"When a Wyoming judge temporarily blocked an abortion ban last week, she did so on karmically beautiful legal grounds: Republicans hated Obamacare so much that they amended the state constitution more than a decade ago to enshrine the right to make health care decisions.
Earlier this month, lawmakers in Wyoming passed a ban on abortion “at all stages of pregnancy except in cases of rape or incest that’s reported to police, or to save a woman’s life,” as well as a separate ban on medication abortion. They also threw into the text that they don’t believe abortion is health care, per the Associated Press and the Casper Star Tribune."

I grew up in FL, and I did not report my rapist to the police. I did end up pregnant at 16 years old. I decided to terminate as that pregnancy was not a pregnancy to me. It was a torture or death sentence to me mentally and also physically with an abusive partner! Many years later, I’m now a mother to my beautiful and very loved children. My husband is an amazing daddy and gentle husband. I realize that I’m so so fortunate and blessed. ❤ I’m forever thankful I had the option and an OBGYN who saved my life from abuse.

Absolutely cruel and further victimizes the woman (or girl) who was raped who doesn't report it. An 11 or 12 year old child, for example, may have just started her period and be irregular, so she may not even realize she's pregnant or even recognize the symptoms. If she's molested by a "trusted" relative, there is a whole dynamic and host of reasons that she may not report it. Fear, shame, guilt, brainwash. Let's not forget that she is a CHILD. Why do we put the responsibility on a little girl instead of where it should be, on the rapist/molester? So we further victimize her and say, "Oh no, you're 7 weeks along so now, at 12 years old, not even fully developed or grown and not emotionally or mentally capable of understanding or dealing with carrying a baby to term....we are going to force you to anyway and make you give birth."

@@ramonlopez95 Firstly, because reporting a rape means you have to tell the experience, therefore reliving it.
Secondly, most cops are poorly trained when it comes to handling a rape victim (not really their fault, cops just don't have enoigh training hours in general). The line of questions quickly goes to "why were you there ?" "What were you wearing ?" "Are you sure you didn't do anything that could be interpreted as an invitation ?" basically, it very often becomes an interrogation about the victim's behavior and how they supposedly could've avoided the situation, putting all the blame and responsibility of the event on them, which has been proven to be extremely damaging. Most people just don't want to go through that.
There's also the unfortunate fact that a lot of perpetrators are often very close to the victims (either a family member or a manipulating partner). Which make it more likely for the victim to either not be in a state of mind to report the rape, or being pressured to sweep things under the rug.
And even if they did, then there's all the juridic parade that victims are rarely in a state to handle, so they naturally try to avoid it.
And even if they go through it, there's a unfortunately pretty decent chance it will lead to nothing, or next to it. So why would they bother ?
I understand the logic behind the "the rapist will continue if they're not reported", but it's just a perspective too pragmatical that neglects how traumatizing the whole experience is, particularly for a person who already has been recently traumatized by the rape itself. The current structure simply does not allow victims to feel safe in the way their case will be handled if they report the rape, so they don't.

I know women in their 20s and 30s who requested a tubal ligation. Their doctors refused to do it telling them they "are too young".
At age 18 the men & women of this country can enlist in the military & risk their lives in combat, but the women "are too young" to get a tubal ligation. Seriously??? This is why there are so many, many people on welfare with children they didn't want to give birth to. Women are forced to be mothers. It's sickening that the men of our country think they have the right to control women's reproductive rights!!😢

However, reproductive rights are inclusive of you having autonomy of your reproductive organs, which are used to hold and birth a child. Should a person not be allowed to determine what they want and don't want in their reproductive parts after a zygote ( not a human being) has been formed? And if you are going to argue that cells that are unable to survive on their own outside of a human being are considered a living thing, then you had best pick up every piece of skin you find on the ground and treat it dearly.

“Human embryos, whether they are formed by fertilization (natural or in vitro) or by successful somatic-cell nuclear transfer (SCNT - i.e., cloning), do have the internal resources and active disposition to develop themselves to the mature stage of a human organism, requiring only a suitable environment and nutrition. In fact, scientists distinguish embryos from other cells or clusters of cells precisely by their self-directed, integral functioning - their organismal behavior. Thus, human embryos are what the embryology textbooks say they are, namely, human organisms - living individuals of the human species - at the earliest developmental stage.” - Dr. Robert George
A person absolutely should not be able to k!ll a defenseless human being to make their life easier. There isn't a full right to autonomy as post viability abortion restrictions and waiting period laws prove. Your "logic" is like saying child abuse needs to be legal because how dare the law "control" someone's hands (fists). You see, child abuse laws are NOT about controlling anyones body - neither are abortion restrictions. BOTH are a bout protecting defenseless human beings.

If you just want birth control, a bilateral salpingectomy is much safer. And since the permanence of the procedures is often a roadblock, this one has a workaround where you can only get pregnant if you use IVF (or if there's a freak accident and the egg somehow makes it across the gap, but that's only happened a grand total of three times), so there's less pushback.

