For anyone who is interested, I wear a size 8 shoe and I did 35 rows after the ribbing and then after that, I did 40 rows from the heel to the toe. It comes about mid-calf.
Thank you!
Jeanne, was your yarn about the same thickness as Shelley used in the video?
Would this fit a size 8.5 shoe or is it a tight fit?
@@juliaboose4414 Ii was a 4 weight worsted

This is such a clear tutorial. I’ve always been intimidated by the oh-so-scary heel turn, but you manage to make it achievable. Thank you!
I’m so glad to hear that! Thank you! 😊
This is a GREAT video! I feel like we I am not well equipped to make a beautiful pair of socks!! Thank you
@@jennigranville1387 Thank you Jenni! Follow me step by step and you can do it. 🙂
You're a sweet lady! My husband just bought me an Addi, and I'm so excited to receive it in the mail!!
Thank you 🥰 Hope you enjoy it!
Love it! Short rows on the Addi. Best technical video I've seen!
Thank you 😊
I did it! Oh my gosh it’s gorgeous and easy ! It was my tension. THANK YOU! It’s my first Addi project. If you write a book I’ll buy it! You’re a genius and easy to understand. ❤️
Hahahaha! I have no clue how to write a book! ❤️
Omg thank you so much for this video. I just got my 1st Sentros for Christmas. A 22 needle and a 48 needle. 1st thing I made was 2 tube socks but wanted to make socks with heels. I found this video and I'm so excited.
Yay!! I am so glad you got both sizes. You can do endless possibilities with both.
When you make a pair post it in my FB group so I can see. 😍
This is the best sock video I’ve found. You really take your time to clearly show what should be happening on the machine to watch for errors. It’s also the clearest version of fixing dropped stitches I’ve found. The others move too fast to see all the moves.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that. Please help me out and share it in the groups you are in. 🥰
This was very inspiring. I just started with addi 22 needle and want to do this. Thanks
Thank you and your very welcome!
I have just come across your channel and your long tail cast on demonstration is so clear and easy to follow. I have placed an order for the Addi king size and also the smaller addi which you are using in this video. I am so keen to get started. Greetings from the U.K.
Awe, that is so great!! Thanks for watching and subscribing! 🥰
Please come over and join my FB group.
Wonderful tutorial, filled with tips and tricks!!👏🏻👏🏻 thank you Shelley.
The heel....you are a genious ... thank you... can't wait to do it...
Have fun!
You are a genius working this out. Thank you so much for such a fantastic tutorial.
Glad it was helpful!
Thank you so much for watching! ❤️
Fabulous! Can't wait to try this.💜💜💜
It’s a lot of fun! It really is!!
Thank you for this video. I love knitting socks. Can't wait to try them on the Sentro.
Please show us in my FB group 😍
you are a great teacher,
Thank you so much! 🥰
Always learning aren't we. 💖💖👍👍💖💖
We sure are!
Very through and understandable instructions!
Thank you. I’m going to buy an addi!
Thank you 🥰
Fabulous! Can't wait to try this. Thank you so much for the video. Great instructions I enjoy very much.💜👍
You are so welcome!😊
1st go ive lost some stitches in the 2 rounds in the middle of the heal, but i get the ribbing and how the heal works now, just need to "watch my loops" next time 😍
Wonderful! Try again and you will get it. Please post your work in my FB group.
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet oh i will, but i am not on facebook. I can email you the pictures.
Sorry, I don’t give out my email. I’m sure they are beautiful.
Merci beaucoup passer de bonnes fêtes de fin d'année
You are very welcome!
I love your videos. Very informative ❤️ thank You so much for sharing your knowledge ❤️
Thank you so much! 🥰
Great instructions, tips and video!! You are amazing!
🥰
So interesting but beyond my skill level. I very seldom wear socks and my husband's foot is huge so I think I will stick to buying them.😂
If I can do it, you can do it! Seriously!
It just takes practice. Make a pair just to improve your skills. Then show me in my FB group. 😊
Thank you! I am looking forward to try!
Your very welcome 😊
Just finished my first sock on the machine (I have hand knitted 3 pair).
I cranked 36 rows after the heel and it's not quite long enough for my 7 - 7 and a half size foot. Another 1 or 2 rows would do it i think. I'm using a dk acrylic yarn.
Thanks for the tutorial Shelley ❤
(Edited to change 'have have knitted 3 pair' to read correctly as 'have hand knitted 3 pair')
Don’t take it apart. Attach it back into your machine and add as many rows as you want.
Look for my video on how to attach your work back onto the machine.
Put a guide row in with a contrasting colour to help you find the row of stitches to add onto the needles.
Thanks for the suggestion but I'd already closed it up and had sewn the toe closed really well, so a bit too tricky to undo that to put it back on the machine. I agree that lifelines are very useful for that kind of thing.
The socks I hand knit use german short rows for both the heel and the toe and you've got me wondering whether there's a way to do the toe on the machine using the gsr technique you demonstrate in this video. Difference is they start at the toe with a provisional cast on, so I'm not sure how to replicate that on the machine; might have to experiment a bit.
Thanks again for the tutorial and excellent instructions.
Never mind, just found Sylvie's tutorial on which you've mentioned yours is based/inspired by.
My pleasure 🙂
beautiful
Thank you 😊
Thank you for doing these. I so want to make them. I can’t use my machines right now but after thanksgiving I will have time. I truly want to make a sweater that fits but have no idea how big. I see a lot on the internet but sadly I’m a larger lady, but short and the ones I see would never fit. If I make it so it fits me, the shoulders will be to my elbows. Not sure how to do gauge as I’m not much of a hand knitter. Ideas welcome.
I’m not a sweater expert. So
Sorry.
Hi Shelley, Thank you for the thorough teaching in this great sock video! If we casted off with waste yarn….would it work to do the Kitchener closure for the toes?
You would have a square toe but that’s a great idea.
I should try that. 💕💕💕
Thanks
My pleasure!
I did this with a Sylvie Rausch(?) video a few years ago, must revisit with your video!
I learned part of it from her as well.
I also knew how to do a heel from loom knitting so it came with no problem to me.
I thought I would do it in English.
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet Thank you!
genius!
🥰
Kann man diese auch mit 48 nadeln 🤔finde sie wunderschön ❤
I can’t read what you saying but if you are asking if you can make it on a 48 needle then sorry - no you cannot. I make my Christmas stockings on the bigger machine. Find that on my channel.

