"When a Wyoming judge temporarily blocked an abortion ban last week, she did so on karmically beautiful legal grounds: Republicans hated Obamacare so much that they amended the state constitution more than a decade ago to enshrine the right to make health care decisions.
Earlier this month, lawmakers in Wyoming passed a ban on abortion “at all stages of pregnancy except in cases of rape or incest that’s reported to police, or to save a woman’s life,” as well as a separate ban on medication abortion. They also threw into the text that they don’t believe abortion is health care, per the Associated Press and the Casper Star Tribune."

I grew up in FL, and I did not report my rapist to the police. I did end up pregnant at 16 years old. I decided to terminate as that pregnancy was not a pregnancy to me. It was a torture or death sentence to me mentally and also physically with an abusive partner! Many years later, I’m now a mother to my beautiful and very loved children. My husband is an amazing daddy and gentle husband. I realize that I’m so so fortunate and blessed. ❤ I’m forever thankful I had the option and an OBGYN who saved my life from abuse.
I am so sorry you had to experience all that - at least you had the options you needed. We must fight for that right to be reinstated
I have to fully agree with what you did back then. Sounds like God has been good to you with the life you now have!!! Choice should only be between the woman her doctor and her God. I totally understand your decision and feeling at the time! Was the same for me AND I have bern blessed tremendously by my God. May He continue to bless you and your family!
I can tell you exactly what's happening in Florida. There will be safe abortion hospitals that are small and appear as clinics from the outside. These hospitals will be fully equipped with Medical Professionals who work underground. The rich will still have access to safe abortions. Roe does not change for the well connected.
I'm in favor of aborting rape babies. Who needs that hassle?
The vast majority of abortions are done by women who didn't protect themselves adequately and became inconvenienced by pregnancy. And that's just ratchet. But doctors gets paid. woop woop.
I find it criminal that these lawmakers are bowing to these evangelicals , who claim to know more about pregnancy than a physician.
Yeah but Jeebus, and Hunter's laptop, and Hillary, and green M&Ms...

These evangelicals also should know that the bible also considers male castration a necessity and proper sentence for rape or incest.

Good wholesome family read. I pick that one if asked to do a reading at Thanksgiving. It's saucy! 😆
You're not even being facetious. I'm an evangelical and I 100% think I know more about pregnancy than this physician. For starters, I know that a "6 week fetus" doesn't exist. I know that an embryo at 6 weeks is *16mm* not 5mm. And I know that "it's not a heartbeat it's the stimulation of cardiac cells" is a composition fallacy. All heartbeats are the stimulation of cardiac cells.
Women and doctors should make these decisions. Not idiot politicians.

My Mother at 42 yrs. of age had 4 children ages 8 to 18. Her doctor performed a necessary hysterectomy. Problem was, it was her or the pregnancy. Thank God I got to keep my Mother till she was 87. Abortion laws would have taken my Mother from the 4 of us. My Mother's heart beat was more important than one who was not yet a person.
Yes, exactly!! I'm a healthcare professional myself, and I do not see how it is legal for untrained, uneducated, completely unqualified people are allowed to set life-saving restrictions on what treatments doctors can provide! It's totally barbaric!! I'm glad your mother's life was saved. I also feel this as I have children of my own who NEED ME!!

