Someone give this man a medal. My type cover stopped working back in February and I had to go to the Microsoft store for a replacement. They gave it to me for free but it was still a hassle. Today, after about 8 months with the new type cover, this one stopped working as well. I was so stressed about getting a replacement because with covid I am sure that would be even more of a hassle. But I found this video and the first step worked perfectly. Thank you so much for saving me all the effort and time I already had to spend once on this issue. Microsoft should really do something about this though.
Totally agree
Best video. Sang really professionally presented.
Also I didn't have alcohol. I used vinegar. Did the same job.
And it works!
did you need a warranty
@@bigtshotmusic I didn't, but also I live in nyc and went to the 5th ave location in Manhattan and they were so swamped, I think they just wanted to get me appeased and out of the store as quick as possible. So I can't say for sure if they'd give it for free in a more relaxed/suburban environment
Is that keyboard vomes with warranty or they gave you because it just got damage.

Thank you so much! I was freaking out because it wasn't working during my online class, but the first method worked perfectly for me. I cannot thank you enough!
same lol
Does it work on any surface pro?
Bro, I've been Involved with I.T. since the early 90s. Getting into the bios of your own machine used to be so much easier. As u might imagine I've looked this kind of shit up a trillion times. This tip fixed my keyboard and problem faster than I have ever experience before, faster than any help video that ever was. Homie, thanks for putting out a succinct, accurate answer. You have no idea how much frustration you helped curtail with this fast and easy trip. Keep doing it. Sure, theres are a million of these things up. But so few do it right. When i find a tip that works, I save it and the dude who posted it's name. Then when I have another problem I look back on who has done things right in the past. Oh yeah this guy dont bullshit, he'll give you a good answer. Stick with him for future issues.
Loucipher u shoulda went into writing not IT my man
Incredible! I'd watched many videos in vain until I bumped into yours which solved my problem in a matter of seconds(option 1). Thank you SOOOOO much!
thank you so much for your simple productive solution! super cool! please keep them coming!! :) 5 stars for you! My keyboard was unresponsive and I got it up and running in a minute
with your super instructions! you do deserve a medal!
A medal is definitely in order. Option 1 worked, but Option 2 forced me to look at my dirty connections that I have neglected cleaning over the years. I have the first generation Surface and still love it, so I was frustrated when this happened. Thanks WorldofTech!
Solved perfectly (only did 1st method). You saved me.
Thank you so much.
You are a life saver!! The cotton bud with hand sanitizer clean worked a treat....you have saved my working week! Thank you
Thanks man! I had tried everything but didn't know about the boot to Bios screen...I usually let go of the two buttons to just do a hard reboot. That first tip was the trick to get mine back!
I was freaking out when I couldn’t type anything. The deadline of assignment was approaching. I tried your two tips and it worked for option 2. Thank you.
Thank you - I had tried everything - re-setting computer and re-loading windows 10.. but this is the first time I've been able to use the keyboard for a while!
It’s such a relief you popped right up when searching google. The first option worked! My tablet or key board wasn’t working and now it does! Thank you!😊
Thanks so much! The BIOS thing worked for me (option 1), didn't have any faith in it, BUT IT WORKED!!
My man! First method worked like a charm! Thank you so much for taking the time to help us all. You’re the man. Subscribing now!
Hero, my keyboard hasnt been working and uni is starting in 2 days, this dude is a literal lifesaver, thanks for your help!!
Omg THANK YOU I WAS ABOUT TO CRYYYY
So a couple of days ago there was a coffee spill which I immediately cleaned up, but I guess not what I couldn't see. The Bios thing didn't work but cleaning the contacts worked like a charm! Thank you thank you!
Thank you so much, mine began to be unresponsive and as I gave up, I decided to look for reviews on other options and thankfully this video popped up first and saved me from buying another one 🙏🏼
update: I thought I was done with just doing the first method (and it worked initially) but when I detached and reattached the keyboard it became unresponsive again, went ahead and did the second method and now its completely fixed!
Bringing up the BIOS did the trick for me. I had gone through the the whole Microsoft troubleshooting process (except for the last recommendation, which was to reset the unit). THANKS!
Thanks so much for the information. I didn't want to buy a new one. I followed the first method and now it works! So thankful!
OMG!! My keyboard has been down for a while now and I purchased a new one today for more $$ than I wanted to. I tried the new keyboard in the store, and it did not work, so I immediately returned it. Saddened without a functional keyboard, I tried YT and there you are with two fixes. Tried option one, it did not work. Almost losing hope, but alas, the simplicity of option two worked like a charm. The time spent traveling, purchasing, worrying, and searching, all vanquished in seconds, with an alcohol-soaked, cotton swab. You've done a service today. Thank you!!
Omg thank you! I spent like 30 minutes stressing out over it and it worked straight away after watching this video!
Omg, you are a life saver, I have a deadline and my keyboard stopped working. I was about to cry because I know I would have taken a few days to get support from IT. 🤩
YOU ARE A GOD. I spent a few hours on the internet and on official Microsoft forums with no solution. This was an instant fix. Thank you so much!
