    Hi all prospective druids - quick note in addition to this vid.
    First of all, I love your guys enthusiasm for the class - you may just be the most dedicated group of players.
    I have had a number of comments regarding missing info and so on and ill straight up say I neglected to include power shifting and that's entirely my bad, and I feel it's too late to redact that at this point.
    In addition to this, many people have noted prominent druid players as a resource, such as Shedothecat, Skarm and Ebbn, and I completely agree, those guys absolutely know more about druids than me, the thing is what i'm trying to provide in my videos is an overview as a whole. A kind of video that may help you pick a class. Their content is far more in depth as 2 of them are channels specifically aimed at druids - those guys are perfect for info on how to learn and play the class.
    I didn't exactly praise the druid too much in the video and maybe I should have emphasized better that they can compete - but you have to put a lot LOT more effort in than you would on other classes to do so - far more than the average player will be willing or have time to do. It's not for everyone at the end of the day.
    Other than that, hope you enjoyed.

      TL;DR Being a Drood in classic vanilla was harsh. You weren't allowed to be a cat, roll a rogue. You weren't allow to tank as a bear, they couldn't, roll a warrior. You could barely heal, but they didn't want you to roll as a priest, SOMEONE needed to Mark of the Wild everyone... You could barely Balance, and it was mostly because people just wanted to see a BoomChicken firing laser-beams in the background of their boss kill videos to make it LOOK like someone had mad Boomkins work.... sigh. I on the otherhand made my life so much harder...
      It was worth it all. This is my story......
      IN Vanilla Classic WoW, I got my first 60 as a enhancement shaman. I ended up not liking it at all. Never got into groups. Didn't feel like I was helping. Then I thought about my first MMO, Guild Wars, and how I played the most retarded but amazingly successful heal-bot Monk and how I was known around the server, and was always invited to groups. I remembered how much I liked healing, and supporting people.
      COOL! I should make a healer..... technically I have a shammy here, I COULD heal on it, but I want somethin.... DRUIDS CAN TURN INTO KITTIES!!!!??? O_o
      And so Wildshape (I'm a BIG D&D nerd), the Tauren Drood was born.
      I was D-E-D-I-C-A-T-E-D to learning healing on a Druid, and more importantly on WoW as a whole, so I leveled up as Resto. The whole way. From the time of my first Talent point, through blood, sweat, tears, more blood (mostly my own), more tears (seriously this was retarded I held back many), more blood (my own again), more blood (FINALLY something else bled...).
      My rotation 1v1 against a mob was, Cat form, press every attack button, scream in real life as hard as I could to give my kitty more energy, get the mob to half health.... come out of cat form, WARSTOMP, desperately heal my dying body, then go BACK into cat form and finish it off, hopefully. Yes...... now you see why so much of the blood and tears were mine xD
      I actually healed places like Wailing Caverns... PEOPLE.. LET ME heal... I then proceeded to heal every dungeon and mini-raid. I actually got noticed healing UBRS pretty well. This was right around the time Molten Core was going strong. People weren't sure that Druid's heals did anything..... Even in Molten Core they were like, shaman = multi-healer, priest = god-healer, druids = special-ed healer.
      But I came into Molten Core with a shitty zerg-guild and we were IN THIS. I had like all THREE pieces of leather healing gear in the game coming in, and it took like all the 10 gold I had ever had to buy the damned things too T,T
      Well as shitty zerg-guilds go, this was about as shitty and zergy as you could get. 40 people pulled from the masses of the guild roster, just trying to throw them at the bosses. Didn't go too well..... BUT I did get noticed enough to be asked to join the #2 raiding guild on the server right after Blackrock Lair started. They only had like 4 real druid mains.... and in the first few 2 weeks we made it straight to Chromaggus, who then ate our guild for the next like 2 months or so lol, BUT a good number of times I was the ONLY druid in the raid >

    Druid was perfect for me, i found that druid for me was the best class if your not into hc raiding, my time was spent doing fun stuff around Azeroth, soloing lower dungeons for gold, gathering Herbs for my pots to sell, and helping people out etc etc, ocassionally being asked if i wanted to join a raid to fill a healer spot as they did not have enough, playing like this i actually ended up with the full Cenarion set before tbc was released, as anytime i did raid and the gear dropped, i never had to roll against anyone because the 2 or 3 guilds to which i was known as being a good substitute healer, there druid healers allready had most if not all of the set or better. So Little tip for druid players, make friends with raiding guilds and offer your services as a substitute healer, the more guilds that have you on their list the more gear you will get :P dkp never came into it either because it was always gear that the other duirds already had and you got it for free if no one wanted it.

