      @@craftingforalmosteveryone Thanks Sandy, I have been to Pennsylvania around the Poconos area back in 2006 it was fall and the colour of the trees was so beautiful. This was the first time I had to drive on the wrong side of the road. LOL. It took a bit to get used to but turning at lights or round-a-bouts had to take a bit more focussing. I received my goodie pack today of a stamp master stamp tool, versa mark clear pad, a bottle of clear stamp cleaner, 2 embossing powders (leaf green and red geranium) a static pad, emboss pen set and microsponges (to use instead of a brush) of course we don't have as much variety here than what I remember in the US. I wish though that I had seen your video before purchasing as I would have saved quite a bit of dough (money) :) Can't wait to start practising because as you may guess with those colours, I am doing Christmas stuff. Stay well, Janelle

      @@janellekm Sounds like you got some great tools to heat emboss...I hope you'll send me a photo of what you're making. saundralparker@yahoo.com. I've never tried driving on the other side of the road and bet that was a little scary. I live on the opposite end of the state from the Poconos. I live about an hour south of Lake Erie, and am a lot closer to Niagara Falls and Canada, than I am to the Poconos. Pennsylvania is a large state and takes about 8 hours to drive across it. When I say I'm from PA, people always ask if I'm from Philadelphia...and that's probably the city you would have flown into for the Poconos.
      I laughed when you said you could have saved a lot of dough and then explained that meant money...that's a widely used term here, so no worries about me understanding. If you decide to try another new technique, please let me know in advance, because I'm sure I can save you a lot of money. As for embossing powders, the one you should buy is clear, because you can stamp any colored ink under it and then quickly put clear embossing powder over it and once you heat set it, you'll get the color you stamped (only a little darker) as the powder seems to darken it a little. The color I really recommend is Princess Gold from Ranger as it's not a bold gold and looks great when you want something to look elegant. I love it with flowers or sentiments. I don't recommend black or white embossing powders as I always struggle with stray flecks of it where I don't want it. No matter what I do, I get those stray flecks in black and white. I'm not sure if you can buy products from Aliexpress in Australia, but they sell a lot of craft products cheaper than I can buy them here. I love buying tear tape and brushes, basically any craft product you need...Sandy

If you have any questions about embossing, please feel free to ask, as I'm more than happy to help...saundralparker@yahoo.com....I think you'll really enjoy heat embossing...one tip you should know is when you are heating the powder, don't leave the heat tool in one spot for very long...as soon as the powder turns shiny, move on, or your embossing powder will go from shiny to sinking into the paper and not being shiny or raised.. You can always go back over what you've heated if it's not shiny, but once you've over heated it, there's no going back...hope that helps...Sandy

Amazingly, the embossing powder I bought ten years ago when it was on sale is still good, as are the pigment inks I bought back then. I wish I'd seen your video before I bought a little (way overpriced) bag to clean off cardstock before stamping with Versamark - it never occurred to me that I could make my own. Yes I got one pretty early into my stamping. I was having trouble using the blocks, hand and grip issues. Was about to toss everything and saw maymay use one and got 1. One of the best thing I did buy. I try and buy what I really need but then save when I can and your videos help me figure it out. I have slowly expanded my products. You seem to do a video when I am getting ready to make my next step. As of now embossing is my last adventure. Lol.at least for now. Until you do a video on something else that catches my eye. I think I am pretty set. I basically do just cards. I use to cross stitch and crochet but just can't do it anymore. But cards are doable. I can take my time and set it aside when I need too. The people I send then to are just thrilled with them and I really not that good. You have been such a blessing with what you do for your viewers. I really mean that Sandy. I am not the person that doesn't say what I mean good or bad. Every time I turn on my phone or tablet and see that you have a new video up I watch it right then. Stay warm. Take care Debi.

      Debi, You MADE MY DAY! Thanks so much for your kind words, they mean so much to me. I loved to needlepoint and cross stitch (in the 80's), but then just couldn't hold the needle anymore. They just recently came out with dies that cut the holes to cross stitch on a card. I can't imagine putting that much work into something that the recipient will toss. I might consider trying a row of stitches on a card, but highly doubt it. I still have all of my old threads/yarns, but can't bring myself to get rid of them. I do use the embroidery floss in videos to thread through buttons on cards. I like the look of them with floss as it's so much thicker than thread.
      I love sending cards to people and my postal workers always smile at the art on the outside of my envelopes, so maybe it makes them happy seeing cards go through the mail...I'd love to see some of yours.

      Steve, I'm so glad you learned things from this video. I love helping crafters save money and try to make sure to offer money saving tips on all of my videos. And, I always write complete info below each video so you can print them out and use it for a reference guide. I started doing that in detail after maybe my first 50 videos, so you have over 500 more that should have the information below them. My channel isn't monetized and I'm not affiliated with any company, so when I provide product links, it's so you know where I bought something, but I always recommend you price shop. If you live in the US, Joanns usually has the best coupons and you should almost always be able to save 40-50% off one item, like your heat tool in this case. If you ever have any questions, feel free to email me, as I am happy to help. saundralparker@yahoo.com Good luck with embossing, I hope you really enjoy it. PS if you live in a hot, humid climate, your embossing powder might go bad over time..I recommend you keep it in the container it comes in and keep it well sealed to hopefully preserve it as long as possible....(I also recommend you make your own corn starch or baby powder pouch, as it will save you up to $10 for basically the same thing...You can use a baby sock and either stitch the end closed or knot it like I knotted knee highs, or if you can still find knee highs, mine is still working great....

