Woman Left Traumatized After Lawyer Overrides Doctor’s Recommended Treatment

- A hospital lawyer from New Orleans told a doctor that she was no longer allowed to perform D&E procedures on pregnant women with nonviable fetuses due to the state's abortion trigger laws. Dr. Valerie Willams shared her personal experience of being refused to administer a D&E on a 16-weeks pregnant woman, who already knew her fetus was not viable, due to Louisiana’s trigger laws going into effect, thus forcing the woman to go into labor and deliver the dead fetus, losing almost a liter of blood and being traumatized in the process. Cenk Uygur and Francesca Fiorentini discuss on The Young Turks. Watch LIVE weekdays 6-8 pm ET. ruclips.net/user/theyoungturkslive

"Here's the account from a New Orleans doctor, who was told by her hospital's lawyer she couldn't perform a D&E on a 16-weeks-pregnant woman whose water broke. Instead, she went through a "painful, hours-long labor to deliver a nonviable fetus, despite her wishes”"

DOCTORS SHOULD NOT HAVE TO CHOOSE BETWEEN SAVING A LIFE AND GOING TO PRISON!!!!
Keep speaking up. Never let politicians forget who their boss is.
You're right, they shouldn't try to murder someone.
Unless that's the plan. Maybe to get more physician trained prison "doc" prisoners who are paid prison wages and eat off the State. Helps prison industrial complex, medical insurance lobby, and whatever else they can squeeze a population being continually to be resupplied by a continually more hypocrital-theofascistic, yet ultimately capitalistic minority ran by government (sorry for any misspellings and grammar incoherencies, and also my extreme use of hyperbole, English is not my primary language).

How can any self-respecting woman can back the Republicans is beyond me.
The problem is women who vote Republican clearly have no self-respect. What’s worse is they clearly have no respect or empathy for anyone else.
Because many of them are not. Self respecting that is. The biggest example is Amy Coney Barret in the Supreme Court. She is happily part of a cult that treat women as property. She was forced to marry her husband, she had to be “allowed” to go to college and get a job. She can’t even go to church with anyone of the opposite sex (they have church for the men and prayer group for the women). She truly believes women aren’t equal to men and wants to make that the norm. While other republican women aren’t that fanatical, many do share that mindset.
Their husbands have beaten any self respect out of them....
religious zealots do vote them ...
Probably older women who rest secure in the knowledge they will not be adversely affected.
Maybe the lawyers should be charged with practicing medicine without a license when they do this and sued if the patient dies.
It is possible they could face civil suits.
The lawyers don't make the laws. They're there to explain and advise on laws written by the a-hole politicians. Arresting them wouldn't make any sense.
@Tony D. I wasn't serious, dude. Just pointing out that attorneys are not qualified to make life-or-death medical judgments, which is obvious to everyone but these attorneys.

As a lawyer, I refuse. This is horrific. We use doctors as expert witnesses in trial for a reason-BECAUSE WE ARE NOT DOCTORS.
Yes about time. they send you to a person in practice and you don't know they are practitioners, not Doctors.

To be fair, republicans weren’t calling them heroes. If anything, the pandemic showed how little respect they have for people in medicine.
As an ER physician, I agree with your plea to doctors to “just do it”. And that was my plan up until it became a criminal offense. In Texas, it can be literally a life sentence and we have the death penalty here. Now I just don’t know if I’ll have the courage to literally give up my life for my patient. I just pray everyday I won’t have to find out if I’m a coward or a martyr
As a woman, I have one question. Why is there so little value for me and my life ?
Just wait until it happens to one of their loved ones, they will make sure she receives the treatment she needs. These people are hypocrites.
So many republicans have already gotten their wives, daughters, or mistresses abortions.

Heartbreaking. I had a spontaneous miscarriage between the birth of my two babies. I was devastated and in a lot of pain. A DNC was the next procedure that I needed to prevent sepsis. Without it I could have lost my life and/or the ability to have another baby. I did what I had to do to preserve my life and have the opportunity to create my existing family. I mourned the life of the fetus I could not carry to term. But the life saving procedure after that loss made it possible for me to live and have a healthy pregnancy afterwards. I hate that make lawmakers get to decide when and where my rights exist. When they experience a monthly period or a pregnancy or miscarriage, I may give them a say…
Yes, ma'am.
I developed an infection that required a D and C, and couLD have died without it,after an incomplete miscarriage and the thought of these men being in control of womens healthcare is tragic. They are clueless. These laws are going to kill women.
Absolutely, lawmakers have no business getting between a patient and their healthcare provider.
I was with you until your last sentence. Even then they don't deserve a say! And remember, the witch that trump installed in the Supreme Court, and every Republican woman in Congress says we should've never had bodily autonomy.
The republicans put not only the life of women in danger but their entire family at stake. If you died the baby would also have died and your husband would be caring for your children alone. Having only one income in a household that probably had two employed would drop to one income. Bills and prior debts and responsibilities would go unpaid trying to live on one salary. A entire family would have suffered. Where is the " sanctity of life" these people talk about? For the huge majority of women abortion is a very painful decision to make. No one needs to make that worse for them Because a few mis use abortion the 98 percent of women are made to suffer with no real help out there except false promises of help from republicans. VOTE BLUE AND BRING BACK CHOICE IN ABORTION AND OTHER LOST FREEDOMS.

