- Officials revealed new information on March 27, 2024, following a deadly bus crash in Bastrop County.
Texas DPS confirmed to KVUE that the vehicle driven by Ryan Wallace was a 2024 Hyundai, not a Dodge Charger, as authorities detailed during their preliminary investigation.
The investigation into the violent crash involving a cement truck and Hays CISD school bus remains under investigation, but DPS confirmed to KVUE that no charges have been filed at this time.
The new information comes as KVUE has obtained video of the crash from the school district. Five-year-old Ulises Rodriguez, a student at Tom Green Elementary School, and Wallace were killed in the crash after the concrete truck veered into the westbound lanes of State Highway 21.
Footage of the crash shows the concrete truck collide with the bus, which was carrying 44 pre-K students and 11 adults from the school as they returned from a field trip to a zoo in Bastrop County. Wallace was driving behind the bus, according to officials.

To those complaining that the truckers didn't all stop to help. It's better for big vehicles like the trucks to move on if their are already people stopped. You don't want to block first responders with traffic. The greatest harm can come from the best of intentions.
Good point. 😮
This is one of the hardest videos ive ever watched. Prayers for everyone involved.
Agreed !
and I'm not usually soft-hearted, but this one shattered it...
Agreed hearing the children's voices has me so upset 😢😢😢😢
the kids screaming 😔 prayers for everyone involved .. i hope the bus driver is ok too
in god name is this?
@@mollies13The complete ignorance in this comment! I so happy people are waking up and seeing how truly disgusting you lefties are! The ONLY reason you libs are sad to see children hurt is because it’s one less child for you to do horrible things to. That’s why you you changed the names to “maps” because calling them what they truly are is “offensive”
I’m very happy to see people outside the Bus helping the kids before the paramedics arrived. Civilians are always the true first responders.
Facts. More people should get basic medical training and carry non invasive IFAKs.
That first truck sped right past like nothing even happened, only some cared unfortunately....
A lot of folks look like they drove by.
@JanalynnM you move someone and hurt them more you can be sued why people don't stop
@@Ry_Guy yeah at first but near the end you see people surrounding the bus in the video.
I’m a degenerate who watches a lot of car crashes and fatal crashes to analyze them to see what went wrong, but the hardest videos to always watch is always the school bus ones. My heart drops when I see a school bus for even a moment. Those lives are too young to be taken. I do hope for all these kids well being
"Hernandez said he went into the bus’s lane because an SUV ahead of him braked suddenly." THAT 'S BS WATCH THE VIDEO
Was nothing in front of him
🙄🤦🏽♀️ was nothing!
He was high as a kite...
From what i saw from another comment he said he did take drugs before taking the road and had 3 hours of sleep what a great combination… at least he’s in jail now
That driver is a menace to society ! I can’t believe that any company would allow him to operate the concrete boom pump *very dangerous and tricky to operate* Never mind driving a 60K pound rig !
Those babies screaming 😢😢😢💔💔💔💔
I sure hope the 4 door dark pickup that zooms by the wreck stopped and helped out of camera.
Its like the top comment said if they stopped in the middle of the road (like the trucks for example) they could be blocking the road for emergencies i do hope he stopped a while after but the truckers that went by prob didn’t stop
Imagine being the type of person who drives past an overturned schoolbus with screaming children
Not everyone can render aid 🤷🏼♀️
Some ppl are disabled, some feel as though they’d just get in the way, etc.
Same exact thought popped into my head
@@Lola-2goblinsinatrenchcoat that’s not an excuse, you don’t have to be able to render aid help
Don’t get me wrong people should stop and help when something like this happens but you’ve got to think… If every person on the highway stopped to help it would be a nightmare for the first responders to be able to get to the people involved and actually help. All the vehicles crowded around the scene with people scrambling around everywhere. It would be a nightmare and could cost lives. You also have to understand that some people simply can’t handle witnessing tragedies like this. I’d rather someone who can’t handle something like this just call 911 and keep driving than try to help and their emotions/reaction get in the way of themselves and others actually helping.