That is the least “one-size-fits-all” out of all the possibilities.
“One size fits all” would be mandatory abortions. And I’m case you haven’t noticed this yet… nobody is arguing for mandatory abortions.
@@peacefulpossum2438 How? That's a not-so-thorough ipse dixit.
As a clinical counselor-in-training, most of our clients who have been sexually assaulted are not able to complete a rape kit because the procedure is retraumatizing (not the doctors fault), also, most who do complete the kit, find out that the kit is likely expire before the police get to it. All while the victim is waiting to get an abortion. This is just cruel and sick punishment of sexual assualt vicitms.
In Detroit there is literally an abandoned building that has +- 12,000 kits just sitting there. Unprocessed of course. Anybody can go in, take whatever, do whatever. If police actually processed them they would find/stop countless murders from happening.
Rape is bad - but lying about being raped is bad too. Most women are stupid so they get pregnant and claim it was rape because most other people are stupid too and they'll believe them.
Absolutely cruel and further victimizes the woman (or girl) who was raped who doesn't report it. An 11 or 12 year old child, for example, may have just started her period and be irregular, so she may not even realize she's pregnant or even recognize the symptoms. If she's molested by a "trusted" relative, there is a whole dynamic and host of reasons that she may not report it. Fear, shame, guilt, brainwash. Let's not forget that she is a CHILD. Why do we put the responsibility on a little girl instead of where it should be, on the rapist/molester? So we further victimize her and say, "Oh no, you're 7 weeks along so now, at 12 years old, not even fully developed or grown and not emotionally or mentally capable of understanding or dealing with carrying a baby to term....we are going to force you to anyway and make you give birth."
The act of inserting the rape kit is retraumatizing, but the act of inserting the tools to perform the abortion isn’t retraumatizing?
@@ryanhubbard1885 All is traumatizing but most abortions are now done medically with the taking of two pills. To force a rape victim to have to carry her rapist's baby to term is the most traumatizing and most mentally damaging thing in the world.
They don't care about facts.
I was going to say the same thing. Facts don't work on these breeds of republicans.
Exactly!
Their only goal is for women to give birth to full-fledged adults. This ain't like that dream scene from "Junior" (feat. Schwarzenegger, 1995), where Arnold holds a baby with his own face onto it, screaming "MAAAMAAAAA!!!"
When I was 19 weeks pregnant my water broke and I went to the emergency room. I was told in the emergency room that I would go upstairs have surgery Etc because the fetus was not viable. They send me to labor and delivery where I have to deliver a dead baby that was small enough to fit in my hand and I almost bled to death. After this I was really angry that I had to go through that and this was before the overturn of Roe v Wade. At least at that time I didn't have to worry about police coming in and questioning me about what I did to cause my miscarriage and my doctors did not have to worry about being put in jail so I didn't get incredibly sick like so many women are doing now. My daughter is 29 years old and I'm terrified of her getting pregnant because of the things that could go wrong!!
What was the point of the personal story if the message was that nothing bad actually happened to you legally but you were scared that it would? I'm sorry about your miscarriage and I'm assuming you're not still traumatized 30 years later... but what kind of argument is this?? I might as well have said "I was a fetus once and when I found out about abortion I was really scared that I could have been aborted!".
@@elijahobviously1288 it was not 30 years ago it was 7 years ago it was a traumatic experience and will always affect me as it would any woman in the same position. Under the best of circumstances it was still a horrible experience. I thought that was pretty obvious. That I had the right to choose and it still at the end of the day was up to the doctors to do because I was so far along. Now it's being taken out of the hands of doctors and put into politicians which makes me afraid for my daughter and for other women.

Now you have to worry about the doctor being sent to jail for 99 years and women waiting until they can have a D&C, like the woman in Texas who became septic, and then they took care of her. Her uterus was damaged, due to sepsis, and may never have children. Being a man, you have no idea what woman go through.
No one is going to go to jail over a miscarriage. I had a miscarriage and I had to take my babies body parts of what I had to the hospital so they could check me out for any remaining parts of the baby’s body. I named my child Adrian. Mammals are classified into species. A woman who is pregnant has a mammal inside her that is a member of the species Homo sapiens. The only current member of our species is the human being.
Zygote, blastocyst, embryo, fetus, baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, elderly person - these are stages in the life of a human being.

