  • We're back out at our cabin in the woods, this time we come armed with snowshoes and a chainsaw to focus our efforts on removing dead standing trees near the cabin. After splitting wood, we have spare time to explore the new property. As always we are grateful for another trip to the cabin accompanied by wonderful food and our loyal pups. Wintertime in Alaska never fails to present incredible opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy life!

The starting over second place just melts my heart. I want out of the rat race so badly. I'm a grown ass man just crying a tiny bit over what you have. Not jealously just happiness for what you two have made together.

I miss what these two have. Nine years in Montauk, commercial fishing. It's wonderful watching them. If you can, just go and make it happen for yourself on some level. I'm now in Central NY, my house high up overlooking city but I have wilderness behind me. It's as rustic that I can manage and I love it. So on some level, roughing it some is possible.

maybe if your lucky and try hard, you can step away from "the rat race" without going anywhere. Reduce the MEDIA first of all.
I am a Christian but the "rat race" steals to much time away from my God, its hard. I always need help. I am also a "grown ass man" i shed tears as well, makes me smile most of the time. Observing this Family is like walking around with a bag of onions around your neck. All for the Joy.

I have never seen a couple that works so well together. You two clearly show that it doesn't have to be her job or his, you do them together. I'm amazed at how strong Arielle is for her size. I really love watching your videos, I find your building projects creative and intriguing. Your cooking and gardening videos are equally educational and informative, and the food always looks yummy. I feel the love that you two have for each other and your animals. Thank you for showing the world what true love and respect looks like. Blessings.....💞💐🙏🏾

When you felled the big tree (27:38), Eric, you did it so cleanly, I had to show it to my mother. Her father (my grandfather) worked in the timber industry out on the Washington coast, and we both agree Grandpa would've been proud of how well you did. I then showed it to my father, and he said that he as a landscaper (almost 20 years pruning & felling experience) was proud of how perfectly you placed that tree. AND he said that his brother, having worked for Puget Power (the big power company for the county around Seattle) helping fell trees to clear power lines for decades before his own retirement long ago, also would've been proud of you. So that's five big thumbs-up from my family, three of 'em professional thumbs!

Arielle the end of the video almost brought me to tears. I've watched you both for so long, all the way back in Oregon, such a journey. I have 4 favorite channels; Simple Living Alaska, The Nomadic Movement, Eamon and Beck, Hannah Duggan. Every one of them started with Van life (except SLA) and now have old beautiful cabins they're turning into their happy place. Hannah is out in her van now, running from the cold 😆.
I so wish I would have been more adventurous. My health won't allow it now, who am I kidding my health wouldn't have allowed it then. I really suck at having a body. I live vicariously through each one of you.
Truly you both are my favorite couple, I admire how hard you both work. I would say enjoy it you two but you both are enjoying it. It's present in everything you do and that joy is contagious. So if joy is the only thing I catch in 2021 I would be very lucky. Thank you, sending all the good vibes💚

Imagine being able to look back at these videos one day and seeing how far you've come! You two are building something beautiful that I truly hope continues to bless you! Your videos have been a wonderful blessing to me. I've always wanted to live the way you do, in the environment you do. Since childhood, my fondest memories were in my grandfather's cabin, tucked away by a lake. I'm disabled now, so the physical nature of that lifestyle is off the table for me. When your videos come up, especially the longer format ones, I get excited! Excited to see the progress, the growth, and of course, the beauty of Alaska! Thank you.

A couple thoughts after watching this vid: 1) I can see some steps being built into that hill sooner rather than later! 2) I can't believe how many people out there worry about chickens (chickens are tough birds!) 3) Great score on the cast iron (they are in fantastic condition, wow!) 4) Chopping firewood is such a pleasure when the wood is really dry (that "snap" is sooo satisfying!) 5) The hiss and glow of a Coleman lantern is etched in my memory forever. 6) I love eating potatoes too... but I gotta have ketchup on 'em (I know, sorry) .... :-) another great vid, thanks!

Ketchup for me too, but have to admit after hearing that the rose hip mixture(s?) taste like ketchup, I'd actually try that...and I haven't been adventurous with food, as a rule.
