As the designer of the mentioned plugin, I want to thank you for taking the time to create such a wonderful video. I was sure that such videos would be made. However, I would like to mention, with your permission, some points you talked about in the video that you actually overlooked and which are indeed crucial. In fact, you've proven why we need Deres. Firstly, I can clearly hear that ProQ3 makes the sound much harsher compared to Deres. Of course, one needs to have spent years in sound engineering to hear this. The reason is that what you refer to as AIR is not actually an EQ setting. Deres's Excite module is not a high-shelf EQ filter. It is a harmonic enhancement module that I have worked on for a long time and is extremely clean and works nonlinearly. Therefore, we cannot measure a system that works nonlinearly by looking at the linear response in Plugin Doctor, as this will lead you to make incorrect decisions about the plugin.
Another point is that you didn't mention the time it took you to create a similar response in your video. It's normal to cut that part of the video so the viewers don't get bored after creating the responses, but when you try to achieve what you can do with Deres using ProQ3, you need to consider the time loss for each channel. To cut the main resonances and their mathematical harmonics, you need to do calculations. Of course, when you select all bands in Fabfilter and play them at the same time, they will work relatively with each other, but every time you add a new Fabfilter to a channel, you must make a new calculation because the frequency of the harmonics will change.
To compensate for the frequency cut you create to cut the resonance, you had to open two more EQ bands. If we also bring in the harmonics and they need to be compensated, you will need to open six more bands in Fabfilter. I don't know about you, but is it worth the hassle? I think not. It's nothing but a waste of time. Another point is that every band you open will inevitably raise the intermodular distortion, and while trying to get rid of the harsh sound you're trying to eliminate by cleaning the resonance, you'll end up adding harshness to every other frequency outside that harsh sound. The reason I can clearly hear that harsh sound when you do an AB test is this.
There's a special reason behind the design of the "listen" button you use when searching for resonance sounds. In Fabfilter, when you solo a band while searching for resonance, it filters all nearby frequencies, which causes almost every sound you sweep for resonance to sound like resonance, misleading you. Listening to resonance in context and making it as loud as possible is a much more effective and efficient method because resonance is a buildup of sustain, and when you try to hear it by filtering, you can't be sure whether there is actually a buildup. In short, just as we use Fabfilter ProQ3 instead of Stock EQ (actually, you can do the same with Stock EQ as ProQ3 does), if you use Deres instead of ProQ3, you will achieve a much cleaner and more effective sound and get much more effective results against resonances.
Thanks again for your support for the plugin. Since you already bought it, hopefully it would be your go-to resonance fighter tool and hopefully make you revisit your video.
    Sincerely,
    Emrah Celik

Hey Emrah, thanks for your in depth reply.
on point one: i wil not respond on your comments with ''spent many years in engineering''. Look up my discogs page for a small snippet of where I worked on.
Yes DERES does add harmonics but I can just as easily make deres sound harsher than pro-q3 by simply offsetting which frequency in the high end I boost. Its not that hard. Just use your ears.
Point two: I mention Deres takes the guessing out of which frequency to remove. And yes very true - recreating the sound in pro-q3 takes more time. I can even state that starting with pro-q3 from scratch would take even more time and that's when you know exactly what to do. Deres does the 1 frequency dip with boost and makeup much, much faster.
I disagree again with harsh sound, its very subjective and differs from style to style. Its preferences. You can easily counter what you dont like by widening the q a bit and work on another frequency band which deres cant do at all.
On the listen function: You absolutely should add a dim function like i said in the video, it really is WAY too loud right now . I find the path you chose with adding the resonance on top of the excisting audio a good one, i do not understand why you chose not to simply lower the overall volume, what you have know is very user unfriendly and physically hurts my ears.
I will use deres, but I will not revisit my video. My points are clear and I hope you apply some of the suggestions I did in the video in a future update - it will make more customers happy I'm sure.