I have not been able to use my Surface for almost one year. Your bios solution fixed it in SECONDS. Thank you sir! Awesome video.
Option 1 worked the first time, and it would reignite my password, but option one fixed the entire issue. Thank you very much!! 😃
Thank you! I was worried I might have to buy a new keyboard but the first method worked amazingly!
Thank you so much! I just tried the first solution with my surface go and so far it's been working, thank you!
i didn't have alcohol laying around but used a dry swab instead and still worked, Thanks
First method worked for me! As opposed to what you said, the cursor didnt show so I just touched "Exit", but when my lock screen popped up, the cursor was back!! Thank you so much!
TYSM! I was freaking out, but I did only have to do the first half of the BIOS part. Holding down the power button is much different than just restarting or smth.
I'm so glad people like you exist..... I was freaking out but the first method worked for me
After having tried various methods, your second proposal finally worked (I used ethyl alcohol). Your video is really helpful. Thanks a lot, thumbs up!
Finally a solution that works. I started with the rubbing alcohol method and it worked instantly. I've been searching for ways to fix this and nothing ever worked. So glad I found this video!
Using rubbing alcohol would have been my 3rd step.
This helped so much! I had no idea what was going on and was freaking out, thanks!
This has worked for me before, but nothing is working this time. Next step??
Worked for my 10 yr old surface pro 3 thank you surface pro expensive but still going strong. I'm gonna try and make it to 20 yrs. Still looks new
Thanks a million. A straight to the point, easy to follow solution. Option 1, worked for me.
Absolute life saver! Your first trick (boot to BIOS) worked first time. Thanks so much.
It took me two times of cleaning and restarting, but that did the trick. Thank you so much for posting this video. :)
I was skeptical about cleaning the ports with alcohol rub, but it actually worked
Thank you
Thanks heaps - it worked, but now the problem is happening with frightening regularity. It happened yesterday in a Zoom lesson and I couldn't type in the Chat box so I had to abandon the class. I'm so over Surface Pro, and it looks as though many other people have had the same problem as you've garnered 100,000+ views!
This video may be 4 years old but it saved me today! Solution 2 was the trick. So crazy because I haven't even disconnected the keyboard in months so I never thought it would be dirty. Thank you for saving the day.
Glad it helped!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I can’t thank you enough!! I spent over an hour with a microsoft IT support tech who accessed my laptop remotely and ended up resetting my PC & making me loose all my installed software and nothing they did worked so they told me to buy a new keyboard which they said would hopefully fix my problem. The 1st option you showed fixed my keyboard problem, thank you again you’re a lifesaver!!!! 🙏
Step one works perfectly, thank you! it was driving me crazy
Hello from Spain,
My father was about to give up trying to fix the external keyboard... I tried to help him but couldn't find a solution , and then I found your video.. the alcohol solution :)
Thank you soooo much!
Muchas gracias!!!
Thank you for these tips! How about if the touchpad/mouse is unresponsive, too? Unfortunately, I couldn't follow through with all the suggestions because the touchpad is unresponsive as well. I can't even work around this issue by tapping on the touch screen, because that's disabled. Any thoughts?
Dude I was so confused. The first
Troubleshooting method worked for my surface laptop 3! Thank you!
Option #1 worked. Saved my day. Was getting ready for a customer presentation. Thanks!!
this worked perfectly,. thanks so much I actually called a tech company that did not know how to fix the issue. sometimes the solutions are simple. thanks again.
thank yo so much this worked perfectly with no issues and now my keyboard is working
This was sooo helpful. I'm in the middle of doctoral work and I don't have time for the shenanigans and typing disruptions. Thank you.
Thank you that was fast and simple didn't need the 2nd step.
Thank you, this is the only video that helped me get my keyboard and mouse pad working again. Easy fix!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO !!!! I was desperate ! But the first trick resolved everything !! Thank you so much !
I would just like to add that if when you're in the bios, you still can't do anything, go to Devices and check if the "Surface type cover port" is activated! Mine was off !!
I had the second issue, and it worked perfectly! Thank you! 🙏🏽
Do you know how to fix the screen flickering defect (which MS pretty much divested responsibility), common to Surface Pro 4?
Thanks very much. I’m not sure whether it was a coincidence or not, but when I tried the first method, my keyboard still wasn’t responsive, but after I restarted from that screen, it worked. I had restarted a couple times before to no avail.
Thank you!! Booting into the BIOS config revived my keyboard! Actually it wasn’t my keyboard, because I tested anothe me one - clearly it was my SP7 not recognizing the keyboard. Super easy fix I haven’t seen elsewhere! Thank you!
Someone who showed me something that actually worked. You’re amazing
Thank you so much for this video 🙏🙏. I thought my keyboard broke but after watching this video it fixed it 👍😀
You just made my day 🙂, I thought this was it for my old loved surface pro 4. But your super cool and easy fix (version 1) saved my old comupter from being replaced "already". Now give it a 2nd life. Thank you so much.
Cheers Daniel from Switzerland
Going to bio's and restarting always works for me. I have had to do it more than once on occasion. This video has been a lifesaver for me, bc I always forget what buttons to push 😂
Do you like cigars! This man needs a big fat one. Did the "hold power button for 1 minute" followed with "volume and power button for 15 seconds. It booted up normally and we are off and running. Many thanks!
