- Fresh snowfall at the cabin creates a scenic backdrop for our daily tasks outdoors. This is our third winter living at our dry cabin. We keep things simple with a wood stove for heat, a small solar system to meet our energy needs, and an outdoor shower, which in turn allows us ample time to enjoy all that Alaska has to offer.

I think the thing I like best about you 2 is that you are a team. There are a lot of homesteading channels with couples, but there's always seems to be a division of labor. Male and female. But you guys always seem to work together on everything. It makes me want to have a similar relationship with a man. So, love you guys, and I can't wait till your next episode. Cheers from Southern Indiana!
I noticed that too! It’s great that you both respect each other enough to trust with all the work! I wish my husband would do that! 🙄
Well said! I've watched other Homesteading Channels as well. No one comes close to these two. They really are a team. I absolutely love when meals are made and Eric always seems to wanna give Arielle more..and makes her plate first. It's so sweet.
@Aida A No you're right, but they show a partnership that I've not seen on youtube with homesteaders
Ariel is truly a rare gem. Erics a supportive and trusting its a good combo.
@Aida A Probably...
What a fantastic compilation, enjoyed every minute.
BEE TIPS. If you listen to the bees, and hear them, just tap once into the side of the hive. If the noise increase and go down to normal in 2-3 seconds, the bees are OK. If the noise increase and stay at high level, either there is no food or the queen is missing.
Thank you!
If you tap once and hear two taps back, then you have other problems.
@@mariaslibeck9984 Somebody’s been having too much fun with the ouija boards I see, eh? 😂
@@mariaslibeck9984 But if you tap once and hear three taps back, call FBI immediately - there is either Putin or ISIS inside.

Hey guys, we’ve been watching your videos for a few months now and first of all we would like to say; thank you so much for enlightening our lives in this horrible Covid era.
We are very inspired on multiple levels; the way you are both so respectful and loving with each other, the amazing adventures but also the way you are dividing tasks so easily, it looks like a completely equal division beyond ‘common’ gender roles. One burning question from both of us is (maybe you could dedicate a video about it?): how do you plan your activities for the week/ day? Do you have a schedule or does everything evolve naturally?
Thanks again for both of yours pure and serene content, it really contributes to our well-being.
Silvia and Julia
Glad to see that the bee are still alive, you should try to estimate how much food they still have left.
An easy way is to measure the weight of each hive, just a short weight on the front and on the back, adhere both values and you have the total weight of the hive.
If you know the empty weight of the hive with empty frame you should ad the weight of the wax and the bee colony
As your using langstroth frames (deep) I would say that each frame has about 120 grams to of Wax, a healthy colony should weigh about a 1000grams this time of year..
so subtract the weight of the wax and the bees, then you have an educated guess of the weight of the rest of their food.
Don't be afraid to open the hive in Winter, the risk of starving is much greater than the risk of freezing.
love from Germany, Victor
Awesome you have that Honda powered snow blower. This has a far superior engine to just about anything out there. I used to have Briggs and Stratton, Kohler and Tecumseh powered tools, but when I got my first Honda lawn mower, it was like night and day. Now I have Honda powered everything...lawn mower, snow blower, generator, water pump, etc. Now I spend most of my time using the equipment, not repairing break downs..
Didn't know Honda made a lawn mower.
@@gufredd9675 Yeah...they have several models. Mine is a HRR216.
I tell my children about your life which I have been following to encourage them to live their dream and to do what they want /need to do now as who knows what the future holds particularly in these times. I'm in the UK and have worked as front line care through this. Your videos truly bring me joy. Thank you and here's to 2021 being a tad better for the most of us xx
❤
I always show my 16 yr old the videos, he wants to move to Alaska to become a brasscia farmer.
Hi there I hope everything is going good . Am from Pakistan living in United Arab Emirates Dubai . I watch all his video .before sleeping I turn off acc here 16c .and watch his work and video it’s really amazing . Now am planing the same to do ,because this is happy life
Why don't yall use a mask when clean the coop? I would be sneezing nose off.
Absolutely wear a mask when cleaning the coop. Between stirring up the hay/straw, the droppings and the dust, that's some nasty stuff to be inhaling.
Some people it don’t bother them any at all. It done bother me or my husband to clean their coop.