    I was more casual when I played, but I did "try hard" for my party when we would clear dungeons. Druids make THE BEST 5th man in a solid party. A smart, hybrid specced druid will make every engagement go smooth. Tank pulls one too many, switch bear and hold the extra. Healer can't keep up, well here comes some HOTs to hold everything together. Mob gets away from the tank and goes for a caster, you can take up tanking that mob, or just pull it back to the tank so he can get threat on it without changing his rotation. Boss has minions that hang around, druid can stealth in, party pulls the boss, then druid switches to bear and grabs the minions, which works great for tight situations with mini-bosses and mobs in nearby halls. Plus so much more, I mostly just focused on tanking there, but all the extra DPS you can add, at any range, too, will always help things go smoothly.
    I ended up on a private server a few years back and got myself to be co-leader of a guild. I took some guild members out to a dungeon and they had NO clue how to work as a team. It turns out that many of the players on the server never played on official, and the lower population ment they did everything solo. So, I take out groups of my guild members to VC and go over party tactics. I use my druid for the whole thing. I show each person how to play their role by using what I had as a druid to be an example. Since I was playing as a druid for this, when we would move ahead in the dungeon and things got bad, I could bail out the party with the ideas I talked about above. Druids are great as "party support" in a way that no other class could ever be.

    Hi there. Druid main tank from vanilla here. Great video, but a couple of issues. You said druids generated a lot of threat because they took a lot of damage. If you were properly itemized, you were taking less damage, but potentially burstier due to crits and unlucky dodge clumps. What actually generated the threat was the fact that maul, unlike every other threat generator at the time, had a threat _multiplier_, rather than a flat threat addition. And since you were itemizing heavy agility, since dodge was your only avoidance stat, you crit a LOT. On any threat check fight (vaelestraz was notable), the Druid tank made it easy mode.
    Now, getting itemized, that took 100 times longer. Stealth runs to solo sunken temple bosses, convincing your party to do that unpopular boss in LBRS(already not a popular run). Having warriors bid dkp on your armor health ring, even though you had an armor and health multiplier.
    The Druid forum at the time was one of the most civil and math intensive, as we theorycrafted the crap out of gear and abilities.
    I kinda miss my Druid, Hengemaker. But I probably won’t go back to WoW.

    You completley forgot to mention the feral cat powershifting role. Which boosts feral cat dps by a large amount. It's based on a helmet made by leatherworkers which gives extra energy every time you enter catform. You could spend your energy and then reset your catform for full energy for quite a while until you became oom.

    Through the first half of my raiding life in vanilla I was resto, always being at the top or close to top healing in every raid. I started picking up a lot of spell damage gear as our casters were quickly becoming over-geared so I went balance, which was great in pvp and end game raiding, quite often being close to the top of the damage metres. In pvp balance was a very deadly spec, I finished up just short of rank 14 before they did away with the old honour system. I’ve been enjoying watching your videos. However, you certainly did not hit the nail on the head with this review.

      Although Druids do get gear faster than other classes due to only few of them being in the raid they are not so easy to get into a hard core guild with. Servers will probably have 2:1 ratio of Druids compared to Warriors but most guilds will want 8 Warriors compared to only 2-3 Druids in their rosters.

    As you leaned on but didn't really emphasize. Druids were brought for their universal toolkit, not their performance in a specific role. HoTs were horrible in Vanilla until later in the expansion, as more raw +healing power gear became available (because HoT's couldn't crit). You, ideally, wanted one resto druid for reasons you stated. But you also wanted one boomkin. The 3% spell crit aura was immensely important to healers (and somewhat for mages). Boomkin was a resto shamans best friend. Increased crit chance meant more bonus armor proc's from the Ancestral Healing talent for everyone when casting chain heal. And the innervate alleviated the mana efficiency issue shamans often had. Plus, having two druids meant you had two battle res to get healers/tanks back on their feet. That alone makes any dps/healing lost worthwhile. If they were as good as the 'purist' classes...then there'd be no reason to take anything but hybrids really.

