Sneaker of The Gods: A History of Nike Air Huarache

- The History of the Nike Air Huarache Spans more than two decades! Despite it's weirdness the Nike Air Huarache continues to make Nike's best selling list every quarter. Why is that? What makes the Huarache such a great shoe? How did this strange sneaker design become so popular in mainstream culture? When Tinker Hatfield showed the original sketch for the Huarache to Sandy Bodecker, Sandy declared it "The Sneaker of the Gods". If Zues were around today, he'd probably be rocking a pair of Nike Huaraches.

one of the most comfortable shoes ever
i’ve had nmd r2 and huaraches but the foam on the nmds are just so comfy
Agreed 💯

Hands down!!!
Still one of the best shoe purchases I've ever made. All black Air Huaraches for 70 bucks. Bought them to work in, since they were all black. Pretty soon they became my everyday shoe. It's light, comfortable, and never goes out of style. Now I'm practically a shoe fanatic because of that pair.
I had a pair. It was the most comfortable, and lightest pair of shoes I ever wore. It had this direct feel of like running barefoot.
Definitely one of the finest shoes ever!! The lightest pair i ever had were the Penny Hardaway’s!! So comfortable so light!
Thank goodness ive been really curious about the history of air huaraches. I swear i never saw these growing up
cody codytin fr
I think before the re releases I only saw like 1 or 2 huaraches around? I always rocked the huarache before it became trendy (I had them in 2015 but no one had em until a year later and everyone decides to rock em) and suddenly everyone started wearing. Same thing with the air force 1 in 2016. I was buying these since they were on the clearance racks for 40 quid for an all white pair. Everyone told me they were shit. 2 years later and now everyone's rocking then 🤷🏾♂️guess I'm always ahead in trends
Jam - CSGO and GD you want a cookie ?
@@jamrah8713 everyone in nyc had huaraches and a1’s in the early 2000’s. You’re not trendy lol
@@jamrah8713 that's crazy same here I had the triple black in 2015 and Noone had em till a year later ppl were going crazy for them again. Only hurrache I heard of back un the day was in grade school in early 2000s mid top ones with the strap that were also hot at the time.

Rat Bag We won’t stop man, thank you so much for taking the time to consume the videos man 🙏🙏
I’m 35 and my dad introduced me to the Huarache in HS in like 1999. He had a pair and bought me a navy and baby blue pair. I was the first person at my HS with some and when I wore them everyone wanted some lol! I actually currently own an all red pair (Red Octobers) and all white! Classic! I have narrow feet and Huaraches work for me!
That product manager who signed the order to build 5 thousand pairs for the NY marathon was a real one, the MVP. That dude BELIEVED in Tinker Hatfield's design. When you have people believing in you like the way that dude believed in Hatfield, you are unstoppable.
People like that will always show up out of nowhere in the moment at your lowest and give you the right motivation you need to push through! I always love hearing Tinker's success stories!
I played in the Huarache Air Flights back in 1992. I have a photo of me wearing them back in the day. Dope shoes and I picked up the retros!
This vids are the coolest!!!
Thanks for covering this really important part of the sneaker culture that “not so many people” really know!
I mean, what i find more interesting about a pair of kicks isn’t the hype. It’s the storytelling, the way design gives you hints to the ages and the culture and the way you empathize with the stories they tell.
I would LOVE to see some Nike Tailwind, Nike Daybreak, Nike Elite or some Retro Running like those.
Greetings from Mexico City!
Daniel Bennetts What’s up Daniel! Thanks for the kind words man. I definitely plan on doing a tailwind episode someday. It’s all about the story telling!
Just copped the Miami colorway Huaraches, love this shoe. Would love a history of the Nike Blazer or Puma Clyde/Suede!
Fred Funkledunk Going to do a video on the entire history of Pumas soon!