Coming from Sydney, Australia, I have absolutely no use for any of your toys - but I want them. While typing this comment I heard Ariel say she wanted to take advantage of this "really warm weather we've had". Seriously? She was totally surrounded by acres of snow! The last few days here have benn around 40c. That is warm weather!
LOL.
20C is warm, 30C is super warm. 40C is blisteringly hot. Greetings from a snowy Sweden.
I am from Penrith in Sydney and I agree, those 4 days of 45 degree Celsius last week killed me. That was warm weather. I ached for some cooler weather. Alaska is looking good.
It's all a matter of perspective. When you endure a two week long cold snap of -40F and it "warms" up to -20F, you go running around in a long sleeve shirt and talk about how warm it is. LOL True story.
I'm in Southern Qld and most of the Summer has been too cool up here with that last cyclone and rain (a god-send). 20-25C has me in two or three layers of clothing. Looking at all that snow over there made me think... damn, what a lot of extra work. Mind you, my kids are walking around in barely anything. How I long to move back to the tropical north.
@@sandrastacey2285 I feel your pain- Im in Perth- snow would be great
Love, Love, Love you guy's Channels, greetings from Switzerland🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭, Stay Safe🙏🙏🙏
This morning I cleaned under my chicken's roost bar. (I do deep litter method, so I only need to clean the coop twice a year and I have a few more months until that's on my to do list.) Whenever that chicken dust is getting stirred up, it's a good idea to throw on a mask. If you've ever blown your nose afterwards (and not worn a mask), then all that dust you see upon blowing is the stuff that was caught in your nose--the rest of it you inhaled further. Not good stuff to have in your lungs.
I agree 100%. When I saw the coop cleaning, my first thought was, "where's your mask?"
This reminds me of an episode of Bones
My thought exactly.
I have never seen a guy from.a village wearing a mask when cleaning a chicken house. All survived.
Lots of teenyweenies here
Thank you for another great video !
I liked the variety in camera shots/angles!! We appreciate the effort guys! All the best from Ontario :)
It's funny I've been watching your videos all morning and now this new one. You all do such a great job with your videos. I learn a lot. Like the ones that are simply a day in the life to. Always dreamed of living there.
They do such a great job. I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves just watching what people are up to.
"We exercised Bandit", are you sure Bandit didnt exercise his humans? Such a cool dog! 😍
Thanks for never getting political and just keeping it simple.. You have created an escape for me from this crazy world.
You guys are the best thanks.
Beautiful forest and snow, but honestly, I'm relieved every time you don't catch a hare, it's a terrible and painful death in that metal noose... Being shot instantly is a better way to go than being slowly strangled.
Hey guys… I just wanted to stop by and say hello… I’ve spent the past couple of hours with you catching up on some videos and re-watching others… I just wanted to let you know again how much I totally enjoy living vicariously through you! :-) Sending you both huge hugs as always!!!!❤️
Yep!
Bored stiff in the UK lockdown. Seen everything on TV and youtube. Very happy you published another video.
Do you watch Gone with the Wynns? Love it
I love this channel as well.... If you like this may I recommend you a a you tube channel it's called MEATEATER
@@gwenkaiser6836 You are quite the *Word Smith!*
Get off the sofa and take your country back, man. Are you just going to sit there and take it? You expect we're going to rescue you for a third time?

We really love how you did your woodshed with that natural cut siding!
Yes its very nice, maybe you could do the same on your horse barn.
I really appreciate how wholesome you two are and the harmony with each other. Keep up the good work!!!
The intro got me hyped! You two are living my dream for real. Love from Minnesota ❤
Instead of blowing smoke y'all are blowing snow, a much more productive endeavor 👍
What’s this suppose to mean?
not everything needs to be productive all of the time, you can do both. it just comes down to being responsible with your priorities. you can be productive and enjoy some natural herb to wind down.
Where did you get the fire starter wood splitter. That’s amazing !
Look in the description it may be there.
It's called a Kindling Cracker - they've linked it. They're sooo good, I've got one and absolutely love mine. They were designed by a young girl who's mother was injured chopping kindling so she figured out a safer way to cut it.
@@GodessSiri Wow what a clever girl to design that.
You guys are awesome 😎. Love how you live and teaching the way u live in Alaska.