    Druids in hardcore raids will usually get 1-3 slots in raids only, they require a sick amount of healing done for their rank 4 HT to be standing out and they need to use rank 4 since rank 5 and above is 3 sec cast time with talents. It is unfortunally too slow for raid healing and also too slow for tank healing. But once you get enough healing to use rank 3 and 4 , you can spam endlessly as if you didnt even have a mana pool at all! But they lack the "saving" power that a priest has with power word shield or the raid healing that the shaman has. But their main strenght come in form of their innervate. Allways use it on priests since they will usually have a high amount of spirit whereas shamans only use mp5 so the innervate will hardly give them alot of mana. On a priest it will give em about 70% of their mana back if they have a decent amount of spirit, and that is really good as they are required to topheal. Druids second strenght is decurse that will give mages more time to dps. It is a severe downtime for mages to spam decurse so having a druid do the task is usually beneficial. All in all you want to bring at least 1 or 2 innervates incase your healing assignments gave you some problems with one healer using too much mana for his assignment and another doesnt, then you can quickly fuel him up and save the raid. Also, you definately want a motw in a raid and thorns om tanks for pickup threat. Druids is a class you need im raids, but only a very few.

      Can't tell you how many times a combat ress on the tank saved a raid. Hardcore raiders can pretend mistakes don't happen and people don't die all the time but it does, and a combat ress can save a whole wipe and ages clearing through trash again. Also switching to bear to offtank adds running wild in the raid is a huge saviour to healers and dps who tend to get eaten alive whilst the maintanks are busy with the boss. Whilst HoTs are so limited in vanilla due to only 1 spell at a time they were still really powerful and efficient, with druid having rejuvination and regrowth (hugely underrated spell for emergencies) massively reduces panic healing and overheals. As a priest the druids in my raid were always my best buddies.

  • @Iranex1
    @Iranex1 5 лет назад +6

    Just want to say that the video is really good, but i wanted to clarify some of the info on bear tanking.
    Firstly, being crit and crushed doesnt really matter if you have really good healers. This is best exemplified by the fact that all hardcore warrior tanks run a fury/prot build and dual wield frequently, therefore gaining the same vulnerability to crit and crushed.
    Secondly, bears can effectively main tank any boss in vanilla except for chromaggus, nefarian, and huhuran. In fact, there are bears who have main tanked all of naxx. You just need to make sure your itemization is good. For anyone wanting proof or more information feel free to check out Skarm tank, he has many videos going over tanking as warriors and druids.
    Druids are amazing in vanilla if you gear them well and learn how to play them.

    is it fun? YES! its fun as hell. and battle rez is necessary in raids. so, there is always going to be a druid slot open. also, their versatility is amazing. they can fill every support role. every single one. which is amazing in this game. it gives a druid tons of use... also, flag carrying is great. and being a raid healer in a battle ground, thats thee most mobile player on the field that can tank and flag carry. fuck, its really really fun. youre a jack of all trades that no one can catch. its amazing. plus, warriors have a rally hard time with root. rogues against a druid, they lose. why? because of faerie fire. insect swarm. moonfire. bear form. you can put a hunters pet to sleep. you can get out of half of the movement impairing effects just by shifting. you have 2 stuns. on short cooldowns. ones an interrupt. you can depoison and decurse. and throught the most of the leveling process youre waaay faster than everyone, and can stealth around mobs and enemy players. it makes it a million times better. especially on pvp servers where the factions are unbalanced. on my server, you can get ganked 5 times on a single quest. thats an average. and its terrible. but, as a cat, you avoid all of that. and your the best ganker on the road. theee best. in questing. like, people run when they see you, IF they see you. and you can take half their life bar before they get off their first attack, then use a finisher and theyre done. druid is amazing.

    I think the one plus about Druids is they were a lot of fun to level with. I really enjoyed mine. I was never much into PVP (except for that easy to get PVP gear I used to level with, LOL) or even end game raid content, except for some raids I did with guilds and such. So for me, the druid was a lot of fun. I do seem to recall healing with my druid when I did do raids which I enjoyed more than most other healers. Hybrids were like that, but for leveling and just having fun, I recommend a hybrid like a pally or a druid to see what you like, then maybe making a class that is more dedicated to what you like. if tanking, than a warrior, if healing, than a priest for group, though the hybrids all seemed to be good healers, healed a lot on my priest, pally and druid with no problems.
    Definitely you have to be more careful picking a class if end game raids is your goal. For me, that was never something I worried about. I loved leveling more than end game content (I leveled one of each class on horde and alliance as a result) so I always enjoyed the hybrids for that. And in classic where death was real, being able to stealth past a ton of enemies with prowl was a HUGE plus. I never ran low on experience opportunities by skipping enemies. The time I saved with prowl I could use to make up any experience I may have missed by not dying a ton trying to get to a quest goal.
    I think this is why you will see people defend these classes, as they had different goals, perhaps not so much into the end game scene and more into just leveling and having fun, which is where these classes shined I think.

