    You can remove the alternator from the top side. Just remove the coolant overflow reservoir and that's as easy as it gets! Love your channel bro.

      @@VibeASMR I think removing the axle method I saw in another video would be okay if your handy with working on cars. However my niece sold the car for parts It was old and a beater I wasn't going do all that work just to try get alternator in there. I'd find the video on here where they pull the axle off and do it if you want fix it yourself else I'd pay the $800 or whatever the shop wants to have them do it because if you fix it and the alternator goes bad you'll have to fix it again yourself. I had an alternator in my caravan go bad 2 months after I put it in and had to return it and get another and put it in...putting two in these PT cruiser would be a nightmare...unless you really like working on cars...Truth is if I owned a pt cruiser I'd pay the shop to do it...I wouldn't ever buy a pt cruiser though. PT cruiser is to small for my liking and poorly designed IMO.

    Jimmy, you must have the patience of a saint. I think I would have had a melt down when the noise returned and was such a easy fix. Nonetheless, on the bright side of things, you have a brand new alternator and should never have to worry about that again!

    • @JimmyCruiser_CGE
      @JimmyCruiser_CGE  6 лет назад

      😂 Thank you sir! The whole ordeal was just a little bit frustrating, but yknow what they say, "it is what it is"! Yeah, I'm glad it's replaced either way, I can't imagine that old one was going to last much longer anyways!

  • @EricErnst
    @EricErnst 6 лет назад +5

    Nice work. That looks like a real pain in the butt! The hardest alternator I've ever changed was an 08 f350 with the 6.4L twin turbo powerstroke. It has to come out of the passenger's side wheelwell. I did that on the side of the freeway one day. The twin turbo makes for a very tight engine bay. Nothing like my old Silverado. Lol
    Glad you got her changed so it's off your mind. I was thinking in the last video that it sounded like power steering pump whine but you definitely found the problem. If you left it alone, it would probably have self clearanced and stopped making noise. Lol
    Have a great week, Jimmy.

    • @JimmyCruiser_CGE
      @JimmyCruiser_CGE  6 лет назад +1

      It was a real pain, but it went a lot easier then last time! I can only imagine what it must be like to work around a huge twin turbo V8 diesel like that, even though the truck is big that's gotta take up some space lol! You're doing it right with the Silverado, working on this PTs makes my S10 seem like a piece of cake!
      I'm glad it's changed too, I can't imagine the old one was going to last much longer. Probably that pulley would have eventually rubbed itself away some clearance anyways haha! I remember thinking it sounded just like a PS pump too, but I checked the fluid and looked it all over, everything was okay, and it seemed like the sound was coming from further back... safe to say an alternator right? NOT 😂 I ended up unbolting the cover, super-glueing a washer on the hole, and putting it back on... no more noise! Now time to give the S10 some time 😁😁

    While replacing the return power steering hose I found that it had a restrictor placed in the hose right after coming out of the cooler. It is a round piece of metal 1 inch long with a 1/16 inch hole down the center. I only discovered it because a hose clamp wad places down stream of the clamp for the cooler so I cut the hose there after removing the clamp. You might want to tell your viewers about that so they don't just throw it away and then discover a steering problem.

    To take out CV axle buy a pickle fork with 1 1/8 throat put it between transmission and female CV joint and tap gently with hammer ,CV axle will pop right out. Tried the pry bar method fu-- that. There are three different pickle forks, buy one you need or buy all three. Just sayin

    Took the plunge and replaced the alternator on my wife's 07 PT Cruiser (non-turbo). I removed the mounting bracket but still couldn't get it out. Then I saw that the oil filter adapter was in the way and held in by 3 8mm bolts. Removed it and had lots of room to get it out. It still was a pain having to remove the caliper and CV axle.

    After realizing how cheap they are, I've about decided I want a manual PTGT for a daily driver. No way I'll be able to justify dailying my 00z28 to college, and they seem like kinda fun cars.

      Awesome dude! It is a hella fun daily driver, if you can find one that's been taken good care of and has lowish miles, it would be perfect. My GT saw quite a bit of neglect in it's day, but she's coming together! I had an Instagram friend that had a 00z28 and a PT GT as well, he eventually sold the z28 because he couldn't keep both and it wasn't as daily-able as the GT 😂 welcome to the PT GT family soon hopefully!! Keep me posted ✌️

    • @JimmyCruiser_CGE
      @JimmyCruiser_CGE  6 лет назад

      My battery light never came on, I probably should have used that as a clue to keep investigating. I had a Taurus blow an alternator once and never had a bat light come on. But if your BL is on and it’s making a noise, that’s pretty much guaranteed to be your alternator!

    My 2002 pt cruiser over heats when running the a/c. I've checked for electrical problems. Run it with only coolant. Any other suggestions as to why it is running so hot when the a/c is on in 106° Arizona whether?

    • @JimmyCruiser_CGE
      @JimmyCruiser_CGE  6 лет назад

      The first thing that comes to my mind is the fan possibly not running and turning on like it should, but you said you checked for electrical problems so you might have already checked that? It could be as simple as the thermostat being stuck from opening all the way sometimes, causing it to warm up a little in the heat with the extra A/C strain. If you haven't already I'd just do a coolant flush, throw a new thermostat in it and see if that helps. Other than that I'm honestly not sure! 106 degree heat with the compressor on is a lot for the cooling system on any car haha. Good luck!!

      @CryptoSToN3R1 6 лет назад

    I would say no one sane would do this method to get the alternator out, if your going do all that work you might as well pay someone to do it. I have to find one of the other methods, I tried the jam it up past the heat shield in back method would not fit even with the heat shield bent out of the way.

The wire is by the exaust so it was overheating the wire. I put a cooling gel on it and it's been fine for 2 years now.
