You think watching your boat being built is exiting just wait until you hold your baby for the first time, I was present when my daughter was born that was the best day of my life the best day before that was my wedding day 😊
Interesting to see the difference in building technique here vs the company that build the hull for "Distant shores". I think they are each on a different side of the spectrum. Where most modern yards nowadays use precise CNC cut parts, here I see a lot of hammering, grinding, bending and the application of serious force to "make" things fit. As much as i appreciate the older craftsmanship, this leaves a lot of stress in the material resulting in a lot of stress in the hull. I do however like the hull thickness that comes with this process. I worked a lot on Dutch shipyards in my younger years in the beginning of my welding career. Watching this is taking me 35 years back in time, if not more.
in Garcia, Boreal, and so on ( so in the same country) , it's more "new-fashion style". Meta is different cause they play only with very thick aluminium with much less "T" reinforcements so much much less welding at the end of the day. But as you can see, you have problem with this "two radius curve bow on a short piece", but most of the pieces are CNC cutted too. The solution is a female/male mould to make a custom stamped part in a single operation, but it would be too expensive. for 8mm thick alloy, what i see here ( press then hammer ) seems not a big deal for the stress, this piece won't move again.
Those fellows are walking talking blueprint artists. Love their methodology of construction as well as their artistic or creative ways of mission solutions. The precision of their workflow is like poetry in motion. Thx for letting us see yalls expertise. Thx for filming. The new parent dance book is filling up properly now. So excited for you two. Your world is soon to explode from boat to baby excitement. I’m beside myself too. Be safe and have fun with vacation trips.
Guys, guys, guys, this video was amazing, amazing, amazing, WOW! now we can understand the amount of effort and machanical engineering that goes into making these beauties, please give a big thanks to the manufacturing company, that allows you to film this, WOW!!!!!
Wow, the building process is amazing. Thank you for sharing this with us. And thank the welder who eventually accepted to be filmed! By the way, I don't know if anybody asked already but, what are the advantages of this kind of bow with a "negative" angle? Is this just a matter of design or does it creates less drag "cutting" the waves? I see a lot of recent boats with this kind of bow which remind me the 19th century ocean liners (to some extent).
Good question regarding the negative bow angle. You are correct in saying this bow design idea has been around for a very long time. The US Navy actually built a destroyer with a similar bow design a few years ago. Not a naval architect so I don't have any answers as to whether the bow angle might be more efficient than a more traditional bow design.
Your dedication to building a new 43ft aluminum exploration sailboat is truly remarkable. Your commitment to crafting such a significant vessel shows your exceptional skill, passion, and determination to embark on new adventures. And I am Floating Village Life.
The boat is taking magnificent shape! And Roberta and baby boy are looking fantabulously. Hope you have a wonderful vacation. Look forward to the next updates be safe in your travels....
Duca, The Aluminum struk by hammer displaces to all sides back and side. if the strike is powerful enough your plate will be thinner and stretched. its called a frog in car body repair because you can make it jump from one side to the other and it stays like that. Its the same on cars when you got hit and the panels bend. the body shop back in the days and i think still now if they do not just replace the entire panel. they hit on the outer side of the dent to push the metal crystals back to the midle. this thickens the spot and makes it stronger on the dent again. Sometimes heat is used to 1 make it easier to push the metal. AND OR to relax the metal crystals so no micro cracks show up. I would not really advise high heat on aluminum :p then again if you clown around on thin body panels with heat they will also warp. ITS AN ART :p and bending a piece of alu at 8mm thick... These guys are well trained hats off! Good thing to see they both are getting shape :p Btw i am from Belgium.... We have the best Chocolate IN THE WOOOOOOOOOOOOORLD!! And beer, of in het Vlaams bier. Dutch is for the dutch.
Duca may you both have a wonderful visit with family and friends. Stay safe and healthy. I think you are doing a great job showing how Meta builds their boats and especially the care taken in the first of a model. Your videos with luck will bring them more business Look forward to the next news and video. All the best, Hal
Having been busy with our own project, we didnt hear the good news Roberta, my wife and myself are delighted for you and Luca, ( No, we are not talking about the boat ).. beautiful !
Compliments to all involved! Meta is certainly the best in Alu constriction. They were already well known in 1975 when i was planning my boat. But I decided for a fiberglass/ kevlar catamaran and never looked back. If I remember well thefamous french singerbAntoine had his first yacht built at Meta? Like most vloggers he later changed to a catamaran. You probably will too! Good Luck! 🎉
Thanks guys for this great episode. It brought tears to my eyes to see what love, care, experience and of course skill these craftsmen exercise in building these Meta boats. As you know we have two Meta’s and as we bash through 2 meter waves and confused seas it gives me great confidence to know what was behind each and every weld. Enjoy your holidays. We will be back in Port Saint Louis next week leaving our dear Arktika Meta Voyager 47 on the hard in Scotland.
Que maravilloso amigos y felicitaciones por su bebé que todo siga saliendo maravillosamente un abrazo enorme. Por acá ya en esta semana próxima haré posesión y firma de mi velero así que estén atentos que les enviaré noticias
Duca, the expertise of the men who are building the bow includes being able to conceptualize in their mind what they need to do. They create a movie in their mind. That can only happen with experience. They are working with thick and rigid materials in numerous planes, not thin and pliable like your paper model from a few weeks ago. The big machine that bends the sheets is called a "brake press". Impressive.Wow... seven weeks ago. It seems like just yesterday. :¬) Webhead USA
... it is truly amazing, eye opening and just plain fun to watch masters at their craft work ... and when their craft is thick hunks of metal, wow ... just wow ...
So awesome to watch these master boat builders do their work. And even better to see how your baby is growing! Wow, how the time passes so quickly! All the best❤
Those boat builders are SO skilled. What a great team you have working there. It is not easy at all to bend and weld those sheets with the accuracy required to produce a beautiful boat.
great video , I love watching the skills by the people at Meta , I,ve been watching you guys for yrs , have a great holiday , hope Roberta is doing great , all the best to you both .
Roberta you are looking wonderfull ... Though i know your body will be shouting atbyou and the little one playing football with your bladder. 😂 🧙🏻♂️😎 Good luck and rest while you can..
This is fantastic. The processes involved are incredible and show such a high degree of skill from thr workers at this yard. Keep well and safe. James.
☺️ o Duca acompanhou a obra dele.
Fantastic explanation of how this project is going Ducca and momma Roberta looks even more gorgeous looking forward to seeing you guys in your next vlog love and best wishes from Tasmania Australia 🇦🇺
WOW Roberta your bump is growing. I hope both of you are going to take a break too enjoy the new arrival when he makes an appearance. Back top the boat, the hull really is taking shape, before you know it the deck will be getting ready to go down. 2x👍
That bow piece could easily have been made by a cnc machine from solid stock ! 😮it would have been stronger and can have any number of custom features that you desire. ❤
A baby and a new boat in the same year what a lucky year 2024 is for you both (well the boat interior probably won't be finished in 2024, but the hull might be) Wishing Roberta and baby are healthy and a trouble free birth 🤞
You think watching your boat being built is exiting just wait until you hold your baby for the first time, I was present when my daughter was born that was the best day of my life the best day before that was my wedding day 😊
Let the Meta employees know they are so talented and inspiring to watch them create this awesome piece of art!! We love looking over their shoulders!!