Hi there!
Very nice socks 🧦 ❤ 👍 BIG YARN HUGS 🧶
Awe, thanks! Hugs back at ya!

Hi neighbor!
😊
Is it possibile to somehow reduce number of stitches at the end of work to not have such big gather in toe section? I know how to do it on circular needles, but I have no idea how to make that on machine. Btw. Great work with the heel - it's almost exactly as in circular neeedles but waaay faster 😍
Hi there! I think it would be possible for sure. I haven’t done it though.
You could also not pull it so tight at the toe and then seam it across. (Hope that makes sense).
Grapes tutorial thanks but just wanted to know when you're knitting the hill do you switch to panel mode or do you continue in tube mode.?
I'm going to make a practice s watch just for the heel to start off but will need to adapt it for 32 needle machine because I don't like how the sock is so stretched out when made on 22 needles. I have tiny feet but quite chunky calfs. So far I have tried just knitting the calf on the machine and knitting the rib heel and foot by hand, or knitting a tube sock on the machine and opening sone stitches to hand knit a heel. I always shape the toe by hand though and will continue to do that.
@@annamae859 hi there! I keep it n circular mode. 🙂
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochetthat you, I will have a practice run thus evening x
@@annamae859 you can do it! 🙂
I love your videos. I keep dropping my stitches when I go back and forth 🤨 any suggestions
Try a bit tighter tension. Make sure you watch as ever needle passes the yarn guide and make sure the loop is down over the two red teeth before the needle picks up the new yarn.
therre are so many machines can u use the 48 one to make these or has to be a 22
Has to be the 22.
Love your projects. 😀When you mention a project take a certain number of balls of yarn , typically how many skeins of yarn is that? Is a ball a skein?
So sorry! I am going to start putting the yarn and the amounts in the description under the video.
Yes, when I say a ball I mean a skein.
When doing the short rows, do you switch to panel setting, or do you just wind the handle backwards?
I do not switch
Thank you! It was just a bit out of camera range.😊
So sorry about that.
Hi Shelley, I am just making these, and have a ?? on the heel part. On the right hand side of the black needle, you do a clockwise turn, but on the left hand side, although you said it is a clockwise turn, I am thinking it is anti clockwise? Can you confirm please? (15:48 on the video)
I actually give it a clockwise turn on both sides. Honestly….I don’t think it matters. You just need the loop. 😊
Do you do hand knitting?
Very little! I wish I was better.
Ensina a fazer meias e sapatinhos de bebê ❤
I will eventually I hope! 🥰
So I made a sock for my son. He has huge feet for a teen of age 13. Now the heel did not want to work with his feet. It was fine for me though since it was a size 13 sock for a 13 year old teen, it was big on me. I'm not sure what foot size on males this would be good for. Lol but I think since women have more slender feet that possibly if you dont have a thick foot around the heel area like they have you measure when hand knitting, that this might be a big tough for some males. I'll measure my sons foot in that area later and edit this comment and then measure mine as well. Other than that it took me two times to manage the ribbing. I went back 11 instead of 12 bc I kept flubbing it somehow. Lol
I agree… the 22 needle is best for a female size foot.
@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochetI like them though. Nice to have on and if I got to walk outside, I'll just put on my regular slippers over these bc the sock doesn't make it odd. And they're nice for bed too. I sleep with socks in winter. It gets cold and my feet don't like to stay warm in bed. Lol
These are good ones to sleep in for
sure!
Could you please tell me the difference between the regular 22 needle addi and the professiona lplease?
Addi Express “King” has 46 needles
Addi Express “Professional” has 22 needles
Thankyou but there seems to be a 22 needle addi express and a 22 needle addi express professional. I was wondering the difference between these two@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
I have never heard of that.
They are the same thing. Just said differently.
Thankyou so much@@koalaknitsandknacksaddicrochet
Can I do this in panel mode coz I do not have a 22 pin machine and they are not very easy to come by in my country
I am sorry, but I haven’t got a pattern for that. I think it would be quite hard.
Great sock thank you what weight is that yarn you are using?
Thank you. 4 weight
How do you keep coming up with all this stuff?
My mind doesn’t stop! Lol
Do u have a pattern like for a baby 🧦 or bootie
Sorry, I don’t.
My needles keep breaking on the heel row?
Not sure why that would happen. Are you using yarn that is too thick ?
No it’s regular l love this yarn from hobby lobby. It’s happened with two try’s now. Do I always turn clockwise for the loops for heel maybe that was it?
Maybe your tension is too tight. It’s very hard to know without seeing. I can’t imagine why a needle is breaking.
Make sure your switch on the side of the machine is in circular mode.
Has anyone broken needles making these socks? Made 3 pairs without any problems but today 2 broken needles 🤷♀️
No I have not. Needles are not hard to replace. I hope you figure it out easily. 🥰
