3:55 the way Sephiroth's sword slices through steel like butter is always so satisfying. Dude's strength is unreal.
That's part of the beauty I love about how he fights. It's not even the fact that he can do that, its how he does it and why. Drops out of view, lowers your guard mentally, raises tension, and then suddenly, fast, he comes at you. Despite being ready for a fight he makes his enemies suddenly feel like they are overwhelmed and unprepared and slicing the cannon, he does just to make them feel like he is still coming and Nothing is going to stop it. Using his strength to make a point while doing something so incredible so quickly, rather than directly at his opponent.
His entire style, despite his power, is based on fear and intimidation yet kept simple so that his enemies not only have to worry about what he will do next, but also what else he COULD do.
Angeal, Cloud, Genesis and Zack aren't given enough credit sometimes. Fighting Sephiroth isn't just about over powering or out fighting him. It is a mental battle that many lose because they can't stand up to WHAT he is doing as well as what he is capable of.
@@Cloudsouth beautifully said.
@@___8241 Thanks, appreciate it. I love the way fighting styles are used in all media. Can speak volumes, but where Sephiroth or anyone from FF7 was concerned I was super happy with it. Going from the original game they had to invent entire fighting styles to fit the characters and Sephiroths was done beautifully. Perfectly actually. Everything people associate with him, sudden fear, overwhelming awe and incredible power are all condensed into simple movements matching his frame and weapon yet factoring his power and intent. Its like poetry in motion when styles are so perfectly done to a character.
@@Cloudsouth yea his fighting style is very similar to griffith
@@useless1Malenia from Elden Ring
Genesis - “I’ll take sephiroth alone”
Sephiroth “Alexa play my theme tune”
XD
Lmao 🤣 🤣 🤣
Genesis: Aw, f***k!
Genesis: "Why is there Latin singing playi...OH SHIT!!"
Oh and cut to the singing please, I want to finish shit quickly
I love how this game showed that sephiroth was just a regular guy who wanted to just spend time with his friends. People say it took away from cloud and sephiroth but it really shows how both of their origins made them who they became. Sephiroth was popular and bared the wait of the world on his shoulders, but his friends where his escape and way to have fun. Loosing them and finding out the truth broke him.
*WEIGHT of the world; LOSING them

His is a beautiful comment that expresses a concept that I share, perhaps he isn't even English, like me... I'm Italian, maybe I'm doing the grammar wrong.
@@Tovakin92 Maybe so, maybe not. It's a bit of an OCD for me though I'm not apologizing for it. I'm also prepared to be corrected myself. I take proper English grammar seriously, at least the terms of writing.
Ahh, yes, the fight we've seen a hundred times, and now, we're gonna see it 1 more time, in HD
only 1 more time? for me, its at least 10k more times
You mean; We've seen it countless times in HD. One more time, in 4K for the 'Gram.
It's actually insane how a cutscene made in 2007 still hold up to this day.
huh? I thought they also remade the cutscene
... or am I tripping?
@@gagatoran964 It's the exact same cutscene.
@@Mrhostil95 There's no need to remake a perfect scene.
I think they alter some parts, it doesn't feel the same as the 2007 one. The 2007 is better imo.
@@gagatoran964 they remastered it, but that is about all. You can tell it is an older cutscene though, but still is nice.
4:28 angeal only uses one hand to stop genesis, but has to use his whole body to withstand sephiroth’s attack. sephiroth wasn’t even going full force (probably). it’s a small detail that i really like, just shows how superior he is.
Seph started to crank it up when he realized Genesis wasn't holding back.
I noticed too, it deflected back, I thought it sephiroth at first 😅
But sephiroth cared for these two as they were his only friends who he could truly relate too.
I love how Sephiroth was taking it easy but when Genesis attacks Angeal, he got pissed and starts fighting seriously
Yeah! Its a detail that so few miss! Sephiroth also doesnt smile afterwards. Its clear he got piiiised
@@blackbird7781 Angeal also got mad bc Sephiroth put way too much strenght in the last attack.
Why do people keep thinking he was upset at Angeal getting attacked? I'm looking at this frame by frame from 3:45 and Sephiroth still has a smile/smirk on his face.
@@megazerosaber People like making their own head cannon, even though it clearly isn't true lol.