Please help.
I am experiencing an issue on my Surface Pro 9. It's suppose to change to tablet interface when you detach the surface keyboard on landscape position. But it's not doing that. (Tablet interface is when taskbar is bigger and touchkeyboard appears whenever you need to type).
There are workarounds but I am annoyed: (1) After detaching surface keeybard, I press the power button to sleep mode then boot again and it will only then be in tablet mode. (2) When I turn my tablet sideward, the screen will rotate then I detach the keayboard only then it works conveniently like a tablet.
What is more annoying, when you detach the surface keyboard on a landscape position, it does not seem to detect that and worse now it won't rotate screen stays on landscape and no touch keyboard popping up. So, I need to do the workaround (1).
I already contacted Microsoft, tried reinstalling Win11, reset settings and check updates. But to no avail.
This is frustrating. Just bought this for weeks and it's having this issue. Hope you could help.
Nico
Omg yess, the first solution worked! Thank you so much!
THANK YOU!!! the bios worked! After trying everything, I thought the keyboard just died. I bought a new keyboard and to my surprise, it didn't work either!! I found this video and after doing the BIOS reset, both the new and old keyboard started working!
Had to use lens cleaner instead of rubbing alcohol, and it worked! Thank you
Q-Tip worked for me. Thanks I was about to buy a new keyboard
Hi I have a Surface Pro 7. I’ve completed both steps a few times but still cannot get the tablet to recognize the keyboard or tracking pad. I tried to connect my keyboard to a friends tablet and the keyboard works perfectly fine on their tablet. Any ideas what else it could be?
Thanks!
Thanks! Second solution worked- I was out and didn’t have alcohol so I blew on the connectors and wiped off with my shirt- still worked and mouse and keypad working now:)
You had me at first , then had me through it all, amazing 👏 thank you
Thankyou so much, I had an online lesson and was freaking out so much, thankyouuu
Thank you very much ! I tried everything until your instruction fixed the keyboard problems.
THANK YOU!! This was super helpful....the first solution worked. Really appreciate you putting this video together.
option 2 worked really did not think it would but I was desperate so tried, used white vinegar instead of alcohol as didnt have any and it worked! Thanks
done what you have explain several times but still nothing with 2 keyboards. Something I'm doing wrong or something wrong with software. Under Bluetooth devices connections, something appears as unknown device. Updated drivers , rebooted , nothing !
Quite surprised cleaning the connectors was the problem... Thought it wasn't going to do anything but it fixed it even after multiple restarts and updates!
Sir, thank you so much for the help. My keyboard on Surface 6 stopped working months ago. The rubbing alcohol method worked and its all good again. Thank you again. You are a hero. :)
actually he deserves two medals. One medal for each solution!!! Solution 2 worked for me!!!!
But how do you activate keyboard cuz mine isn't working. I have the K10 tablet by vastking
Also on zoom I'm able to hear the other person but they can't hear me even with my headphones in. Even when I turn volume and microphone on. All the permissions are enabled for the app so I'm not sure why that's happening. It's really annoying. I don't know if it's a zoom issue or my tablet but it's a new tablet
Wow, I cannot believe the alcohol method actually worked. Thank you so much for your help.
Thank you!!! School is back online and I my keyboard would not respond, I was freaking out! It's working perfectly now
Thank you, that was helpful with second option!
I have the surface pro 4 and the I guess it was dirty because the second method worked for me, I had to do it twice, first time gently (didn’t work) second time I rubbed a lot and it started working thank you
This isn't working for my surface pro , i did thise two ideas in your video and still no change. The back side of the keyboard connecting area os a bit swollen look i don't know does that any water contents? Cause the leather behind the keyboard is so loose and smooth
Thank you so much! I was researching why it suddenly stopped working, and all I kept reading was that the ports or keyboard were broken and it would need to fixed or replaced.
Cleaning it worked. Thank you so very much! I was so frustrated with this thing!
2nd solution worked like a charm, thank you
Thank you, a already panicked a little bit! I was able to fix the problem with the help of your video!
Thanks so much! I was really worried
Thank you so much for your tutorial since last night I wouldn’t figure out and frustrated and now I watched your video and I followed your instruction and finally its worked 👏👏👏👏thumbs up for this
1st method worked like a charm! Thank you for the solution.
What kind of keyboard are you using? I have the keyboard for the surface pro 3 and am looking for the keyboard that will be able to actually cover my screen. Thank you for the video!
The first option worked for me on my surface laptop! Thank you a million!
Thank you! 99.99999% of the time these videos don’t work, but today yours did!
My goodnessss. I have tried all the solutions I found on Microsoft support page but those did not work. And your second method which is to rub the connecting place with alcohol worked!!! Although I am only able to use the type cover extended, I do not have to buy a new one! Thank you so much sir!
Omg thank you so much. I was freaking out. This really saved me from going to the local shop possibly losing money.
Subscribed :)
The Q-Tip worked!!!! I was losing my mind!!!
Tried everything you said and others and still no joy..... Any other suggestions ?
