    Yes! The van is back! The other two are great but I'll always have a soft spot for vans.
    I've been thinking of upgrading my plastic window catches for a while but I've been struggling to justify the cost. These look great though so you may have persuaded me to finally break open the piggy bank. I think I'd prefer black gaskets too, it seems a less noticeable colour from the outside.
    I hope you get the issues with the Mk1 sorted soon, you must be itching to take your first drive in it.

    Hi Alex . WOW ! Can't believe how much these cost. ....And how many were simply thrown away over the years ! All the early Mini's had the chrome over brass catches regardless of the model . I know, l scrapped a '63 van back in 1970 with those fittings .....if only l knew then !!😨😨😨 The new catches are of better quality all round . You could just black out the gaskets with a black "sharpie" pen or stick on insulation tape just to compare or decide . Blimey ! You were working late ! Take care.

    • @classicminidetails8887
      @classicminidetails8887  3 года назад +1

      Yeah they ain't cheap but the quality shows why they cost so much. I haven't ever come across a new mini part that's actually better than an original before!

  • @alexwade9921
    @alexwade9921 3 года назад +1

    I don’t think there is any issue with fitting an earlier part to a later car. Back in the day I’m sure there were people who spotted that there were nicer bits they could find and fit to their cars. If they fit, and especially if it’s a reversible modification, then it’s all good. In a way, you’re preserving the plastic ones for the future. They might wear out or break if you use them.

    • @classicminidetails8887
      @classicminidetails8887  3 года назад

      Yeah I really like the period mods, not a fan of modern modifications personally but it's whatever makes you happy for me!

  • @alexwade9921

    Are you suffering problems with electrical noise on the Cooper Alex? From my experience of old (with car hi-fi issues in classic cars) the main things that will make a difference are the HT leads. If you have old school copper HT leads you need to substitute either carbon conductor type, or copper with a ballast resistor on each lead. They’ll give a cleaner and less messy (in terms of RFI) spark. Also, if you add a little inductor (say two milli henries) to the power supply side of the sensor causing you problems. That will help prevent the ignition noise being injected into the sensor circuits.

    • @classicminidetails8887
      @classicminidetails8887  3 года назад +1

      I think it's that fact it's on points mate. I have sent an electronic ignition kit over for it in the hope that helps it be less irratic

    • @alexwade9921
      @alexwade9921 3 года назад

      @@classicminidetails8887 - Is that just a ‘breakerless’ type ignition kit that fits inside the distributor? If so, it’s much better for keeping the car running sweet between services without spoiling the original appearance (old fashioned contact breaker points are just terrible) but won’t really help that much with noise. The problem occurs between the coil and the spark plug electrodes. You wanna add some suppressed leads too if you don’t have them. If you shop around you can probably get some made up that look pretty original in terms of colour. There are people around (on eBay for example) who will make them to length on order. You’ll still have some noise regardless. Once the spark interference/noise has been created in the ignition system it sort of radiates around the whole wiring loom. Some inductance (something like this)

      In series, in the dc supply to the clutch control unit that powers the sensors etc. might help to filter the RF out. Watch out for current ratings etc though. There are higher current types than that available.

    Is the Mk1 Cooper S wired positive earth? They might be assuming it’s negative earth and trying to take a signal from the wrong side of the coil. Can’t see how a new coil will make any difference.

    That van brings back memories of the early 80s, my friend had one and he was the first out of us lot to pass his test so we all used to ride in the back. One of our parents was kicking out and old sofa so we got the cushions to sit on. Had loads of fun.

    Very nice! I fitted an original set of chrome catches to my own '65, very much aware that they're unoriginal to the year of car, but they look and feel much nicer than the old plastic ones they replaced. At the end of the day, they're not exactly tricky to switch back if you wanted to enter a concours or something like that which warrants 100% factory originality, just keep your plastic ones aside as spares and you're good to go.
