I'm very slow in my progress. I've chosen ACX as my entry into Voice Acting. I've done about 25 books so far. So, I'm still pretty new. But, I'll tell you that it's a great way for you to figure out your DAW. I work it like a job. I narrate and edit about 8 hours per day. Currently, I get $100-$300 per finished hour. That's not great, but it's okay. You'll go crazy nit picking your fx chain and all of that side of the business. But, you'll find a reasonable solution. During this time, I've also done some other work. I played a White House Intern during President Nixon's administration in a documentary. I played the role of an angry Father in an Anime adventure. I've done the Intro and outro's of a couple of amazing podcasts. One of them was a podcast to help military people transitions to civilian life. I'm very humbled to have been a part of that one.
Being a Voice Actor is the best job I've ever had. This is what I was meant to do. I can't wait for the next surprise!
Hi Kenny! That's really interesting, did you get those diverse gigs all through ACX? How long have you been doing VO work?
@@EdgarHammer847 I'm on my second year. ACX is just for audiobook production. The other work is from Fiverr. I'm planning on expanding to other platforms soon. I have enjoyed all of the work I've done so far. So, I'm not sure what niche I'll end up in but I hope it's something I enjoy. So far I've done audiobook narration, advertisements, anime, a documentary, podcast intros/outros, and vo for a youtube video. I haven't done any e-learning so far.
Are you a voice actor? Or, thinking about getting into it? If so, let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Like I said, I'm not that advanced yet. But, I know enough to help someone just starting out. But, I think Angela has a coaching program so that might be a better bet.
How many "work hours" does it take to complete one finished hour? I am curious on what to expect. Thank you!
@@thecrowing1989 I think the goal is to work up to 2 hours of recording and editing to produce 1 finished hour. However, for myself, it takes me a lot longer, maybe 3-4 hours. In the beginning and up until you really figure out you're daw within your particular space, a lot of time is lost editing to overcome your ignorance with that. It's hard to get help getting your space treatment adequate and then your fx chain dialed in. Some people are naturally better at the technical stuff though so it varies. Then, you just have to get rid of any noises, breaths, dog's barking, traffic, adjust the pacing so it maximizes the natural conversational feel depending on the type of work, etc.
Hope some that helps.
@@kennymonty8206 Thank you so much for the resonse! I am in IT and mess with DAWs for my musical gear (mainly guitar). I am curious though, with today's technology, isn't it relatively easily to isolate your voice and cut out all external noise? I'm thinking of built-in technologies that programs like Discord have built-in. The tech exists. Thanks again!
I have to thank you for your inspiration and selfless advice.
After following your clear, concise and accurate advice and uploading my first audition to a title on ACX, I have been booked to narrate my first audiobook. Your advice made the process straightforward and enjoyable.
Bless you Angela. You’re an angel.
That's awesome, congratulations! Thank you so much!
Congrats for that you have been booked to narrate
Can I you tell me please how much you earned from your first audiobook.
Thanks to this inspirational lady, my 4th audiobook is not on sale.
Videos have ever been useful and instructive.
Thank you Angela for finding the time to make these videos as they are quite excellent
Okay, I'm going to sound super dramatic here, forgive me. But this is the first time I've actually seen someone else record for an audiobook, and I had no idea other people mess up while reading as often as naturally occurs. I literally started tearing up listening to you use the clicker realizing that I wasn't the only one...I literally thought that most people just read without error. So, I guess, thanks for being yourself and putting out this real life example. :) Also, your voice is stunning.
Thank you so much! Yes, we are real people who make real mistakes, sometimes alot... ha ha! Thanks for watching!
Wow! I too thought this! 😆
Its very normal.
i felt the same, thought peoplr read e book perfectly, didnt know errors existed either, such a learning experience to watch this video 👍🏻
I'm with you on this one, I am just trying to get into recording reading and since every other sentence I mess up, I kept thinking I'm just meant to read silently and for myself, but this cheered me up :D
Thanks for being so candid with your voice over recording, I am a noobie just getting into the scene. It's refreshing to see someone be so candid yet informative amongst their work.
I find ACX short on the ABC's and you make it look easy. Thanks so much. Having narrated my own book, I know the work that goes into it. I love the clicker idea to be able to see graphically where your edits need to be! I can really see that speeding up the process. Nice...Thanks again.
