  • In this video I am taking a closer look at the Vertex M100A. A revival of one of the original dirty dozen watches. This watch took me by surprise, if you are on the lookout for a killer field/tool watch ... even brands like omega, JLC, IWC haven't done a reissue this good...
    Did I miss anything or forgot to mention things. Let me know in the comments.
    If you enjoy my videos I'd appreciate you taking a minute to like & subscribe to the channel. That would really help to hopefully grow the channel and my motivation.

    Great review. I’ve owned the original manual-wind M100 for almost two years now and can honestly say, the “new” never wears off. It remains one of my favorite watches ever, and sees a lot more wrist time than anything else in my box.

    I'm such a lover of lumed numerals on a dial. Loved them since I was a child. I was recently offered the Rolex explorer 124270 and turned it down because I had a feeling a better field watch existed and this was on my radar. HOWEVER with 6.3 inch wrists I've been looking for something in the 36-38mm range with lug to lug under 48 (which is my max before I hit an over hang).
    @vertex if you're reading these please consider making a smaller watch maybe a manual wind or screwdown or keep the automatic but just thinner and smaller for proportionality sakes for those who can't pull this off. I know not buying the Rolex was a smart decision because you guys make the best dials for field watches!!!! This thing is stunning. Everything about it but the size. Lugnwidth, crystal, proportions are great just smaller 😅🙏
    Please and thank you ❤

    Integrated seconds hands with center dial had a higher cost, so the procurement department opted for cost saving measure and ordered sub seconds dial as well as steel cases. People for some reason forget that these watches were tools and not high horological marvels. The current reproduction from Benrus, 3061, Bulova Hack, Hamilton Khaki, and this example have far superior build quality then those original ones.

    Great video. Thanks for it. I always liked these when they first came out several years ago as a manual wind only. However, it always bummed me out that you could only get one if you have a military service background or special invitation or endorsement. And, i had neither 😢.
    Glad with these new automatic versions they finally opened up sales to the general public. So glad, i bought one not too long ago.. received it about 2 weeks or so ago. Love it! Having been on the search for a Dirty Dozen style watch for quite a while, this was always the one that stood out at being the best looking.
    Unfortunately, it happens to be the most expensive of all the modern Dirty Dozen style watches available currently. Oh, well.. i knew this had to be the one that would be the one and only to get. And, I wasn't going to waste time trying anything else.
    This is the best modern iteration of a Dirty Dozen watch and it has legit ties to the original back to ww2. The quality is definitely there and that dial with those 3D lumed Arabic numerals!
    Like the watch, the Vertex bracelet is also a bit pricey. But, I wouldn't mind getting the matching bracelet... if only.
    I'm just concerned if the male end links might possibly make it a bit wide on my 7" wrist? More so, I am not a fan of the clasp they are using with it. I've owned that type before and they can seem a bit long and I don't like the extension mechanism. It's usually has sharp edges where it opens up, don't like seeing the extension piece, it breaks the flow from bracelet to clasp, and there's way too much for a microadjust.. I know, it's more for larger extensions over a dive suit or some kind of clothing. It's designed in such a way I'd never use it. The lumed logo on it is cool. But, I might investigate to see if a different clasp can be swapped out.
    Truth be told, this style of watch looks best on a NATO, other passthrough straps and 2-piece straps over a bracelet. But, I am still a bracelet guy and always try to get a matching bracelet option for a watch if available just to have and use from time to time.
    I may opt for the rubber strap as it looks good and every says it feels quality and comfortable with the watch.

    • @BowlOfSalmon
      @BowlOfSalmon  Год назад +1

      Thx for this update extra feedback 🙏 the bracelet isn’t a must for me on this watch. It couldn’t convince me. The extension is handy when needed but will make that clasp longer. The rubber on the other hand. Yes yes and yes

    I was fortunate to pick up one of these on the secondary market for a fair price and I have to say it's VERY good. I thnk the selection of straps you've got there is excellent. The straps that came with mine are OK, but I would have loved to get a rubber strap. The bracelet? Hmmm? Feels wrong for this watch to me.
    Indeed, my only complaint would be the price. At full retail, I don't think I would have made the stretch required to get one.
    Additionally to that while I appreciate the value of a limited edition, maybe they've painted themselves into a corner by limiting production to such a low number of units? Double the number unuts, lower the price 15%, and they'd still sell out, while padding the bottom line. As it stands, their options for brand growth are more limited. 😢

      @Bowl Of Salmon I spent 35 years calculating manufacturing costs. The majority of the cost is in development/startup. Once you produce the first piece/unit, the cost falls sharply for each additional unit. Eventually, the startup cost is spread out so much that it's negligible.

    The watch is awesome. However I don't know how I feel about the bracelet. I think the metal bracelet steals the spotlight away from the watch dial. If I really want a metal bracelet, I will go for after-market straight-end bracelet.

    I enjoyed your review tons, but I disagree my Glashutte, Rolex, JLC, Girard Perregaux, GS, A Lange Sohne etc all have zero feedback or resistance when winding, in fact cheaper movements like the one here Sellita SW260-1 feedback and resistance is due to the type of hairspring and smaller coil which is why its only 38 hours of power reserve, this watch should have the new Sellita movements with the larger and powerful mainspring barrels like Sinn are using on there pieces. If you wound a Patek it's silky smooth with zero resistance or rather resistance kicks in around 15 turns or so. I can make 20 turns on my Grand Seiko Ryusendo manual watch. after quit a few years resistance is an indication of possible service as wear and tear/drying of oil and such has taken its toll.

    3000€ for a field watch? No way. Way too expensive for a tool-watch. I bet the military would not issue these to their soldiers today. Yes quality and craftsmenship ... I can dial up quality so high, it will get too expensive and bring only little to no benefit.

    • @BowlOfSalmon
      @BowlOfSalmon  2 месяца назад

    • @ms1595
      @ms1595 2 месяца назад

      No. its not a bang for the buck. Its a nice but expensive watch. I can easily buy a nice watch for under 1000$, like a Hamilton. Get the look and the quality and pocket the other 2k. Lets be honest here, the movement inside won't be anything special. Swiss made, sure but it will be used in other watches as well. Is it a in house build movement? Being a millionare, you can wear a 3k time-piece daily but I bet most viewers here aren't. At this price, its luxury and a field watch is not luxury. I'd say Vertex itself is in a weird position. Their watches come at a price starting at 3k but yet the brand is kinda unknown. Sure there is a heritage and watch enthusiasts know the name maybe but I bet: If you walk down the street and show people the Vertex. They will call you a mad man when you tell them the price.