@@ryanm839 Yes it actually is. There is no reason for someone who can’t actively help to be present at a scene like this. The most they can do is call 911. When something like this happens if you’re not able to actively help you’re in the way of others who can. Not to mention a physically disabled person most likely wouldn’t be able to move around efficiently which is another way for them to get in the way or for them/others to get hurt. You’re basically saying a disabled person should just stand there and traumatize themselves while they can’t do anything.
Anyone familiar with this area knows that this section of SH21 is a horrible, stressful drive. It's extremely busy for a rural highway with high speeds and tons of big-rig truck traffic.
I'm not. But I believe you. We have the same type of roads here in Texarkana, Tex. Always diesels, LOG trucks my gosh, Final Destination type roads. Not to mention, Gooseneck Trailers, cattle haulers you name it. 🫣
Roads like this should definitely have some space between the middle.... terrible design.
@Ry_Guy no they cause flooding look at the Texas farmer who land has been flooded three times by these dividers
The driver of the truck needed checked for texting ..drugs or alcohol because was nothing in front of him ! It is plain to see it's all his fault nothing else smh
How can you just drive past that and not stop
There are already plenty of people stopping. If everyone stops, traffic will back up, preventing first responder access.
How do you know they didn’t stop further down the road? We’re making a lot of assumptions
pretty easy
@@FakeNews953they’re just going of what they see. How would you assume otherwise
Liberals usually won’t stop to help people
So my question is what's happening with the driver who hit the bus. smh
As of Thursday afternoon, the investigation into the violent crash remains under investigation, but DPS confirmed to our sister station, KVUE, that no charges have been filed at this time. The story will be updated here: www.wfaa.com/article/news/local/texas-bus-crash-new-details-after-video-released/269-d7480604-9e20-4a8e-a087-3efc799dadd0
This is how my uncle was killed. The oncoming driver fell asleep and veered into his lane. No charges were filed in that case. Unfortunately accidents happen that quickly.
Charged with negligent homicide and he admitted to taking drugs the day before.
Seeing all those people running to help gave me goosebumps..
Driving a school bus is a thankless job. I drove one for 15 years. The children on the bus become your children. Some ride over an hour one way in rural areas. Hearing the screams and crying broke my heart. My heart goes out to the man's family killed in the crash. May go be with everyone involved l. ❤
Thank you dude.
While I appreciate the out poring of help for those kids nd their families, I have yet to see a single post about the driver following the bus that was killed. Their family is devastated, also, and need help coping. Please, people, don't forget about the other victims.
The bus Driver and a 5yr old passed away due to this driver. Sad it’s not much time you get to changed how things play out.bus driver tried
the bus driver didnt pass away some guy in the car behind the bus did
Poor folks. Love the real people coming to help
This is heartbreaking….. they were just singing and now…. Life is too short. Prayers for everyone involved…
This makes my heart hurt. 😢
Texas should be ashamed of themselves for still letting that man gave freedom after all those prior charges
This definitely makes my heart broken💔 those kids screaming😢 and the cries omg😭 I can’t believe this happened to them… poor babies
Oh those poor kids! Glad someone stopped to help! Truck driver crossed center line! 💔
This puts a lump in my throat and pain in my heart! I’ve got kids my youngest just turned 6 and my middle almost 10 and oldest 13 and this just terrifies me that something like this could happen. My prayers and thoughts go to the family that lost their baby. Omg and just the screaming and crying from those poor kids. Breaks my heart!
Trauma never going away and you never forget it
Our Hearts and Prayers 🙏 are with the Hays CISD parents, their children and the grieving families who lost their loved one on that tragic day. Prayers 🙏 for the bus driver and the entire Hays CISD Transportation. So much pain to endure. May that little Angel and Man who’s life’s were taken so suddenly forever RIP🙏🥲
Note the 2 trucks just drove by with out stopping. Makes one think what kind of person is in them. I have a few ideas why they did not stop.
It’s actually not good if they stopped because it would block first responders from getting there meaning more would’ve died
@@dont_know_anymoreum797 They could of stopped down the road a bit.
