    it is a shame that such a club as Ipswich is not in the top division of England. Fantastic club and what wonderful supporters. I would love to come to this club and watch them play, I don't care what class of England they play in. I have always been a fan of this club. Greetings from Holland.

      English league has more big clubs than Premier league spaces and ironically shit clubs like Bournemouth and Fulham still manage to end up there

    This is how I remember Euro football nights as a kid, bloke smoking a cigar on the bench,klaxons,commentary sounds like it’s through a drain pipe,fans aloud to bring their own flags into the stadium... fantastic times. Ipswich were going for 3 trophies this season; Fa cup,league title and the UEFA cup. It’s also funny how people referred to this tournament as the Yootha cup back then.

      Absolutely Zelda. 👏 More substance in football back then. Today it's all flash and no substance, that's the difference.
      More atmosphere.

    As an arsenal fan I loved this Ipswich team. Paul Cooper’s swinging arms when facing penalties was copied by kids in goal all over the uk. Great team.

    Ipswich under Robson that season were arguably the most talented side ever produced in English football and had it not been that the squad was only 14 players and had to play 65 matches in four competitions including replays they would have won everything that season. They came close to doing it but injuries took their toll. They were playing three games a week at one point in three competitions.

      I also blame UEFA for aggrandizing the Champions League at historic cups' expense, such as the Cup Winner's Cup and the UEFA Cup.

    The memories! As a Huddersfield fan I always had a soft spot for ITFC because of this team. To see another 'Town' lifting a European trophy gives us all hope

      @marksims3904 Год назад +1

      It does indeed! And you being a Huddersfield fan you are only one of three teams to win the top division three years in a row. Only Liverpool and Man U have done it since. 1924, 1925, 1926. Still counts for the Terriers!

      Maybe the hope is gone with the oil money from Middle East who can buy whatever player they want. My hope is that we one day will regulate the big money. Maybe all the clubs should be own by their fans union.

    Wonderful, WONDERFUL!! Ipswich Town champions of europe. Not bad for a small club from suffolk. We took on the best, we BEAT the best, and silverware is the reward. Three stars on our shirt. Pride of Anglia.

      @@MrRazorblade999 I know Liverpool won the European Cup in 1981 (even though they had a crap league season) and that makes them champions of europe and rightly so. What would you call a team winning a european trophy? Even if it was the UEFA Cup.

    Ipswich has competed in all three major European club competitions and has never lost at home in European competition, having defeated teams such as Real Madrid, A.C. Milan, Inter Milan, Lazio and Barcelona at home.

    AZ were different class here, Ipswich couldn't cope with Johnny Metgod's role as an attacking sweeper. Ipswich were very entertaining at this time but the two clodhoppers at the back Osman and Butcher let them down. If they'd had two better defenders they might have won the league that season instead of Liverpool.
