John motson talking through a phone in the second half, rix's missed penalty, Mario kempes hair, I remember watching this as if it was yesterday. 38 years ago.
Since then I support Arsenal. I was 13.
If talbot had scored in the semi at Hillsborough things might have been different, they just ran out of steam at the end.Too many games against Liverpool cost them.
I was out there for this game we should have beat them ! Lost 2 finals in a week ! PAINFUL
Looking back,I find it hard to believe that as a 5 year old I was allowed to stay up and watch this on a school night. And I wasn't even an Arsenal fan.One of my earliest football memories.
Even though I was 10 years old, this match was unforgettable to me because a team was on the field and it was a great injustice to lose this title and finally it was the reason that I have not digested the Valencia team since then.
How many gooners remember David O'Leary dribbling past Kempes and Bonhof in the second half of extra time? Doubt that clip's anywhere on YT but I remember being pretty impressed, that was class.
I remember Valencia CF at those times, they had some good players such as Kempes, Solsona, Castellanos etc, but I don´t remember the goalkeeper. Uff I was very a kid at that time, by the way, I believe Arsenal deserved to win that final. However, Valencia did a good job, they managed to beat Barcelona in semis.
Pereira the goalkeeper
Was Barca good in 1980? I know they had some moments in the mid 80s before Cruyff took over.
@@doncarloancelotti2256 yeah they had such a good squad, Danish forward Alain Simonssen, Austrian striker Krankle, the German midfielder Schuster, and other international Spanish players.
@@doncarloancelotti2256 Maradona played for Barça in the early 80s
Hello. Valencia beat Nantes in semifinals (aggregate 5-2). Regards.
This season was fucking depressing ! Lost the FA Cup to West Ham , Lost this on penalties and Brady pissed off .
Good day. Like and thanks from your subscriber. Baku city
I remember watching this as a 9 year old I was absolutely gutted. Lost two finals in a week and caved in against Boro 5-0 on the 70th game of the season the following week.
Bloody hell it's hard to pick which was the worst of the three there
Sorry my friend I also remember watching that final at home with my older brother and my dad. it was such an exciting match. On overall I think Arsenal played better than Valencia in that match, but Valencia managed to beat Barça in semis, it was a great achievement by Valencia.
Regards from Spain.
I belived at thectime and stiill do that Arsenal's long semi final against Liverpool really cost them especially in the Cup Final.
Never mind Graham Rix, you may have missed here but you had no problem scoring with a 15 year old! The Adam Johnson of the 1990's!
Kempas had just won the world cup with Argentina scoring twice in the final. Bonhoff was also a world cup winner with west germany. Valencia had a lot of quality but arsenal so nearly beat them
2 best classiest players Kempes then Brady missed unbelievable
Just five years before thirty nine people lost their lives at this joke of a stadium , the fans were literally separated by a flimsy chicken wire fence and i remember thinking it was an accident waiting to happen . How arsenal lost that match I'll never know and our support was incredible I've never seen so many gooners at an away match , yes that was a hard one to take , very very painful , coyg !
True classic final.
Goal keepers were up to the occasion with important saves. The best save for me was the one from Valencia keeper on 3:00 .. That was with fast reaction similar to Banks save from Pele's header in World Cup 1970.
Painful to watch this European Cup Winners Cup Final against Valencia, especially after losing to West Ham in the FA Cup final only four days earlier.
Apparently heysel was a crap stadium even then 5 years before the disaster
Oh yeah, Arsenal fans were scathing about the place blasting it a "right s*it hole". Surprising O'Leary didn't take a penalty considering his Italia 90 heroics
Wisty Boy I remember seeing on a documentary about the disaster that they put a load of plastic and metal poles under a hut at the back of the terraces. The poles were exactly the right size so they could be used as a weapon. Why they were left there I’ll never know.
UncleMikeNJ most definitely. Why UEFA used it as the venue for the 1985 final when it would have only deteriorated a lot more since 1980 is beyond me.
I was there in 1976 with West Ham. It was a crumbling dump.
a german football fan in his 80s told me on social media a few years ago, that he was at the euro 72 final between west germany and russia at the heysel stadium. and he told me that even back then it was shit-hole 13 years before the tragic events in 1985
How did Arsenal not win this game? Should of been 2 or 3 up
left footers usually kick across themselves when taking a penalty....nice one Donny!
