I bought a 40 pin Sentro to make earwarmers but the darn thing wouldn't work straight out of the box. I had to get ready for a Christmas Bazaar and wanted a lot of earwarmers. I managed about 3 but with much frustration and many unusable ones because of a tremendous amount of bunched stitches. So I vowed to take the thing apart after the Bazaar which, was was 12/9. Today is 12/11 and I just saw this video so I tried it. O.M.G!!!! I wish I had seen this earlier. I used some Red Hart yarn that the Sentro definitely would not accept and after applying the grease and using yarn to clean up the pins, I decided to just use the Red Hart and not put weights or use any other method to make it work. I just cranked. It worked!!! I looked at my sample and not a single ugly stitch, they were all beautiful. Thank you so much for this, I only wished I had seen it a month ago. Thank you Thank you Thank you.
Some say you don’t need it but I think it makes a difference. See what you think. The tinfoil hack for the handle is also a game changer for me. Video on my channel.
I have taken mine apart and put it back together a number of times in the past several weeks. Now I can do it in a matter of minutes, haha. I learned from videos of a guy in South Africa who was manufacturing metal parts for those machines. The white lithium grease did seem to help, but I made a mess and found that putting too much on slowed it down. Once I wiped a bunch off it worked better. But I did notice a "dragging" sound, which I think is the bottom rubbing along part of the inside lower rim.
thank you so much for al the tips, I've had to stop using mine for awhile, my right shoulder is giving me fits. So I'm just crocheting hays to donate at my church this fall.
Gotta try this ... Thanks.. Less traumatic and daunting than taking it apart and much faster and safer than disassembly IMHO. I do think it will get the lube where it needs to go better with the "needles" in up position when applying. Could not see where you put it on handle?? Maybe where hand knob joins handle?? Great tip
Lithium grease has a noxious smell. Tried this the way you did it. and I ended up cleaning off all of my needles. Projects still smell like lithium grease. Not sure if there is a gassing off period and the smell will go down but grease is not easy to get all the way off. I have done about 100 rows of scrap now and I still smell it. Less is more.
What I just got finished doing was, dissasembled the entire machine. and washed all the parts in dawn dish soap with a toothbrush. Degreased everything. Then used a food safe silicone lubricant called "Super Lube". Now my machine works great. No smell at all and it's almost like new. I had to regrease everything and to anyone reading this. wear nitril/vinyl gloves. Super lube is easier to clean on than lithium grease. Will it ruin my machine. Not sure yet. I fix N64 controller sticks with it so I figure that is plastic on plastic too. May as well try it. and it is non toxic. I am not mad at this video. I just cannot believe how much the lithium grease smell stuck to my work. NOTE FOR EVERYONE I regreased the WHOLE machine with lithium grease. This gassing off from the lubricant may be my issue. Don't use too much!
I learned some thing I didnt know these had to be greased--- ty for sharing Im brand new to all of this --Can this grease be gotten at Walmart or Amazon?
That’s a tough question to answer. When it starts to screech a bit. Depends how much you use it. I use mine every day and I lubricator it maybe every 4-5 months. Not that it needs it. I do it for maintenance.
Does that also make the needles and machine smoother? Cause I have many different sizes and the smaller one always get stuck when I want to knit on that one
Think I need to try because my wheel when turning is starting to squeak. Could u respond whether this is the best thing to do before I try it. I made 5 hats.
I really believe the white lithium grease has made a good difference and I do recommend it. I also have a tinfoil hack that I use on the handle. Do it at your own risk but I think it works wonders.
@@satsumamoon after a lot of use the oil that they put in the machine at assembly runs off and the machine doesn’t run as smoothly. Permatec White Lithium Grease. I got it from Canadian tire. For a quick fluff removal I turn the machine upside down and gently shake it and I also blow it with a blow dryer.
Need to be cautious and use lubricants that do not damage plastic. Look for words like dielectric, O ring, plastic. Some white lithium formulas are okay.
The folks at Maker's Mercantile told me that Addis do not need to be lubricated. I'm so perplexed and frustrated that my second handle has broken. They say I'm turning it wrong. I am not. Where you grease the needles does not touch the yarn.