How does one but that? Sorry if I sound so naive I am just curious
I swear I've heard your voice before on some of the best audiobooks...such a perfect voice!
You are so generous with you knowledge and time. Your video has been tremendously helpful in every way. Thank you for giving your time to those of us who are just beginning or even thinking about it!
Thank you for taking the time to produce these videos and help out people that aren't in the know.
I am glad you enjoy them, I just wanted to help and share what I learn :) Thank you for watching!
I am SUPER excited about finding this today! Angela, thanks for this video! I created an account on ACX and am excited to get started! I've wanted to do Voice Over's for YEARS and life has had a way of pushing me in so many other directions, so I'm super happy that I stayed up late and found this great information! I have sooo much to learn, but I want to learn it ALL and get started ASAP!
Angela, this was so incredibly helpful! Seeing someone actually do the recording and editing was eye-opening for me. I have a whole list of things to research and learn now! Thank you!!!
Very informative, fantastic that you chose to actually let us see you working. I am an ex radio and night club dj and all through my career people have told me that I should be an actor or do voice-overs. I retired twenty years ago and working behind a mic is something I have always missed. Now, most of my children have grown up except one who is still very young, I have decided to try voice-overs. In the last 20 years equipment has changed a lot so I have much to learn, your channel will help me a lot I think, please keep up the good work!
I legit need a hand staring this . Can someone take pity on a guy who is completely lost . I’ll always give you props
Thanks for this. I'm just looking at getting into narration, and being able to see you go through these steps behind the scenes was very helpful.
Hi Angela, I'm a new voiceover artist who just signed up on ACX. Thank you so much for this video. You gave a lot of clear and precise information. Thank you again...
As a beginner VO talent, I really appreciate your video. Your video is very helpful and informative.
Thank you so much for watching! I'm so happy to help!
Nice presentation!! Efficient and comprehensive!! A rare thing these days!! Inspiringly admirable!
Thank you" not only do you know what to do, but you can teach to.😊You are so helpful😎!
I appreciate that! Thanks for watching!
New voice over artist here! Thank you for this video!
Thanks so much for your time in helping us audio newbies learn how to swim without feeling overwhelmed! You're so awesome!
I've mostly been anxious about what recording software to use; they all seem daunting with a lot of unfamiliar terms, buttons, and mechanics. Adobe Audition looks like a really user-friendly and approachable software, but I'm seeing that it's a monthly subsription, and it feels a bit steep. Can it not be purchased outright once? And, if not, do you know any other user-friendly audio softwares that would be just as great?
Thanks again, Angela! Stay as awesome as you are.
Audacity is free to use and download. There are others that you can purchase outright, I belive studio one and maybe reaper? I like audition as a subscription as it's always updated and enhanced.
Holy MOLY WOW, Angela! I hope I can find a sweet gig for you to give back what you’ve given me. This is SO ADHD-friendly, it’s not even funny. You gave every detail I needed, you said it right away, and you were REAL (right down to the chapstick.I hope you don’t lick your lips, that chaps them). I think I’ve heard your voice before ;-) Thank you SO much!
This was very helpful. I love your use of the clicker to help flag errors!
Hi Kristen! Yes, it makes it easy to find boo boos during editing. ;)
I'm completely new to this, still learning the basics prior to seeking jobs. Thanks so much for this helpful video. Up to now in my practise attempts, on audacity, I've stopped for every mistake and rerecorded there and then which is proving to be a right old faff 😕 I need to learn how this clicker business works as that looks far better, not disrupting the flow of your narration etc. Leaving editing to the end. How exactly does it work? (explain like I'm 5 please 😆)
@@angelaryder7777 The clicker makes a big peak in the audio wave recording, so you can see right where to go to in order to edit.
Thanks. Looking forward to submitting my first audition...and making the money!
I’m so glad I stumbled onto your channel! I’ve been prepping quite a bit to get started in this and already I’ve found so much great advice from your vids, thank you :)
Wow this was INCREDIBLY helpful! Thank you!!
This was a huge help. I got to see exactly what I needed to see, someone else just going through the process. I just submitted my first audition. I'm gonna keep at it. :) Fingers crossed I can be the right fit for some author's projects. THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Can you help me please!? 🙏 🙏 I don't see the upload for auditions??
Angela you have a lovely voice and I appreciate your help with the audition pointers.