Do you have to save one patient if it means losing your license or do you have a duty to protect your license so you can help many more future patients? Yeah this was just hypothetical in college now it's reality. I am glad I ended up not going into medicine. I feel so bad for doctors who are trying to practice medicine ethically now. All because of a bunch of supreme court justices who perjured themselves.
As a member of a family of six children, I watched and was horrified as my mother nearly died from an ectopic pregnancy. Thank God there were laws at that time that allowed aid to the body's natural abortion, as well as reparation of the damage caused by the ectopic pregnancy. Had she not had the availability to have this treatment, she would have died, as it was she came very close to dying.
I have had 3 miscarriages, 2 of them were at 16 weeks. The last one was 8 years ago... and this is the process they made me go through. I also hemorrhaged with the first one and almost died. I felt lucky that they were ready with the last one and did a D&C as soon as I started hemorrhaging BUT now I'm really confused why they didn't offer to just do the damn thing right away instead of making me labor through all that pain. Not to mention, I didn't go into "labor" right away so I was told to go home and sit there for 3 days with my dead baby inside of me. That trauma will last my whole life. I ended up getting my tubes tied after I finally had a successful pregnancy, just to avoid ever going through that again. "Horrific" doesn't even describe it. My heart breaks for that woman💔

No they're not. They took an OATH TO DO NO HARM.. DAMN IT THEN DO THAT.🤷♀️
Horrifying. They are pro death, pro rape, and pro incest. 💯
I agree that the doctors must do these life saving surgeries!
I am so very fortunate to live in Canada. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy on Christmas Day. There was no question that I needed immediate life saving surgery. I was bleeding internally and the options were surgery or death. It wasn’t even a question in my mind, my husbands mind, my parents mind and thank goodness the doctors mind. I am safe and alive and grateful.

our mother's last pregnancy turned out to be what was back then called an anencephalic monster, due to nutritional lacks not then understood. It was an emotional torture to carry it to term under the pre Roe-rules, a torture now again facing other families, FAMILIES, not just the womb-bearer.
I know if a man had to have the baby. Roe v Wade would never have been reversed. It would be a permanent thing.

Why isn't the AMA standing up for their physicians??? Where is the support and pushback?
Only in America. Lawyers making medical decisions - Wow !!!
Politicians making medical decisions. SCOTUS making medical decisions. Lawyers having to tell Drs they can't do their best for their patients anymore without going to jail for a long time.
Pro-life indeed. 🤬🤬🤬
It's time for people affected by these laws to sue their state governments. They are having their lives and health impacted by this; it's not acceptable.
That is disgusting, whyshouldthe Doctor or the Lady be put through that.
I wish everyone was this up in arms about the ridiculous way chronic pain patients are treated. I hate to compare two topics, but they both hurt people and keep doctors from actually helping their patients.
I had the Dr and nurse both tell me "we are too scared of what DA Soares will do to us if we treat you"
Recent spinal fusion that went bad and severe nerve damage. The constant severe pain created a neuro disorder that causes constant vomiting when in an episode. Fug all lawyer scum
@@stonedsasquatch Being a chronic pain patient right now is so hard. I'm so sorry.
My daughter received a 6" scar on her temporal lobe area which causes her to wear her hair a certain way to cover it.
I was so happy to have a healthy daughter I didn't even consider a lawsuit that I know I would have won. This Dr. Was a student at the time and was in a wheelchair..Because of the Drs disability she was unable to work on my wife during birth because the beds in the delivery are set higher than normal making it very difficult for the Dr to deliver the baby. This Dr scraped the head of my yet to be born daughter while inserting the fetal monitor in my wife. We know this for certain for 2 reasons 1) the baby literally jumped in my wife's stomach when monitor was being inserted.
2) when my beautiful daughter was born her head wound was a fresh laceration and bleeding from wound which needed treatment!
Moral of story, don't sue those who do their best to help.
States that continue to enforce this are going to lose compitant doctors that wont tolerate watching their patients suffer.
Yeah they're going to lose doctors and they're also going to lose anyone who can afford to get out of their shit whole states. Not only will Healthcare be more expensive but basically anything that can be made portable we'll leave and these states economies will turn into empty Hollow shells
Competence is the enemy of conservatism. The people in those states that vote for these monsters won't care. They'll just replace medicine with prayer and slowly die.
yep. more "unintended" consequences of the republican's anti-science. watch these doctors leave these red states. their healthcare was bad enough to begin with.
Is there any way that the law makers and Supreme Court judges be sued or held responsible for women’s deaths? Obviously they are responsible!
I assume, it has to go to the supreme court where it just dies.

