Do you have plans to review Air India or Vistara? The last time you flew them was 5 years ago and that was when government owned them.
The new Air India is on a transformation journey under Tata Leadership. Please review Air India. You are reviewing all bad airlines but you are not reviewing an airline which has more prosperous future.

14:30 Hey Dan, don’t wanna seem rude but as a pedantic pilot I must say that those are probably the wing lights (they give proper lighting to the wings in case the pilot needs to look out a window and look for damage and other stuff), and not the landing lights. Sorry if this was rude!

Hey Dan, I'm glad you made a video about my flag carrier ITA. I'm happy you enjoyed the seat. I've flown countless times with them and with Alitalia in business class as well and usually food in premium classes has always been the highlight of the flight as you were expecting as well. In fact, in business they offer series of dishes that are designed by renowned chefs and are usually executed pretty well. So, I fear that the special meal might have played a role here, as well as in other of your experiences, but I know this still shouldn't be the case. About the service, it's true that it can be a hit or miss as in other european carriers, but I've noticed that with ITA, especially compared to Alitalia, the "hits" definitely outweight the "misses". Thanks for your honest and funny reviews that I always enjoy!

Dan. The lack of champagne is because Italians have prosecco. An Italian flag carrier would NEVER serve champagne over prosecco. The difference between the two products is actually related to how they undergo secondary fermentation

Ita serves FERRARI , which is far from being similar to Prosecco. Ferrari is a METODO CLASSICO or TRENTO DOC , which vinification method is the same as for French champagne. Some Italian TRENTO DOC are way better than champagne.

Interesting since I remember watching John Cahill’s take on ita like year ago and both dishes and crew were reviewed as really good especially the meals. Champagne is not aviable I guess because Italians and French don’t get along very well. Also on the other hand Italians are special when it comes to their behavior. I still think that any European airline is at list way better in terms of being less morally stressful choice unlike middle eastern ones.

I flew Alitalia about 10 years ago to Rome and the service was some of the worst I’ve ever encountered. They berated me about not putting my seat back in the upright position on landing when it was broken and when the flight attendant finally realized it was busted she didn’t even offer an apology, she just said “in Italy we have manners”. The fact that I still remember this interaction 10 years later says all you need to know about their hiring practices. Of course I’m flying ITA business class this summer again so we’ll see if it’s still terrible.

I flew ITA a couple of weeks ago and I still don't know how to feel about it, LOL. Their weight limits on carryons is unbelievably strict and they sure do enforce it. I sat in economy and my plane's wifi was out the entire 14 hours of the flight from Rome to SFO, which was pretty tough. The weirdest thing I thought was there was actually a TON of food served in economy (probably given the long flight). The weird part though was that they served most of it in the last hour! They served us a proper meal once we were up in the air, then nothing for 12 hours, and then pizza, focaccia, bread, breakfast, snacks, etc. ALL in the last hour! It was like they forgot to serve it to us earlier in the flight so it all came out at once. Seats in economy were OK, but the legroom was pretty rough for 14 hours I must admit.

Flew ITA from Rome to Riyadh a month ago - one and one set up (on which plane I can’t recall) - totally agree with you on the lounge - couldn’t find it and then, food amazing with fresh pizza - wow. Wine great. The business class was great inflight - apart from the food which was average. Bed super comfortable and entertainment on point - bravo ITA - off to Rome in September for a wedding and will definitely splurge on business again for the experience (and hangover recovery) 🎉

So right about European cabin crews. They seem to be almost offended that you’ve boarded THEIR plane like you’ve gatecrashed their party or something. Ryanair are the worst but they’re all bad!

    • @evanmcauliffe9580

This is because their EI registered aircraft are leased. And many of the largest leasing companies have their Europe base in Ireland. Dan what you got was a "succo d'arancia" or "orangish" juice which I agree is not great. It usually is sweetened or can be mixed with other juices. A "spremuta d'arancia" means freshly-squeezed orange juice. By definition it is freshly squeezed so you will never get that in Italy unless you have a press, unlike elsewhere where there is no distinction made between the two terms and you can buy "orange juice with pulp". I agree that Ita's service is meh. It's unfortunate that the meal was meh. I have often had the same experience. A lot of former "employee-for-life" Alitalia employees. Not great. One big mistake on your part... never, ever order ethnic food from Italians!!!

I flew with them this winter. I asked for VGML food because I'm lactose intolerant, and it was bland and repetitive. The same zucchini salad for dinner, mid flight snack and breakfast. By the end of the flight I swapped my boring sandwich with the person sitting next to me.
The cabin crew was in a bad mood but still professional. There was a celebrity on board and everybody wanted a selfie and an autograph. Cabin crew spent all the flight guarding the galley that separated business from economy. I don't know how they didn't snap, they were very patient but firm. I could never.
I bought access to the lounge because I had a five hours layover, and I was almost denied entry because the receptionists couldn't find my reservation! I wanted to freshen up before leaving, but the only shower was fully booked. The only good thing about it were the seats and the proximity to the gate.
Would I fly with them again? Maybe. But I will bring extra food.

Really, I can't understand how people can say Emirates have the BEST food on a plane.
It tasted pretty bad and, to be realistic, what can people expect to have on the air?
Don't know then how you can be able to say "good" or "bad" pasta just compared on other company that aren't Italian lol.