Angela, thank you for this video. I am new to the VoiceOver process and excited to learn and get started. It is refreshing to watch a down to earth easy to understand process. Thanks again. Blessings.
Glad it was helpful!
I love your voice, you sound like a real professional...I will give it a try:)
Your voice is fierce!Yes
Excellent presentation thank you
You did amazing, im signing up today so i definitely enjoyed watching you go through it
Awesome! Thank you for watching!

Please I am an African form Nigeria does it affect my chance to pass.
Cause I don't the American accent
@@annjarius2250 thanks for watching! I don't know if ACX is available in Nigeria, you would really need to check for that first. But not having an American Accent will definitely not keep you from being able to narrate audiobooks. :)
@@VoiceOverAngela
Thanks.
Hi Angela. I found your video to be very helpful. I'm considering doing voice over work myself and recently submitted my first audition with ACX. Watching your video makes me realise the newbie errors I have made with that first audtiion 😊 but now having watched your video, I am much better informed. Thanks again for uploading this helpful guide.
Hello Angela...I would love to have your voice and you of course, as my Audiobook Narrator. Your personality and soft-spoken, example of reading is exactly what I need. Also, thank you so much for sharing, behind the scene aspects producers encounter, as I search, as a new Ebook Author. I will definitely contact your Website. Thanks again!!!
My daughter is a Mass comm freshman in college, I’m definitely going to send her your video. She needs a job , lol
Smartest video on this subject, that I have seen. This woman is a pro!!!
Thank you for being so transparent. This is very helpful. Thank you so much!
Wow, you sounded great. Do you have any tips for SMACKYNESS when speaking or anything that you do specifically.
Thank you for watching and for the compliment! I love this word Smackyness! Water, for sure. Hydration will help with mouth noise, I've also heard green apples help as well. I use a plug in from Izotope for reducing mouth noise, best investment ever....
@@VoiceOverAngela Great videos! What's the plug in called? Also, do you recommend any other plug ins?
This is Mr Reddy watched your video reg ACX is excellent and motivational to all freshers like me❤
This should be so much easier than the way I originally thought. Going to try it out. Thank you.
Glad to find your channel a couple of us out here going to try and do ACX recording... wish us luck.. subscribed *
Hello Angela! I have been considering tapping into the world of audiobook narration for some time now.
II’ve always been an avid reader (complete bookworm since young childhood)friends and strangers enjoy my storytelling style, cadence and different voices reading aloud. I really did get a good feel for functions that particular website and I appreciate that information. thank you and I hope your career continuous positive trajectory!
Fantastic video. Thank you for showing me the steps required for ACX!
Hi Angela! firstly, I simply can not describe to you, just how helpful your videos are to me. Although I've been singing and performing for 46 years, recording is very new to me. I have done work for local producers, including voice and screen acting. But, they did all the technical work! You, and your video content are a true blessing... Thank you so very much.
Thanks Angela! I'm new to audio narrating and this was so helpful in learning the in's and out's of submitting an audition.
This was very helpful, thank you! Love your voice! I have just one question (for now) HA! If we choose a book to audition for and then we get chosen for it, does the rights holder give you a digital version of the book to read? How does this work?
Hi Jodi! Great question, the book will be in an ebook/ digital form, pdf or doc usually. The Rights Holder cannot post a book for production without it already being available on Amazon as an ebook... if that makes sense... :)
@@VoiceOverAngela Ok, so this is what they call the manuscript correct?
@@jodiroy1809 yes, that is correct 😉
Oh my gosh!! You sound like Alexa!! So cool!!!
Your voice sounds like butter on bread.
This is inspiring. Thank you, kindly, for sharing with us. The clicker move is brilliant and not something I would have thought of beyond maybe yelping. lol
Hi, I'm so glad I ran across your video. Thanks.
🥰
you sound like siri/alexa you have that natural voice
I hear that all the time! I do really good AI sounding voices ;)
Thanks, Angela! I was excited to find this video and learn more about auditions. You are warm and easy to listen to and have been a great help and inspiration. Thank you!
What a lovely, calming voice you have. I really enjoyed watching and learning, however as at absolute beginner some of the technical stuff I.e the settings on the left of your computer system went a little over my head. I’m sure you have other videos on this so will look out.
I love your voice! I’m just getting started with voiceover and this video has been super helpful! Thank you!
Thank you so much, and thank you for watching!
I got chills! Your voice is so good!
😘 Thank you!
