That third Ipswich goal, only saw it once at the time but I can remember it clearly 35 years later, explains why those two Dutchmen are legends in that part of the world.
Only bettered by Ipswich's third goal in a League Cup replay at Norwich in Oct 1980. Used to have a video of it, but lost it. Hopefully one day it will emerge on here!
Fuck me that ipswich side was good. Robson should have won the treble in 81. And to think they had Alf Ramsey before who won the championship. Iconic club
I was behind the goal with the other Ipswich fans. It was a wonderful time to be a supporter as we had so much confidence in the ability to score. As l remember things we often had less possession than opposing teams but did a lot more with it so that highlights give a false impression. I loved Stumpy Eric. Never seen another player like him
Still lost to Aberdeen 10 days later the UEFA Cup. Seriously tough they should have won a championship. They were a great team. Mariner never gets the credit he deserves
That free kick for time wasting!!! Cooper had the ball from the initial challenge, released it onto the ground and then picked it up for 5 seconds! In the first half!!! Not a murmur of complaint by the Town players. How times have changed 😂
would have thought Hugh Johns would have realised Eric Gates shot hit the inside of the post and not the crossbar that's why the ball bounced away to the right and not straight back out.
from notts county 1-4 Ipswich to Ipswich 1-3 notts county.i don't know whether I am coming or going.didn't they do the same thing against Cardiff city?

Yes! I remember that too, thanks for the link.
And of course Arnold Muhren continued to it for Manchester United.

What a great team Ipswich were at the time. Loads of skill and invention throughout most of the team.

Impossible to imagine Notts County in the Top Division today...
Not really ten years from now

Two very good passing sides. Best Notts County kit ever ?
It is a quality.piece of 80s adidas design
nowadays, they would be whingeing on Twitter if the commentator had a joke at the expense of the own goal
What a brilliant player Eric Gates was for Ipswich 💙🤍❤