@@QuickQuips Just came back from watching it, good vid
This is such a good channel. Great research and animations, Nacho!
VYB Thank you man! Appreciate you watching 🙏🙏
The main reason this is the best sneaker RUclips channel for me is the lenght od the video. No more then 7 min and you get everything! Others would bore you for 10-15 mins. Keep it up!
Just found your channel dude, never had knowledge of trainers so appreciate the efforts made towards producing this great content.
I always thought the Air Jordan 7s were very Hurache inspired. They had nice inner liner that you slid your foot into. It wasn't neoprene but a similar flexible, form-fitting material. Very comfortable and lightweight.
Yep and the 8’s and 9’s has the neoprene inner booty too
Basically since they have the neoprene bootie, tinker is the creator of the AJ 7 so that explains that and in my opinion they are the most comfortable Jordan ever.
Excellent video man, this is really well made. I love Huarache's, I'm on my fourth pair as of right now. They're so good.
Alex Mathew Mendoza Thanks for watching Alex! Really appreciate the kind words man. Hell yeah man! Fourth pair and still as good 😎
Keep up the good work fam! Love these type of videos that show the history of brands and sneakers.
George Cavalevu Thanks George! These are super fun to make. More on the way!! 💪
Dude, this is by far the coolest video about the huaraches, thanks for the info, highly appreciated!
I remember when the. Air Huarache came out. It was really good running shoes. I cannot believe how popular it is now. It’s way more popular now than ever.
literally never see them
@@kenetzz6975 saw em on a hypebeast in the mid 2010s. I’m diggin’ these lately. Dope colorways have dropped.
Definitely 1 of my favorite & most comfortable sneakers in my collection. Been lovin the Huarache since '91. Dope vid bruh.
Never like jordans a few nikes botas n echo en. Michoacan Guaraches.

I just ordered the Nike Air Huarache City in Bleached Aqua/Black-racer Pink colorway and I'm so excited 😇 decided to RUclips the shoe and came across this informative video... thank u for making this or else I doubt I would've been schooled on the history of this specific huarache design. 🙏
I had the purple/black/white huaraches flights in the 90s. Definitely the most comfortable Nike. Since there rerelease a few years ago I now own 14 different pairs of colours. Love my huaraches.
Sam Ab Dayum! 14 pairs haha You owner the OG purple punch color way 🔥
Nike Huaraches were my first pair of shoes turned me into a sneaker-head and become addicted to Nikes.
Jose Reyna dope shoe to get started with 👍
I turned into Nike Sneakerhead with AF1. Then got obsessed with sb dunk lows, then air max 90s, but no huarache. I bought my first huarache 2 days ago (tan stussy) which is still being shipped. I am afraid i will be hooked on huaraches and will spend even more money now 😩
@@NachoAverageFinds for me it was the huarache ultra 😍
just wanted to say - i love your vids and sneakers ..
i’ve learnt so much from these so, thank you
archiefordee glad you could learn something from it 😎😎💪
These videos are very interesting and high quality! Keep up these videos my guy 👍🏽🙌🏽
Luke Parkour Thanks Luke! Appreciate it! Will keep making more of these
I remember the 1st time I saw the Huarache Flights John Starks and others had em on in the ‘92 dunk contest. I remember thinking “what the hell are those?” The day I bought the Jordan 7’s at launch I tried em on and was amazed how light and comfortable they were and how similar they were to the huaraches. Later Adidas tried to copy with their bb shoes with removable bootie/sock liner that came in different colors.
B Simpson Adidas stood no chance 😂 I can only imagine what a 92 dunk contest was like! That’s awesome that you was there 🔥
I love Huaraches! Got a few pair, wore my Nike i.d huaraches today red, black and green like the Gucci colors..... so comfortable, they was ahead of their time... time has finally caught up to them.... huaraches and the puma rsx are my most comfortable kixs......
I love that Gucci color way idea! I'm sure they look dope AF! Thanks for watching mang

Nice vid! I hope to get a pair tomorrow!
Great vid Nacho. Keep it up.
I love the huarache. My wife bought me a pair of black and white huarache drif for my birthday and I think it’s the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.
It's a gateway shoe into the world of collecting haha They are super comfortable
I guess this shoe really does live up to it's slogan. Because according to the Gods, it is important to be as light on your feet as possible. I can't wait to cop me a pair!
i’m a big fan of you nacho, you and the dime drop of my favorite youtube channels.
ツBatman I’ll have to check the dime drop out! Thanks for being an awesome fan my dude 👊
Great Vids bro!!!!! Thanks

I had them originally way back when. The classic purple/black ones. I just got a new pair. So comfortable, like slippers. Better than slippers. Also, even though they’ve been around 30 years, they somehow still seem futuristic. Quality stuff.

Lets keep this shit 💯, if it wasn't for the "hood" those sneakers would've never became popular!!!
MADNEW YORKER that’s True sneaker culture started in the hood
Thats the story for most of Nike's shoes
You right!! The Cortez, AF1, Huarache, Air Max, Jordan's, Air Flight, Air Trainers
Kush Man lmao how’s that a racist statement?

The first Huarache I got were the Blue/green joints, the back strap popped off one side in 10 mins flat.

Hey nacho just curious do the Jordan 7s and Jordan 8s have or use Huarache technology?
Andrew Sola they use the neoprene tech forsure
just got my first pair this year, i like the shoe but i think the neoprene sock hugs my foot too tightly and cuts off circulation to my toes
mandy satan I size up so that doesn’t happen
They run SO SMALL. Size up 1 fully