Sephiroth did start fighting seriously because his ass was getting kicked by Genesis. So ofc the logical decision is to fight more seriously.

They change this line
Original is
"You destroy us all"
It change it to
"You destroy this place"
Yes I notice this too and the line make sense now
More fitting than the original, considering what those psychopaths can survive
@@demonprincess9680 Suppose that’s fair lol. Tbh I could see sephiroth destroying that training center yet Angeal and Genesis’ clothes likely wouldn’t even be dirty
The japanese version made much more sense and better. In japanese version, instead of "Is that the best you can do?", Sephiroth actually said "How about putting that toy sword away?". Which seems to be a more fitting dialogue. The original also used "You destroy this place".
@@AimanYazamart Okay weeb.
to be honest among the three of them angeal's appearance is more like a villain compared to genesis and sephiroth... but the fact is he is the kindest among them as he is the one who look after them especially zack fair.. to zack angeal is not only his señior but also his mentor and saviour
one of the best rendition of One winged angel, who knew a triangle would make it sound so menacing
Man you can really tell the original sephiroth voice understood that sephiroth was feeling nostalgic and put in his voice. New just reads the line flat. Crisis core had robotic anime voice direction but you could tell the actors understood how to play within that limitation. The charm of og Zack was that at times you could tell the line delivery was extremely authentic, which I suspect he wasn't given good enough directions to do that, he's just a talented Character actor. New Zack plays too much into the characters archetype so he ends up sounding too big all the time.
1 good example is Angeal was early into the game. Most people feel, me included, this new one is doing an equal quality job. However when he tells the tale of dumbapples, og sounded nostalgic and when he corrected Zack that he was poor he said it in a "you can't be serious " tone. New angeal....well he sure did read those lines.
I'm just gonna change my mantra, redubs with new actors several years later won't matter if they're "good", we literally have the original, the new stuff doesn't magically live in a vacuum.
There's only 1 old ass game I'd want a redub of and even that I can't really say I'm entirely for because it would effect later games and anime, the games are .Hack vol. 1-4
Im concerned the only reason we don't have the 4k version of advent children is because someone really wants to redub it.
This sucks because the gameplay is so amazing but the voices consistently worse. Maybe if I only played crisis core once, years ago, and never revisited a single visual I'd think nothing of the new voices.
But that's just it, I have. So I'm not gonna be as nice as the people who clearly can't remember or can't exactly pinpoint what exactly is off. And again. The original was a hot mess. But grafting a new dub on top of old robotic line delivery is a recipe for distaster.
Totally agree.. the dubbing is poor. The psp version is much2 better.
I only played the original once when it came out and I prefer the original voices. I do watch this scene sometimes though.
I agree, the crazy thing is that he sounds even worse than how he sounded in FFVII remake, same thing with Zack's VA. I can't really hear neither of them, it's like they're reading straight from the paper without feeling the character they're voicing at all. I'm probably going to play this in JP
my thoughts exactly; they could've really tried with the dub this time.
Sephiroth’s only friends
Never thought I'd see the day when I can watch this marvelous scene with an even greater quality.
Till this day 3:49 fucking blows my socks off. The absolute confidence in sephiroth to decent, just to blast off with his music.
"Stop! You'll destroy this place"
"That's no way to talk to a hero!'
The insanity of this scene is that, having seen his strength in Remake's finale, with how much power he has there and he is holding back even then, toying with Cloud and the gang, then just how much is Sephiroth holding back here?
Hands down, has to be the hardest cutscene in FF history 🔥🔥🔥
Angeal sounds just like the old VA
Yeah Genesis sounds close but Angeal is the only character who sounds like a 1:1 match with the original
@@uNsT0p4b1e and then you have Sephiroth lol
Is it me or in the original Angeal went to stop genesis he said "enough! yourl destroy us all" but now its "enough! yourl destroy this place" or am I the only die hard fan that noticed that?
Angeal's VA isn't bad. The rest of the voice cast... Jesus Christ, please get the originals back.
One thing I'll always love about this fight is after Sephiroth leaps in the air to retaliate against Genesis volley of hits, he attacks Genesis back with exactly 8 hits.