You have give me so many ideas to help my son who moved off grid at the start of COVID-19,
I can’t thank you enough for what you are doing . 🙏🏻.
Bless you both .🌈
You edit (and film) so well! Your timing is excellent. I think I’ve watched videos where there was one scene of bread kneading that lasted 15 minutes. Your short videos are mini documentaries, love everything including the bloopers. Thank you!
I am of two minds about removing the snow around your trees, yes it should slow down the voles, but it seems to me your taking a chance at the roots freezing with out the insulating snow layer. It'll be interesting to hear what others think
Yes, some snow works as insulation. So...
We always add insulating organic material and keep the snow there, too. I know their neighborhood and will be quite surprised if their fruit trees survive.
I think leaving the snow is less of a chance for the frost to get down and freeze the roots
Better to leave the snow around the bottom of the trees to insulate the roots, also could put straw around the base.
I use to love our outdoor shower, matter a fact i miss it. The best is showering on a cold winter night when all the stars are out. We used a solar bag 5 gal one. We just heated water on the wood stove and filled that. Like you, our 5 gal bag did both of us. I know one day we will have one again...showering inside, just isn't the same.
So so pretty the view from the drone in the beginning of your video. 💖
I can't convince my g/f to go camping and barely can get her to leave the house to go for a walk let alone what you guys do. I envy you, sir. Glad to see you two are enjoying your lives together.
A new gf might be needed lol. Perhaps just start going by yourself, she'll follow your lead soon enough.
You have such a wholesome life, working together, living off the land and caring for it. Hard work but seems really satisfying. The best thing is you both look like you’re in your element and enjoy it. And, all the gorgeous scenery is healing to behold.
I'm always amazed how entertained I am at watching you two do chores. You guys are so cool.
I like that kindling splitter!
You guys are becoming one of my favorite programs you are both young and smart and I love your wife’s attitude she’s always in a good mood and complains about nothing.
It’s fun to watch because I live off the grid in the wilderness by myself. My husband is in another state and will join me at some point but it is funny how people don’t realize how much hard work is involved in living in the wilderness whether you have tons of rain like where I am or snow like where you are. We do get a bit of snow but not much. Thanks for providing this excellent content.
You should show us your computer system that you edit these, your editing skills get better with every video. Let us know how you get the videos to the internet. Do you have a connection in the cabin?
A very simple setup, HP laptop, Movie Studio 17 is the editing program we use and internet is provided by our cell phones mobile hotspot :)

Thank you, i have recently recovered from Covid and watched so many of your videos during my isolation. Today when i went to my local organic market they had Moose burgers, i bought one, it was almost $10. I thought of all the Moose meat you have and figured it would be worth a few thousand.
@@SimpleLivingAlaska so evidently you have better cell service in Alaska than we do in central Virginia. I have one bar right now...😐...and that's Verizon.
So Alaska has snow in the winter and bugs in the summer. You two are very lucky you have each other.
While I like being early, I miss reading comments because there aren't many yet.
I feel this 🤣🤣
Come back to read more!
I've found if I leave a tab open on a vid and switch back and forwards from Top Comments to Newest, the comments section updates. PC only I'm guessing that works on; my phone's for calls and texts. I'm old :(
I was complaining earlier bc we are expecting a foot of snow ❄ on Sunday. A foot to an Alaskan is nothing and they'd LOL at us..ha ha. It's crazy bc they announce snow and everyone flocks to the grocery store and buy up all the bread. Milk and eggs. Why? I'm guessing everyone wants French toast 🤔? Just teasing. Arielle would have the bread made ahead of time..eggs from the chickens and Kiefer already made! Love from Middletown Delaware
Need a love button. The drone footage is stunning
Indeed!
a wonderfull world!
Ariel, do you have a grandmother...? Usually, a man will ask a woman who is marvelous "do you have a sister", but I'm 71, so....
You're too cute.....lol...
Always ecstatic when you post! I'm canadian, but I'm always amazed at how much snow you have to move around!
I really like that kindle splitter, I haven't seen anything like that before
Those pictures with the drone were especially beautiful...so picturesque everywhere you look ❤️
It's a 31 minute video, and 2 minutes in, there's a dislike. Haters, gosh. So weird.
