I'm turning 70 and live alone, wondering how I can manage some of the stuff I face. Seeing what hard workers you guys are gives me an attitude of rolling up my sleeves and giving it my best go. 💪
I believe in you! Never be afraid to ask for some help as well - we can all use it. Rolling up our sleeves and getting dirty is the best way we can make progress - to learn and to make mistakes, it's all part of the process. Good luck to you, I'm rooting for you!
Fifty-five years of life in Alaska taught me many things & one of the most important is……don’t be deceived by those warm February temps. I saw it happen many times. U can be assured that March & even April can kick your butts weather wise…….winter is not over. Good luck with the snow blowing & the “dognuts” looked delicious!!
@@jdaly5822 You're the one who mentioned it, usually more subs means less genuine and quality content so be glad these guys are still putting out quality content and not worry about sub count and maintaining revenue.
That race was crazy fun! PS Don't forget, to consider, putting snow on the soil in the high tunnel. When it melts, may save a lot of time and effort getting your soil wet for planting. Remembered you 'complained' about the dryness last year.
Just be careful! You said your snow is heavy ... indicating it contains a lot of water. From your time in California we are always worried about getting enough water-filled snow. Test out a bucket full, let it melt and see how much water it contains. You don't want to have a sloshy, muddy mess let alone a flood!!
That snow reminds of here in Northern Michigan. The wet, heavy stuff is miserable; we call it "greasy". That snow is tough to drive in, shovel, blow, and a huge hazard on roofs. Also needs to be completely removed from vehicles so they don't fly off in sheets and shatter windshields. Respect for all your hard work.
Another Michigander here, I agree completely! This is also a reason why we use tarps to cover everything stored in our shed, hard to keep that blowing snow out
This video had almost everything you guys see and do in winter (except for ice fishing) all in one video -- enjoying snow-covered trees, taking care of the chickens, baking, cooking, eating, snow removal, tool maintenance, and outdoor excursions (the snow machine race). I love how you guys are always so willing to eat outdoors in winter. And I love when Ariel wears her hair like that with the headband. She looks like a cute little mouse!
Winter forest - booming, like shots, croaking crows, snow from a spruce branch that fell by the collar, tracks in which the bottom is not visible, steam from wet mittens and parallel, now and then intersecting curves of ski tracks; spring forest - the smell of black, still frozen earth, flowing in all directions, choking with melt water, a stream, a thin white strip of skin blue from the cold between a sweater and jeans, and on it large pimples that can only be melted with lips; summer forest - hot drops of golden resin on copper bark, hair smelling of barbecue smoke, a white, daisy-covered sundress stained with dry red wine and a tickling pine needle that you can’t get at all if you don’t unbutton two thousand small, like ladybugs, buttons , rapidly spreading under the fingers along the back and chest.
Hey guys. I saw you refill those small Coleman canisters with LPG from a bigger bottle. That is extremely dangerous as you have no idea if you're over pressurise that small canister. If it was to explode due to over pressurisation you would loose your hands or it could be fatal. To do a refill like that you'd need a regulator to slow the flow down, and a gauge on both the bigger bottle and smaller bottle so you know what pressure if coming out of the main tank and what pressure you're putting into the small one. I work I high pressure gas pipelines and wouldn't want to see you guys come unstuck with that sort of stuff. Stay safe and keep up the epic videos 😁
The bigger tanks all have safety valves it will not over pressurize a 1 pound bottle. A 1 pound has the same amount of pressure released as a bigger tank and has a pressure relief valve.
Sounds like the snow in Wisconsin. That snow is tough to work with. Glad that the two of you showed us the Iron Dog race. Reminds me that Iditarod officially starts on March 6th. Shoveling a path to the outhouse; another reason for modern indoor plumbing!
Great video, and you folks are amazing. From removing snow to filling propane tanks, making donuts, and breakfast tacos that made my mouth water. Thanks for sharing.
Thank y’all for taking us along and showing us Alaskan fun and always smiling and always positive, y’all are the greatest. Much love to all and freedom for all humanity!
Really not sure how I had stumbled across your channel over a year ago now but I’m so happy I did. It’s an extremely “odd concept”, the one-sided relationship that You-Tube has created here between us 😂. I feel as though you share so graciously. My name is Christine, I live in a pretty standard 1930’s home with my pup. I’m a consultant with a goal of minimalizing my lifestyle at 55. I used to enjoy the snow and I believed our winters were brutal here in Ohio (😂) until I started watching ya’ll. Thank you for showing up for us every week and inspiring us to get outside. Cheers!
