I like Teal's motto of measuring 23 times and drilling only once. 😁
You all are so awesome the way you work together. I’m really happy to see you out exploring some too. Somehow you have get Teal healthy and stay that way. You are a great team together. Love your videos.
You were off by 4”?!?!?! You, Master of Precision?!😮 It makes me feel better because you are always so perfect and precise. Now I don’t feel too bad about my work. Even tough I would been off by…. 8”!😂
Love your channel
Nice work Teal
12:14 That’s my kind of luck, lol Hope you Didnt get into too much trouble. Nicely done Teal
I came to see you up there in Astoria. I am still following you and enjoy watching your journey. Keep it up.
Awesome! Thank you!
Hey there! So glad to see you're excited about watching this new episode of Onboard Lifestyle! It's always great to dive back into the basics and see a project mode in action. Enjoy the journey, my friend! 🌊⛵️
Love the thumbnail. Either Tiel has shrunk a lot, or that’s one massive winch.
I know everything doesn’t always go perfectly, but your planning and attention to detail is outstanding.
Great work Teal! I'm always impressed with the quality of your work and workmanship! Basik is lucky to have you looking after her!
Emma is such a lovely young lady - she is such a credit to your loving upbringing - please may all of you stay safe and well and continue your glorious adventure
Teal your work is so clean and precise.I really enjoy seeing you work and hope I can do the same quality of work...
Nicely done.
Hi guys, wow looks fantastic even like the idea of having those fender washes on there. I think it’ll be much stronger. Keep up the good work love and appreciate you all Cliff from Logan City Queensland Australia
Measure with a micrometer. Mark with chalk. Cut with an ax. The new winches are a nice addition.
I will watch this now and enjoy it. Yes, I will. 🙃
Wow, incredible job Teal.
Teal is a master at boat building I’ve missed the projects
Measure twice, bag once~ :( But honestly, I am the same way when I have a project. Fit and re-fit until I finally commit to drilling holes etc. Love your channel.
Neal, it amazes me how you can see how the project has to go from start to finish, you have the whole thing planned out with every minute detail before you even begin, what a great talent to have that oversight to see the whole project before you even pick up the drill. Congrats on the installation of the winches, they are beautiful. Hope that makes putting up that sail so much easier!
Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice work m Trail..............of course!! These winches should really help you guys out tremendously. See you next time.✨ 🌊 💨 ⛵️ 🏝️ 👙 🌞 ✨
Another project complete. It look good too. Even though you missed the position of your trash bag. Those are really good looking winches. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂
safe travels
YES !! Butyl Tape is KING. I use it everywhere...most recently on my own winches and hatch bolts. Good video! Thank you for keeping it real...showing mistakes and all.
Looking good
Great job
Thank you for your videos
Great work as usual Teal ....as a Butyl expert myself ....as I mentioned before always always clean your surface with Isopropyl Alcohol before applying the butyl tape..including bolts.....
I was also wonder why you did not seal the inner core with a coat of epoxy... just asking ...
Fairwinds from the @captains.chair
Those really make things look finished Teal and we all know how you are about things being just right. Glad to see your wing is feeling better now as i know how that can be bothersome. Hope we get to see that addition at work.be careful and stay safe my friends God love ya all ❤
I'd love to know how you made these perfectly circular backer plates.
Great work guys. Well the new Harken you are choosing are suboptimal. These chrome plated rope guides are cheapest thin metal stuff and frequently bend and destroy the plastic underneath it, every time 90Euro for the metal and 50 for the plastic underneath...2 of my buddy boats had them and after spending each >500Euro on these rope guides they replaced them with good old used model which have casted brass rope guides that are bassically indistructable.
Those barrel nuts work great and give it a nice finished look. Great job!
As always, a great job. I think the washers just make the job look correct also.
Great new beginning
Nice work, as always. I guess the Linh holding the bucket approach beats the taped plastic bag approach. 😂
Love your content so much Teal. A true Master.
Congratulations Teal for another work well done!
Could you please let us know which material the backplates are made of!
Thank you!
Awesome, meticulous work as usual. Is there anything the crew of Basik can’t do?
Greetings once again from Anacortes!
Lol, there are many things we can't do, but we'll definitely give it a shot!
Oh wow......new Wenches for the boat. Arghhhhh!
