I always loved, from Advent Children on and especially in this fight, how they gave Sephiroth's fighting style the perfect touches. The way he fights is so simple and yet over whelming with the confident yet insane levels of oppression and uncertainty/surprise, he forces on his opponents. He fights not just to overwhelm you but to also scare you. Intimidate you, until no matter how powerful you are or even equal to him you are, you become unsure of yourself and stressed by him. I love it. Simple and yet again, so overwhelming. His entire style is built on fear. The part where he drops out of view and then comes through the cannon is a perfect moment to highlight it. He makes you feel like suddenly you're in a situation you thought you were already prepared for and that nothing can stop it coming. As opposed to just coming at his enemies, he takes steps to make you doubt everything.
he focuses on scaring the everloving shit out of his opponent rather than killing. its what makes sephiroth himself, and that detail is always overlooked
The one detail I appreciate about the original is that all throughout the game you can see in sephiroth’s eyes there was still something inside him. Not sure what it is but you can see he’s not an evil person. But in the scene where he destroys nibelhime you can only see hatred and emptiness. Such great attention to detail.
4:28 angeal only uses one hand to stop genesis, but has to use his whole body to withstand sephiroth’s attack. sephiroth wasn’t even going full force (probably). it’s a small detail that i really like, just shows how superior he is.

Why do people keep thinking he was upset at Angeal getting attacked? I'm looking at this frame by frame from 3:45 and Sephiroth still has a smile/smirk on his face.
I like how the back-and-forth in this fight is Genesis pulling out the stops, enhancing his power and abilities with more and more magic... and, in the meanwhile, all Sephiroth does to counter everything Genesis throws at him is just to try a little bit harder.
How the fight really started... Sephiroth: Your Jordan's are fake. Genesis: Sephiroth you sob, I am tired of your ish 😡 Sephiroth: 😏 Angeal: Guys please don't😬 *Sephiroth vs Genesis*
It seems to me that Sephiroth succumbed to himself only for a moment when he began to attack genesis. Moreover, he increased his onslaught gradually. After the Genesis moves. Plus, after the fight, he didn't look at Genesis, so as not to offend him. And that's why he turned away and showed him his back. Ie, he trusts Genesis prematurely.
The gradual increase in onslaught is a part of Sephiroths unique fighting style. Done incredibly well by the creators. His whole style is built on intimidation and to overwhelm through simplicity. As is with his gradual increase in how he comes at you. The way he fights, for instance suddenly coming through the cannon, is built on surprise and throwing you off and overwhelming you. Intimidation. Making people become concerned with not only what he will do next but what he can ALSO do. Then as he gradually increases he causes them to become desperate or start to panic with worry that it is only going to get harder. Overwhelming. He is powerful as hell, yet he puts great effort into making sure he uses it a certain way. Simple and yet built upon creating fear. It's beautiful.
I also wish mabe in the future we get a game about these three an how they became First class soldiers. That would be a pretty sick game. Playing as a young Sephiroth an end of the game he is known as the worlds strongest An number one Hero.

The japanese version made much more sense and better. In japanese version, instead of "Is that the best you can do?", Sephiroth actually said "How about putting that toy sword away?". Which seems to be a more fitting dialogue. The original also used "You destroy this place".
Man you can really tell the original sephiroth voice understood that sephiroth was feeling nostalgic and put in his voice. New just reads the line flat. Crisis core had robotic anime voice direction but you could tell the actors understood how to play within that limitation. The charm of og Zack was that at times you could tell the line delivery was extremely authentic, which I suspect he wasn't given good enough directions to do that, he's just a talented Character actor. New Zack plays too much into the characters archetype so he ends up sounding too big all the time. 1 good example is Angeal was early into the game. Most people feel, me included, this new one is doing an equal quality job. However when he tells the tale of dumbapples, og sounded nostalgic and when he corrected Zack that he was poor he said it in a "you can't be serious " tone. New angeal....well he sure did read those lines. I'm just gonna change my mantra, redubs with new actors several years later won't matter if they're "good", we literally have the original, the new stuff doesn't magically live in a vacuum. There's only 1 old ass game I'd want a redub of and even that I can't really say I'm entirely for because it would effect later games and anime, the games are .Hack vol. 1-4 Im concerned the only reason we don't have the 4k version of advent children is because someone really wants to redub it. This sucks because the gameplay is so amazing but the voices consistently worse. Maybe if I only played crisis core once, years ago, and never revisited a single visual I'd think nothing of the new voices. But that's just it, I have. So I'm not gonna be as nice as the people who clearly can't remember or can't exactly pinpoint what exactly is off. And again. The original was a hot mess. But grafting a new dub on top of old robotic line delivery is a recipe for distaster.
I agree, the crazy thing is that he sounds even worse than how he sounded in FFVII remake, same thing with Zack's VA. I can't really hear neither of them, it's like they're reading straight from the paper without feeling the character they're voicing at all. I'm probably going to play this in JP
Genesis feels like the friend that dragged his two besties along with whatever crazy adventure on his mind, Sephiroth the friend that tries to go easy on them in sparing keyword tries and Angeal the friend who had to make sure they don't do anything crazy
They definitely updated the visuals too since the buster sword design was changed from the Advent Children ver to the FF7R ver for this game. Its a detail I don't see many people pointing out
Don't get me wrong the new voices are fine but the old voices were top notch. The delivery and everything. I do hope modders would make a OG voice pack type thing for this game. It would have been perfect.
I love him as Superman and I'm glad he's career is expanding, but I don't know about him being Sephiroth. The other Superman actor, George Newbern, was really ominous, arrogant, yet divine at the same time.
1:42 Whats scary is he's side glancing before he acts, and whats terrifying is sometimes hes not even looking at them so he's got his eye on them no matter what they do.

