- CREATE A WRITING SCHEDULE TO HELP HIT YOUR DEADLINES//
Gosh, this one is a big one for me! I have always been a procrastinator, and it takes a deadline and a very clear idea of when I want to be finished with a book for me to get motivated.
Today, I'm going to show you how I create a production schedule for each book I write. This writing plan helps me to hit my deadlines and stay motivated.

I love how watching other people plan and be productive makes me feel accomplished. I succeed vicariously lol
Haha, this is so true. This is probably why I spend half my day on Sundays just watching planner videos :P
"This is deadline hair." I love it 😂😂
I've loved this video. Crossing off the days you know you're not going to write, then counting them out makes so much sense!! I love this tip, thank you!! x
This is sooooo interesting...a REAL author in action! Thank you for sharing!
Great presentation. A gold package for any Author.
I love how transparent you are with your book planning process. It really helps motivate me to keep pushing through until I figure out which writing schedule works best for me. Thanks for posting these behind-the-scenes videos. You Rock!
I finally started writing my first book, and have no idea what i'm diving into. However you are the encouragement that help push me forward and I feel blessed to have run across your channel, watching for a few months now.
Thanks for sharing. Your inspiration and generosity are appreciated. You look great with your hair up!
I love this idea, I have been watching your videos tonight. I am a first beginner of my book writing. I am also still learning how to take steps and by watching your videos. I have more confidence in myself than I did yesterday.
This is so helpful. I am working on my first book and appreciate how you quantified your goals.
This video always inspired me. I’m on a solo retreat to finish this draft. Thank you for always encouraging!
Love your deadline hair - you look gorgeous! Thank you for sharing, and best of luck with all your goals!
This Writing Plan page is awesome! I totally need to use these!
I'd love to see more about the planner pages you made! I make my own writing tracker worksheets and stickers for my Happy Planner so new ideas always help :)
Awesome! I am excited to show them off, haha. This is my first week trying a two-week spread that I made myself, and it's really been working for me. I'd love to see pics sometime of your writing tracker worksheets, too!
Right now, they're more word count trackers. I have plans to design other outlining sheets but I haven't been able to fit it into my schedule yet :) You can get a peek on my alter ego's Instagram instagram.com/writemisswrite/
I love your process! Thanks for sharing it, you've given me a few ideas.
I love your ideas!!!! With your guidlines, I just finished my plots, characters, and goals and how many word counts I should have for the next 2 months!!!! Right now, I am writing my book and I'm already in chapter 3 with over 3,000 words 😍😍😍😍
I love love love this page!!! I really need the project page
I have a freaking old happy planner and have been looking for vids like this forever I'm so pissed it took me so damn long. Seriously tho this vid is great subbed!
Im a super fan of yours! From the Philippines!
Omgosh that tattoo is amazing! ❤️
This is amazing!
This is so good . Thanks
I love your videos. I have several book deadlines this year and was trying to think of a way to manage them. This will work for me. The Happy Planners are so versatile.
Thank you Jacki! And I agree about the Happy Planners. They are so awesome. I guess *maybe* there will be a point where I feel like I have too many of them turned into notebooks, but that day is not today , haha!
i needed this. thanks. you get caught in a stage and it never seems to end.
Please do a video on compiling this planner, it really appeals. Thank you for all your good work. Your channel means so much more to me during this lockdown and helps to stop me going insane due to the loneliness. When it's over my friends and I are going to have a group hug (teletubbies style).
I'd love to see some of your homemade planner pages.
Thank you for your videos, they're just what I need right now. I'm just starting out as an author, and am aiming to have 2 books released this year, one traditionally published (in October) and one self-published (when I figure out All the Things--maybe not until early next year, we'll see). With things moving more quickly than I expected, I'm finding myself scrambling to wrap my head around how the behind the scenes organization and planning need to happen in order to keep up in this new world I've entered. My new quarterly plan and kanban board (thank you!) are helping me feel a lot less overwhelmed by the sheer volume of things I need to learn and do, but I would dearly love to see your business planning pages as well.
Thanks Amy! I'm really glad this is helping. I know it really seems like so much to learn, but you will get the hang of it. Try to just have fun with it and not feel that you have to do it all!
I absolutely would like to see you and your business planner pages in action!
I really enjoy your videos!!
Would you please consider a second video on the first book you did and the plan for that? This is a tremendous video, but I want to be realistic on my deadlines and expectations. I am on my first book, and of course also do not have a beta reader team, nor an editor. Suggestions there would be great. I am binge watching your videos and they are tremendous, especially your positivity and honesty. Thank you for your videos.
Thanks for this video! I really would like to become a more scheduled writer, especially since I plan to write a trilogy after my standalone novel.
I would love to see what's your editing process. I just finished my draft and now I'm going to edit the draft. I was thinking to give myself a month so when I watched your video and saw you revise in five days I was blown away. Love your videos.
I freakin' ADORE YOU! You are the Goddess of Getting Things Done!
I would love to see a video on how you got an editor (since you are indie) and how you chose your ARC team. LOVE your videos ❤️
I love your system, Sarra. I work similarly so your free download Will come very handy. Thank you for that and for another great video!
Awesome, thanks Mayra!
I love how organized this is!! I need to do this so badly, perfect timing ❤️ Thanks Sarra!!
P.S. I decided to include your deadline tracker in the series bible for my WIP that I've been creating and I've already found it super helpful! I actually just posted a video about how I put together my series bible and referenced your resource and your channel so that others can check out this great tool as well, I hope that's ok! 😁🙌
Wow, thanks so much for that Brittany!! I am going to go watch it now. I appreciate the shout-out!
Love this video. Great inspiration as always!
Thank you Hildie!
