    H [at the end of the platform] is where you would stop the train [H = Halt]. You had some coaches off the end of the platform.

    Thank you for adressing the issues with Dovetail. Ever since they took over from the OG trainsimulator made by Microsoft they have done the absolute minimum they could get away with. First they came with Railworks, which was a graphical improvement but gameplay wise no innovations or new ideas. Than the DLC floodgates opened, pushing content but not much else. Much could have been done with that game during the nearly 20 years of development but they chose the easy route giving the finger to many of its customers in the process. Glad there is another player on the block, if they listen to the community they will come out on top for sure.

    • @b747man3
      @b747man3 Месяц назад +3

      Trainz is still being developed, I am still playing it, and I think it is an excellent competitor to Dovetail's simulator. But the cost of its continuous backwards compatibility is that it has a lot of old content that new players can't stand. However, of all the train simulators, it has the best build tools for creative players.

    • @Jorendo
      @Jorendo 22 дня назад

      @@DocXango Look at the competition. Trainz allowed multiplayer, Simrail let's you even play as the control center to make sure trains are on the right tracks. Derail let's you take on jobs and heck Train Life made it a sort of Eurotruck sim but with trains (not a very good game sadly and pretty much abandoned by the devs shortly after release). DTG can do so much more, but they take the easy, lazy, way out. Train Sim World has minor improvements with each version, something they could have patched instead of asking money for it every time. Why not finally give the players what they want hm? People been asking for tool to make their own maps in that one, people asked for multiplayer, the competition can do it so why can't they? Why not give the train sims a Eurotruck treatment? Don't have to build up the whole of Europe or America, just pick a region in a country and use that. Let people pick jobs to complete so they feel more satisfied then just picking the mission from the list, drive from A to B and depending on the sort of train you have stops in between. They have a lvling up system but why? It's not like you unlock trains or whatever?

      An Editor is clearly in the workings but not available just yet. At least the button for it is already visible in the main menu although greyed out.
      Once that comes out, the next big question is wether they will open up the possibility to create player-run dedicated servers or a process to review player-created routes to eventually take them into the game as DLC (and obviously paying royalties to the creators).
      SimRail has the foundational elements to easily become the King of Genre, seeing how limited the DoveTail Games are and how many people are fed up with DoveTail TrainSims.
      But SimRail needs way better marketing and a fair bit more communication and transparency from the devs with the playerbase.

    I don't know about all that talk about how dominant Dovtail is and knocking it off it's perch... It's true they probably have the largest player base at the moment but I don't think they are as dominant as you describe. For me it was already knocked off it's perch, as ever since SimRail was released (which for some reason you didn't mention at all in the video - or did I miss it?), I had played TSW exactly once. And it crashed mid scenario on my chosen route, as it tends to often do. I hadn't fired it up since, for over a year now, according to steam. I play a lot of SimRail, some Derail Valley and a bit of Diesel Railcar Simulator and TramSim. TSW lost all appeal for me, and it's not because DLC costs money - it's because Dovetail have no followthrough, they keep releasing "new" versions of the sim instead of properly updating what they already have. And their routes are too short and fragmented for my liking. I like a proper network with diverging routes. Also, the multiplayer and community aspect of SimRail completely beguiled me, so all DTG offerings now just feel repetitive and deserted to me. I didn't buy TSW4 and am not planning on doing so. Now having said all that, I'm not sure "luring people away" from DTG is the right way to put it - lets face it, most of us railfans own most of the available sims on the market anyway, at least in some form.
    This new sim looks nice, I like German stuff, and the cab sway feels authentic enough, which is the one thing I really miss in SimRail. But if it has no planned multiplayer (and it seems like it doesn't) I have no interest in it. But it's still good to see, the more the merrier, I'd say 😎

    I must admit this looks good, but for me the best train game is still Run 8 in terms of physics, freedom, track milage, and things to do.
    Games like TSW and this one are just too restrictive and hand holding.
    Run 8 has been doing a lot of work and updating lately.
    In Run 8 you have to do job X, Y, and Z, and just figure it out and do the way you want to instead of: Go here, reverse here, go here, uncouple here, etc, etc, and make you drive a mile before it lets you switch a switch and reverse for something that could've been done in 5% of the time.

      Also, while single player is nice, it requires a lot of work to set up a full functioning and populated railroad, as is a sandbox game.

