All this began when the government began mandating things. Around 2009, with new efficiency mandates is when we really began seeing "the crap" put on vehicles, and that stuff is expensive and has been breaking! The question is posed, "Why don't they make a cheap truck?", well, CAN they make one? It's got to meet all the new standards now, the manufacturers have all taken billions and billions in losses due to inflation, and the EV mandates! The UAW keeps demanding, in spite of all this. Can't get blood out of a turnip! I also seriously doubt we would be here right now if the auto industry (and our economies) had just been left alone.