Angeal voice line at 3:23 is different from the original version ff7 crisis core PSP
Stop, you'll destroy us all (ff7 crisis core)
Stop, you'll destroy this place (ff7 Reunion)
I'm sorry, but the OG cutscene was goated. Better voice acting, better sword sounds, just superior in every way.
Maybe it's just because they're using obviously different voice actors, but it kind of sounds like they're half-assing the lines. I only got to watch videos of the original, but they sounded like they had so much passion for the game itself then. I hope the entire remake isn't like this
To be fair to them, unlike Geroge Newbern and the others, this is the new VAs second time as these characters, some of them it's their first time and are relatively new to voice acting
@@iamalbertwesker2 also it seems like they're asked to do the same as the previous VA, that could explain why most of their lines don't feel natural
The second theme played in this video, "Truth Behind the Project" is my favorite theme in all of Crisis Core. Probably because I love violin/piano themes, and they do such a great job making it intense with that song.
Wow... over ten years about this scene~ i love it!
I like this Sephiroth's design more than in Remake, especially the belt which is simpler in CC
I just love the fact that sephiroth cut that metal as if it was butter.
definitely miss George. Newbern voicing Sephiroth along with Zack Gomez voicing Zack and Steven Burton-Cloud. I’ve use to those voices for the longest time. Sad I ended up missing the Sacramento anime con, which had George Newbern and Steve Burton there.
1:33 They still didn't change it for "whatever."
That's the first time I saw the updated version! Thanks for uploading it! I'm getting the game on release date!
Genesis: "This world needs a new hero"
Sephiroth: 👁️👄👁️
The triad that never should have been broken
I love how they Kept all the CGI cutscenes the same, and just went back and fixed continuity Errors, like reverting the Hilt of the Buster Sword
I swear genesis voice sephiroth's voice should have remain the same zacks new voice is starting too grow on me even tho the original voice is the best
Im so glad crises core got a remake one of the only games i would replay on the psp constantly
did they touch up the cg? I can't tell the difference. Should have been Remake Intergrade ending quality
That man Seph don’t even movie his other arm lol he a beast
Glad to see they kept the best cutscene in the game near enough the same.
This got me thinking over the yrs, Enix should create a game of Sephi in his prime and glorious days. I think it would be epic prequel 😤
I love how genesis still has features of Gackt....i hope i can put the game in japanese as well
Sephiroth proves that a person isn’t bad, only their actions can be.
Graphics look beautiful.
Sephiroth’s only two friends. And both of them have similar backgrounds and history with him.
All three were Shinra experiments, Genesis was the failed experiment, Angeal was close to the ideal monster ‘design’, and Sephiroth was the perfect monster.
And all three rebelled after discovering the truth about their origins. Though each one took their responses differently.
- Genesis was desperate of a cure for his degradation, and blamed Shinra for his illness. Doing whatever it takes to cure his degradation.
- Angeal became the very thing he fights against, a monster. Believing that a monster like himself is unworthy of having honor, and dignity. And he refuses to live the rest of his life as a monster.
- And Sephiroth of course, wanted vengeance on the entire world and all of humanity. Believing himself to be the ruler of everything, in the name of his mother.
It's almost like Shinra has always been the real villain all along...
@@willchurch8376 Are they not?
@@willchurch8376 of coz they are, and mostly Hojo
More than his friends, the two were his brothers, remember that all 3 descend from Jenova.
Sephiroth's mother was a genocidal alien monster
Amazing how sephiroth considered both Angeal and genisis his equals but neither of them could hold a candle to him
They outdid him in otjer ways. He trusted and counted on them as Soldier. Thats what military bonds do.
If shit hits the fan everybody is equally important for the grand outcome of things.
Sephiroth trust both Angeal, and Genesis. As they were apart of Soldier, and were 1st class as he was. But just as you said neither of them could really hold battle to Sephiroth in combat, the transition over to Sephiroth’s theme music. And how easily he pushed Genesis back let you know that if Sephiroth was out for blood he could handle Genesis, and Angeal with relative ease.
Genesis was always the magic dude, and Angeal was the people person.