I value users' requests highly. I want to note that I will consider your suggestions and even have added them as notes. Thank you for the video. I hope that this video encourages everyone about Deres and they realize how much this $9 plugin but premium will actually benefit them. Cheers from lovely Sweden.

I apologize if this is not the appropriate place to add my comment, but I have respect for you both and my greetings to all who contribute to the development of this industry. I wasn't very impressed with first W.A Plugins, but man, this is one of the best plugins that have been released recently, and I really like it , and the way you are developing makes me wonder what you will do in the future. I don't see a real reason. Behind the suggestion that this plugin can be done using proq3, I believe that most if not all plugins of this type can also be done using eq or dynamic eq, but accuracy and saving time are more important than anything else. Greetings

@@stingerstark6518 Thank you for your wonderful feedback. Far from being disturbed, I read a heartwarming comment from you. I don't know about the issues people have had with WA Production in the past, but my experiences were quite positive while I was a WAP customer. Aside from everything else, WA Production is now part of a giant music software company like Image-Line, and they are quite solid in every respect. Perhaps in the past WAP had to work with external developers to make plugins, which not only required a large budget but also required the ability to maintain long-term relationships. But now, they can produce premium plugins over a proven, rock-solid Framework that they can use with confidence. Also, as someone who has dedicated 25 years to sound engineering, I can guarantee that all plugins bearing my signature are designed by a real sound engineer with billions of streams. Moreover, all new plugins coming out of WAP contain first-class coding and stability. You can use them with confidence because your investments will always be updated and maintain their quality. Cheers from Sweden.

Deres Is Actually Something Special Been Using The Trial since yesterday on a few mixes and it can help solve issues you can miss with an EQ it can help you work a little faster which can go a long way if you have a lot of songs to work on daily

Really works well for me, I had tried Soothe 2 on demo but on blind testing I always picked the bypassed state and so didn't buy it, Deres seems advanced to Soothe and I got it for £10, I think Soothe 2 is about £165, happy days.

Same, I grabbed it for the 10 bucks at intro price even though I’m a die hard Reso fan. Sometimes it’s good to have a few plan B plugins on the back burner for situations where the go-to’s might be falling short. Great video white noise!

Downloaded it to soften a vocoder effect that was slightly harsh. Not only did it remove the resonance the extra features like compensate made the sound even better than the original. For absolutely no money it's an absolute no-brainer. I already have the superb TDR Nova GE which will effectively do the same thing to remove the resonance but the simplicity and extra enhance tools makes it the obvious tool to try first. 😎

Well at the price it wouldn't be bad, but as you show an EQ can do the same while sounding better.
I don't have Fabfilter anything, but I bet my new SSL X-DynEQ could do similarly.
Side note, buy this deres as an effect, using the listen function on a modulator for the really cool sweep whistle.

    • @whitenoisestudio

That sweep is added on top of the normal audio level, that get's really loud - hence my request to add a level dim. You dont want to change levels all the time just to work around a quirk of a plugin IMHO.

it is a pity it works only on one frequency band, Soothe 2 has so many bands...the real competitor, useful as also a great Eq, for me is Sonible Smart Eq4 (or 3), for quality and price. What do you think about it, looking at other plugin as Dove, Reso, Sleek to compare ?

    • @whitenoisestudio
      @whitenoisestudio  2 месяца назад +3

Honestly, Soothe2 and the likes don't work as well on 1 extreme frequency, no matter how I tweak it. I noticed that too often with electric guitars.
A simple EQ notch or something like Deres works much better for that. For overall sound massaging, Soothe 2 and the likes work really well.

Great vid man! I JUST finished my DeRes vid. What a fascinating plugin. I agree that, of course, with considerable effort, one can kill resonances with other plugs. But I don't think I've heard something as clean as DeRes, and I also like how it's been focused into a Swiss Army knife of de-resonating! I've got a bit more testing to do on a full mix, but I'm really excited about it. Thanks for your video. Insta-subbed!