There are so many reasons why I love you two. But the first is that when I watch your videos is how much my old dad would have loved them. I wish he was here to watch. He is Eric. My mom is 1/2 Ariel. Needless to say, you both make me happy. Shoveling all that snow, not so much. ❤️
Your lifestyle is what I would choose if I could it all again. I'll be 73 years old next month and can say from experience that you are truly living the American dream.
You guys work so hard, I love watching you doing all your maintenance you are amazing with everything you are able to fix, y’all also have the sharpest knives always great job. It’s so cool seeing all the fun things that y’all find to do. Those doughnuts looked delicious. Love y’all!
Quick tip… after you refill the green one pounders, cap them. They do have a tendency to leak propane after a couple uses. Been refilling them for years! There are brass threaded caps that fit perfectly. We have also used 3/4” threaded pvc schedule 40 FPT Caps with excellent results.
Thank you so much for sharing the race with us. I've heard about this race but never seen it before & I enjoyed it so much & so did my pitbull. Rufus loves watching anything that goes fast!
I’ve heard about these races for decades, but could never really envision them. Thanks to you guys, I feel as though I’ve actually been there, minus the actual cold.
This is the life indeed. I'll be visiting Alaska next summer and I already feel like I'll be making plans to move there shortly after that. We've got a channel where I'm beginning to document things as we lead up to the trip - please check it out if you get a chance. All the best!
That look's like my place in Winnipeg Manitoba. Most snow i've seen here in 25 years. They told everyone to get their ice fishing shack's off of the Red River and into Lake Winnipeg as they are going to start cutting the ice to break it up to allow for better flow. And they use a machine called an Amphibex it is a strange looking unit. It has almost like backhoe arms with big floats on each one. One on each side. With a huge saw on the front. It kind of looks like a crab..
The joys of Canadian 🇨🇦living. Only Alaskans really know our struggle. They’re more Canadian than American🤷🏼♀️. Only 6-8 more weeks left of this crap. That groundhog better come through this year! 😂

My Boss has ridden the race several times in the last few years, you're right about the suspenion parts. I've built several parts to keep lower A frames from ripping the chassis apart, you can change the A frames but if the mounts are gone, your finished.
I just love how you pronounce Husqvarna. If you search for Huskvarna Sweden, you will find the city. Thank you for letting us follow you on your journey through life and see this fantastic nature, animals and everything else ❤
That wet snow is also called "Heart Attack Snow" as it takes more effort to get rid of it and increases the risk of a heart attack, please be careful with it guys, great video as always!
The snow is really beautiful but a lot of work. Think spring. It will be here before you know it. Keep the videos coming. Love going along with the two of you. Thanks for sharing. Take care. Hugs and kisses to the pets. ❤️
Spring is coming fast Charlene! The time change is the big one I look forward to. Hoping to get lots of foraging and camping in on our channel, check it out if you get a chance. All the best.
I have never anyone say Kotzebue like that. It made me chuckle a little. Thanks for the iron dog bits. I have never gone down there to see them go by. Maybe next year.
Hey just what I needed. It’s real good to see you again enjoying life in Alaska. Yes. I am your faithful RUclips admirer, just love so much all you share with all of us. including your beautiful rooster. Missed Bo and Bandit. Too crazy and risky for them when all this racing is taking place… Hard work getting to deal with the heavy snow and wind storm you had. Oh well, that’s part of Alaska you enjoy so much. Keep safe. I love seeing and hearing your voices, you’ve become part of my family. Thank you🥰💕
We just got another snow too (in the Hudson Valley - much milder climate!). I was grouchy about it until I saw this. I have gratitude - thank you for the perspective shift!
I love that you guys make donuts after a hard day of working. Special things like that are a must for couples and make the days just a little nicer 🥰🥰 in my humble opinion.
Your snow removal videos are so satisfying to watch! Great job you too LOL I live in a cold snowy climate as well so I feel your pain when removing heavy wet snow. Keep up the great work!
I'm so loving your channel!!! It's the only one I allow to notify me when you upload videos. My hubby's dream and mine is to live in Alaska in a few years!
18:00 good solution, you can also use HEET! I put some of the red bottle in every tank that I fill in Palmer. Great video as always, that was some fun wet heavy heavy snow! My plow truck was struggling with it last weekend:)
OMG - the Iron Dog is so cool. Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone that is on your channel. You guys do such amazing things to entertain yourselves - I love this.
Love your spirit and determination. You two are awesome!!! I am an old gal but have learned so much from you both. You give me hope for the future of our nation! Be well.
