Using the chrome socket on the impact and the impact socket on the breaker bar: definitely my kind of mechanic-ing.

one of the better instructional videos I've seen. Kindergarten level ..... I love it !!!! Definitely answered all my questions thank you !!
So glad you liked this video and it helped you! Happy Motoring :D!
Love it because in the real mechanic world. Rarely does it go smooth. So you removing the whole bracket. Was Awesome for me. Knowing my luck il be doing the same.

"Grab your nutz and put them on" sounds like a bad pair of jeans i used to own!!!
Great video. Thanks for posting. This has been a big help.
HAHAHA! Yeah that one got a few laughs while editing it as well!
Huge THANK YOU! I was going after the wheel bearings to solve a rolling hum, but your vid showed me it was the axle - mine looked exactly like yours, with the tear in the middle boot. I hoped it was the bearing cause I learned how to change those from another vid. I was afraid of axles. Thought they must be more complicated. But holy cow! Literally just two 13 mm nuts and plug and play. Like changing a really heavy, greasy light bulb.
Definitely going to have to remove that bracket. Might be a full day Jon for me...summer day ha. Thanks for this!
How did it go?
I love this video because it shows you that things dont always go as plan and shows you want to do in that situation
I had trouble getting the axle out just like he did and had to remove the bracket. I thought I did something wrong at first until I watched this video. I freaking love these wonderful people who take the time to post videos. Thank you!

Just replaced both sides due to this video! I didn't have to remove that entire piece that holds it in place toward the back-just the "washer" as I was calling it. Great tutorial and great way to spend a morning! Thanks a lot!
Very cool, glad you were able to get it all done! Happy Motoring! -Blair
Good video, remove the bracket is the best suggestion. If I am not doing that, it will take forever to take out the axle
This guy is awesome! Right to the point and very detailed with knowledge needed and necessary for the project you're about to take on. Thank you!!! Finally someone who gets to the point without some long story I'm not interested in😊

I had the same problem as you had to take the entire carrier out but I could not figure that when I watched your video thank you so much!

You should be a teacher bro, great video
I appreciate that! I went to college to be an athletic director/coach at a highschool. But I dont like alot of our school systems so now I educate via youtube and our blog :D!
Love at 1:29 the impact socket is on the breaker bar and the chrome socket is on impact gun. 🤣 just kidding. These are great videos.
Lifetime warranty baby!!!!!!!!!
@@Revitauto yeah but impact have more weight to them. Which is necessary sometimes. More rotating mass will have more force to loosen nuts. I mean it still works. But when you can't loosen a nut with a chrome socket and the thing shatters after a minute. You'll learn
Thanks a bunch very informative im guessing a 31 mm socket is what I’m lacking.

Good job, only bad part is......No torque wrench! I hate it for the hub bearing!🤷If you don't torque any thing else, at least torque the axle nut to specification. Just saying. Axle nut torque is very important!!!!
Great video. You explained all the detailed in plain understandable English. I'm currently on the same project on my 2010 Nissan Maxima. My front passenger side CV axle separated. I've already removed the piece that goes to the front wheel. I'm having trouble removing the final piece that goes to the transmission. I've tried hitting it from the back to the direction of the front passenger wheel without any luck. I only see one bolt to remove. Have you worked on any 2009 to 2014 Nissan Maxima on a similar project? Do you have any advice for me to complete this? I've changed the two front lower control arms and two fronts struts to name a couple of things that I've already done in this car.
This looks like a fun job!
Well done!

Inner cv joint fell apart when trying to pull the axle out. Now have three of the four bolts out of the bracket. Last bolt on the bottom most difficult to remove. You edited removing and installing that bracket, maybe swearing was involved?
Excellent video! I have a 2016 Altima... has much changed between my year and the years listed in the video title?
Thanks much.
Dude. Thank you.
Glad to help
EXCELLENT done video! I have to replace both hubs and both axles on my 09 Altima (parts on order). Question, I take it that you can not over tighten the hub/bearings like you would on a trailer or other vehicles?? I am guessing that since the hub is a complete part, you just crank down the axle nut nice and tight like you did in the video. Thanks again fora great video. Now I just need to find one for replacing the hubs and I will be set for my weekend project :)
How did it go?
@@Revitauto it went very smooth! Thank you!! The Altima is driving like a champ. There has been alot of stuff replaced. It was a free car (from my brother). Just glad it was not a car I purchased due to the amount of work it needed. But now it should be good for another 100k miles :)