They were comrade's, they all knew Sephiroth was a better fighter but they all respected each other either way.
cuz sephiroth was humble once upon a time. before that incident happened. but ya he's infinitely stronger then both gens n geal. as shown in the flashback. holding back. taking on both with just one hand. making it look effortless. while those two are desperately giving it their all. also his genetics are superior. while the other two were imperfect and deteriorate. sad. these guys were like the only friends seph ever had though...
hope the next FF rebirth seph is indeed reverting back this version.
I miss George Newborns voice. He had this deep pitch in his tone that gave sephiroth that life in his voice.
This was my first thought. I loved George Newbern’s voice. 😢
Well this one is good and gives pleasure too, but I wonder why they didn’t just keep old voices - they were perfect and matched a story and characters so much…
@@fannie-annie Square Enix (in North America at least) wanted to go with different takes on the characters as whole. Hence they replaced the English VAs.

Angeal: *stops Genesis so he won't destroy the place*
Sephiroth 5 seconds later: *destroys the place*
Ah, yes the true dynamics of a chaotic duo and their mom friend🤣🤣🤣
In the classic he says "you will destroy us all"
Don't know the one is correct match with Jap dub
@@sanadajehuty It was a line change from the original. He says that in the original too; so don't worry about the translation being wrong or anything, it was intentional.
That is an accurate description of their dynamic, Sephiroth and Genesis are the chaotic duo (with one of them being more chaotic than the other) and Angeal is the one who has to clean up their messes and stop them from causing more chaos.
@@sanadajehutyAngeal said in JP dub: "Stop that! You'll destroy the training room!"
Therefore, this version's English dub is more accurate to the original Japanese.
But they still retained some of the stuff from the old English dub like Genesis being cocky and displaying inferiority complex towards Sephiroth, and Sephiroth being silently smug and goading Genesis to fight him. In the Japanese version, Genesis just wanted to become a hero too alongside Sephiroth which Sephiroth replied with "fine with me", whereas in English Genesis wanted to replace Sephiroth and Sephiroth replied with "you sure? Come at me bro"
@@EirinYagokoro that's crazy how a unique word can change and created a lot of theory about the strength of first classes soldiers.
One detail I love in this upscaled FMV is that we can see Sephiroth’s eyes better. You can actually tell he has slit cat/snake-like pupils, whereas in the original you couldn’t really see. It adds an extra layer to Sephiroth’s body language (which was already great), and shows how a legitimately kind Sephiroth would appear to his friends.
I guess to his friends he was just that really strong sword guy with the cool eyes.
Guess the Buster Sword isn't the only thing changed in the FMV
@@zovinchen3281 I mean, he does have slit pupils in the original FMV, but it’s so blurry around his eyes that it’s honestly difficult to tell. We’re getting a much clearer view at Sephiroth’s eyes here.
You know watching this and seeing Sephiroth in his good guy days. Hes not a bad guy. I think it would have been cool to see a prequel to his hero days during the war and how he became such a beast would be awesome.
@@AL_EVOz isnt that coming in upcoming iteration
The way Sephiroth effortlessly slashes through the Mako Cannon never fails to give me goosebumps. Man is a true monster, lol!
Yet that isn't even a fraction of what he's truly capable of. THAT is the freaky part!
and he's so effortlessly dramatic the way he waited till Genesis can't see him and then slash and dash through a huge chunk of the cannon.
@@fm.burbank8461 Part of his awesome and unique fighting style. I love how they made it so right about him. Instead of just coming at an opponent he takes measures to intentionally make you doubt yourself, oppress and overwhelm you and fear every move he makes. His whole fighting style is about intimidating you effortlessly and by doing so, making you scared about not only what he will do next, but what he could ALSO do.
@@Futuretense101 Well granted this was at his weakest point in his life. Still. it's pretty impressive for some who can still be considered "human"
@@Cloudsouth And this strategy is one of the most efficent, I mean, Black Beard did the same thing to the point even knowing it was him put some ships to surrender instantly in fear of what could happen
Sephiroth's theme never gets old it still gives me goosebumps
Everytime you hear it, you know an ass-whooping is getting ready to happen
I always loved, from Advent Children on and especially in this fight, how they gave Sephiroth's fighting style the perfect touches. The way he fights is so simple and yet over whelming with the confident yet insane levels of oppression and uncertainty/surprise, he forces on his opponents. He fights not just to overwhelm you but to also scare you. Intimidate you, until no matter how powerful you are or even equal to him you are, you become unsure of yourself and stressed by him. I love it. Simple and yet again, so overwhelming. His entire style is built on fear.