Wow! Y’all do so much work & that’s not even including your channel!! Much dedication & respect for all the work you put in keeping us updated, no matter what!!! So exciting to see you relaxing & having some fun! And that breakfast looked amazing!! I’ll bet everyone loved & got pretty hungry smelling it. Y’all always make us feel like we could be there with you on your videos. Thank you so much for sharing with us all!!! Take care (as you do). God bless you & yours. 🙏🏻💞🙏🏻❤❤❤
Agree Elisabeth, always fun on this channel. I've started my own channel and it's tough work! I really enjoy brining fun moments to life for others to enjoy in as well. Hope you'll check it out if you have a chance. take care!
Beautiful snow scene! I say that as I’m enjoying our 65 degree day in the South. The “snownuts” looked scrumptious! Y’all deserve a treat after all that hard work. Love you guys! Take care and God bless. ❤️
The two of you are constantly working. But your homestead is gorgeous. You have accomplished so much since you moved to Alaska. I wish I were young again like the two of you. Great job! Forgot to ask, do the two of you have a cookbook out?
No and they said they were not going to do a cookbook because they’re always changing up how much ingredients or what products they are using that day and couldn’t possibly put in all the alterations in a cookbook. Hope that answers your questions.
So interesting to see the different type of snow. We rarely get snow in my part of the UK, but when we do it comes like this, wet, heavy and drifting. I had never really thought that your usual snow is different, I always assumed it was the stuff I was familiar with.
My experience is that they can't be overfilled if the air is not vented when filling. Actually, the one lb bottle won't even be full if the air is not purged when filling. I always use a scale and pull the pin (not push) on the schrader(?) valve to vent the trapped air. It's not easy since the pin is not easy to get to when coupled to the 20 lb er. 13 oz or less is all the liquid I can fill to unless I vent the air. If pulling the pin on the schrader valve to completely fill to 15-16 oz, be sure to listen carefully for any leakage around pin when released.
the heavy snow this year and the below zero temps are more typical of an Alaskan winter. We use to get a lot more snow some years up to 12 ft. in the mountains. the last 10 years have been fairly easy. The wind has been a nightmare that is new in the last few years. The winter rains diffidently causes a mess. We will see what breakup brings. I love your videos I really like when Eric puts the time temp and daylight hours up.
At 23:23 I see a very nice covered sled, Snowcoach MPV for Bo and Bandit. And actually large enuf for the four of you, as a 'just in case' if you were to break down and needed to get outa the weather. Thought about what you two were doing when I changed my calendar, . and you were shoveling loads of snow. Thanks)
Always get excited when I see a new video for you two! Plus I ALWAYS hit the like button BEFORE seeing the video! No matter what I KNOW its gonna be a great video..I adore you two...you are such hard working ppl..i think youll be at 1 million subs in no time..already 560k ish, is amazing! ❤️ from Delaware
Another great video. I had to laugh a couple of times when you were both cleaning up the snow, at the 9:24 mark when Eric let out the sigh, as here on our homestead in upstate New York cleaning up after a storm is a constant chore in winter. I have let out many a sigh this year. I also had to chuckle at the 9:31 mark when Arielle found herself suddenly unintentionally sitting in the snow because it was so deep. I have done that more than once this winter, and face planted in the snow a few times. I laughed in solidarity, and because I too often say "Okaaaay" when it happens. I take so much delight in watching you both homesteading in Alaska, as we homestead here in our own frozen north (if not quite so frozen), often wondering when we have challenging weather here, what you are dealing with there. The work never ends on a homestead. But by showing the snowmobile races, and the ice fishing, etc. you show that although there is a lot of hard work in the life you have chosen, there is still much joy. Like you, I feel it is, in all its challenges and joys, the best life to live. As always, I look forward to the next videos.
Snow removal supervisor Bo is on the job! Love that dog. What about the bees in drifts??? Hope they are okay. Send any extra snow to New Hampshire please, we are way under for the winter.