Going to the police and reporting rape or incest is just hopeless and useless. This is just more ways to make women suffer. What a hateful place this country has become. Talk about the Taliban.
Why would it be considered hopeless and useless if you don't report it the person will do it again there's no logic behind your statement. The only thing that makes sense is that your rapist who don't want people reporting you perhaps you're a pedophile and you want your daughter to be able to have as many abortions has she can so that nobody will say anything about you impregnated her right fuckboy.
@@ramonlopez95 Firstly, because reporting a rape means you have to tell the experience, therefore reliving it.
Secondly, most cops are poorly trained when it comes to handling a rape victim (not really their fault, cops just don't have enoigh training hours in general). The line of questions quickly goes to "why were you there ?" "What were you wearing ?" "Are you sure you didn't do anything that could be interpreted as an invitation ?" basically, it very often becomes an interrogation about the victim's behavior and how they supposedly could've avoided the situation, putting all the blame and responsibility of the event on them, which has been proven to be extremely damaging. Most people just don't want to go through that.
There's also the unfortunate fact that a lot of perpetrators are often very close to the victims (either a family member or a manipulating partner). Which make it more likely for the victim to either not be in a state of mind to report the rape, or being pressured to sweep things under the rug.
And even if they did, then there's all the juridic parade that victims are rarely in a state to handle, so they naturally try to avoid it.
And even if they go through it, there's a unfortunately pretty decent chance it will lead to nothing, or next to it. So why would they bother ?
I understand the logic behind the "the rapist will continue if they're not reported", but it's just a perspective too pragmatical that neglects how traumatizing the whole experience is, particularly for a person who already has been recently traumatized by the rape itself. The current structure simply does not allow victims to feel safe in the way their case will be handled if they report the rape, so they don't.

It's so sad that cats & dogs have more reproductive rights than women.
I know women in their 20s and 30s who requested a tubal ligation. Their doctors refused to do it telling them they "are too young".
At age 18 the men & women of this country can enlist in the military & risk their lives in combat, but the women "are too young" to get a tubal ligation. Seriously??? This is why there are so many, many people on welfare with children they didn't want to give birth to. Women are forced to be mothers. It's sickening that the men of our country think they have the right to control women's reproductive rights!!😢
By the time a woman realizes she is pregnant she has already reproduced - so no one is infringing on that right to reproduce. What the law should be telling everyone is BE RESPONSIBLE for your offspring (which obviously would include not taking their lives). it's a shame we even need laws to tell people not to take the lives of defenseless human beings.
@@mathildeyoung1823 If you're going to be splitting hairs about the definition of reproduction vs reproductive rights, then you're correct about "reproduction." However, reproductive rights are inclusive of you having autonomy of your reproductive organs, which are used to hold and birth a child. Should a person not be allowed to determine what they want and don't want in their reproductive parts after a zygote ( not a human being) has been formed? And if you are going to argue that cells that are unable to survive on their own outside of a human being are considered a living thing, then you had best pick up every piece of skin you find on the ground and treat it dearly.
@@franktan3585 A skin cell is not a human being. A human zygote IS a human being. They are a mammal. Mammals are members of species. What other species would an unborn child be a member of if not the human species? Perhaps this will help you understand:
“Human embryos, whether they are formed by fertilization (natural or in vitro) or by successful somatic-cell nuclear transfer (SCNT - i.e., cloning), do have the internal resources and active disposition to develop themselves to the mature stage of a human organism, requiring only a suitable environment and nutrition. In fact, scientists distinguish embryos from other cells or clusters of cells precisely by their self-directed, integral functioning - their organismal behavior. Thus, human embryos are what the embryology textbooks say they are, namely, human organisms - living individuals of the human species - at the earliest developmental stage.” - Dr. Robert George
A person absolutely should not be able to k!ll a defenseless human being to make their life easier. There isn't a full right to autonomy as post viability abortion restrictions and waiting period laws prove. Your "logic" is like saying child abuse needs to be legal because how dare the law "control" someone's hands (fists). You see, child abuse laws are NOT about controlling anyones body - neither are abortion restrictions. BOTH are a bout protecting defenseless human beings.
Yeah you're not meant to fk up your reproductive organs, it will cause health problems in the future so no, don't get your tubes tied.
Doctors are trying to be more careful about cutting out entire organs these days. And tubal ligations can fail or reverse themselves if you get it done too young, which also increases the risk of ectopic pregnancy if you're still having sex. If you just want birth control, a bilateral salpingectomy is much safer. And since the permanence of the procedures is often a roadblock, this one has a workaround where you can only get pregnant if you use IVF (or if there's a freak accident and the egg somehow makes it across the gap, but that's only happened a grand total of three times), so there's less pushback.
I don’t think most Republican legislators understand that pregnancy is counted from the first day of the woman’s last pregnancy, which could be three weeks before ovulation/conception. So a “six week old fetus” is actually three weeks. And since most women don’t know they’re pregnant until they miss their period, they wouldn’t know until they’re at least five weeks.

