Zippo hinges will last a long time if you don’t abuse them

They'll also last longer if you don't do anything to them that attracts dust, dirt and pocket lint, like oiling it.

I've just started my zippo collection and I have three lol. But I watched you when I was younger and broke. But everything I do on my channel I do in your footsteps. So it's definitely your fault I spend my whole paycheck on Zippos lol. But keep up the good work.

Just wanted to say thanks SO MUCH!!! -I just tightened Ash up a lil bit- I remember ya said Armors are like that. Helped immensely!
As well as the advice from the old channel's lid gap vid, since it created a gooooood bit of overbite.

Haha yeah it is one hell of a dance tightening up that hinge. I just did mine the other week. Dropped my lady love armor with the lid open. Wouldn’t even shut. Was a lot of back and forth. Micro adjustments until u get it

@@Zippofanatic77outdoors I’m doing well, thank you. Been away from YT for a while during the holidays, and I don’t always comment on a video, but you are one of my favorite YT channels. One thing I noticed with my 1941 brushed brass is it doesn’t seem to get as much patina as my brass Zippo from many years ago, over 20 or 30.. Almost like they are using a different brass alloy today. Or maybe it is because I can’t stop using and handling the 1941 replica. I swear, I do not know why Zippo changed from the 1941 design. It must have been for manufacturing reasons.

Have you ever tried thicker gauge pin instead? Like 1.1-1.2mm instead of the standard 0.9mm? I know that will stretch the rings a bit but seems a good way to get rid of any play.

Excellent vid. Yeah I've been using mineral oil on my hinge for years with a small brush. Use it on my Spyderco and its blade too; that way i can cut my 🍕🍕 and not be eating regular knife oil 😂
Mineral oil will keep double-edge razor blades sharp way longer too if you like to shave old school with a 1950's Gillette like me 😂

Oh... I just whack the hinge with a hammer on the outside of the case with the lid closed. That squeezes the hinge around the pin. Surprisingly, that works for a good long time. However, your method looks a lot better, and I'll be using that method in the future.

Thanx for the tip.. I’ve always had zippos but they never last more than 2 days, maybe due to the hot weather here causing fluid to evaporate faster.. tried ur bacon sandwich and now I’m on my 4th day going strong! 👍

just ran across your channel so i don;t know if you know it but you can take the flint out of a spent full sized bic lighter and use it in a zippo! granted you may have to leave the screw out a bit til the flint wears down but a bic flint will last at least 3 zippo flints if not 4 or 5! i'm at the point where i'm just salvaging bic flints i ain't bought zny zippo flints 3 years! and frankly if you can find any, ronson flints last at least 50% longer than zippo flints at least in my zippos!

Keith, take a look at the bottom of your Ronson can. It says "Zippo Manufacturing Company". Zippo now claims they are identical and not only come from the same facility but also from the same tank. The article can be found on the internet.

Very good illustration on what causes bad lid Alignment. I just purchased the Red "Retro Boxtop" design directly from Zippo. It's absolutely brand new/unused. It came with a horrible "overbite" on the side and terrible "lid gap" on the side of the lighter with the lid closed. Very bad quality control. The lighter case is red and I can see the chrome insert inside while looking directly at it.