Dude!!!! Thanks for the video thanks for all the info on every step of the process 🙌🏾 would this work on a 2010 Nissan Maxima??
Hey! I am not sure if it is the exact same but I believe it will be super similiar! Let us know how it works for you and report back! Thanks and Happy Motoring- Blair
Will I need to check the alignment after?
I always suggest getting your alignment checked after completing any serious suspension work, with this set up you won't need it if all you are doing is unbolting the upper ball joint. That said, you can got to a Merchants tire or NTB and ask them for a free alignment check, then you can ask for a printout to decide if you need an alignment. I hope this helps Happy Motoring!
Thank you, this helped

What happened to properly torquing down the axle nut? I did a job like this on my wife’s Altima, and I over torqued it with my gun... bearings went bad in no time... axle nut needs 129ft/lb for proper installation and to prevent over tightening and bearing (hub) failure.
Thanks for posting! How many miles were on your wifes car? Yes over turning will cause bearing failure prematurely. I for some reason can not find that torque spec in my data base.

Nice vid, thanks for all the great info. However I have to ask, why didn't you replace the seal at the transmission? Ten bucks for a seal, seems like cheap insurance, you're already in the mix. If the axle is bad, it can't be much longer before the seal goes bad, starts leaking, and then you have to jump through all the hoops again. I understand you have to draw the line somewhere, I'm curious what your logic is.
How would the axle boot being torn indicate the trans seal is on the way out? His logic is the seal is good, dont replace what isnt broke or close to it. If new seal isnt seated perfect it will leak. Then u just created that problem
@@Bags1818 My point is if you ever have to replace the transmission seal, you are going to kick yourself that you didn't take 10 minutes and replace that seal when you were right there previously, when you had the axel out. It's not a tricky job, it's a simple straightforward seal replacement, I see no reason that you would create a leak. I agree the torn boot is not a definite indication that the seal is going to leak soon, but typically a boot doesn't go bad on a low mileage car, so I would just knock out the seal while I was in the mix, that's where I would draw the line, everyone applies their own logic, I am curious what his thoughts were. They might be close to your own...
Just adding my thoughts as i wrench everyday for a living. I can count on one hand how many axle seals have gone out to where it was leaking bad and not seeping slowly. You would be kicking yourself when you have to do the job again cause the factory seal that had plenty of life was replaced and you knicked the seal going in and created an actual issue.
@@Bags1818 Good stuff...

Great tutorial video. I have a 2010 Nissan Maxima. I need to also remove the bracket that the passenger side CV axle rests on. I've removed 2 bolts from the right side but it still won't burge. Can someone please tell me where I can find the additional bolts to remove and if you have any pics or videos that shows this, even better. Thanks in advance.
My cv axle came apart when removing. Loosened the bracket as you did and it doesnt have enough room to move out. Having a hard time taking the other part of the cv Axle out. Any suggestions?
Thank you
You are very welcome
I did everything just like you and the same way any mechanic would. Drive shaft works fine. HOWEVER, AT ABOUT 40MPH THE CAR VIBRATES AND ONCE PAST 50, IT DOES FINE. I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT THIS SUDDEN AFTER I CHANGED THE AXLE PROVLEM COULD BE. ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE APPRECIATED.!
What kind of oil we need to put one finish for Nissan Altima 2011 2.5 and were
My axle looks identical with the ripped boot. The lower control arms on both sides the larger rubber bushing failed and was ripped. At about 200,000 everything in the front end needs replacement. Oil pan almost rusted through, a small flat tip screwdriver easily punctured it with just hand pressure. It was running badly once hot and needed to be turned off for half an hour. Local tranny shop said it was done. I googled it and replaced the rotation sensor on the tranny and it ran like new with the new $40 sensor. Rear lower shock mounting bolts can be seized in the rubber bushing. Bolt rusts tight in the steel tube that the bushing surrounds.
Hi big man.and what about the oil that is pouring you need to refill it? Great video ligth up my day men
You will need to check the fluid and top it off if it is not at the correct level. Happy Motoring- Blair
What are the force torque values for the nuts? I heard it's important to tighten them to the right numbers
Very good video.
Thanks! I appreciate it! Good luck with doing this job! I saw your comment on our other video!
Gracias por su video amigo
De nada amigo!!!!
I end up paying a mechanic to do the job and what I noticed, is that to remove the axle bracket, you need to remove the bolt from the motor mount to have access to the 16mm bolts that holds the bracket. It's unfortunate that you didn't mentioned anything about it in this video.
You mean the axle carrier? We went through every step that we had to complete in order to replace this axle. What year make and model is your car? We did have some tight clearances to remove bolts but every step we completed is in this video is exactly how we replaced the axle.
@@Revitauto my car is a 2007 Altima, 4 cil., 2.5, automatic (cvt)
Around the time 6:50, the video was cut and does not show the process removing the bracket, only shows removing one bolt and after that is the cut.
Reginaldo Lucas I had same problem. They couldn’t take it off that’s why they cut the video from there. There were four bolts on the axle carrier.
I had the same issue with removing the bracket, but lifting the car higher and going from the bottom, I was able to remove the two bolts which are further in, it's much harder from the top due to leverage
And when I say vibrate, I can feel it in the steering wheel. It seems to vibrate at a left to right fashion. I hsve a 2012 altima just like the one you did. I can't see how changing the passenger drive shaft would suddenly cause this issue to occur. Perhaps other front steering components need to be replaced. However, this problem only surfaced after the new install. Suggestions would be appreciated.
Helpful video, thank you!
Glad this video helped! Keep us posted on how it goes for you!
Does this one have ABS or no ABS? The reason I’m asking is because I am wondering if I need one with the tone ring or not. Mine has ABS
how did you know exactly how much Tranny fluid you lost? I've been wanting to put some new axles in, but the only thing that's holding me back is topping off the Transmission fluid. I heard stories about these CVTs messing up due to lack of topping it off to it's proper level. Great video by the way.
javier vasquez catch all the fluid that comes out and measure it.

