the field of advanced communication. My thought, when you say, 'to be engaged', is, "How?" My professional answer to that question is to make sure that your communication at every level is congruent with an attitude of engagement. In other words, not only your language, but you vocal qualities, and most especially, your body language, are all reflective of full engagement. Just my two cents...
Great stuff man, you're really good on the mic. I hope I can be like you in the future.
Thanks Bill. That helps me with my own business a lot. I've been working on narration of late and your thoughts have helped me crystallise my own style.
Mr. Bill, thank you, as always, for your time and devotion. Bless you my friend!
This is so great. I’ve picked up a snippet of slide narration work through my job and simply listening to your examples is proving hugely effective. Thank you!
Incredibly simple yet solid advice. Thank you ever so much for imparting this useful tidbit of knowledge!
You described what I'm working on. Slowing down, being confident (or sounding like it!), and most important for me, engaged. Thank you so much, even these many years later.
Even as someone who's been working for quite a while this is really good insight, thanks BIll. Actual practices ie around inflection etc are gold. Thanks again
I appreciated what you said concerning narration. I find that it is easier to read when you are calm and slower than usual. Plus it reels people more into the story when you are fully engaged
Thanks Bill, for not only telling us what to do but giving examples of the incorrect & correct ways to deliver the reads.
Be engaged be IN-credible this was dope even 3 years later💯💪🏾
He said credible not incredible
Great advise. I'm currently recording my first audio book and am struggling with the topic. This helps a ton. Thank you so much!
Really helpful! Thank you sir, this is great advice and the example you gave at the end made it even clearer!
Our project is due tonight and i need to do a narration voice over. This is very helpful
Oh, great! Perfect timing. Glad you thought so!
I just wanna sound cool so I can roast my friend 😔
XD
Valid goals lol
Ys
His voice is just so interesting, I couldn't stop listening.
Wow Dave, all your videos are so spot on!! Learning so much, thanks.
Thanks for a great and informative video Bill. For a newbie like me, having your advice said over and over again and even put them as a card on my book stand:
"SLOW DOWN" - "SMILE" - "SOUND ENGAGED/INTERESTED" - "BREATH" - and others like this. But most of all "SMILE" and "SLOW DOWN" are what I find most helpful.
I was practicing a piece on equine dentistry (I'm passionate about my horseback riding) and thought it would be fun to read a piece on equine dental care. My VO coach said, "Try to sound more like James Herrio (pen name of James Alfred Wight, author of "All Creatures Great and Small") as oppose to Doc Martin (the sarcastic doctor of that PBS show). It's a challenge for a newbie from Long Island, but I'm working on it.
Loved your tips! So easy to understand. I am looking forward to putting them into practice. Thank you so so much.
Very helpful; I thank you so much for putting this advice out there.
I like that these *narration tips* apply to so many other fields! Thanks for your *insight!* 😃
So... engaged. And relaxed. Got it! :)

Probably the most helpful advice I've heard yet as a "voice guy."
"Engage." "Inflect down."
Enthusiasm and confidence. Couple things to work on in practice. I'll never forget those, and thank you!

YES YES YES. Thank You I got it. I never understood the difference between down talk vs up-talk. My narrations are very technical, but I created the material. It easy for me to sound interested but my projects but my problem is talking way to fast. Thanks I love this one.

Great tips thank you
Thank you...Love the tips
Thank you, this way very helpful for me!
Thanks a lot! That was very helpful
hey im new to this and you really helped....i kinda sensed the part about going slower and more relaxed, but i dont wanna sound 'low energy'...I've been playing music and singing for 40 years, and ive been blogging for about 3, and i thought i knew it ALL and this would be EASY....boy was I wrong....and then i got the idea to see if there was a teleprompter app, cos THAT would be useful in doing music videos too....but THAT is not easy....
When you write a song lyric, you write in rhythm.....so its all kinda set up...no awkward pauses...
But if your prompter feed is too fast, or too slow....wow...
that fast speed is EXACTLY what you illustrated here....ive noticed when im listening to a video like that i will glaze over and have to go back 2, 3, 4 times to catch the details, and absorb the info....too slow and i get bored and fast foward through to the next part.
I subscribed- thank you-

Glad to hear that. I aim to be clear and concise in my videos. Thanks for your comment. :-)
Never done this before. Thanks.
Bill, thanks for Sharing this excellent advice!
Even though this video was made three years ago, for me and I'm sure many others, it is still incredibly relevant for today's Voice Over Artists. I fully understand why Being Engaged and Sounding Credible are major factors recording Great Narration.
I'm still a newbie, but I feel that Narration may be a calling for me, because I love to read, teach, hear stories, and tell stories.
Mack. I didn't meant to be rude but your face looks like Reyez The Entrepreneur
@@zirafahtergelincir3756 Not a problem, No U.
I looked up Reyes The Entrepreneur and, except for full cheeks and the glasses, I don't see any resemblance with me. He looks and acts like a good guy and certainly doesn't resemble a monster, so I'll take your obserservation as a compliment. :)
@@michaelhoward4152 you look kinda cool though
@@zirafahtergelincir3756 Thanks! :)
Excellent points on comfortable speaking. Im new to vlogginh and realize at times, i will need to use a voice over. I subscribed for further helpful tips.