Last I heard, 90% of the world's sea planes (which includes most bush planes in Alaska) are serviced by Kenmore Air, which is based down here in western Washington State, not far from Seattle. They have a lot of parts for swapping out wheels for runways, pontoons for lakes, and skis for snowfields, but they also have hybrid versions, pontoons with wheels, pontoons sturdy enough to be skis (ice in snow can scratch rather badly at a summertime pontoon). My family has been answering their misdials (our phone number looks like theirs) for over 40 years now, so I gave up and learned a bit about the company, and about sea plans and bush planes in general. NOT an expert on either those or the company, but they're good folks, and are justifiably proud of their pilots' abilities in snowfields, on glaciers, etc. One particular contract they had in the early 2000s was to fly in & out on supply runs for a high-altitude research station on a glacier, where the only way to land on such a short runway was to do so uphill so gravity stopped the plane in time, then turn it carefully around on the small flat spot on top, and fly out fast enough downhill to achieve lift on the first try. Zero problems, each & every time. That takes dedication to pre-flight checks, weather observations, & nerves of steel. Bush pilots tend to be highly underrated in their skills & abilities, because we often underestimate the conditions in which they have to take off & land. It's not the same as fighter jet piloting, no, but it can be difficult, even dangerous, and takes no less skill & ability to fly successfully, especially in winter. The folks I met at Kenmore Air in the early 2000s (I asked for a tour of their main shop, after having politely answered their misdials for 20+ years at that point, and they happily agreed) were absolutely dedicated to making their planes & repair jobs the safest and sturdiest possible, with palpable respect for the overall skills of the bush pilot community. ...I'm posting this because I know a lot of people don't understand just how tough & dangerous bush piloting can be, but also because we don't hear about the millions of safely flown & landed flights; we only hear about the tragedies. The folks who fly the supplies out to these remote villages Arielle mentioned are contending with bad weather, freezing temperatures, uncertain landing surfaces, abrupt sheer winds, and life-threatening conditions if they have to make an emergency landing for any reason. Support efforts & support personnel are absolutely vital on races like this, and I just think the pilots doing their share deserve some love & appreciation for a few moments. Also, big thanks to the remote communities who turn out to support the racers, including support shown in terms of food & lodging, repair assistance, fuel, and more. And of course, big thanks to the people who come out to cheer on these racers in the midst of thousands of miles of winter. Knowing that their efforts & skills are seen, that they're bringing excitement and entertainment to so many others, is what drives a lot of these folks to compete, even knowing they might not ever take first place.
Thankyou for this snippet from another side of life. I think most folks would go for a number-change - but your family has stayed the course, with courtesy. Big ups for that. And you're right about the skills of pilots working in remote areas!
I live in Canada! Today we’re shovelling snow off the roof again for hundredth time this season. We still have power so that’s something to be thankful for. We have snowstorms all the time. Yup that’s living in bush country. Do you guys use chains on your snowblower? It really does make a huge difference.
That looks like a Honda 928 that is tracked. What's nice about it is you can make it float 1 in above the surface if you want if you've got gravel so it doesn't chuck it 150 ft. I have the same one and it's an animal.

Hello be careful with the propane tanks you’re only supposed to fill them to 80% to allow room for expansion.

Spring is coming fast Charlene! The time change is the big one I look forward to. Hoping to get lots of foraging and camping in on our channel, check it out if you get a chance. All the best.
I love watching your daily life. So inspiring❤
If you had the chance to do what they do, every day, would you take that leap? just curious.
@@one567 yes
I have never anyone say Kotzebue like that. It made me chuckle a little.
Thanks for the iron dog bits. I have never gone down there to see them go by. Maybe next year.
I'm fm there (well, younger yrs lived there)
Yikes that snow! The chickens always make me smile😊First time hearing of that race, very exciting stuff as well as the skill it must take!
Hey just what I needed. It’s real good to see you again enjoying life in Alaska. Yes. I am your faithful RUclips admirer, just love so much all you share with all of us. including your beautiful rooster. Missed Bo and Bandit. Too crazy and risky for them when all this racing is taking place…
Hard work getting to deal with the heavy snow and wind storm you had.
All about that perspective shift! It can do wonders. Keep well!
12:42 ❤️❤️❤️❤️😥😥 To Bo, such a blessing and a good, good boy🐶🐕❤️❤️ May his feet be swift, his nose acute, his loyalty remembered, his love remain.
I'm so loving your channel!!! It's the only one I allow to notify me when you upload videos.
My hubby's dream and mine is to live in Alaska in a few years!
Hahahah same for the notifications...I'm hoping to visit Alaska next year! I hope you can move there soon.
Reminds me of Montana ❤😊
18:00 good solution, you can also use HEET! I put some of the red bottle in every tank that I fill in Palmer. Great video as always, that was some fun wet heavy heavy snow! My plow truck was struggling with it last weekend:)
I sure Hope your bees are ok,
Love you guys if only I was 30 years younger ,
Enjoyable to watch, especially as I live in Africa and saw snow…. About 30 years ago. Enjoy these vids of your lives.
OMG - the Iron Dog is so cool. Thank you so much for sharing this with everyone that is on your channel. You guys do such amazing things to entertain yourselves - I love this.
Aerial, I just love the way you put your hair up in the panda ears. So cute. Breakfast tacos on a frozen river.... You guys are living the dream!!!