Imagine the oblicatory pregnancy tests at state borders. Not at all a privacy problem. Not. At. All. 🙄
I know this is an older post. But, I wanted to add my experience to further highlight the grotesque lack of knowledge most boys, men and even male OB/GYN doctors have regarding dangerous pregnancies. 38 years ago I became very ill. I was reeling with pain and at risk of passing out and possibly dying because my head struck a curb, sharp table or I fainted in the tub. I was using barrier contraceptives which worked very well for years and felt much better than when I was dosing myself with the heavy-duty oral contraceptives. At first, my OB/GYN told me I kidney stones, pancreatitis and a possible ovarian cyst." Despite taking antibiotics and pain medication, I grew worse. Finally, the OB/GYN ordered a pregnancy test and an ultrasound. I had a tubal pregnancy. Instead of rushing me to surgery, the doctor suggested I do tests over the course of 4-5 days to see if the hormones associated with pregnancy increased or decreased. My dad came into town during this ordeal to visit me. He did not know I was so ill. He desperately wanted me to have children. I did not want children. He asked if the embryo could be transplanted into my uterus. I don't know if such a surgery was available then -or now. I said no. I was told the embryo was no longer viable, was dying, and would be absorbed by my body. (This is the super advice I received from my doctor. Later cysts developed within my fallopian tube and outside the tube but attached to it. I had a procedure that supposedly fixed that. It did not work. Many years later there were complications from the failure of that surgery which nearly killed me.) If I were young enough today to have developed a tubal pregnancy in a state where abortion is severely limited or banned, I could find myself facing a serious legal inquiry and the often deadly complications because of abortion restriction, Doctors would be afraid to terminate the pregnancy. If anyone I knew disagreed with fact that I sought medical intervention for a dangerous pregnancy that could have ruptured my fallopian tube, they could report me. I could be prosecuted. (If found guilty of terminating my pregnancy several vindictive male legislators suggested the death penalty.) If someone helped me get services in another state they could be prosecuted. Overwhelmingly, these laws restricting and/or criminalizing abortion regardless of the circumstances are ushered into law at the behest of men. Men who have little to no knowledge of the risks posed by pregnancy. Men who have no sympathy for very young girls who are victims of incest (statutory rape) or victims of a violent sexual attack. Men who have determined that their religious beliefs negate the rights and needs of a suffering female. Unless a girl or woman wishes to consult a man she trusts, men should have ZERO input about the reproductive decisions of women and girls. The last outrage saved for pregnant women, single mothers or women whose spouses are not financially stable, is that once that baby is born the mother is likely to require social services to adequately care for herself and her child. Health care, daycare, food stamps and other benefits for poor families are currently inadequate.. Benefits that the uber-conservatives want to limit. They want to submit women and children to draconian requirements for the basic necessities of life. They care more about forcing females to submit or suffer privation than about cherishing the children thy cared so much about while it was in the womb. Like sexual assault, these laws are about power. These laws are about misogyny and resentment that women are gaining influence and shedding the burden of chattel. If men are determined to control the most intimate decision that a woman can make, I suggest that they be required to study every aspect of pregnancy, gain hands-on knowledge by working, for free in hospitals and clinics, and spend months living under the same conditions they want to subject poor families to. By the end of three to five years they may have acquired enough experience to avoid sounding like total cretins when they attempt to discuss reproductive rights
It's abortion that is about discrimination against the youngest of human beings.
Just like there are exceptions on when it's OK to kill someone (e.g. if they are about to kill you then its OK to kill them but you cannot go around killing someone to make your life easier) there are exceptions in abortion restrictions saying abortion is allowed if the woman's life is threatened from her pregnancy but obviously shouldn't be allowed for excuses like money or "not the right time for a child".... doctors are (or should be) smart enough to know when abortion is the only way to save the life of a pregnant woman or is early delivery is needed to save her life. If they don't they need to lose their license or they are using women to try to get abortion to be legal for any lame reason a woman wants (maybe they make $$$ on the side at the local abortuary, who knows).