The part where he drops out of view and then comes through the cannon is a perfect moment to highlight it. He makes you feel like suddenly you're in a situation you thought you were already prepared for and that nothing can stop it coming. As opposed to just coming at his enemies, he takes steps to make you doubt everything.
Well said!
he focuses on scaring the everloving shit out of his opponent rather than killing. its what makes sephiroth himself, and that detail is always overlooked
I like that they changed angeals dialogue from "you'll destroy us all" to "you'll destroy this place".

@RenaissanceElfMost def, that’s why I hope in rebirth an going forward….Sephiroth actually gets a *redemption* arc. I know he has done terrible things but, he wasn’t born evil. The real villains are Shinra, Hojo and Jenova. Sephiroth is just more so…misunderstood.

Ya, I thought so too. His tone and expression showed that he really treasured the times he had with Genesis and Angeal...seriously, SE really did it for this iconic character. DUDE THE VOICES! I feel like the way these actors deliver their lines isn't as good. I dunno doesn't sound right. Is it just me?
Man, I forgot how amazing this fight scene was.
All Hail Sephiroth
I like how the back-and-forth in this fight is Genesis pulling out the stops, enhancing his power and abilities with more and more magic... and, in the meanwhile, all Sephiroth does to counter everything Genesis throws at him is just to try a little bit harder.
This scene was so well done that after years I forgot they were in a simulation because of how serious sephiroth is as a character
I also wish mabe in the future we get a game about these three an how they became First class soldiers. That would be a pretty sick game. Playing as a young Sephiroth an end of the game he is known as the worlds strongest An number one Hero.
There is that Sephiroth focused story in the forthcoming “Ever Crisis” that touches on his youth and early days as a SOLDIER, so hopefully that will also show how he met and befriended Angeal and Genesis. Their friendship is really interesting, and I think it’s a shame they had so few scenes together.
@@Harukurochan I know that’s why really can’t wait for that 💯 I kinda wish it was it’s *own* game though. Rather then part of the “Ever Crisis” look style. @@TheKira708 I agree, it would be an awesome spin-off/prequel game! Maybe if the story is successful it’ll get an enhanced port? Though we still haven’t heard *anything* about “Ever Crisis” since the 25th anniversary stream, so here’s hoping we get an update after “Crisis Core Reunion” comes out.
i’d love that too! it’d be so nice to see the trio going on missions together and how their dynamics work. the wutai setting would be pretty interesting too
Yes that is a story that needs to be told

Nothing against these VA's, but I miss the ones from the PSP version
It seems to me that Sephiroth succumbed to himself only for a moment when he began to attack genesis. Moreover, he increased his onslaught gradually. After the Genesis moves. Plus, after the fight, he didn't look at Genesis, so as not to offend him. And that's why he turned away and showed him his back. Ie, he trusts Genesis prematurely.
The gradual increase in onslaught is a part of Sephiroths unique fighting style. Done incredibly well by the creators. His whole style is built on intimidation and to overwhelm through simplicity. As is with his gradual increase in how he comes at you. The way he fights, for instance suddenly coming through the cannon, is built on surprise and throwing you off and overwhelming you. Intimidation. Making people become concerned with not only what he will do next but what he can ALSO do. Then as he gradually increases he causes them to become desperate or start to panic with worry that it is only going to get harder. Overwhelming.
He is powerful as hell, yet he puts great effort into making sure he uses it a certain way. Simple and yet built upon creating fear. It's beautiful.
He was probably also a little ashamed that him and Genesis were lost their cool.
Seeing the scene again is really cool, but I honestly think that all of the new voices are worse than the old ones. The voice acting in general sounds much flatter here than it did in the older version of this scene.
I’m actually super impressed with Hoechlin as Sephiroth….
Edit: I know people are just used to what they know, but in 5 years people will love it.
he sounds like Nexpo the youtuber lmao
I love him as Superman and I'm glad he's career is expanding, but I don't know about him being Sephiroth. The other Superman actor, George Newbern, was really ominous, arrogant, yet divine at the same time.
