The Blackmagic 6K Full Frame vs the 6K Pro, What is the BIG difference?
This video is a bit crazy. It took me months to compile all of this information and put it together in a meaningful way. I tackle the controversial subject of comparing the new Blackmagic full frame 6K camera to the Pocket 6K Pro.

    I'm really interested in getting a S5 and using it in APS-C mode for filmmaking, but I wonder what that means for anamorphic shooting. Is 4:3 mode still an option as well as anamorphic stabilization/de-squeeze? What anamorphic resolutions are available in APS-C mode?

    • @charlesn
      @charlesn 2 дня назад

      @@entropicnic6892 good question. 4:3 isn’t the greatest aspect ratio for anamorphic for sure, but it works perfectly for 1.33, which is a popular ratio for the Sirui set; what I started with last year. If you film in APSC and use the full frame sensor for 4K that should give you all the real estate necessary on the sensor for an APS anamorphic (even up to 2x), you’ll just do a crop I post to the proper size you want. To use IBIS for anamorphic (a super power in the Lumix series), just make sure to select the right anamorphic setting (or close) and you should be good to go. Otherwise just turn off IBIS if it keeps giving you any unwanted warping edge effects. I think all of the same anamorphic desqueeze options (and Image Stabilizer) are available for APSC mode.

    • @charlesn

    • @charlesn

      @ the S5 has SDXC SD slots, which goes up to 2TB, so a 512GB card will work great. Their manual is a bit weird (page 31) and says SDXC is 48GB to 128GB, which is wrong. I’ve used the 256GB cards with no issues so I’m sure the 512GB is fine too.

    14:44 : All cinema projectors are compliant with DCI standard : full matrice projection chips is always ( nec/sony/christies...) 17/9 dci. 10:52 from my POV ( digital shots for theaters since somes years, documentary single-operator) your second-test about noise level seems unrelevant. it's not a fair, logical comparison. From your first test ( and from any other test by others peoples) cry the reality : 6k Full frame have not a "real" double-iso. IF you need to push the sensitivity sometimes : S35 6k pro still the best choice. For me. And i need to say something more : when you choose best-glasses ( i stack the best glasses from 70' until now) S35 become more and more relevant, because it's easier to find best glasses for cover that surface. ( vignetting eat light, border circle-image is often softer with 24X36 sensor) So for me, from any brand until now : S35 still the right size for filming.

    Id like to add that anamorphic S35 is typically not always 4 perf - essentially if you take 35mm film at 8 perfs per foto and turn it vertical(up and down like a movie camera) imagine a rectangle every 4perfs THATS roughly 18mm perf frame remember S35 is smaller only because the strip gets pulled down not left to right like foto 35mm at 36x24mm- same film only chemically different.. remjet etc... Most vintage ANAMorphics are designed for 4 perf 24x18mm I think its a Fun coincidence but I think youre giving BMD more credit than they deserve. Full frame as in photo 36x24 anamorphic are a recent creation although some larger circle optics existed before 2018 photo size imagers were not the intention.

    Great feedback from everyone. 2 quick notes: (1) I think @billyoung9538 identified correctly that the filter removed was the IR cut, NOT the OLPF. (2) and there was no trickery with the low light test, but…I think it might have been more of an ISO noise test and not a true low light test so I will come up with better tests for the next video.

  • @billyoung9538
    @billyoung9538 Месяц назад

    The assumtion was the OLPF was integrated into the IR Cut, but if this is showing the same Moire with and without the IR Cut in place then that means the IR Cut was removed and the OLPF was not.

    • @charlesn
      @charlesn Месяц назад

      @@billyoung9538 great point. I admit I wasn’t going to do much surgery beyond the ‘easy one’. I bet you are correct and the OLPF is mounted to the sensor like most other sensors I started to research (S1H, Canon, etc).

    • @billyoung9538
      @billyoung9538 Месяц назад

      @@charlesn Given most of the after market OLPF's for older Blackmagic cameras were done as MOD replacements to those cameras stock IR cut filters, pretty much everyone assumed Blackmagic took the same route with the Ursa mini 12k OLPF. It even tested almost identically to an UM12k with the Rawlite OLPF. So thus the idea that the OLPF and IR cut were the same on all OLPF based Blackmagic cameras seemed like a logical leap, but your test seems to prove that this likely isn't the case. This isn't 100% definitive, but when the moire pattern doesn't change at all, if all other factors were exactly the same, then that most certainly suggests the OLPF is still on.

    Hi, I shoot a lot of vertical content. I was wondering if this tripod head can tilt 90 degrees? I can't seem to find any info on this. Cheers.

      good question. The TP61 factory camera head cannot tilt sideways for vertical shooting. It will tilt forward or backward used in typical video, but not sideways sadly. Since I use the manfrotto quick detach system I picked up an MH496-BH for around $60 used on eBay, but I don't know if that's your preferred mount.

      @@charlesn Thanks for the reply. I'm using the DJI ronin gimbal plate so that I can quickly attach to my gimbal when needed. I'm trying to find a lightweight tripod with a fluid head, 90 degree tilt functionality and an attach system that supports that DJI plate. Been a tricky journey so far.

    Thank you for this tutorial! There is one question for me. What is have to set in the lens data if I use a sigma 18-35 with a speedbooster?

      good question. I would probably add the multiplier from the speed booster as the final number. so if you have a 0.71 speed booster and are set to 35 mm in the Sigma it would be 25 mm. Definitely experiment and see if it makes a big enough difference for the software to stabilize.

      Thank you. And if I change the focal lengh the camera will recognize this change? I mean I set the lens data one time and use this for different focal lengths?

      @@r.h.6581 if the lens is not a manual lens it should recognize it. It reads my Sigma lenses. Swipe the screen left (or right) and select ‘lens’ to get to the lens data and see if it is updating so you can read what your setting is.

    A fantastic comparison video. I've read a few comments from people recommending people to avoid using an APS-C crop on a full frame sensor because of lower light and image quality. It's clear these are opinions from individuals who have never bothered to give real world tests as you have. Bravo 👏

    I use an ipad mini 6 with a little extension. Works perfect. Changing ND filters is part of flying a drone or make sure you keep the sun behind you.

    Updates on the tripod?

      It still works as advertised, no weirdness yet. It is still great for RUclips work, getting a camera up quickly, but I picked up a few more that I'm using for heavier cameras I'll share in another video shortly.

    The alpha channel , I've been doing for years. I was actually calling it the "jim" node to my colorist friends - ( Jim's Isolation Method ) - not claiming that I was the first, or the only one to find it, but showed it a few years ago to a couple if well known Resolve teachers and they have included it in their masterclasses. This is the first actual youTube video that I've seen someone else teach it. You can also grab a still of the isolated window or selection, and because the alpha is on the output, it will retain the selection and is great for using the scopes to match a difficult hue, from different angles. I think we have all had those Red / Orangey red color differences. Using that method you can grab a still, then draw a window on the shot to match - add the image wipe and see both in a waveform or parade, to assist in matching. Anyway, I have asked BMD for a selection of the output for many years, and so far still not implemented. Good for you to see that and some solutions.

      I definitely won't claim I was the first to do these either, lol. They were picked up mostly from Reddit posts. I was super surprised to run into this issue when I finally started jumping into my first big project this year. Thanks for sharing your experience. I'll mimic the 'Jim' node title in the channel for future references!