Sephiroths short game in close combat with a Masamune is impressive. The devs did their homework on this fight scene. Love the part he blocks Genesis then uses his free hand to back hand his sword and the result is Genesis flying backwards from basically a 1 inch backhand of Sephiroths own sword
In all honesty, it sounded a little half-assed in the beginning part of the video. But, maybe that's because it has obviously different voice actors than the original
Still liked the old va of Genesis reading loveless and the part when he said “that’s no way to talk a hero”. While the old Sephiroth va intonation is much more cold imo. Very distinguishable but it is what it is.
Funny thing about Genesis having a Hero complex is that the Original colors of the Fighter Class for most main heroes was the colors Genesis wears looking like like original Fighter color, the main image of the hero sprite.
@@seprithlicastia463 Its ff7, they all got magic but yes he could be a red mage too with color but red mages back then didn't have red hair too like fighters which makes sense with the hero complex but I can roll with red mage lol. Its just more the color scheme and all.
Noticing the brand new sound effects for the fight to make it more consistent with the sound direction of modern FFVII At some point though, they're gonna need to explain the origin story for the Masamune because ever since Advent Children Complete, it's been given this distinctive howl any time Sephiroth prepares an attack
My favorite interpretation is that it's not the sword- it's the hand wielding it. Given that the Masamune in AC is just a construct, not the actual sword, it seems like Sephiroth COULD do the same kind of thing with basically any sword, but he's actually got the ridiculous strength needed to bypass physics and make an 8-foot katana practical in a duel, so he does. You know, for the aesthetic.

Sephiroth 5 seconds later: *destroys the place*
Ah, yes the true dynamics of a chaotic duo and their mom friend🤣🤣🤣
In the classic he says "you will destroy us all"
Don't know the one is correct match with Jap dub
@@sanadajehuty It was a line change from the original. He says that in the original too; so don't worry about the translation being wrong or anything, it was intentional.
That is an accurate description of their dynamic, Sephiroth and Genesis are the chaotic duo (with one of them being more chaotic than the other) and Angeal is the one who has to clean up their messes and stop them from causing more chaos.
@@sanadajehutyAngeal said in JP dub: "Stop that! You'll destroy the training room!"
Therefore, this version's English dub is more accurate to the original Japanese.
But they still retained some of the stuff from the old English dub like Genesis being cocky and displaying inferiority complex towards Sephiroth, and Sephiroth being silently smug and goading Genesis to fight him. In the Japanese version, Genesis just wanted to become a hero too alongside Sephiroth which Sephiroth replied with "fine with me", whereas in English Genesis wanted to replace Sephiroth and Sephiroth replied with "you sure? Come at me bro"
@@EirinYagokoro that's crazy how a unique word can change and created a lot of theory about the strength of first classes soldiers.
The way Sephiroth effortlessly slashes through the Mako Cannon never fails to give me goosebumps. Man is a true monster, lol!
Yet that isn't even a fraction of what he's truly capable of. THAT is the freaky part!
and he's so effortlessly dramatic the way he waited till Genesis can't see him and then slash and dash through a huge chunk of the cannon.
@@fm.burbank8461 Part of his awesome and unique fighting style. I love how they made it so right about him. Instead of just coming at an opponent he takes measures to intentionally make you doubt yourself, oppress and overwhelm you and fear every move he makes. I love how this game showed that sephiroth was just a regular guy who wanted to just spend time with his friends. People say it took away from cloud and sephiroth but it really shows how both of their origins made them who they became. Sephiroth was popular and bared the wait of the world on his shoulders, but his friends where his escape and way to have fun. Loosing them and finding out the truth broke him.

