"CNN anchor Chris Wallace asked Hollywood star and activist Eva Longoria why “some Hispanics are now saying, you know, maybe the I’ve got a place in the Republican Party?”
On this week’s edition of HBO Max and CNN’s Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace, Wallace interviewed Longoria and Succession star Brian Cox.

Dad's a Polish immigrant and has leaned heavy republican for years. He joined the military, fought to get raises, stayed for 28 years. Once he retired, he went right back into the work force. He has a good nest egg for retirement and hates "lazy" people. He's pissed I have a basic retail job and was dating people who work at gas stations and the movie theater. He doesn't understand this economy and is one of the people who says I need to stop "wasting money" on avocado toast. He bought his house in '89 for $68K. It's now worth $350K. When my brother and I were growing up, we were covered in all medical and dental. I had free braces. He doesn't realize how much civilians have to pay and refuses to understand why people took out student loans and why I'm struggling with a phone bill, car insurance, and car taxes here. One medical bill and a paycheck is wiped out, even at $12 an hour. I'm a severe asthmatic and immunocompromised. ONE flu and a doctor visit is $300. I don't have rent and, in this area, I couldn't AFFORD it. Double wide trailer is $925 a month. My dad will just ... never understand my generation and below are F*ed.

Amen! I am surrounded by people of the same mentality. And including many who grew up poorer and not even very politically involved but had a WAY better chance of making it into a better life than is remotely possible for a young adult nowadays.
And I got great grades in school, so many of these older people think I’m “choosing” to not be well off. They’re unable to see that it’s literally a completely different economy and structure now, and it’s hard to get upward Mobility even if you work really hard and get good grades, etc.
I think it’s easier for them to convince themselves that they’re right, and that the problem is that the youth are just “lazy” instead of acknowledging that they were the ones who supported the politicians like Reagan and Clinton, that broke the economy and social safety net, tax cuts for the rich, trickle down economics, the crap that ultimately led us ALL here, but especially disadvantaging the younger generations. It’s so frustrating to know all this, and it’s even borne out in statistics, that millennials are the first generation in literally decades that will have a lower quality of living than their parents did.
And the housing market is truly insane, and raising kids is so enormously expensive, and they wonder why millennials and younger people aren’t having families anywhere close to the rate that Americans used to! It’s simple, it’s literally because it’s just too expensive! Most of my friends can barely afford the cost of living for just themselves and their partners, let alone kids! And they work hard, just to break even every month!

The truth is this Democrats are the only trying do things that help the Americans people but the biggest thing is that people don't understand government and things work . The more Republicans that you put in office the less things get done but the only thing Republicans do is culture wars to scare there supporters into voting for them but getting back to government you have to have the numbers especially in the Senate with 60 votes but the House you can just have a majority to pass legislation but there is only one exception to the 60 in the Senate is reconciliation that you can only use twice per congress but the problem comes in when you have a Manchin or a Cinma and I don't care if I spell her name or his right but they are the reason why the Democrats couldn't do more but get the price of insulin down is huge to allot of people and Manchin 13:29 was the reason why all all drug prices were not able to be negotiate which would save Americans a whole lot of money with no Republicans votes . If Latinos need to understand that Socialism is this Country is good thing not like it is in Cuba because if not for Socialism we wouldn't have social security and alot of people wouldn't have food or some place to stay.

If Dems would just correct these two devastating policies, it would do wonders for everyday Americans!
Disgusting fact is that many of the Dems who also APPROVED for these policies are multi-millionaires themselves, therefore taking advantage of those policies and why they refuse to overturn them when they have the majority!

Here’s context for you…i challenge you to name one piece of legislation passed under dtrump that contributed to a growing economy, or job market. On the other hand…I can show where Obama’s American Recovery And Reinvestment Act created a record 11yrs of continued economic, and employment growth, as outlined by Forbes, The Bureau Of Economic Statistics, as well as the Bureau Of Labor, And Statistics, and other record keeping agencies! Dtrump liked to take credit for Obama’s successes, but when he had to duplicate it…all he did was reveal his incompetence, as evidenced by his record loss of jobs, and economic losses! Most of which Biden managed to turn into positive’s as is usually the case with Democratic Presidents that inherit Republican economic disasters! Presently Biden holds the distinction of having the lowest unemployment rate of any POTUS since they’ve been keeping the record. As well as decreasing the deficit by $1.4 trillion in 2022 despite the GOP claim of an increase in deficit spending! In essence my friend…I’d say your context a bit lacking in substance, and statistical accountability!

Maybe they might even admit to their ethnic background but see themselves more as white or become white supremacist apologist. This shit happens and happens more than people realize because as white people start start to lose population size, the definition of “whiteness” has to change and include nonwhites that fut the mold of what is whiteness best. Latinos are split depending on what part of Latin America they are from. If they're from communist/socialist countries like Cuba and Venezuela they most likely vote GOP. While, generally central Americans (mostly Mexicans and Panamanians) most likely vote for Dems. Roots for that dichotomy is because most of the initial immigrants from Cuba and Venezuela, when Castro and Chavez took power, were from the upper class thus lean more conservative. On the other hand, most of the initial immigrants from central American countries are lower working-class people thus they want the party that protects them financially and socially.

I think the culture wars do influence Latinos. Being Latino, I know there's lots of homophobia, transphobia, etc. among Latinos. Racist Latino's are a thing. If it were an Afro-Latino from the Dominican Republic, instead of the white-ish looking Eva Longoria, it would be a very different take on this subject. Many white passing or lighter skinned Latino's look down on Afro-Latinos, mestizos and Black Americans. I have witnessed this many, many times. I strongly believe Latino's are starting to be accepted into whiteness much like the Irish, Jews, Italians, etc. in the past. Especially white passing Latinos. One example is Cubans in Florida being embraced by Republicans. Agreed, the economy is important to Latino's but ignoring these other things is a mistake.

Several reasons: Many of my Latino family members love authoritarians. It’s not by mistake that so many dictators rise in Latin America. Also, religion is influencing Latinos to reject liberalism over abortion and LGBT rights. Finally, crime is the last thing. Latinos perceive liberals as not giving a damn about crime in the inner city. When I talk to family members, that can’t understand why I’m so liberal, their reasoning for opposing me is often what I listed. Ultimately, religion is why. Latinos believe they are in a religious way in this more liberal society.

Eva is from texas, latino voters are tired of the democrats party using us when they feel fit around election time. Example beto spoke spainsh, and it was nice and cute for the first 2 debates. After that he kept doing it bc he believed that it was helping him with latinos. At that point it felt like he thought we’re kids or stupid enough that he tell us he has candy in his van so we’ll go follow him. We latinos are not pawns. We’re americans. And i rather republicans say we hate Latinos straight up. Than to have the democrats lie about caring for us every 4 years

Maintaining the status quo of a predominantly white Christian society is the Republican agenda. Immigrants of all backgrounds aim to assimilate & be accepted into the dominant society/tradition. The archetype of that society/tradition is the white Christian conservative. Therefore some minorities will hitch their wagons to the interests of that demographic regardless of the detriment levied to any other non-white group, sometimes including their own. And since this country was founded upon white hegemony & black oppression, some minorities instinctually distance themselves from the black struggle in an attempt to hold status in the metaphorical eyes of the dominant society. Ironically enough, most non-white immigrants can thank the black American struggle for the opportunity of having made it here, courtesy of the Immigration Act of 1965.