When replacing the right axle is it necessary to replace the left axel as well? I don’t believe anything is wrong with the left axle
They do not need to be replaced together. If the driver is fine and the passenger side is not. You can just replace the passenger!
I was going to ask this exact question, thanks.
Did you refill the transmission?
thanks for the vid great help
rex366 really glad this video helped you! Happy Motoring!
Undid the bracket holding the carrier bearing and the damn thing is still stuck, Slide hammer not budging it. Also prying the bracket away from the engine so the two aligning studs aren't catching
Found the problem. Couldn't see and pulled a different 16mm bolt. Looking at the 4 bolts that were the same except one had 10.8 while the other three had 8.8 on the head. Removed the correct and last bolt for the bracket and it came out easily. Had to heat up the bracket to hammer out the axle.
make sure you flush up the nut before hitting it with a hammer... to avoid damaging the threads.
Great tip! Thanks for sharing!
That only matters if your re-using the axle. If you're replacing like he is, just beat the hell out of it
12:30 do you torque to specific specs? Thanks
Is that shaft or axel
Anyone have a video changing the right side engine mount for 2008 Nissan Altima 3.5 L
did it need front end balance after ?
I have this really bad hum coming from what I thought was the front passenger side. I’ve had some experiences with wheel bearing being bad and making the same sound. Changed the wheel hub and the humm is even louder. Tires seem to be balanced and the wear normal. Now the sound sounds like it’s coming from the middle of the car. Could a bad the axel make that humming sound that sounds like a bearing?
It is so challenging to find noises. And I would really have to listen to it in person to tell you. But I can say if you are suspecting it is a tire. You can drive the car and then rotate the tires and see if the noise changes locations! I hope this helps!
Thank you for the video.
How and how much transmission fluid do i put in it
I checked the fluid after doing this service and only added 1/8 of a quart of transmission fluid
@@Revitauto thank you