    You can honestly and I hate to say it skip cure poison, because you just learn abolish poison which is a better version of cure poison only a few levels later.
    Still a fun quest to do however and there's no harm in having.
    Also a trick for holding aggro on multiple adds, pre HoTing yourself would give you healing aggro ontop of your swipe aggro. Demoralizing roar also helps with all the small ticks of damage you take.

    • @trulydumb506
      @trulydumb506 5 лет назад

      WillE yup it's not like super big brain since the resulting threat is 50% the amount healed but if you heal even 500 HP between regrowth and rejuv - that's another 250 threat spread between the mobs on top of demoralizing roar also generating threat. Then it's a lot of maul tabbing.
      However I'm also doing some number crunching and am thinking against a certain number of mobs it might actually be more effective to hold aggro using frenzied regeneration. (Bear form HoT) I just need to figure out how the threat modifier works on it since it's actually able to be used in bear form (I'm wondering if it's a static 50% amount healed) or if it'll follow the rules of bear form and generate an extra 30% threat. It will be on larger amounts of adds since it spreads threat evenly but one can't help but wonder. Right now I'm theorizing it'd probably be more Efficient on packs of 6 or greater. But that's my gut reaction - I have some testing and math to do once I cap out on live servers.
      Basically against large packs I'm wondering if frenzied regeneration is a better rage dump than swipe since swipe only hits 3 targets.

    • @trulydumb506
      @trulydumb506 5 лет назад

      Nickolaj Madsen perhaps. It has its niche uses. But I couldn't think of really any other encounter where having both would be needed. I'm not even convinced it'd be needed for rogue 1v1 just luxury.

    I was a nightelf druid from vanilla launch to about 1.5 years into vanilla. Started as balance, but ended up primarily healing. I made a Holy priest as my second character for healing and never looked back. Man though those early druid days were rough, but for some reason fun.

    Balance does awesome in PvP. But your spec doesn't add up - nobody goes moonkin, you go restro for the instant. Get some BL buff and Starfire, Moonfire, Instant Starfire - there goes a 5k burst. That is how you would play balance PvP.

It's a lot about mana conservation and efficiency. Also timing your cool downs correctly and using lower rank healing spells to your advantage. @@WillEmmo I know you did, I just put that up because when I watched it from a point of view of a new player I would put druid down the list if I wanted to heal end game. Then thinking on my experience I just didn't want anyone to be afraid to play druid if they plan on end game content. I can only imagine how hard it is to make videos on classes you didn't play every day during vanilla and you did do a good informative job. There is no way I could do this for most classes I didn't play all the time and cover it as in depth as you did. I did get a kick out of the part about druids where good at running away though, because I did that a lot because I knew that I didn't stand a chance half the time against a high dps class. Warlock! I loved leveling a druid back in vanilla. Once you got cat form, everything got a lot easier. Even travel. They had a solid 30% speed boost, and that was before you hit travel form.
    Druids also had the ability to stealth, which let you roll on stealth dungeon runs for specific bosses with rogues.

