This video has possibly illuminated so much. For years i took things like apple cider vinegar, cranberry extract and vitamin c, thinking i was improving my health… i will avoid these things now unless i come down with a specific infection that requires these supplements to be treated. Thank you! I will be only incorporating supplements known to reduce this inflammation. I already had quercetin as well, but the benefits were likely canceled out by the large amounts of the other supplements i was taking, this has possibly solved a mystery for me!
Urologist prescribed Tamsulosin has helped me and PCP prescribed Hyoscyamine to relieve severe bladder discomfort, which has got me through this! Again, thank you for all your insight💁♀️
Both are great medication that I have treated patients many times with. They help but certainly don’t solve the symptoms. It’s just trying to make you be able to tolerate your bladder.
Anyone who suffers from this please consider St. John's Wort in conjunction with L-Arginine and/or L-Citrulline. L-Arginine can cause stomach upset for some, so L-Citrulline, which is converted to L-Arginine can be used instead, or each can be used in conjunction with one another.
Hello all, I was diagnosed with interstitial cystitis for many years. Nothing helped, not the traditional treatment, not the antibiotics. I´ve been on vaginal HRT (hormone replacement therapy, estrogen) for 6 months now and the pain stopped within the first few days. Please note that postmenopause can be the reason for those symptoms.
@@tanisgentle3576 I understand that any type of HRT-prescription (orally or vaginal) has to be provided by an experienced gynecologist who is experienced in this field. I just had my tests done after 9 months of HRT a few days ago. It was ultrasound checking of organs. Everything is fine and I continue with HRT happily. Even my slight but annoying backpain which I had for years, is now gone with HRT. Dr. Mary Claire Haver has tons of info online. Wishing you the best!
@@tanisgentle3576 You need an experienced HRT-gynaecologist with all the checkups being done properly before an type of HRT is prescribed. Once that´s established it should be a smooth run. As it is with me 😉
Thank you for all you do for me! You’re an amazing doctor and I appreciate your support, understanding, and continual medical care that you provide to me! I couldn’t do this without you!
Hello all. I have suffered very debilitating pain with interstitial cystitis since 2001. I'm so frustrated that they don't have more options for people suffering to where it's hard to walk some days. I don't have much option here as far as pain control. There are no doctors in my area
Great video after all these months and the Urologist didn’t do any test and wanted to insert an implant an Axonics device! No testing and guessing! Wasn’t comfortable with this. Didn’t really explain anything and then I receive a call from the company that wanted to set up a surgery! I didn’t have all the symptoms for this surgery, from what I could understand. So, I felt the Doctor was just pushing this surgery like many Doctors push Pharmaceutical. So it was a trial! I just have issues with urgency and NOT BEING ABLE TO URINATE. (Female 66 @ the time) $30-40K. Anyway, I have been researching and researching for months and with all I have read, IC is what it sounds like it is. Reddit is where I read a lot from others….male and female and thought, I have IC!!! Then, I see your video and have a new Urologist appointment end of January.
You certainly should be worked up for interstitial cystitis, which could be your issue. Now Axonics can be used in those situations, but mostly for urinary urgency and retention issues.
Thank you, Dr. McQueary! As one of your patients, I appreciate so much having this video as a follow up to my last appointment with you. Regarding some OTC meds I already take for reflux and allergies, will the famotidine and Xyzal I take help like the ones you mention here as anti acidic and antihistamine properties? What about aloe vera juice, that helps soothe gastric issues? Could it also help soothe bladder lining? Just thinking outside the box as we go down the relief road. Thanks so much!❤
Dr McQueary, I can say YES to all the symptoms, but what baffles me is that, my Urine Culture showed E-coli twice...and I am NOT responding to antibiotics, including Fosfomycin. Also my urine routine report shows "PUS CELLS OVER 200". For past 10 months, burning at the end of flow of urine, waking up every half hour at night to pass urine, sore & raw discomfort in urethra/vaginal area. What should I do ? Pl help !
It sounds like to me that you have urinary retention. You are not emptying your bladder all the way and that can be due to prolapse. You can get bacteria that are not easily treated by any antibiotics at this point. You definitely need to see a Urology or Urogynecology expert to evaluate your problems.
I think it's used mostly for cramping. St. John's Wort can be used and is helpful for some people. Sometimes medication treatment of stress is an important factor in helping Interstitial Cystitis. Good luck!!!
@@DrJeffreyMcQueary what are nerve treatments? I already had fulguration of the lesions twice. First time worked great. Second time not so much. I just came across your channel today. Great information.
I note that this “gynaecologist”, a physician of female physiology, has mentioned possibly every treatment possible and that are mostly invasive, except HRT. Wow. This is 2024!

Follow the instructions in this video but see a urogynecologist or urologist who can continue to treat these issues. Ask about bladder instillations with heparin.
I had the tests cystoscopy and urodynamics but nothing comes up in that. I was not able to pass the urine in urodynamics with that tube in and i was awake during cystoscopy. The doctor told me its all in my head, i need to control my urgency but what about the pain. The pain becomes worse if i dont drink for 1-2 hour. I again have to drink a lot and pee then the pain reduces a bit.