Not even a comment as to why. I would love to know how anyone could dislike any of their videos. Unless they stumbled here looking for riveting and insightful content from the kardashians 👀
I love watching you guys, my family and i would love to visit Alaska one day
I was hoping you guys have put up a new video so I could watch it while I do dishes and clean and bam here it is! Keep the fantastic content coming!! Addicted from Ohio.
Excellent video, you do some real work between you, well done.
I think one of the smartest things you guys have done is the covered wood shed. It is so nice to see you guys get wood without having to beat snow off it before splitting. Smart move.
If you EVER need someone to stay at that cabin in the middle of nowhere I'm your man. I'd do it for free too. Any season.
Little tip. When you use the pull starter on the blower let it gently retract. Cold plastic is much more likely to break and when the handle breaks the rope could get pulled inside
Good on ya, Jeffrey, also don't pull the rope all the way out. You can break the rope at the knot.
Are you going to try to build another root cellar?
A plastic shower curtain would keep the heat inside till you're done.
Could you tell us what the shower sprayer is called. I truly need this as my water pipes are broken right now and can't fix till spring. Thank you
The link is in the description :)
OMG!!! It looks like y'all have soooo much friggen fun! We love watching your adventures! Once we are done converting our school bus to a Skoolie, it would be fun to go cruise up to Alaska and experience the beautiful countryside! Keep having fun, y'all!

Looks like your wood shed is a success this winter.
Thanks guys for a peek into your life. I'm a long time subscriber so I guess that you're why the algorithm is sending so many volgs from the far north. But they are all from Sweden 😄. Blessings from New Orleans.
Boy your photography is getting soooo good!! Love the drone footage and the birds closeups.
Also it nice to see more of the dogs. They looked soo cute and happy!
Loved the drone footage as always. Absolutely beautiful. We might pick up one of those rechargeable shower heads. Would be real handy for a quick porch shower. Going to take down our outdoor shower soon to put deck posts in. Great to hear that your bees are still doing well.
I've been expecting to see that new gate appear across your driveway. I read there's a lot of crime in Alaska, and I hope you aren't being bothered by strangers or even well-intentioned fans who have found your channel here. Stay safe!
Your life seems so peaceful, especially in the current times. Thank you for sharing it with us ❤️
👋🏼 love the music you all pick each time
Glad to see the shower head is working for you. 👍
Glad to see the kindling splitter has worked out. Many thanks for showing it.
I love mine so much. 20-30 minutes of fun work and I have a huge sack full of kindling.
THAT THING IS TRICK. WHERE CAN I GET ONE?
@@medic001465 it's called a Kindling Cracker. If you google it then their site comes up and will tell you who stocks them in your area or you can go through their Ebay
Y'all really need to just get some welding gloves. Cheap stick gloves will do just fine. You can just reach in and grab logs and coals and turn them/manipulate them easy peasy.
This is seriously one of your best. Don’t get me wrong. I love how busy and hard-working you guys are. And the informative videos are great. But this episode had such a nice balance of scenery & info. Thanks.
I’ve been watching you guys for awhile now and I just want to say, Eric has really pushed me to do more on my own. Like doing the maintenance on my truck, home, and starting to grow my own vegetables. To me, Eric is the type of guy that is good at everything! I love your guys’ content and I hope you guys are staying safe!
What's the intro music? Loving it :)
Glad the bees are still alive. That’s a lot of snow.
That snow blower and 6x have become work horses... The food always looks delicious.😊 That wood splitting tool looks cool.👍 The bees will make it..!! 🙏❤️
The intro and those b-roll things, I love them. Even those shots of simple things like birds doing their own stuff, time-lapse of moon and sky, dogs,... .
Wish you luck and joy. Keep up the good work.
Love love love your videos. They allow me to escape the city without having to leave it. Hope to visit Alaska soon. Keep up the great work!
Can you guys make a permanent indoor growing stand? like microgreens/ sprouts instead of just ur seed starters? thanks for the long video again!
Love this! Especially the beautiful views and music compilation. I have been watching your channel for over a year now and really enjoy learning about how to live a self sufficient life. You both are such great teachers. You two have inspired our family to get outside and enjoy where we live. Snow shoeing and winter hiking treks in the mountains are our new adventures. We are looking forward to every next video.😊
I really enjoy the music you guys incorporate into the videos. Really sets a great mood. Beautiful drone footage!