@@UQRXD with how big they are I doubt they would’ve been able to get to over and help and would probably be in the way of first responders
Prayer for all the kids🙏
And how those trucks gonna just drive by?
😢oh my....
It’s wild to me that anyone witnessing a school bus just get rolled can just keep driving by. I hope all the children and driver are okay, this was awful to watch, I just can only imagine living through it. 😞❤️
This is so heart wrenching.
Why does the video turn rd when the bus crashes? That's annoying.
camera lens mightve broken or something idek
When i Heard kids Scream liké that my Heart as a mom cried
Bless their ❤️’s
sheer madness! Looks like the bus must have been going 70mph when the cement truck hit it.
No it was not. My daughter works with that trasportation. They have a limit to follow i believe each bus can only go 55mph. If it goes passed that it gives a warning and beeps. And i think they have a shut off if the warning is not followed. Or dispacth comes through. But no bus in hays cisd can go past those limits due to it having a monitor alarm system.
as someone who knows how fast maxxforce dts can go, this definitely has to be around 40-45
Why are they still calling it a concrete truck?
I’ve been in a bad reck before and I have PTSD because of it, I prey for all of these pore babies and adults that had to go through that
People talk about the kids screaming just imagine the screams from the parents of the child who was killed
Killed a 5 year old and a driver behind the bus smh
Unbelievable
The screams of the kids broke my heart 💔😥
Although an older model bus with no seat belts, this is why they are built as tough as they are. 😢RIP
Please tell me all the children are okay???? Please!!!!!
Wallace saved a lot of souls… May he Rest In Peace
A CDL driver with a drug history. School buses without seatbelts. There are so many things wrong here.
School busses made before 2017 don't need them legally. Any bus made after 2017 has to have them.
@@ScootsMcPoot Well that's the problem. The school district doesn't care enough about student's safety to put seatbelts on their buses unless they absolutely required by law. Then they continue to run old unsafe school buses to avoid compliance with the law. And the state of Texas allowed a CDL truck driver who has already been banned by the US DOT for failing multiple drug tests to continue driving a truck in Texas. These deaths were preventable.
@@MaxZombonithe government doesn’t pay the school enough money for school buses to be replaced by newer models???????
Look how fast this video came out.
How so sad for those little children this will be forever in their memory for ever, I felt for the children when they screamed it was pure terror and they only wanted their parents to hug them.i feel for the one child that didn’t make it home how very sad.I hope the children have a speedy recovery and back home for all the love and hugs from family & friends. What’s there you say about the cement truck driver that hasn’t been said.already. It’ll be jail time.🙏🤗🥰
My grandbaby is the same age as those babies. It kills me to hear them screaming.
What's absolutely so hideous about this whole thing is that people went and drove right on by the bus after it was laying on its side exclamation point what kind of people do that?
HORRIBLE JUST HORRIBLE
Oh my
Stay off the roads !!!
Man this school bus did not have seatbelts because it's the older 2011 model
This is awful 😞
One truck kept on driving.....sad people out there
When they are issued a DL it should have a DWI and suspension already on record.
shocking !
That poor driver had no where to go. I drive school bus and I believe every bus should have seat belts. Not having them is so irresponsible. In my state they aren't in. My company actually told me I would get a ticket if I got in an accident and the kids were seatbelted. I call BS on the company.
This school bus did not have seatbelts because of a older 2011 model of this bus
did the bus catch fire
No.
This is all that drivers fault! He had nothing in front of him you can plainly and clearly see was not any reason for him to hit that bus ! He was probably texting on something or drinking and he should be charged with vehicular manslaughter period its all on video for christ sake !! He needs charged!!!
😢😢😢 so sad 💔💔 God protect all the kids
So there not going to do the video inside the bus
Two people were killed (5 year old and a chaperone); probably won't be showing it online like this, respect for family and all.
Rip 5 year old rest and peace ❤

How is it that with all the warnings about driving impaired, people still do! Need to be fully cognizant and have good vision and also not be distracted by electronic gadgets.
Unfortunately people just don't care... It's sad
Pump truck.