    Druids were easily the most understood class in the game during classic. After they received the druid patch they became pvp monsters in the right hands. I'm not even joking. One thing not mentioned here, and isn't mentioned very often, is the armor scaling in bear form. It is such an important aspect of tanking, and nobody really mentions it. You could EASILY gain significantly more armor than a main tank BWL geared warrior without even doing a single raid by collecting items that give additional armor.. Your dodge rating will also be higher. I totally agree that when it comes down to it warriors are the better tank. The biggest problem with druids is what they were like before the godly patch came. They were significantly worse at feral and balance. 9/11/31 Anybody who played druid in vanilla will immediately know what kind of spec this is, and that it was pretty much this or nothing.
    The damage was done. Post 1.7 (it was patch 1.7?) perception didn't change. All druids in raids were resto already, all the raid gear was resto, and guilds flat out rejected the idea of druids being anything but resto. The truth is, very few people actually had the opportunity to see what druids could actually do when they had the right gear. It simply never happened enough for druids to stand out.
    The clips from the bg's in this video clearly show a poorly geared druid when it comes to melee dps. That looks like the wildheart set to me? A blue set pre raid set that offers little in terms of dps. I've heard similar things said about druids abilities in pvp about being able to run away and poor burst. Cat form can produce plenty of damage in pvp. Ravage crits, omen of clarity procs, Claw crit, Rake, Ferocious Bite crits is going to be a rough time for somebody.
    One thing that REALLY gets my goat is the stat ferals choose while leveling. YOU WANT STRENGTH, NOT AGILITY. Strength translates to more attack power per point than agility does. Sure you won't be getting crit or dodge increases, but you really don't need that extra dodge simply leveling. The attack power increase is much more useful. I even see Ferals at 60 do this. You are losing massive amounts of attack power. Every STR will give 2 AP while every AGI will give 1 AP. This issue is a personal opinion of mine, and the high end raid tanking advantages start to favor agi for the dodge increases. Agility won't offer that much of an armor increase either. Also high levels of agility might give enough crit to make it work! I just wasn't given the opportunity to compare the 2 due to the limited availability of gear to experiment.
    Biggest problem? No gear set exists to take advantage of this. Leather tends to offer Rogue stats, and rogues, hunters and even fury warriors will be given priority over any gear that does drop, because most of the guild will treat you like a charity case. This means you'll sit at the bottom of the damage metres in your blues, while epic set geared dps will tell you that druids can't do damage, while you sit wondering how the fuck you're supposed to actually do the damage without the gear. Any class in a raid of epic geared dps will be sat at the bottom of the damage metres if they're the only one with pre raid gear. And yes, this happened to me. They didn't care that it was basically a free innervate, or even leader of the pack giving the 4 melee dudes i was grouped with 3% extra crit. They just seen the damage i was doing, and decided feral druids had no place, I was kicked from the guild a few days later for not abiding by their class rules. Twats. They actually had a discussion over TS to decide if i should be given a leather epic that NOBODY ELSE NEEDED OR WANTED over just DE and selling on the AH (I was feral dps in the raid) That's the kind of shit ferals had to deal with in raids during retail classic unless you were the GM'S boyfriend who decided he wanted to see if druid tanking was possible and you got the whole guild to boost you to every single beneficial piece of gear you can think of even though there was already a druid in the guild that was already pleading for that very thing for months....different guild, but still happened to me.
    Druids might just be the most gear dependent class in the game! kinda joking, but it'd probably got a lot of truth to it.
    THIS WAS A RANT THAT I PUT LITTLE EFFORT INTO FACT CHECKING MY OWN MEMORY!! that being said if you want to call me out on something feel free. Discussion is fun AND educational!

    Its all about gear selection with a druid, two types... a feral set and a resto/balance set. Feral is all STR/AGI/STA gear stat where balance resto is INT/SPR gear stat. As stated most will go feral and do the quick heal and continue on in feral, where balance/resto might have a greater mana pool it soon depletes and you have to eat and drink.

    hey! love ALL your videos all and great effort. I might say that it's hard to understand drood, you're totally right you're never good like the comparison ( mage, rogue or warrior) but I love the versatility that I have, for than one time I avoid a wipe but just bearshifting or trow innervate and double the heal. I think is something that people never realize, because it helps that, in the end, makes you succeed. I think part of the point is that everybody wants to be the king player, THE best and that is a problem like IRL.
    Especially as casual ( can't play as in 2004) be able to cover plenty of other class is cool. I hope that blizzard changes a bit in the future but I'm more realizing that, by doing so, druids will become too strong.

      WillE thank you for quick reply. You seem to know a lot about classic druids. Can I ask you a question? I healed all my gaming life and prefer to heal in classic. But ever since TBC came out, I rolled paladin on horde side and healed non-stop. I really liked that I was literally unkillable by enemies...especially in PvP when people just didn’t bother.
      In your opinion, if one wants to play Horde, what is the closest class that comes close to Holy Pally? No raiding...just 5 mans dungeons and Battlegrounds. For example when I played holy priests, all it took is one warrior on me and I was deleted...even if I had fear, they could trinket and just smash my face. With a paladin, it didn’t work like that...it was really hard to kill him.
      Is it same with druids? Are they equally as hard to kill as holy paladin?

    • @WillEmmo
      @WillEmmo  5 лет назад

      Hey yes, if anything druids, shamans cant get away once someone is on them really. Druids can just spam shift and only hard CC can keep them down.
      Despite being hard to kill their heals are overall weaker and vulnerable to dispels and they dont have a ress ability, only combat res, which can be a big problem for dungeons. But for Flag carrying/ harassing and just being super annoying to kill yes druids are the best for horde