do you pull it out or it off it self?
Great video. Can you tell me if this is the same procedure for a 3.5 with a manual transmission?
I’m waiting for the same answer. BTW, just had the clutch throw-out hydraulics fail. All new clutch bits...$2300. 😱
Mine seem to be different. There’s no retaining bracket
Is it the same for the rear???
I was told that my differential was bad. How do you know if its the axle or differential? We're experiencing a slip then it catches over and over. Sort of like when you strip a bolt with allen wrench.
Hey Victor, I would make sure to have your issue diagnosed by a profressional shop that shows you their diagnostic sheet and procedures. Without seeing the car or test driving it myself I really dont have enough information to be able to advise you. Happy Motoring- Blair
This what I have to thought to do mobile mechanic, how much money a month you be making?
Thankyou. What is the torque specs for that bolt you checked with a torque wrench?
Hey! Can you tell me at what second you are looking at! I will verify that all the torque specs are in the video description
Any tips on getting a stubborn axle out of the transmission? I removed the carrier bracket and using a 5lb slide hammer and I still cant get it to go. I am able to move it about 1/4" and there is a little bit of trans fluid leaking out but that is it. I have tried rotating the tire as well.
YEAH! I got an idea, so if you take a measurement on the axle where it goes into the differential. You can go and get an exhaust clamp and then clamp that onto the axle then use a long pry bar and a hammer and that will get it to pop out. Also helps if someone is holding the axle really straight.
This is different on a Nissan Quest in a Maxima you have to take off your tire rod if you want to take a real shortcut you have to take down the backside of the lower control arm why it couldn't just be simple as a Altima
Thank you for sharing! If I get the opportunity to film this repair on one of those vehicles I will be sure to video document it! Happy Motoring-Blair
So the bottom ball joint aluminum bracket is holding the brake assembly. Is that it or did you take off the other little ball joint where you align the car?
Hey Brandon at what point in this video are you referring to? We did not remove any ball joints in this video.
Where do you buy your cv axle
Hey buddy, thanks for the video! Just installed mine and everything feeling SMOOTH!! Only 1 issue I’m having... when I put car in reverse while stopped I’m getting a grinding/continuous clanking sound. Topped off trans fluid, and aside from that issue car driving like a dream. Any ideas on cause or a fix?
Hey Justin! Glad this video helped! It is really hard to diagnose sounds over text. Can you tell if the noise is coming from the front or the rear? While rolling in reverse does it make that sound or just while at idle. Did it do this before you did the axle swap? IF it is a new noise don't drive it! If it is not a new noise, can you take a video and try to replicate it?
Also are you located near the D.C. Area?
What is the torque specifications for the axel nut, spindle knuckles bolts, & the bracket bolts
What kind of oil we have to put after changing the axel for Nissan Altima 2011 2.5 and were
Is there anyway to put axel back in the trans wrong or it only fits back in like into a grove. And how much trans fluid did you put back in ?
If it is sunk all the way in. Then it is in! The splines of the axle line up with that into the diff/transaxle. If it is in far enough it is in!

Hey man i am taking out My passenger side Axel on my 2007 nissan altima 2.5l. I have the Carrier Keeper out & i removed 3 of the 4 16mm bracket bolts, but i cant get to the bottom backside 1 w/ my 1/2 dr 24in breaker bar no matter if i use an extender or 16mm regular socket or 16mm deep socket. How can i get it out without removing th3 bracket? Or how did u remove the back bottom 16mm bolt?
Hey buddy, did you get it sorted yet? When I am trying to break a bolt or nut lose I make sure that I have the shortest amount of distance from the head of the ratchet to the bolt or nut. This multiplies my torque capabilities. I will use penetrating oil and or heat applied the the metal area to help as well. Keep us posted! Happy Motoring-Blair

I have an ‘08 Coupe with 3.5 engine and 6sp MT. Is the process the same? Torque spec on 21mm?

hello!
Need your help to identify if it is a change of side axle or transmission, I have a Nissan altima 2009 4 cyl., and the problem that presents is of excessive vibration when moving forward after passing the first gear returns to normal gear change, this happens only at the beginning. please help with your comments!
I would look up reviews for a great repair facility that will ride in the car with you to help determine the issue. Without being in the car to help and just making a guess as to what you could have an issue with. I would say to check the inner axle joint boots. When they break they cause excessive joint wear and that can cause a vibration while accelerating.
What's labor time on that?
What are the torque specs?
For a mechanic how long should it take him/her to replace them both ??
Hey Marvin, not sure what you are trying to get an answer from. Are they a good mechanic or a bad one. Do they have a lift to work on? Is it a mobile tech? There are so many factors involved when figuring time involved in a job.
How much for this work?
Very good video I've done this before but all the right mm sockets an all that is very important to have ones your ready to get started .thank you .I love the part the guys says ,"now grab your nuts " I thought now what do I do with them 🤣🤣🤣🤣but on a serious note very good video gracias
if u don’t measure how much fluid u loose but it’s still seems full on the dip stick wat do u recommend
Jodeice Witherspoon the dipstick does not lie! If you lost a little fluid and you check the fluid on a level surface with the vehicle running and in park and it all looks good. Then you are good.
How did you check the fluid? Was the engine running?
Will this be the same for a 2001 nissan altima