Hi Dan. I've been following you for years and have a question regarding the logistics of filming in aircraft during your travels. Do you need to obtain special permission to film onboard flights? If you have any insights or advice on this matter, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance for taking the time to consider my query. Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

I only flew business once in my life, and it was with ITA Airways. For me the experience was amazing (compared to turist class), but also affordable, so can't really say I'm dissapointed or something.
Also, it was an older seat that this on the video!

Yeah, the seat was gorgeous but was floored at rye state of the food. Maybe catering isn't so good coming from that airport, like international flights departing from the states? I wad shocked!

Omg this food looked tragic ! As a cabin crew for an American mainline carrier myself , I’m an avgeek and had been following the rebranding of Alitalia for a while . one time after finishing an international flight I was going through the customs and we passed by the crew of ITA. They were all sitting by the conveyor belt waiting for their luggage . I became instantly excited and walked up to some of the crew members and introduced myself since I was in uniform and asked them how do they like the rebranding of their new airline . And the look of disdain and utter carelessness and annoyance that the lady gave me was really embarassing . I thought being a crew member they will be nice to me but it was the total opposite. After experiencing their disdain and getting a lukewarm response to my greeting and one simple question, I thought it was time to save whatever dignity I had left and keep my poor tired ass moving towards the exit ! So very nervously I wished them a good layover and walked towards the exit .! The crew was old, hated their uniform ( that’s the point that they had made when I asked them how they liked their uniform) and they all looked like they can use institutionalized therapy. The crew on that flight was on average around 50-55 year old and I didn’t see a single vibrant fresh smiling face that could give me an impression that the workers are liking the new branding ! They were cold, checked out, rude and had the worst sense of personal groooming that I had ever seen on a cabin crew. The men all looked like those fake tan ridden porn actors from the 80s and the woman looked like they had just walked out of the print catalogue of revlon cosmetics circa 1986. The eyeshadows were metallic blue and they all smelled of Charlie perfume that one can get on eBay for 4.99 plus tax. Disappointing ! Italian luxury is a myth for the flagship carrier of Italy that’s supposed to be an ambassador of the country looked like a cheap knock off at a run down flea market !

that was probably embarrassing, but how long ago was this experience? I fly every year now on ITA and the crew is usually not 50+ but more mixed some quite young. One thing Americans misunderstand about italians is that they are more reserved that the stereotype of a Napolitano waiter. What is actually more formal behaviour than being unfriendly. I lived most of my adult life in Italy and learned early not to be overly familiar. ps Im Italian American and speak fluent Italian, which is an advantage.

@@JeannineAltmeyer-c8k well this was not too long ago I would said October of last year. And it was sfo San Francisco . Maybe I caught a bad crew but that was the very first time I had met an Italian crew and they didn’t leave a good impression. So thats that .

Hey Dan! I started my path to collect points (avios) last year. I’m doing pretty well at earning the points. I had planned to do a business class return flight from London to Bangkok at some point. When I search on reward availability there are hardly any seats available a whole year ahead. Am I wasting my time collecting avios? I’m worried I’ll never be able to spend them due to there being hardly any reward availability. Cheers Dan! Love the videos and watch each one

Alitalia already had some of the worst service and food imaginable, and it was often quite dirty - the amenities kit and drinks in business were one of the best, though. They seem to have improved in the sections where they had to take advice, like seating.

I def wish airlines made it easier to know what planes look like what ... these videos are wonderful but like with my reseach last year and essentially memorizing every plane and flight number so that I knew which A380's were ghetto and which were slightly newer for first class and which ones were the 777s that were the most renovated/new... that only fly to the US or some spots in EU... like give people the power to choose but in order to do that I have to totally scour youtube and google like crazy to find out which planes have what .. which were renoed or not ...

I flew with them last summer and it was literally the worst flight of my life. Even worse than asian low cost airlines. We flew Rome to São Paulo in economy class. The crew, as you mentioned, wasn't receptive at all, no smile, no greeting or willingness to help. The seats were tighter than the usual flights, especially for an 11h flight. The entertainment system didn't work well, my mother's screen didn't work at all and the crew didn't even try to help. The food was shameful, dinner was a tasteless pasta with barely any sauce as well, no snacks during the flight, and breakfast was a croissant that made me sick later, with some 3 pieces of fruit. I wouldn't fly with them even if it is the cheapest option. It is such a shame, that the biggest airline of Italy has such a bad service.

It was my first trip to Italy and the vegetables you showed are in their restaurants as well so over cooked to mush. I decided also while my one month adventure in Italy to use the train instead and canceled all of my flights on ITA.

And the customer service number for lost luggage, never answered the line. I few business class, but next time, I’ll fly Delta.

Hmmm... I wouldn't call the A330-900neo the "flagship" of an airline that also has the A350-900. Now, when I saw that glass of orange juice in the first scenes I already cringed. It was... orange-colored. Anyone who has been to Italy knows that their orange juice, or at least the best (which would be expected in business class), is usually blood-red because it's pressed from oranges grown in Sicily, where both the variety grown there and the volcanic soil chemistry give that color to the fruit and its pulp. In an Italian airline, that's definitely a bad sign.

    • @JeannineAltmeyer-c8k
      @JeannineAltmeyer-c8k 3 месяца назад

I lived many years in Italy and they have both blood orange juice and what you would call" orange colored" I grow sicilian Sanguinelle oranges in CA and I live nowhere near any volcanos.