@philv3941 the stress in the sides....helps :).
Huge respect for the builders!

I am amazed at how much time and effort it takes to build this bow section! True craftsmen!
That baby bump is a blessing. God bless you both!

I LOVE the music choices you’ve made with this!
So fascinating, I learned allot. Thank you for making this video! And enjoy when she's ready!
☺️
This is such a cool thing to watch. I can't imagine how hard it is to get exact bends on a slab of aluminum that large.
So awesome to watch these master boat builders do their work. And even better to see how your baby is growing! Wow, how the time passes so quickly! All the best❤
Those boat builders are SO skilled. What a great team you have working there.

The special bendingtools they use....super cool to watch...👍👍👍
I'm glad to see the progress and that it makes you both so happy. Enjoy your vacation!
Marvelous filming, fantastic editing and the perfect music! I.e., a great video.
Great fun watching them construct your boat, they're going to be the most famous aluminium fabricators in the world!!!
Sounds like a very Sirius boat-yard visit in Germany.
Wow a lot of effort from the boys. Well done.
Congratulations on your baby bump ❤
Going to be so good to see in little costumes.

Be safe stay healthy enjoy your vacation.
God bless you guys and good luck with the baby girl.
That is a true skill to fit that metal panel with so perfectly on ❤!
Thanks guys, you’re terrific! Enjoy what Europe has to offer! Cheers 🇬🇧

Blessings on you both
Vai ficar irado esse barco.