EEEEEEEE! I'm so glad you got a Kindling Cracker. I suggested it a few months ago as you need so much kindling and it's so much safer and easier. And they're kinda fun to use and make a nice ringing noise.
A lovely watch with a cuppa coffee. Your mention of the outpost cabin now has me jonesing for more cabin vids, lol. Will the stove be installed on the next video? Will the footprint of that cabin stay the same? If you were to build an extension on that cabin when would be the best time to move materials, in summer with a barge boat towed behind yours? A screen porch sounds nice on that cabin but not feasible at all because of the bears I don't guess. We have black bears in Ky and they will go through one inch siding on a shed it there is something of interest inside. Does that area also have grizzlies?
Beautiful video as always! The music and the drone work is like a love letter to winter in Alaska. Well done.
Wow. If this is "simple living", I'd hate to see complicated living. Lol
You guys are truly amazing!!. You really inspired me to start canning. I have always wanted to do it.
Awesome music video! Making the ordinary extraordinary.
Awesome video I love how you guys work together on everything I wish I had that here but I love your videos showing how y'all survive out in that cold place especially with taking the showers outside when it's so cold but y'all are young & spirited which is a big plus. Y'all are doing the things I wish I could have done when I was your age but I'm older now and that dream has gone but love watching y'all doing your daily chores so keep up the good work guys and much love from North Carolina ❤️
Lol so funny I was telling many people about pemcian yesterday
i always enjoy ur vids
ur world of ice snow in Alaska is such a foreign destination to me. I live in Australia in the hottest state and have never seen snow let alone the thought of living with the trials and tribulations that u guys face
Nifty splitter 😍 and I have to say as I was watching all of the sudden it was like a very high quality movie (I grabbed my phone and rewound to see it again) Wow that is awesome .. Exelent filming /Editing just beautiful ... It's interesting to think sometimes how we have become slaves to employers and not to our own survival in the way we meant to (it's a lot of work but it's for you 😍)
Well said n I agree!!
Just love these long videos! Can't get enough of life with you! Thanks ! You are great!
Love the dub step intro music!
melt chocolate and dip those balls in it. also have you ever mixed maple syrup and vanilla extract together? its pretty amazing with hot chocolate and heavy cream. I say this as you can make a nice hot drink for the trip coffee mixes well with that also for a little boost. My morning coffee is homemade vanilla maple syrup and heavy cream
Yum.😁

Keep up the great vids guys , they're awesome .
G'day from Melbourne Australia 👍
The birds, and sounds and sights were gorgeous.
Such beautiful scenes 😍😍 I'm jealous of the snow! We had one dump of it like 3 weeks ago. Haven't gotten much since. It's a weird winter.
Wow, love the intro!
Hi guys. It is also cold today here (-4 F. in Mtl). I would not be able to go out like Ariel with only a blue coat. She is made for the cold. Good receipe. Keep the good work !!!
I cannot imagine the misery and horror of an outdoor shower in an Alaskan winter! Coming from sub-tropical Africa I'm frozen solid on a cold winter's day at 18C.
People adapt.I live up here in finland and +25c or more is painful for me. today it was -10c and sunny. lovely winter weather. It takes about 2 weeks every year for my body to switch from +weather to -temperatures.18-20c is perfect for me in the summer.
They lost me at "our shower is outside" 🤣🤣 hell no!
I always enjoy your videos. Thank you Arielle and Erick. You are both awesome!
This was a really good one! I especially enjoyed the nature montages you used as cuts between subjects. Keep it up! You guys are super mpressive and inspiring!
Really enjoying your videos!
ugh i love cabins 🥺🤎 & first ;)
**Money generating idea for y’all: At around 6:32 in the video, you were scraping snow off the high tunnel while the camera watched from inside. The sounds and the view was lovely. You could make an ASMR, longer video of this and see how many views you’d generate. I’d recommend a nice steady rhythm with the scraping strokes. 👍
Me too...I loved the video shots from the different points of view. It was almost 3-D when Eric got close to the camera with the snow plow. I almost moved my head to the side for a minute.....great stuff Eric and Arielle. ❤
Trees are gorgeous! Some look like snowflakes.
Since you guys have chickens I was wondering about how many eggs you eat each week - I. also have chickens and eat about 2 each day but wonder if that is too many - thanks for your response - Joe