Nah, it's bad.
@@SliderFury1 Naaaahh
@@SliderFury1 Still fine, just not good enough in comparison
Don't get me wrong the new voices are fine but the old voices were top notch. The delivery and everything. I do hope modders would make a OG voice pack type thing for this game. It would have been perfect.
I like how they redid the sounds for the cinematic cutscenes but left them visually in tact. I'm so used to hearing the PSP cutscene sounds.
They definitely updated the visuals too since the buster sword design was changed from the Advent Children ver to the FF7R ver for this game. Its a detail I don't see many people pointing out
Still got the goosebump no matter how many times i rewatch this scene
To be honest the voice acting is pretty bad, but the sound effects improvement is 10/10
This is still one the best fantasy fight in gaming industry. Music, voice actor and cinematic, its all are perfect.
Angeal: Don't take Sephiroth lightly. (refuses to use Buster Sword)
The only thing that I don't really like is the voice acting. I am not saying this because of nostalgic reason, but the new voice acting here seems like just reading lines without any direction on the acting.
The original voice acting was the same pretty much. It was always this bland, stiff delivery. I think the only true downgrade in Reunion is Zack. Rick Gomez actually managed to sound good.
@@Nexdex George Newbern? Fuck him right?
@@Nexdex imo, not only Zack. In this scene, all the 4 characters' tone just sound like out of place, especially Genesis' and Sephiroth's.
@@Nexdex you're not a Sephiroth fan.
@@Nexdex idiot
Seeing so much human emotion on Sephiroths face is astounding
The voice acting is killing that epic cut scene. It feels like the actors are reading if the pages and barely putting any effort into there VA.
Tyler Hoechlin is a great on-screen actor, but I'm sorry, he's a TERRIBLE voice actor. George Newbern (original Sephiroth) had already voiced animated Superman and was experienced with Voice Acting. But you can tell that Tyler is still very inexperienced with Voice Work here, and it's painfully obvious.
Sad they didn't update the CG cutscenes, but they still hold up luckily.
It looks exactly like the old FMV but the Buster sword has the remake design, so they must have made the whole thing from scratch
Nah~ cloud alone can beat them!
voice acting in the orginal was better you can tell by their intonation but graphics are better in this ofc
I think the weird voice acting of this game can in part be attributed to having to follow the already janky voice direction of crisis core
@@ellezim8136 nah even sephiroth in the remake ain't as good as the original
@@K7TZ he's a tough one to call. Sometimes he sounds great and sometimes he sounds abhorrent. Like zack lol. Sometimes he sounds really good and Sometimes he's terrible. I think sephiroths is the voice direction of crisis core cause he sounded great in ff7r. Zacks voice I think is a genuine fumble.
Feels like they are just reading from a script. There's no emotion. Sephiroth doesn't seem as threatening with the new voice actor performing these lines
Agree, genesis voice way more cooler and poetic when he spelling Loveless, but in the new one genesis sounds like reading formal dialogue with robotic tone
Game already downloaded, waiting for midnight to play.
1:42 Whats scary is he's side glancing before he acts, and whats terrifying is sometimes hes not even looking at them
so he's got his eye on them no matter what they do.
George Newbern had that calm yet stoic voice that suited Sephiroth so well and Rick Gomez brought the liveliness that suited Zack.
I miss the old VA's, the new ones ain't it.
I feel you. They sound robotic and monotone which makes their lines feel forced. It's such a bummer.
Everyone else has been solid enough that I don't really notice. Zack, however, is tough to listen to.
@@J-Hue Oh 100%, the voice actors for every other character in the Remake were amazing, it's just those 2 that missed the mark by a long shot.
@@J-Hue so is Sephiroth
i just realized that genesis is a red mage
The voice acting is different. But I'm surprised they managed it pretty well.
Even Genesis smugness is even better here.
In all honesty, it sounded a little half-assed in the beginning part of the video. But, maybe that's because it has obviously different voice actors than the original
I think genesis’s new VA is the closest to the original, and slightly better
@@Xgamerwoo I didn't know he got a new va until now
Still liked the old va of Genesis reading loveless and the part when he said “that’s no way to talk a hero”. While the old Sephiroth va intonation is much more cold imo. Very distinguishable but it is what it is.