Incest victims are often not free to report the crime (for fear of further abuse by parents), nor are they believed if they do (because of COURSE such "respectable" parents would never do that... right?). There was a local girl here in my town who had been repeatedly raped by her step-father for years (ever since her mother died), and when she tried to report it to the police three times, they wouldn't believe her because her dad was such a "respected businessman" in the town. He even made her so sick she would miss school the next day by forcing her to take Plan B pills all the time to cover his crimes. I suggested she use her phone to record him and turn the video over to police. She did so (secretly, of course), and her father was arrested. She is now in a foster home, and we can only hope she's safe. She couldn't be any less safe than she was with her father. My point is, what if she'd gotten pregnant. There wouldn't have been enough evidence to prove she was raped by her dad because no one BELIEVED her when she did report it, and, worse, they chastised her for "lying" about her dad. That said, we here in Kansas voted last year to protect abortion. Sadly, the people of Florida never had the right to vote directly on this issue.
Florida & many states are making a concerted effort to NOT allow public referendums that will protect abortion access onto ballots.
Bodily autonomy is the issue. To demand a woman let someone else occupy her body against her will, because they can't survive without it-that is a slippery slope. Will we compel a man to donate a kidney because his child will die without it? How about donating blood? We don't even harvest organs from corpses without consent! So, do we really intend fewer rights than that for living, breathing women?!
IF Bodily autonomy were a full human right (it's not as other laws such as post viability abortion restrictions show) then abortion would STILL need to be illegal as the unborn child is a HUMAN BEING deserving of that right as well. The solution would be to COEXIST as abortion would now be violating 2 human rights for the unborn child.
@Mathilde Young a fetus is not a human being just as a fertilized egg is not a chicken
@@SupaKen74 False equivalency. "chicken" is the name given to the mature member of a chicken species. i.e. "embryo", "chick" and "chicken" are stages in the life of a chicken species. Zygote, blastocyst, embryo, fetus, baby, toddler, child, teenager, adult, elderly person are stages in the life of a member of the human species (i.e. a human being).
Do you have bodily autonomy if someone can kill you without your expressed consent?
@@SupaKen74a human fetus is a member of Homo sapiens. A fertilized chicken egg is a member of Gallus gallus domesticus.
Back in the late 70s,when I was about 8 or 9 years old,I once asked my mom "what's an abortion"? She said something like "it's when a woman decides not to have her baby, the baby is about the size of a quarter, and the baby goes through a tube"..I thought," uh,well ok". She didn't show me a bunch of gross looking pictures,or say abortion blah blah blah..looking back in hindsight,I guess she let me make up my own mind, and she didn't try to sway my opinion on the issue..for many years afterwards,I didn't know enough about abortion to have an opinion on the subject..I then researched the subject, listened to both sides, and formed my own opinion..I've been pro choice since about 1992
This is so sad for those women. This is going backward.
I'm french and you kinda help our country to understand the necessity to write in our Constitution, loud and clear that the right to abort should be protected.
Talk about a nanny state. Women now need permission slips to access their own healthcare 🤯
So, since politicians know more about human physiology then doctors we should stop suing doctors for malpractice and start suing politicians instead since I'm sure many people will suffer and die from this ignorance. Those who create these laws should be held responsible for the damage they do.
The only people that should be allowed to run for office should be required to have a long career in a profession such as medicine. It is completely illogical to have anyone be a "career politician". Politicians should be well-learned and well-respected members of their communities who have distinguished themselves already through a life of service to a trade or community.
I agree completely. I keep say that they should even have basic university classes in public health. The societal implications of even small decisions are generally well documented and can be predicted. Tbh it doesn’t seem like it would matter anyway because the health and happiness of the general public is obviously not what is most important to them.
That's the way it was SUPPOSED to be.