Thankyou
nice work great jobTeal!!
Great episode! Coincides with our next project! AND Compass made an early appearance!
This epi gave me a few chuckled. Good job
Great job. I would have put some anti seize on those barrell nut threads.
Sail on sail on sailor. Barrel nut or acorn nut ?😂
Sweet
For the future, you can just grind a 1/8 inch off those bolts for the barrel nuts to fit so you don't need the washers.
As he said in the video though, he actually likes having the washer on there because it helps spread the load of the nut over a wider area on the backing plate.
You call them barrel nuts. In the Ornamental Architectural fabrication industry, we call the barrel nut & bolt set, sex bolts. If you type that into the McMaster-Carr search box, barrel nuts will come up. I think it must be a widely used slang term.
😎
👍👍
Us builders call engineers twisted.
Can you see when you get a thumbs up? 12:23, way to go! :-)
I guess your next big purchase will be a new dingy?
Emma has a future in broadcasting ,i
Teal, I hope your arm injury is improving.
Your videos are excellent, does Emma do the editing.
That mess could have been worse, Teal. You tried! Be well ❤
I'm surprised Teal didn't make some calipers to measure the thickness.
I was hoping to see the new winches in use.
Should you have enlarged the holes and filled them with epoxy before drilling bolt holes to stop water damage to core?
This is how he answered that same question earlier.
"That's the beauty of NidaCore. Even if water did get in, it wouldn't do much. The core is polypropylene honeycomb that is impervious to moisture."
Didn't counter sink washer and barrow nut so it's not a head knocker? Thought you would use cickaflex to seal
I'm curious why you decided not to over drill those holes and then fill with epoxy before re-drilling so that any water penetration doesn't get into the core.
That's why he sealed around the holes with butyl sealing tape. I'm guessing that above the water line, what you're suggesting just wouldn't be necessary.
That's the beauty of NidaCore. Even if water did get in, it wouldn't do much. The core is polypropylene honeycomb that is impervious to moisture.
👍
I'm guessing, because you never mentioned, that the curvature of you boat kept the backer-plates 100% flush.. otherwise would it have not been better to place that butyl tape to the complete top plate. Or does that tape not work on flat surfaces like that! I understand the squish/seal, at the bolts, but curious if it works on 2 flat surfaces too. Or do you caulk around the top plate?
Oh, and personally, I'd have drilled maybe 2 or 3 pilot holes using that top plate (small bore) then put that bag up inside using those small holes as guides.. very little clean up, spot on bag placement!
👍🧿
I was a little concerned about the placement, I’m hoping that the winches are far enough aft that you can comfortably grind them. It can be awkward if they’re set too far from the edge of the deck.
Oh, and it’s “backing plate”.
That’s all good but what did Lynn make for dinner?
Thickened Epoxy ??? :)
Only if you want 'oh glorious, glorious sanding '.
do you need to oversize the holes and fill with epoxy and then redrill to prevent water ingress or does the core not get waterlogged ??
This is how he answered that same question earlier.

@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 thanks
Could you have put the fender washer on the bolt end to hide it or would that create a gap on top?
is his injury healing nice?
Slowly but surely getting better. Thanks for asking!
👍✌️
But what's about 'Drill, fill, drill?'
DFD is for cored material that is susceptible to decay. Basik has a polypropylene core and is not necessary. With the exception of holes below the waterline were it doesn't hurt to go that extra mile.
Would you ever use lock tight on any of the nuts and bolts. (FYI not a sailor)
No need, the barrel nuts are in such a visible location that it's easy to inspect daily.
12:33 oops 🙄
It happens! 🙄
How am I seeing 3300 views but 45k likes?
I don't know what you're looking at but there are only 967 likes at the moment.
Wow you’re right it’s down to 1k now. Something funny is happening. I’m watching another video it also has 45k likes.
@@genewaddlerandomstuff2122 yo now the 3rd video I’m watching has 45k likes what’s going on
@@Footballislife1900 That's a question you'd have to ask RUclips.
It's ORIENT.....not....."...orientTATE......"
According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, both are correct.
Teals workmanship is a joy to watch, perfection and looks great! Beautiful work Teal! Question; would you recommend lock tight on the barrel nuts? And is there a torque setting for tightening down the winches?
Can’t wait for the next episode!