Rix gave it away with his shimmy before he took the kick what was that about??
Did that man have a coffee pot before extra time??!!
Haha, saw that as well.
Still don't know how we lost even though I had to sit down asleep for the first half as so drunk 🙃
The Officials were very poor towards Arsenal in the shootout because Valencia's Goalkeeper on every Arsenal kick kept on moving 2-3 yards off his line before each kick was taken, that is cheating in my book and the officials let him get away with it!
Your worse than Barry Davies, all goalkeepers move, have you forgotten Grobbelar, or best of all Jerry Dudek, both of Liverpool.
Old, good Heysel Stadium :-)
I was there in 1976 with West Ham. It was a crumbling dump and the terraces were strewn with masonry, even in those days. It was always a disaster waiting to happen.
Nick Hornby wrote in "Fever Pitch" about attending this game "The stadium was in a disgusting state of repair"@@chairmanalf7856
The tea pot at 3:33 is hilarious.
Damn fucking hurts losing back to back finals but shit well done to Valencia though tough cookies, tbh its the west ham final that i fucking hated the were second division and we lost to them smfh lol
Serving tea at 3.40. Football used to be great.
The camera angle for these penalties is appalling
Interesting penalty shootout - players just took them, no farting about like they do nowadays
Valencia goalkeeper encroachment on the penalties.
They have to retake it now. Sevilla v Roma 2023.
Grande Valencia....Copenhague, Rangers, Bar¢a, Nantes y Arsenal...CAMPEONES....
A pot of tea for refueling... amazing.
Que gran el meu Valéncia
0:41 penalti claro al Arsenal
Valencia sure has room for Argentinians!
Falla kempes!!
Still painful to watch..
Campeones!!!! Amunt!!!
Still laughing 😀
Valencia always do Arsenal in Europe. Pretty funny.
Maxi Hadda you might want to retract that statement now
Europa League 2019 ???🤔🤫
@@zansportsnewstv473 OK, so that makes it Valencia 3-1 Arsenal in European ties.
Well done Gunners.
@@Scallion_D big deal, they were just one of our European bogey team's, our Invincible's would've slaughtered them.
@@zansportsnewstv473 Well no, as Valencia and Arsenal met in the 02/03 2nd group stage and Valencia eliminated Arsenal.

Classifica squadre più sfortunate ..ho più sfigate
In proporzione fra trofei vinti e finali perse
1/ AMERICA DI CALI
4 finali perse in Coppa Libertadores 1 coppetta vinta
2/BENFICA
2 finali perse contro penarol e Santos di Intercontinentale
5 finali perse in Coppa Campioni
3 perse in Coppa UEFA Europa League
2 titoli, 10 finali perse
3/ ATLETICO MADRID
Vittorie
Coppa Intercontinentale per rinuncia del Bayern Munich
A. Madrid Independente 1974
1 Coppa delle Coppe 1962
3 Europa League
3 Supercoppe europee
8 titoli, e 4 finali perse
4/ ARSENAL
2-2 a Torino e 0-0 in Inghilterra..
2005 col San Paolo Brasile
2 volte ha rinunci
4 finali perse in Champions League
4 Finali perse dai militari
1963 Santos
1993 Sanpaolo
1994 Velez
2003 Boca Juniors
4 finali di Coppa campioni perse dal Milan
Real Madrid, Marsiglia, Ajax e Liverpool
1993 finale persa col Parma
1 finale persa in Champions League
10/ Manchester city
Valencia
Dinamo Kiev
Stade Reims
Il Saint Etienne
Anderlecht
Tottenham Hotspurs
E citiamo anche il Panatinaikos
Interesting. No black players, then. I cant believe it
Amunt Valencia

Boring Arsenal got what they deserved, absolutely nothing. They lost two cup finals because they couldn't score a goal and then swapped a striker (Allen) for a defender (Sansom). Just about sums them up at that time.
Shut your noise you stupid yid
Hahahahaha remember it well so glad that horrible team lost hahahahaha
Spurs fan I guess ???
Yes Catholic Spain won 😂
Kempes ha ha what a scary man