Are they going to have pregnancy testing stations for anyone crossing the state border with an adult and a minor in the car? And how do they confirm what they do out of state? Guilty until proven innocent? That doesn’t even have to get to the supreme court to determine it’s unconstitutional
If they can get away with it, it will happen. Did you ever notice how if you’re a women of reproductive age they always ask or test for pregnancy? When that information falls into the wrong hands, it will be used against women and girls. Remember when they wouldn’t add women to the constitution and kept it as all men? There is a reason for that. Because historically and as it is written now, women are guaranteed majority of constitutional rights.
All the adjacent states have similar bans for miles. They don't have to prevent anything. A lot of people traveled to Florida to get abortions.
This woman is a Godsend. Bless her.
Irony
@@blank1933 How is it ironic? God supports abortions. Gave instructions on how to do it in Numbers 5:11-31.
Remember how the extreme right used to rail on and on about Sharia Law? How it hurt women? How it was about human rights infringement? Hmm. As a woman, as a mother, as a grandmother, I can’t imagine how this is much different from what they accuse Sharia Law of being. As a woman who had to have an abortion because the fetus I carried was unviable, as someone who was hemorrhaging in my doctor’s office while waiting to be treated, as someone who did not bleed out because my doctor wasn’t facing prison so he could save my life, I am incensed that this is happening. Americans are living in Gilead, it is manifesting before our eyes.
Tired of old men making stupid laws.

For all the adoption they claim will happen. The moment you ask them if they have or would adopt, they go quiet.
@Nickelpickel Proponents have also conveniently forgotten about all the corruption found in the adoption industry. Emphasis on: industry.... which rakes in $$millions from desperate parents and uses helpless babies. Forced adoption is NO solution for the abortion debate.
Yup exactly
@@eh3477 True, I agree 100 and 10%.
Someone I know lives in Idaho. Had to carry to term despite negative medical anomalies pertaining to the pregnancy shown by the ultrasound. Child was born, but the umbilical cord had been wrapped around the neck. They both had to be hospitalized. Infant was in ICU for weeks with severe organ damage and nearly died. Mother was not in good shape either. Huge hospital bill. Child has been in a wheelchair, is unable to speak and has severe motor impediments. Can't do anything on their own. Child's entire life, which has been for about 20+ years now and they don't expect them to live that much longer. This child has been basically supported by the government monetarily, though the parents have done most of the care. Should the choice have been available? I think so. The parents spend much of their time caring for the special needs child. This means they have FAR less time to spend/care for their other younger children. QUALITY of life. Yes, we all love the child. But what if the child had died sooner.
@Luca Absolutely! Choice being the key word.

It doesn't condemn anybody to anything. Adoption is a thing. Also, not letting you do something is not forcing you to do something else. Does "don't rape" force you to be an incel? Does "don't steal" force you to be poor? There are other ways of achieving what you want: try not getting sperm in your vagina.
@@elijahobviously1288 open your eyes . Take some time and look at some statistics. Technically your right it doesn’t actually force them into poverty . They don't care about the truth
The cruelty and indifference to suffering of Americans toward their fellows is staggering. No abortion, unregulated guns everywhere, no proper social safetynet and no proper public health system, to name a few examples.
Reckon I'll just stay put here in Australia.
I wish that was true. America still have some of the most progressive abortion laws in the developed world. There are over 20,000 gun regulations, and America spends more on its social safetynet than the entire GDP of the United Kingdom.
Part of the problem is that people derive their sense of morality from different places. Some see morals as coming from what is best for the people of their society, while others care about morals asserted by an authority figure, like their religious community. The latter doesn't care about stats about the effects of various types of laws, nor about science, only about upholding a set of rules that they unquestioningly follow.
Very well spoken
But of course only the rules that they happen to like or have been "taught" (i.e. been indoctrinated with). There aren't all that many people fighting tooth and nail to close down any restaurant offering shellfish...

Most abortions have nothing to do with the health reasons. Most are done for excuses of convenience like money or it simply not being the right time for a child. If those are horrible excuses to take the life of an unwanted newborn or toddler (they are!) they are horrible excuses to take the life of an unborn child.
Don't care about religion. Science (and common sense) tells me the life of a new human being starts at fertilization. Common sense tells me that defenseless human beings need to be protected, not k!lled.
