    Awesome video and Amen to Buster Keaton. After doing a deep dive on so many cameras, because I need a second camera for this next film I’m about to make, I’m headed over to make a final payment on my Panasonic S5. All things considered, it just seems like the best, most cost-effective, And most future proof camera moving forward for me. I’ve been getting incredible results with a Sony a 6400 for a few years, and I wanted a full frame camera that could shoot 10 bit, that had better stabilization, and that I could actually afford, and so this fits so many boxes for me. This is a great video, it really helps a lot. Thanks for sharing.

      Reviews like this is why I love sharing this content. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, I think you'll enjoy the camera just as much as I do. It's crazy versatile, having the same powerful sensor as it's older siblings the S1 and S1H; the S1H is Netflix certified and only has an additional Low Pass filter for moire. And you can also unlock the 6k RAW features using the video assist (BRAW) or the Ninja V (ProRes). Love this camera!

    Brilliant video. Charles! I am gonna order a Gobe adapter for my S5. Do you think it's gonna work also with a Nikkor 55/200 or only for prime lens? If yes wich set up in camera u suggest ? thank you in advance

    • @raksh9
      @raksh9 2 года назад +2

      The Gobe adapter is passive, so it won't send focal length data to the camera for IBIS. This may or may not be important to you. If the lens aperture is controlled electronically, that won't work either.

    Interesting that you choose the max settings for autofocus speed and sensitivity, as all the other videos I have watched about the S5 recommend lowering both settings for better autofocus, not increasing them.

    • @charlesn
      @charlesn  8 месяцев назад +1

      I tried both and had a better experience with faster settings. Definitely experiment and choose what works best for your applications. Shooting darker areas is the main killer for this autofocus in my opinion. It really relies on the subject being well lit to track well.

      I see. Thank you for the advice. This camera is such a bargain right now. Was $998 on B&H, brand new, recently. Currently about the same price in the UK on Amazon.@@charlesn

    Use a hdmi cable clamp on the rig. Mine is cemented there and i feel safe.the hdmi qdapter from small rig is crap, it broke after a week of usage. The pins dezintegrated...

    Hi
    Great channel and content,about HDMI type d I use like you an adaptor plus a clamp because I had a very bad experience with GH4 and the hdmi port is out of order.
    So I have a Nitze cage and clamp and small rig cage and clamp both working good...one think to mention that shooting braw or proresraw over prores HQ externally you are loosing the inbox distortion and lens correction with native L mouth specially with wide angle....and it is not always possible to correct in resolve....so depending of the focal apperture I tend to shoot prores HQ.
    I have Ninja V and BM video assist 4K as well and depending of in which codec you are shooting you may need a 2.0,2.1 HDMI cable.I had the kangourou sign with Ninja V with proresraw and actually I do not recommend to buy smallrig HDMI d to a connector cable. I had some issues with it but since I change to a no name 8k HDMI connector cable no issues at all.
    I prefer video assist over Ninja V but I found out that shooting handheld I got better result with Ninja V...probably personally the ergonomic suits me better.
    But all in all I agree with you S5 is the best FF you can get for your money...

    Have you come up with a solution for the terrible screen latency on the S5. Whenever l use a nd filter or photograph in low light it lags terribly. I would love to get the BM monitor, but am worried it will suffer the same latency. Sigma have L Mount to EF adaptor fyi.

    • @charlesn
      @charlesn  Год назад

      Interesting. I haven’t seen additional lag due to low light with the Blackmagic video assist. It’s doing it’s own processing to record the video so it should be ok. I’ll have to experiment. Which monitor are you using that you get lag? My initial guess is that it’s the S5 processor having the issue, but you shouldn’t have this with the BM or atmos beyond the typical lag (milliseconds).

    Do you ever get aliasing with the 5?

    • @charlesn
      @charlesn  4 месяца назад +1

      Not more than typical for a 6k sensor. I feel like I get less aliasing than my 6k pro, but it might be because this is recording 4K pixels on the 6k sensor…it might help the bayering effect that causes moire, not for sure. The S1H has the low pass filter built in if you’re facing too much moire on your project.

      @@Seph_vision I picked up the iix too. You’re going to love it. I haven’t had any more moire than typical (close grid patterns to avoid, etc).