0:46 crashed 😳
So ssoooo...sad!!!!!!!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
That truck’s fault
The truck that kept going
wow ... this is why all cell phones should be disabled while driving. Im sure the cement truck was a distracted drive. Thank god the bus driver avoided the head on collision
If you did that, then how would I dial 9-1-1 to report the drunk driver that has already hit two cars and seems they will soon hit another? Am I to just let it go?
that cement truck driver was high
This is a glimpse of ERLC public servers for ya. /:P
roblox is nothing compared to this tbh
So why they not going to so the video inside the bus
Because no one wants to see children in distress and one who didn't survive. C'mon now...
Sorry
Sorry
But man that video was very sad rest and peace ❤
We have kids in this district. Our super said this video would go out. Since it is taxpayers money and it makes it public. But that being said that is only when our children are protected with privacy. So we thank him for letting the news cast know only those 2 videos would be sent.
Why did the videos turn pink
The camera screen turns pink when it's broken
Omfg 😮💔❗️
Bus driver overcorrected way too much too, swinging the bus to the right like that is 99% of the reason the bus flipped. It would’ve been a nasty clip but the idiot bus driver somehow made it worse by flipping the entire bus. I feel bad for the kids in this situation but this bus driver doesn’t need to be driving anyone’s kid anywhere ever again and I hope the truck driver who hit them is in jail for a long time
All the cars and trucks that kept just driving by WTF? I’m a 39 year old child free woman because I don’t like kids and don’t want any, but I would still stop to help. How about some common decency?!
There were hundreds if vehicles on that highway, You don't see a problem with them all stopping on the highway at the same time? Don't you think that would cause a bit of a problem for responding emergency vehicles? Everybody should have kept going unless 1. They had medical training. 2. Had some other skills that would be useful. If they don't have either of those, they are just rubberneckers. In which case they are the problem not the solution.
This is exactly why school buses need seatbelts of some sort
And I don’t ever remember those Texas school buses ever having seat belts for the kids. So, really, the entire state should be at fault.
Well we were told all buses would have them here in hays after this accident. My kiddos got on bus the following monday and yes they installed them,, but well they have locks on them. My son tried to work the belt and it was latched with something so it could not be put on. So they probably just did it to show parents they are in there. But for what if you cant use it🤷🏻♀️
Here’s the issue, who’s at fault when kids die in a burning bus and stuck in their seat belts? That’s the whole debate regarding this
As a member of the community this tragic incident affected, I truly wish you’d done as our local new stations & cut the audio in this. Everyone needs to know of this horrible incident, but my friends & neighbors don’t need to hear this horror!!
It's just the truth, although not nice to hear.
@@Word569 I get that, see your point, and my logical side doesn’t disagree. As many awful body cam or bystander videos with audio as I’ve seen, I imagine I don’t feel differently than a lot of other friends/family, this one just hits me harder because the kids were so terribly young.
I do appreciate your insight. Have a great evening!
@@Word569 and honestly, I am more upset that the driver of the charger isn’t getting the attention he deserves. He died too, and it was 100% not his fault.
What bad reaction time on the part of the bus driver
You are a KNUCKLEHEAD. The bus driver did the best in not flipping the bus unfortunately that drug fueled truck driver did it.
Looked to me too , that the bus driver didn't move more to the right as quickly as it was possible.
Head on collisions are terrifying. I can see a woman freezing up more than a man. But its hard to see the hazard & respond to it when the vehicles are closing on at 100 mph or more!
The closing speed was over 140 mph. Reports are the speed limit as 70 in this area, but the closing speed is still 100 if the limit was 50. and, just eyeballing it, it looks like a 60 mph zone which = 120 mph closing speed. Swerving too hard would only make it worse. Since not a direct head on, trusting that the bus was built even more solidly than cars is logical. And the bus held up very well. It just got hit in a front angled crash at 60 - 70 mph. and pretty basically held together. You folks weren't there. Are you SURE you would not have been surprised?
@@davidbeckenbaugh9598 no one said anything about being surprised.... I've said the reaction looked too delayed. , it should have been automatic , to move to the right much sooner
