  • Another trip to Byers Lake Cabin does not disappoint. We cut, haul and split firewood and set our fishing lines with hopes of Burbot. With the wood stove burning hot and our bellies full, life is good in Alaska.

Enjoyed your post! I appreciate how well you take care of your senior canine family member! I’m sure he appreciates the extra care you give to him on these cold adventures. Being a retired senior myself, I can attest that the cold is more of a bother than it was 40 years ago when I worked on the North Slope. Nowadays I much prefer to enjoy the beautiful snowy vistas from the warm side of a cabin window with a mug of something warm in my hands. Thanks again for sharing your lives with us. Impressed that you guys leave the cabin so much better than you found it. I always thought you should leave firewood for the next person and get a fire ready to go in the fireplace/woodstove in case someone shows up and needs a fire quickly.

Spent 11 years in the Canadian arctic and had two kids while we were up there.
You are triggering such good memories.
I will say that hardship and challenges bring a couple closer.
When we moved south everything got easier except our relationship.
When we weren’t working hard just to keep afloat somehow we drifted.
I’m not wanting to cause fear.
Just hoping that you two keep each other as the main focus.
    Loving the videos.
Loving your commitment to each other.

I really love watching your videos! I wish I could get outdoors as often as you guys. I’ve turned everyone I know onto your channel as I believe it’s the best one out there. Even my 8 year old daughter will stop watching Roblocks (sp?) videos to watch you guys. My mom recently expressed interest into canning again so I gave her back all her canning stuff and referred her here. Love you guys, just wished you posted daily! I know that’s not possible but my favorite days are when you post. Love from Utah!

#1 Rule: Always replace whatever firewood you burn with MORE firewood. The ONLY times you should be considered free of this obligation is when you're alone and you personally cannot chop wood, such as physical injury, disability, or lack of cutting tools...but even then, if you're mobile you should still try to find deadwood branches & pile those up in a dry area nearby. Measly branches for kindling are still better than no fuel for the fire at all! Even if you don't think you'll ever come back, you should do it, because circumstances might force you back there, OR you literally might save someone else's life because THEY will have enough fuel to get & keep warm if things went bad for them instead!

Good to see you having fun! The temperature reminds me after getting married, we went to Harbin China for the Snow and Ice festival, must to do on anyone's bucket list! Their kick off is ~ February 1st opening.
Temps were between-20 to -40c' . We played on the Song river and didn't realize how cold it was, until going inside for a bailey and cream.
    Enjoy watching Alaska.

Crazy that they even burned the cupboard doors! Its so awesome to see the different fish species in Alaska. And its good to see that grown ups aren't ashamed to play cards, board games and puzzles. I too love alaska Arielle... I think you and Eric are a true alaskan spirit even thou the time here has been short, you have accomplished more than myself as I came to work and did. I have stayed here permanently since spring of 84 and should of came back in 71 as I worked here that year prior and would of made all my dreams come true. I am so proud of the two of you, no smoking, drinking, lewd behavior or bad foul language... its the way it should be. Took me a long time to grow up and respect what I do or had as I wasted millions of dollars trying to find what I really wanted... two dogs that loved me and a cabin paid for I made myself. Thats all I really needed