I had eclampsia whilst pregnant with my twins, and they were both regular sized babies, not small. But at 7 months my eclampsia was going to put me into seizures, so they hospitalized me, put me on mega doses of magnesium in IV to stave off seizures whilst they spent 3 days pushing steroids in me to help their lungs develop faster because they had to get them out or it would kill me, but they needed every second inside me to grow. They told me if their lungs are not developed at least mostly, the baby will not survive. I know this is an older post. But, I wanted to add my experience to further highlight the grotesque lack of knowledge most boys, men and even male OB/GYN doctors have regarding dangerous pregnancies. 38 years ago I became very ill. I was reeling with pain and at risk of passing out and possibly dying because my head struck a curb, sharp table or I fainted in the tub. I was using barrier contraceptives which worked very well for years and felt much better than when I was dosing myself with the heavy-duty oral contraceptives. At first, my OB/GYN told me I kidney stones, pancreatitis and a possible ovarian cyst." Despite taking antibiotics and pain medication, I grew worse. Finally, the OB/GYN ordered a pregnancy test and an ultrasound. I had a tubal pregnancy. Instead of rushing me to surgery, the doctor suggested I do tests over the course of 4-5 days to see if the hormones associated with pregnancy increased or decreased. My dad came into town during this ordeal to visit me. He did not know I was so ill. He desperately wanted me to have children. I did not want children. He asked if the embryo could be transplanted into my uterus. I don't know if such a surgery was available then -or now. I said no. I was told the embryo was no longer viable, was dying, and would be absorbed by my body. (This is the super advice I received from my doctor. Later cysts developed within my fallopian tube and outside the tube but attached to it. I had a procedure that supposedly fixed that. It did not work. Many years later there were complications from the failure of that surgery which nearly killed me.) If I were young enough today to have developed a tubal pregnancy in a state where abortion is severely limited or banned, I could find myself facing a serious legal inquiry and the often deadly complications because of abortion restriction, Doctors would be afraid to terminate the pregnancy. If anyone I knew disagreed with fact that I sought medical intervention for a dangerous pregnancy that could have ruptured my fallopian tube, they could report me. I could be prosecuted. (If found guilty of terminating my pregnancy several vindictive male legislators suggested the death penalty.) If someone helped me get services in another state they could be prosecuted. Overwhelmingly, these laws restricting and/or criminalizing abortion regardless of the circumstances are ushered into law at the behest of men. Men who have little to no knowledge of the risks posed by pregnancy. Men who have no sympathy for very young girls who are victims of incest (statutory rape) or victims of a violent sexual attack. Men who have determined that their religious beliefs negate the rights and needs of a suffering female. Unless a girl or woman wishes to consult a man she trusts, men should have ZERO input about the reproductive decisions of women and girls. The last outrage saved for pregnant women, single mothers or women whose spouses are not financially stable, is that once that baby is born the mother is likely to require social services to adequately care for herself and her child. Health care, daycare, food stamps and other benefits for poor families are currently inadequate.. Benefits that the uber-conservatives want to limit. They want to submit women and children to draconian requirements for the basic necessities of life. They care more about forcing females to submit or suffer privation than about cherishing the children thy cared so much about while it was in the womb. Like sexual assault, these laws are about power. These laws are about misogyny and resentment that women are gaining influence and shedding the burden of chattel. If men are determined to control the most intimate decision that a woman can make, I suggest that they be required to study every aspect of pregnancy, gain hands-on knowledge by working, for free in hospitals and clinics, and spend months living under the same conditions they want to subject poor families to. By the end of three to five years they may have acquired enough experience to avoid sounding like total cretins when they attempt to discuss reproductive rights

Just like there are exceptions on when it's OK to kill someone (e.g. if they are about to kill you then its OK to kill them but you cannot go around killing someone to make your life easier) there are exceptions in abortion restrictions saying abortion is allowed if the woman's life is threatened from her pregnancy but obviously shouldn't be allowed for excuses like money or "not the right time for a child".... doctors are (or should be) smart enough to know when abortion is the only way to save the life of a pregnant woman or is early delivery is needed to save her life. If they don't they need to lose their license or they are using women to try to get abortion to be legal for any lame reason a woman wants (maybe they make $$$ on the side at the local abortuary, who knows).

Some people might not know this; but in Florida, at least when I lived there, incest is criminally applicable to both parties involved, even if one is a child. That's one reason people don't report. When my ex was impregnated by her father, she went to the police and was told that she shouldn't prosecute becasue she could also be charged and suffer the same punishment.

    • @ruaraidh74
      @ruaraidh74 Год назад +1

"Whoever knowingly marries or has sexual intercourse with a person to whom he or she is related by lineal consanguinity, or a brother, sister, uncle, aunt, nephew, or niece, commits incest, which constitutes a felony of the third degree".
This is a milktoast incest law. If you participate in it you're prosecuted in it. It doesn't say anything about children. Young children, generally speaking, aren't prosecuted for these sorts of things because they lack requisite intent. If she was old enough to act with guilt they were probably suggesting she would have to provide reasonable doubt that she didn't consent, which is true.

Incest victims are often not free to report the crime (for fear of further abuse by parents), nor are they believed if they do (because of COURSE such "respectable" parents would never do that... right?). There was a local girl here in my town who had been repeatedly raped by her step-father for years (ever since her mother died), and when she tried to report it to the police three times, they wouldn't believe her because her dad was such a "respected businessman" in the town. He even made her so sick she would miss school the next day by forcing her to take Plan B pills all the time to cover his crimes. I suggested she use her phone to record him and turn the video over to police. She did so (secretly, of course), and her father was arrested. She is now in a foster home, and we can only hope she's safe. She couldn't be any less safe than she was with her father. My point is, what if she'd gotten pregnant. There wouldn't have been enough evidence to prove she was raped by her dad because no one BELIEVED her when she did report it, and, worse, they chastised her for "lying" about her dad. That said, we here in Kansas voted last year to protect abortion. Sadly, the people of Florida never had the right to vote directly on this issue.

This child has been basically supported by the government monetarily, though the parents have done most of the care. Should the choice have been available? I think so.