Well said!
he focuses on scaring the everloving shit out of his opponent rather than killing. its what makes sephiroth himself, and that detail is always overlooked

This scene was so well done that after years I forgot they were in a simulation because of how serious sephiroth is as a character

You know Angeal is serious when you see him use his buster sword. Even Sephiroth knows it.
This is still one the best fantasy fight in gaming industry. Music, voice actor and cinematic, its all are perfect.
How the fight really started...
Sephiroth: Your Jordan's are fake.
Genesis: Sephiroth you sob, I am tired of your ish 😡
Sephiroth: 😏
Angeal: Guys please don't😬
*Sephiroth vs Genesis*
He was probably also a little ashamed that him and Genesis were lost their cool.
one of the best rendition of One winged angel, who knew a triangle would make it sound so menacing
I also wish mabe in the future we get a game about these three an how they became First class soldiers. That would be a pretty sick game. Playing as a young Sephiroth an end of the game he is known as the worlds strongest An number one Hero.
There is that Sephiroth focused story in the forthcoming “Ever Crisis” that touches on his youth and early days as a SOLDIER, so hopefully that will also show how he met and befriended Angeal and Genesis.
Im concerned the only reason we don't have the 4k version of advent children is because someone really wants to redub it.
Totally agree.. the dubbing is poor. The psp version is much2 better.
I only played the original once when it came out and I prefer the original voices. I do watch this scene sometimes though.
I agree, the crazy thing is that he sounds even worse than how he sounded in FFVII remake, same thing with Zack's VA. I can't really hear neither of them, it's like they're reading straight from the paper without feeling the character they're voicing at all. I'm probably going to play this in JP
my thoughts exactly; they could've really tried with the dub this time.
Genesis feels like the friend that dragged his two besties along with whatever crazy adventure on his mind, Sephiroth the friend that tries to go easy on them in sparing keyword tries and Angeal the friend who had to make sure they don't do anything crazy
I like how they redid the sounds for the cinematic cutscenes but left them visually in tact. I'm so used to hearing the PSP cutscene sounds.
They definitely updated the visuals too since the buster sword design was changed from the Advent Children ver to the FF7R ver for this game. Its a detail I don't see many people pointing out

I always assumed he took it as a prize during the early years of the wutai war.
My favorite interpretation is that it's not the sword- it's the hand wielding it. Yeah Genesis sounds close but Angeal is the only character who sounds like a 1:1 match with the original
@@uNsT0p4b1e and then you have Sephiroth lol
I remember watching this on my PSP as a kid and thought it was like the most realistic looking anime fight I ever saw
I just love the fact that sephiroth cut that metal as if it was butter.
The moment One Wing Angel starts playing, you know Sephiroth stops holding back.
I remember when I first played this game it was surprising to know sephiroth actually had friends
Maybe if they stayed, they could’ve prevented his decent…
@@Nite-Rise honestly I don't think angeal and genesis could stopped his decent into madness growing up thinking your a normal human being but finding out u was created from the cells of a ancient being that once rule the very land u now stand on.

Cloud broke too after finding out his truth. Tifa put him back together.
Sephiroth had no one to help him. Idk, I feel like that could’ve made a difference.
@@Nite-Rise yeah that's true but looking at how angeal and genesis handled their problems I'm sure they would of liked what he did hell probably would of even joined him to fight side by side again as the strongest members of soldier
I'm sorry, but the OG cutscene was goated. Better voice acting, better sword sounds, just superior in every way.
@3:02
"Uh... I stopped dodging, are you even *trying* to hit me?"
"NO!!"
"The hell do mean 'no...' ooooh... Shit."
"Hellzone Grenade!"
Une des meilleurs cinématiques de FF7… ce jeu m’aura marqué et la mort d’Angeal et de Zack m’aura arraché le cœur 😢 💔
Old VA still 👌holds the Cake in this scene
The fact seph sends all these dudes flying with one arm is funny man 😂

So basically what you’re saying is Sephiroth……Got it memorized
I think the old Genesis voice actor was delivered way better than this current one. All of them seem... less emotional in this.
Sephiroth’s only friends
Wow... over ten years about this scene~ i love it!
*Cough* *Cough* Junon Cannon Engineer's ---- He did What? No your requesting a repair of a 100 ton cannon? How was it destroyed?? Sephiroth?? You mean one man? Is that coming out of his paycheck? You want it back up how quick? 5 years? We will get back to you.
So nostalgia "Even if the morrow is barren of promises nothing shall forestall my return"
Maybe it's just because they're using obviously different voice actors, but it kind of sounds like they're half-assing the lines. I only got to watch videos of the original, but they sounded like they had so much passion for the game itself then. I hope the entire remake isn't like this
To be fair to them, unlike Geroge Newbern and the others, this is the new VAs second time as these characters, some of them it's their first time and are relatively new to voice acting
@@iamalbertwesker2 also it seems like they're asked to do the same as the previous VA, that could explain why most of their lines don't feel natural