You two work so hard that I loved seeing you guys have some fun too!
You two are SO CREATIVE with your videos ... audio of the wind to start makes our internal temperature drop in response. Brrrr!
Never a dull moment. Another fun video to watch. I wish you all the Best!
Agree Elisabeth, always fun on this channel. I've started my own channel and it's tough work! I really enjoy brining fun moments to life for others to enjoy in as well. Hope you'll check it out if you have a chance. take care!
Youq guys are amazing !!!! Brave, smart, hard working , and always smiling ! Best couples on earth !
Probably one of the coolest videos you’ve ever made. Thanks for bringing us along.
Loved the Iron Dog! I laughed thinking of Bo and Bandit in it hahah.
I've always admired the beauty of your chickens. They look so healthy, and happy!
Beautiful snow scene! I say that as I’m enjoying our 65 degree day in the South. The “snownuts” looked scrumptious! Y’all deserve a treat after all that hard work. Love you guys! Take care and God bless. ❤️
Yes, here in Georgia we never get snow

FL 😂😂
Bandit is a gentleman around the feathered ladies.
@@dorothyallen3614 Thank you
Great video Eric and Ariel
So interesting to see the different type of snow. We rarely get snow in my part of the UK, but when we do it comes like this, wet, heavy and drifting. I had never really thought that your usual snow is different, I always assumed it was the stuff I was familiar with.
just found the channel.. hello from the 1860 ear in Minnesota. *LIKED* and *SUBSCRIBED*
Like the addition of a narration at the start! Don't think I've seen you do that yet.
Good luck plowing your snow ❄️ Eric and Ariel
A tip on refilling the 1lb canisters - weigh them on the scale before and after to make sure you are not overfilling, it might be dangerous
@@2daloo829 I never pulled the valve and managed to fill to about 16oz. So, ymmv, I guess
the heavy snow this year and the below zero temps are more typical of an Alaskan winter.
This feels like a movie! I love it so much!!!
1million won't be long at this rate! Love their content as well, I try to take inspiration from them when I make my videos. Take care Michelle!
That was great to witness! Thank you so much for taking us a long.
I love all 4 seasons but after 3 months of winter, I’m officially over it. Watching for BC 🇨🇦
Snow removal supervisor Bo is on the job! Love that dog. What about the bees in drifts??? Hope they are okay. Send any extra snow to New Hampshire please, we are way under for the winter.
You guys are very hard working .Thanks God you're still young and energetic..wishing you the best of life and abudant success...
maybe you could build a roof over your front porch-for more storing capacity and protection for you front door-plus no more shoveling the front porch
I am one of your top fans. You make awesome videos, the lack of clickbait and bs is awesome. I love simplicity of your videos. Thank you.
Watching every advertisement as I can’t imagine not being able to peek into your lives. Thank you!!!
@@nbco55 I’m definitely going to consider it. I’ve also been thinking getting some tracks for the quad. My parents have a plow attachment they just replaced and I’m totally claiming lol
It's a balmy 80* here in Florida. Thanks for reminding me why I moved here. Love your channel.
OMG I’m n love with the Iron Dog race 😍
That is ridiculously fun!
BO BO THERE IS THE DOG OF THE BEST Like Bandit also BUT BO is the one for me!!! Keep going get the trees got to have fruit for you !!! Moma is in her 90's and she said that if you hear thunder and have lightning then SPRING IS AROUND THE CORNER FOR US!!! So listen for that Moma has always been right !!!
Damn you guys work hard, I don't think I could do half what you 2 did. back in the day when I was younger maybe but now no chance.
Love the videos and your lifestyle. be safe.
Man I wish we had some of that wet snow in California! We need it!
I never liked the open areas of the overhangs-I kind of figured sooner of later you would get blowing rain and or snow-so glad to hear you are considering doin something about that
On my off time I spend my day lazy and watch your channel all day and I love it.. I tryed moose for the first time and I love it
Is there a gauge that you can attach to the small propane tanks to see how full they get? Or maybe you can weigh them to determine their fullness.
That's good idea/question - I wonder if they just stop taking propane once they're full. I sometimes use those small tanks on my camping trips on my channel so I'll have to see about that. Take care!
I think they could tell because you could hear it filling. When he flipped it back over it started filling back into the big tank.
And yet one more fabulous Alaska tradition you share with us...THANKS SO MUCH!!!
Weigh the little cylinders. You can overfill them. Love watching you guys
All that snow!!! No thank you….I live in upstate New York and when we get 5 to 8 inches it’s too much for me…god bless you for your tolerance on the snow you get….and for never losing your ability to handle it….