    It depends what level of realism you want, if you want a 1:1 driver realism, then real world is you need to be trained on a loco/train and you need to be trained on a route, no UK driver is allowed free reign on the Network unless they have knowledge of those rails; this is why often if there's a train ahead broken down, trains behind often get terminated at a station rather than rerouted because drivers probably don't have route knowledge of an obvious diversion.
    I agree the all servicing/upgrading is a bit strange, I like the idea that periodically you have to take the loco/train to a specified maintenance depot, that's realistic, but the purchasing parts, no no, that's be the operator's responsibility.

    I don't need high fidelity graphics, but a sim that works properly and doesnt crash and stutter.

    The ER gauge in the bottom right is the equalizing reservoir. I assume the four gauges show the brake parameters for the locomotive and tha graph beneath it for the whole train in the same colours according to the gauges. The green number at the top of the graph is the traction of the locomotive in %.

    What or how can I do train simulation ? I have no knowledge about this and also that it is not a Dutch language, many years ago I used to cover train truck and plane simulations with DVDs in my laptop I still have those DVDs ! Now I would really like to do simulations again 😍, can someone tell me what I should do now because of the purchase of these simulations and how and with what I can drive a train there in those simulations. 🤔06/05/2024 - 21:40

    Having lived in that area, the scenery needs a finish to replicate the actual look. Currently the scenery has roads that in reality are not and were not there and other details. It looks promising, but there is a significant chance the developers/publisher can mess this up with delivering an "unfinished" product. I need to check if there ever was a BR218 with an Intercity service on that route...

    The speed limits of this game are completely unrealistic the signal at 16:57 shows KS1 with a ZS3 with an 8 on top that means there is a 80 speed limit from this signal to the next signal. But the game shows the speed limit only from the first switch onwards which is completely wrong. Also you have to obey the 80 speedlimit from the exit signal at 20:50 until your LAST coach has passed the last switch of the station which is the switch at 21:48 coming from the left. The game already shows 120 km/h at 21:50 which is wrong.

    Not sure how German systems work but, on a US, train the ER "equalizing reservoir" should represent the brake pipe target basically, when you move the automatic brake the whole train brake you are adjusting the ER, and the locomotive will do what's needed to adjust the brake pipe to match the ER either reduce or charge the brake pipe. Charge to release reduce to set brakes. So far, the only game I've seen nail US airbrake simulation is Run 8

    Nice review but aside from the repeated "its a free demo" why should anyone get onboard? Are they doing anything better or are they just another sim that does what the others do?

    Calling every new train sim a competitor to Dovetail isn't really fair, since they've all been pretty much superior in design and function (apart from Train Life which isn't a simulator), but fail to get the support from the devs and customers that they need to succeed. Only reason Dovetail has gotten so big is because they were first and for the longest time the only ones to make a train simulator. But after 20+ years, literally all they've done is rehash MS Train Sim 2 over and over and over without making any noticeable improvements. Their DLC model wouldn't be so bad if the pricing remotely resembled the typically very poor quality of the product.

    We might not be that far off from something like MSFS did. Essentially a trainsim platform, where a combination of satellite imagery, a huge database of 3d objects & textures relevant for specific countries/areas, and some kind of 3d-building AI combined with hand-made assets for the more unusual buildings, might generate realistic-enough looking routes - with rail grids downloaded from openrailway map. At least from the technical standpoint.
    The biggest hurdle would be that unless Microsoft or Google did it, getting all the hi-res satellite data might get prohibitively expensive.
    And, of course, wanting to drive simulated trains is most likely much smaller niche than wanting to fly simulated airplanes.
    The graphics in this one looks nice i guess, but i always feel rush of adrenaline when i hear that something is "free" immediately followed by "but it has paid DLCs". Well - then it's not free at all, is it. It's like giving you flight simulator free, but you only get one plane, it's a glider, and only available scenery is 2x2km area around landfill near Calcutta.
    Seeing the fckload of various virtual currencies gives me War Thunder/World of Warplanes PTSD, and makes me want to avoid this like the plague.

    Nice that they are working on one. There are people in Germany owning trains as self-employed and take contracts, owing a loco is not unrealistic in Germany. I was hoping someone would make a game out of this life, there are multiple documentaries about one guy living with his loco, self-maintaining it and doing leftover contracts.
    Though, they need the dev backup to create routes and have a connected railsystem. If they just copy Dovetail experience packs this will fail.
    The UI looks like a mobile game :/. I have a feeling it will be aimed at abusing rail fans with P2W.