Are you good at sticking to a schedule and hitting deadlines? Or are you like me - a procrastinator?
Procrastinator!
Procrastinator 😆😆😆 I’ve been using a planner and trying to figure out a system that works for me. I will be downloading your worksheet , thanks!
Complete and total procrastinator. Staring down a major deadline I’m not prepared for on August 1 and freaking out again. Knew it was coming since November. Full of anxiety
Procrastinator.
I'm a HUGE procrastinator. Every time I promise myself that I won't do this to myself again, but of course, I always do. Argh!
This was helpful.
I'm glad for this channel. subscribed!
Thank you Sabrina!
I would love a video on how you make your planner!
I totally would love to see your business planning pages. I am trying to figure out how to turn my new social media marketing college education into a business to help authors. I'd love to see what your business planning looks like for inspiration. (it's me, Brenda, from INKSLINGERS DEN.)
Awesome, thanks Brenda/Renee!
I can use some help marketing. :)
Hi Sara. Love your channel. I'm wondering if you have any videos on how to get beta readers and finding an editor, or more on that part of your writing process. I did my best to look through your published videos, but nothing jumped out at me on this subject. Thanks.
I just love the videos! I use both a Hobonichi and a Happy Planner style to keep me organized (okay and maybe a few other things...too many things...lol) I Will try to find you at RWA, even if it is just to say hello!
Oh yes! Hope to see you at RWA for sure!
I would love to see a video on how to find an good editor! Also, how do you find an ARC team?
This is really helpful! I see you talk about beta readers in another video - looking forward to that!
Thanks this was very helpful! I’m a procrastinator in the worse way lol
Did you ever make the video on your planner? I need that in my life.
This is so very helpful. Now, when do you fit in your cover art? Or do you have lots of covers done way in advance? I’m just starting on the self-publishing journey and hoping to have my debut novel published in 2019. So glad I found your channel!!
Janet, I typically have my cover art done way in advance! Since I write series, I tend to get a batch of them done far ahead of time just to make sure the branding is consistent. My cover artist also tends to book up six to eight months in advance, so I wouldn't want to cut it close and have to use a different artist or delay the book release. It's best to choose a cover artist you want to use as soon as possible and get on their schedule as soon as you can! Since this will be your debut, though, I wouldn't book it too far in advance, since any number of things can happen between now and then (like changing your mind about the tone or the market shifting and the style of cover not fitting anymore). I would recommend looking around for someone who does the style and genre of cover art you want and doing a simple inquiry about how far in advance you'll need to book them. That should help you plan!
Wish I was going to RWA to get a chance to meet you. But Colorado gives me headaches. I know it's the altitude thing, but I can't seem to beat it. So I'm holding out for NYC next year.
I wish you were going, too, but oh no to the headaches! I've never been, so hopefully it won't be an issue! I am definitely hoping to make it to NYC next year, so we can plan to meet up there!
That would be cool. I know a few of my friends who also watch your videos. So it'd be cool to grab drinks or something. Fingers crossed for next year, then.
Been watching a lot of your videos and trying to see how you do all the planning and writing. Wow! I am a newbie and can't even see where to begin. Although your plot you novel videos are making so much sense! But I am a huge procrastinator and have ordered a hobonichi cousin and am hoping I can make plans and stick to them.
I tried to set up my 90 day goals similar to how you broke yours up, but again I had trouble with the details. Not sure why I'm making it so hard for myself...
Any advice?
I know it can be a lot to take in! I'll be running a course on the 90 day planning hopefully in September and again at the end of the year to get ready for each new quarter where I'll go into more detail on how to set the goals and choose what goes on the board, etc. If you're interested, just make sure you're signed up for my newsletter. I think the link is in the description. I'm so happy the plot videos are helping!!
@@HeartBreathings thank you for your response! Yes I'm signed up for your newsletter so I'll be looking for the class. Thanks so much.
Hi you mentioned sending it out to ARC. What’s ARC?
What I struggle with is WHERE to plan all this lol. I go back and forth between digital and analog.
Are these pages similar to the ones that will be in the planner you've designed?
How do you make your fill-out-template-pages?
What does ARC stand for ?
What is an arcs team?
Veronica Mars! ;)
Yasss, haha. She's my girl. And the inspiration behind my first series!
I’ve watched this before, Sarra. However, I’m referring back as I strive for 3 books in 2024.
Are you still using this or a different form you can update? Hugs & Creative Blessings!
I haven't used this in a while, though it is in the back of the HB90 planners if you ever want to reference it. I might do an update coming up!

Definitely a procrastinator, good at scheduling and the scramble right before the deadline, not so good at hitting the targets, lol. Are you setting a Camp Nano goal?
That's exactly me, too. I don't know what's changed this year, except that I just decided to get more organized and set more outside deadlines that make me feel accountable. I'm always still doing a mad scramble at the end, though, no matter what. And yes for Camp NaNo! My goal is 70k words! What about you?
I was thinking of doing 30k, I keep telling myself 1k or even 1,300 words shouldn't be that hard for me to reach, I legitimately have the time.
Can you update this
In your schedule, where do you put the creation of your cover? Do you have your cover already made before you start writing your book (regardless of where it falls in a series)?
I didn't have my covers done early when i first started, but these days, cover artists can be booked so far out that I've just gotten into the habit of doing a lot of covers way in advance. So yes, for the past several years, I've had my covers done long before I started writing the book. That might not work for everyone, though, but just be aware that you at least should be looking into booking the time with the artist you want to use a good bit in advance!
@@HeartBreathings Excellent advice, as always. Thank you! 💚💙💜
You plan, write, edit, and publish a book in about 2 months?!
Still, I am so glad to have found you, Sarra.
