Toranaga gave a church site next to the brothel area.
This means not allowing the construction of a church from the beginning.
Hiramatsu's seppuku is not begging for his life, but a plea in exchange for his life.
Loyalty refers to vassals like Hiramatsu.
The emotions of this episode are also felt by Japanese people.
The content was quite risqué, difficult to understand, deep, and interesting.

When presenting tea, the front of the tea bowl should face the guest. The guest admires the design and turns it slightly to avoid lips touching the front. The "front" is the most beautiful side of the bowl.

@@TrophyReacts I have noticed that the hanging scroll says 『柳緑花紅 The willows are green, the flowers are crimson』. Willow world and Crimson sky? This is a saying that expresses the essence of Zen. 『The truth is as it is, as they are.』

Toranaga is a different breed. He has to live with Hiromatsu's sacrifice. The man has an unwavering commitment to the cause.

In Japan at the time, there was a custom called ``諌死'' in which a vassal would die to warn a lord if he failed. This led Osaka to believe that Toranaga was serious about surrendering, and that he was willing to do so even if his vassals died. Also, the ``person who cannot die'' refers to Toranaga. Historically, Toranaga was a feudal lord, but since he was an only child, he always made many sacrifices to survive the country. That's how they made peace.😄

Seppuku is a way of taking responsibility with the utmost respect for loyalty and pride.
Originally, this was not an act that would be easily forgiven.

Buntaro is a love/ hate character for me like I didn't like seeing him cry but at the same time Mariko has been asking for release for the longest now all of sudden he wants to grant her wish now that Toranaga is going to surrender na bro lol

I can understand how the relationship between Buntaro and Mariko looks to you just coming off recent events, but remember: Mariko saw his clan as worthless from the beginning. She always saw him as beneath her. Yeah he wasn't a great husband but she's never been a loving wife. You're being way too harsh on him when this show should've proven to you by now that nothing is as it seems.

and dont forget she slept with John literally a few days after she THOUGHT he died. Mariko isn't so innocent herself.

He’s a great character but I don’t like him aha, never said she was perfect either but I’m definitely a bigger fan of hers than his, as soon as he started beating her (and gonna assume that wasn’t the first time) he kinda lost all sympathy from me

    • @boxtears

@@TrophyReacts That's fair, I'm just saying they have a history. No husband who is overly controlling and oppressive would let his wife convert to Catholicism. He's probably made loads of concessions to her over the years, only to consistently get the cold shoulder. And if we're going to judge him by today's moral standards, we should also judge her for being absolutely mental in wanting to commit sudoku every year.

Buntaro might be an a-hole in many aspects but most of his a-holeness was considered acceptable in his culture so is he really an inherently bad guy or just a product of a broken system?

In this drama, Buntaro played the role of Tadaoki Hosokawa (November 28, 1563 - January 18, 1646), a real-life samurai of the sengoku period.
Tadaoki loved his only wife, Tama, (Hosokawa Garcia, July 17, 1563 - August 25, 1600)or Mariko in the drama. He could have divorced her when her clan went down but he Stayed married to her. But then she became catholic while he was away, she made him shut up about it, and long story short in the end reportedly created a situation where she would die and succeeded when she was around 36-37yo.
She was a fairly advanced and unusual type of woman for her time, studying martial arts when most women were submissive and feminine (protected by men), being a neo-Christian (catholic) in a Shinto and Buddhist dominated Japan, and learning English in a mostly Japanese speaking country.
Buntaro loved a proud, strong, independent woman who won’t love him back.

a timy little chew toy to speculate on for a bit: Did Hiromatsu and Toranaga pre-plan the theatrics from the start; or did they have an understanding of what must be done in the heat of the moment? tell me your theories!

      Farewell! (さらば!)とか?これにて失礼致します、という文脈やニュアンスを感じますね。(先に旅立つことをお許しください、という意味ならforgiveでよいかもしれませんが。)上手く言えないですが。中々翻訳が難しいですね。
