I'm 68 and have been hunting for 58 years now. Does NOT matter how you walk...what path you choose to use...how scent-free you think you are....the deer will know that you are in the woods, that are in the area or bedded down. It's your scent and how aggressive and quick and noisy you are that seems to always determine if they flee or not. Simple as that.

100% correct, I had a deer bedded down about 20 yards today while I was walking to my stand. Something told me to check the creek bed for deer sign when the deer jumped up and ran when I was about 5 yards away. Today was antlered deer only and I couldn't see it's head so I didn't take a shot. Deer will stay where they feel safe until the threat passes or it gets too close.

If you know how to mask yourself energetically ... you can come behind them.
Smell: go plant based only. If you want to stalk the hard wild animals, like wolves .. eat few days only wild edibles.
Sense: learn how not to project your energetic fields outside your physical body. Takes practice... a lot. But it's worth it.
Sound: stay stationary as much as possible. Let animals come to you. Or observe their pathing, that dug in at the gathering locations (feeding, watering)

@@blackravensolutions I've done a lot of "Masking my Aura" while being in the woods, or generally projecting friendly energy, so I don't come across as threatening. It's kind of weird, but it works extremely well.

Great basics.. I spend 6 months outdoors (sleeping and all, no cabin) and this is how it's done. Mimic, slow movements, look around a lot. Move laterally instead of vertically.

Hey, let me explain something. The deer KNOW you are there. I have experimented coming in to my stand in full dark to hunt hog. Now I had scentlok clothing which is very quiet. My path happened to be an old dirt road with NO LEAVES or NUTS, so there was absolutely no twig snaps and no leaves crunching. i walked smoothly and silently, the grass was green so it was as noisy as walking a golf course fairway. Now guys always talk about how they "SLIP" into the woods like they are so ninja stealthy. Well...I used a Pulsar Helion thermal monocular on the way in. Man, those deer where totally onto me. Many just stayed bedded down and let me walk by. So just be aware, the deer that can see you will see you even when you can't see them. Of course, still be as quiet as you can so you can put an arrow in the one that is out of sight.

Oh I agree... I'm like you I like to take Old logging roads things like that. So they will bed so that they can see the road you're talking about. That's why I don't park in parking lots and I make my access difficult to be seen. Like down in a creek. Not that it never happens but I have less likely chance of being spotted if I don't do what everyone else does.

Yes I have better luck sitting against a tree.If the deer had rifles I would never go up against them.!!!

ridiculous.. just get to where you’re going trying to make the least amount of noise as possible. The woods will settle back down once you reach your destination and settle in