One thing I always had to overcome was being born in Brooklyn, New York. I was raised in Brooklyn, and graduated high school on Long Island, New York. I spent 22 years in the Marines, and I effectively lost, or more accurately, denied my accent. I can turn it on and turn it off. I graduated from the Academy of Radio Broadcasting in Newport Beach, California. I worked at KTMS, Santa Barbara, weekend board op, and KHVH, Honolulu, as weekend morning host. Now that I am an old timer, I would love to find work where I can use my voice and experience to narrate or present audio books in a unique voice.
That was awesome Angela- thank YOU. With your guidance, got my first sample up on ACX today. You're a star!!! ♥♥♥
Yay! That's great! Thank you!
You are delightful to watch. And VERY GOOD AT VO. Thanks for the lesson!
Very good! I like the clicker idea, very informative! Thank you!
Great video. I just subscribed. Thanks Angela!
wow, what a beautiful voice~
Thanks HUGE for this. I just started audiobooks last year, signing my first royalty-share before I realized it was basically working for free. But a great noob experience, before signing my first upfront paid book - as you noted. Auditioning most definitely is a learning curve that takes practice to perfect :)
i worked in radio and Tv for years until my last gig as producer and host went south in 1993. Now I'm a mortician (what a transition!), but I'd like to try getting back behind the mic again. I hope I can try narrating audio books. I love this video! You've shown me how to get my foot in the door, and I'm going to subscribe to your website.
Thank you so much. Give it a try, you might just love it!
Woah you voice is spot on. Also made me think of those automatic voice overs. Amazing
Oh your good!!! Wow
Thank you very much, Angela. I appreciate the insight you give and I am happy to subscribe to your channel. I teach people in prison how to prepare themselves for an unfriendly job market. Your channel is a big help.
Excellent video. Very informative. I'm on the other side of this as a writer looking to release audio copies of my books. I was wondering about the ACX process and how professional voice-over artists record, edit, and submit their recordings to ACX. Thank you.
The minute you started reading... Geez. I'm mixing my client's first audiobook right now and I think I have the mixing part...
Thank you for putting this together. As an amateur looking to do this type of work professionally, this was really helpful. Subscribed!
This video is a GREAT help in putting the practice process in perspective.
This is such great info! Thanks so much. Perfect walk-through for us all. Very much appreciated
Thankyou 😊
I loved you and this video, i was searching for ACX advice how to start, it helped me super great way, thank you so much. You are Angela you are an Angel hehe. thank you again for giving much detail explanation.
You were made for this work. I am super inspired. I want a studio, that software, the whole nine. Thanks for this very informative video. Subbed.
Awe, thank you so much! Go get started, I'm so glad that I've inspired you!

Wonderful! I'm so glad to help! Thank you

Can you please make a step by step video on how to use the editing program. 😊
Im new to this whole and would like to learn more from you.

Great idea, thanks!

I’m hoping to use ACX and videos like yours to enter the VO industry. I really love using my voice. Just need to work on my method and acting.
Go for it, if you have a love for books and storytelling, it'll come naturally for you. Thanks for watching!
ok thank you for your step by step video this was great thank you so much
Thank you for sharing this information. Your voice is truly perfect for Meditations.
I watched this from beginning to end and I must say you are definitely in the right field for this! 🔥🔥🔥Your voice is PERFECT not just for meditation audiobooks, but for Ai as well! Have you ever considered doing that as an alternative? Thank you SO much for providing such valuable content that beginners like myself can learn from🙏🏽😊
Thank you! No, I don't record voice over for AI modeling. I record for video game AI / computer characters, but not for AI use.
Awesome vid! This tutorial is gold thanks ma’am!!!

Thank you so much for this demo, this is really helpful tip to get me started with audiobooks, I didn't know how I should be recording it, whether 1 go or small paragraphs, and the clicker is a fantastic idea :) wish you all the best
I am at that point in my life where I am wanting something else, then I come across ACX and then your youtube channel. I wondered why there's no Filipino person doing this here? I am a middle aged woman with very little computer experience, but I am very interested in dong this. I wonder if i could do this and will there be an audience out there for myself? I guess i have to try for me to know right? I feel overwhelmed but i will go thru some more of your you tube channel... its very inspiring.... Thank you and God Bless...
i am a first time user. I found your video very helpful but would like to know more about editing a audiobook. Thanks
