    Always used my finger and never thought about a filter case or something similar to block the sun! Great tip 👍🏻

    Hey Ian, came across your video and it got my attention from the start - no messing around, get right into the subject detail and none of this waffling on like you see in other video tutorials. I actually watched a video the other day where the presenter went on for TWO minutes before actually getting to the subject matter so kudos to you. I'm off out to shoot a waterfall so don't have time to watch more of your videos right now but if they are all as good as this one in getting straight to the point - unlike this comment :-) - that would be great. You have a new subscriber! Cheers! Alwyn

    I've used my finger and/or hat to block the sun, but I like the idea of a straight edge especially when you have a flattish horizon. Will definitely give it a try.

    • @ian_worth
      @ian_worth  5 лет назад

      Thanks Jeffery, I think it works well for sure. That being said, there's probably times where the finger might be more useful say if the horizon is not straight. All the best mate 😃😃

    Great tutorial, I would’ve used Lightroom but the way you solve it in PS is perfect.

      Awesome, glad you liked it. Sadly there is no way of using layers in lightroom. The only way of getting rid of that lens flare would be to clone it, which wouldn't look great, to be honest. If there wasn't any flare then blending exposures in lightroom would work a treat. 😃👍👍

    Really well done - it is amazing how people will attack the same thing in different ways: I tend to invert the mask and paint in where I want effects whilst you do the opposite - both roads lead to Rome though ;-) Thanks for sharing your expertise & artistry! I wondered about something as you were in the field describing how to hold up the filter case to block light - I wonder if adding a very strong ND into the filter holder itself might work similarly - e.g., putting a 10- or 15-stop ND filter onto the top and dragging it down until you almost reach the horizon? I'll have to try that some time to see how it works - certainly less wobble then holding anything over it - I, personally, have gone w/ the thumb approach (as that is what was taught to me) - but your note about the wobble of the finger is spot on. Cheers!

      Thanks Alan, yeah that's a good idea. Maybe cutting a piece of card and sliding that into the holder might work too. I too invert masks sometimes. Especially if i'm just painting in some small areas of selective sharpening. Thanks for the awesome comment and info 👍😃😃

    Thanks for the video. Obviously ND filter is best to reduce too much sunlight, what if I don't have a ND filter at the moment, would CPL filter be helpful in this case?

    Fantastic video 👏 This was super helpful.
    Do you ever processes your Fuji raw files first before editing the jpgs into Photoshop? I've been really enjoying using Capture1.

    • @ian_worth
      @ian_worth  5 лет назад +2

      Hi mark, Yes i always process my raw files first in lightroom, I didn't go through this stage in the video because it would have made the video too long. Thanks for watching 👍👍

    • @ДианаКабардинова
      @ДианаКабардинова 4 года назад +1

      @@ian_worth could you say what do you usually do to your raw files in LR before starting to work on them in PS? What did you do to this image in LR? Thanks! Great video. The second question is do I understand correctly that the purpose of the lense hood is to cover the sun exactly like you did with a finger? I mean if I have the hood on, but sun still hits the glass of the lense directly because of the angle at which I point the camera, the hood is useless?

    Thanks for such an informative video. Ian, I wanted to ask you; do you ever shoot to the right(ETTR)? I have learned that the histogram in the viewfinder is really a JPG representation and that I can actually push my histogram further where it actually slightly clips on the right! When I bring the raw file up, the histogram is not clipping at all and I have way more control over the shadows...

    • @ian_worth
      @ian_worth  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Steve, sure, I do expose to the right sometimes. For this particular shot i didn't want my foreground to be to bright. I really wanted to accentuate those shadows and show how the light shaped the land. I did a video on the histogram which goes through how the jpeg file changes the graph, check it out, it's in the archives somewhere 😃👍👍