Most of the gun nuts in the US may be Republican but guaranteed there are enough women besides that who are both armed, politically or personally sensitive to this issue and disturbed enough to act.
In a country of 330+ million people statistically there will be plenty who fit that description - if I were those SCOTUS judges I would be growing eyes in the back of my head and hiring private security to watch my every move.

Single men don't want unplanned children foisted on them others don't want to lose a cherished partner due to pregnancy complications that are easily treated, they too have a dog in this fight.
They would just put it on the doctors by saying they had a duty to protect the life of and save the mothers. For Louisiana I would assume this. For those states that don't even accept life saving exceptions, a lot of women will have to die before maybe an exemption will be possible.
Litterally texas is seeing because biden told then they have to save the life of the woman.

THIS IS UNCONSCIONABLE!! There is NO excuse for suçh intrusion imto private medical health issues.
There's another risk I'm thinking of, for doctors or other medical professionals : if they even perceive that they have a chance to lose their licenses as healthcare providers, they are in a sense forced to oppose the predicament of the patient in front of them and that of future patients they could not treat, in the event of them not having a license to so anymore... Truly horrifying and disgusting 😢

This is absolutely sickening. Funny I remember when Obama care was criticized saying how people would be at risk but now because of the overturning of Roe vs Wade peoples lives are in danger.
The GOP is the death panel.
The pro life party repeatedly support actions that only result in death of more people. Hell, their actions on covid sure seemed like something only designed to ensure as many people die as possible. 2022 America is living in the upside down and backwards world apparently

Fk yes
But the hospitals will just sack them and they will have to cover their own legal bills. They should not gave to risk everything.
Regardless of Roe versus Wade being overturn how are we not arguing that these new anti-abortion laws are still unconstitutional because they’re religiously motivated. Considering the first amendment clearly states we have separation of church and state.
Well, church state seperation also is out of the window.
Just check out what Lauren Hobert has to say on the matter. These effin people, man. So repulsive.
Unconstitutional because of the religious motivation may be difficult to "show" if the wording was careful not to call a deity up in the law itself...
We all know what the politicians say about it and they will invoke the Christian God left right and center about it...
Still should be unconstitutional per the 9th amendment which is there to protect rights that weren't explicitly enumerated.
Ummm, because Christian Nationalist have taken over the supreme court...
Totally agree with you, they are forcing their religion on other people, I thought in the USA that you were free to practice YOUR OWN Religion.
I remember praying for women in Ireland when this was happening to them and thinking how lucky we were. 😢
A Dr takes an oath to
"DO NO HARM".They are being forced to do harm. If I was a Dr I would sue the government.
If the law is legal, they can't sue.
No they don't
They're basically forcing doctors to break their oaths
"Thou shalt not lie." Cherry pick the sin of lying to be illegal, the Supreme Court Justices who lied under oath will be arrested and charged.
So lawyers are also doctors now? The lawyer should be sued.
This is some dystopian shit if I've ever seen it. This WILL lead to people choosing not to have children who otherwise would, because of the risk of being left to die in the event of a complication.

A patient could die from an ectopic pregnancy😡 This is crazy and unintelligent😱
This is horrible and sad. This new laws puts doctors in a predicament.
I had heart problems during my 3rd pregnancy. The doctor insisted that I have my tubes tied because it was pregnancy related and would be worse most likely in another pregnancy. This doctor specialized in heart problems during pregnancy. I had 3 kids to raise. I wanted another but felt it was my responsibility to actually stay alive to raise them. If I had accidentally gotten pregnant after my 3rd child, it would have killed me under these rules. I am so very scared that maybe my daughter will get pregnant and have to die because of these stupid people. Heck, legislators in my state actually discussed forcing mandatory reimplantation of ectopic pregnancies. A thing that cannot actually be done. Doctors will leave maternal child medicine and gynecology in droves. Emergency medicine too. And then more people will die and more babies will die and pretty much more of everyone will die. At least in poor populations and rural areas. There just won't be enough doctors to begin to treat all of the needed patients.
It demonstrates just how far removed some legislators are from the real world.
@@persebra that is crazy
@@persebra I remember reading about this in Ohio. Doctors had to inform the politicians, on two different occasions, that the procedure was medically impossible. The politician who sponsored the bill even admitted that he hadn't researched ectopic pregnancies or even consulted with doctors before proposing it.