    Very thorough and informative. I also do not like the EK success powder tool. It never seems like the powder is coming out and it covers such a small area. That versa fine ink pad case is ridiculous. Can't believe they've never changed it. And they've got the best cases for the Momento and brilliance inks.

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone

      Thanks so much. I really wonder why Jennifer McGuire used that powder tool forever, and that's why I bought it, even though when I watched her, it seemed like she was always shaking it to get the powder to distribute. I see that she has recently changed to a pouch. You're right, that Versafine ink is awesome, but the case, ridiculous. I would have thought by now they'd have gotten enough complaints that they would have changed it too...Maybe the cost to change is just too high for the value that they think they will get out of it. Still love the ink though... Thanks for sharing your thoughts with me. I've meant to tell you that I like your screen name and wonder if you are a card stock hoarder (like me). haha...

    Thank you so much for the tutorial on heat and bossing Sandy! I just got my heat tool yesterday, it is the same as yours. I have ink pads, I won 6 small bottles of embossing powder in different colors, in a online craft group I am apart of, as a prize from a game. I have paint brushes. the only thing I don't have is that little Powderpuff thing but I can make one of those. I'm excited to get started heat embossing! This was really a great tutorial!

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone

      Lee, I hope you'll send me a photo of your first heat embossing project. There are so many things you can do when you've mastered heat embossing. As for the pouch, I just took two knee highs and put them inside each other, then put some corn starch (or baby powder) inside and knotted it as close to the corn starch as possible, and cut off the ends. I've used it for years and it still works great. I wouldn't have bought the other "pouch" products as I really think my homemade one works best. If you can sew, you could make your own pouch out of muslin....I only bought the bottle because I was testing to see if there was any performance difference in videos, and I found the bottle with the brush is the least effective and is hard to get the powder to come out consistently. I can't wait to hear all about your heat embossing.....Sandy

    That was a great tutorial for heat embossing. I think you covered literally EVERYTHING. I do the same as you with just using colored ink and versa mark over it with clear powder. I also bought a bottle of pure vegetable glycerine (got mine at Walmart in the skincare section)for jsut a couple dollars and refill my embossing pens as well as pads with it. much cheaper than buy the re-inkers.

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  6 лет назад

      I was really afraid to confuse people with glycerin, but will be doing it in one of the follow up videos for people who already have the basics down. What percentage glycerin to water do you use for your re-inking? I could have re-inked that Ink It Up pad with it, but I didn't want anyone to get the idea that they needed to buy glycerin....I have never found the right mix of glycerin to water when I tried re-inking, and mine were too sticky.

    • @parmacrafter
      @parmacrafter 6 лет назад

      In a 1 ounce bottle I put 1 teaspoon of distilled water and the rest vegetable glycerine. It is a bit on the sticky side, but works beautifully.

    I do a lot of embossing and try to encourage others to add just that finished look to their cards. Versamark is my prefered ink for heat embossing when using colored powders and when using a colored ink I prefer a fine or extra fine clear powder.

      @@leeyadrick4469 I don't think you can ever let your gun get too hot...by that I mean that it's better to keep it on a while before putting it to paper, because the embossing powder will melt a lot faster for you, and you'll get better results..you won't burn your paper because you held the gun on it too long,, or "overcook" the embossing powder. That was my first big mistake...I'd leave the heat on it too long and my image would look shiny, and then it wouldn't, because basically it melts so much that it sinks into the paper so you lose the raised shiny look... I think if you really warm your heat gun up, you'll be happy with the results...and if you aren't, email me a photo of it and what you think is wrong, and I'd be more than happy to talk you through it...saundralparker@yahoo.com
      I had trouble embossing at first too, so it's definitely not you...I think it just takes a little practice....and if you live in a hot humid climate, your embossing powder can go bad, so if it's clumpy coming out of the container, you might be having trouble because of that too....hope I helped....I'm so glad I can be here to help you...It's not easy when you're learning something new...Sandy

      If you live in a humid area, it can affect your embossing powder and make it so it doesn't stick well to the Versamark ink. And if you do live in a humid area, you might want to take one of those small pouches you get inside certain things you buy that keep the humidity out, and put into your embossing powder bottle, so they last longer and work better. Sandy thank you so much for this video. You have helped me out in the past when I was having trouble understanding the differences in the types of ink. You had told me that you would be doing a video on embossing. This has been more then I could hope for. I had been reluctant about embossing because of the cost. In my head I had already limited myself to a few basic colors. I had no idea you could use regular ink with clear powder. But I do have 1 question. I have seen a few videos where they heated the powder from the back but never explained why. Thank you again, Debi.

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  6 лет назад +1

      So glad you asked. If you heat from the back, you won't burn the paper as much, and some papers will warp, so it helps with that as well. I used to only heat from the back because I was scared of scorching the paper. I plan on showing different ways of heating in the next video, so we can tell if one method works better than another. Thanks for asking...

      I would buy a clear embossing powder, and if you don't have Versafine Onyx Black Ink, I'd buy a stamp pad of that, so you can heat emboss it with the clear to make a really nice black embossed finish. A metallic is great for Christmas cards etc., and I'm still trying to find a white I really like. It will probably be in one of the next embossing videos where I show how hard it is to use white, much like black. The Versafine Onyx Black ink makes black powder unnecessary, but there aren't any white inks that will do the same for white powder so far. I'll keep you in the loop though...

      I think you might be using a thick embossing powder, or ultra trick. I'd change to fine detail embossing powder and don't put a lot on...you can always add more and reheat if you don't have enough powder, but I think that should solve the bubbling...less might be the answer.
