With the laptop on, hold the Power button and the F6 key down together for 15 seconds. Note, after 10 secs the screen will go black, but don’t release the buttons, keep them held. After a few more seconds a firmware version screen will briefly appear for a second or two then disappear, before going blank again. At this point, you can release the buttons. Then press the power button once to start normally, and they keyboard and trackpad will be working.

DUDE!!! I've been dealing with this issue every so often for a couple of years. Most of the time, a reboot helps. But, lately, it has taken up to a few hours to get my keyboard back. Your advice led me straight to the problem. I deleted the driver, updated the driver, and BAM, got my keyboard back!

Thank you SO MUCH!!!! I couldn't type at all & had to use the On Screen Keyboard. The HID Mini Driver was my problem The yellow triangle was visible in the Device Manager just like you suggested. With your video it was so easy to find & fixed. Saved me LOTS of $$ and time not having to take it in for repair.

I wasn't really getting my hopes up until I saw the part where the touchpad began suddenly and inexplicably working again, but the keyboard was still dead. Same issue I was having. I tried your fix and it worked like a charm. Now the only issue remaining is the right click on the touchpad. Everything else about the touchpad works fine - just the right click doesn't. Easily fixed by just using a mouse, but I'm going to keep trying to figure out what (as long as it isn't a physical problem, which I'm afraid it is) happened.

You are the man. Thank you. This solved the problem. You just need to make sure it rebooted first as I wasn't seeing the yellow triangle until I rebooted. I then followed all your instructions and presto - just like magic.

Man, thank you so much! Huge problem for me was this issue started happening when I was logged out of Win 10 so I cannot get in. Thankfully, I still have a USB keyboard as a workaround so I can log in. The same fix of uninstall, re-installing the driver fixed the issue for me too!

. I held down the 'Volume Up' and 'Power' buttons as you suggested. The laptop shut down in about 10 seconds. I continued to hold he two buttons down and the laptop continued to boot up into an odd mode I have not encountered before. I take it that is the UEFI mode you referenced. The laptop trackpad was working in that mode. I did not have anything to type to confirm the keyboard working in that mode. I selected 'Reboot' (or something similar, I don't recall) and the laptop then rebooted into into Windows with both the laptop keyboard and trackpad working.

Thanks so much, huge help! I use Driver Easy to update my drivers. I used to have a Surface Pro where the wifi driver would automatically uninstall itself so I'd have to manually reinstall it. Such a pain in the ass. I had to reinstall the Surface Hid Mini Driver (which was saying it was installed in the device manager but had an unknown error) and rather than searching all over Microsoft forums to find the driver download, I just found it and installed through Driver Easy. Hopefully that is helpful to others!

It worked. I did have to go through another step as I couldn't get into the laptop as I was unable to type in my password. I had to use an external keyboard before I could see your excellent advice.
This started happening to my Surface Laptop this past Monday, and it took me a while to get drivers from the actual Windows site. It happened again and then I found this video! This really helped me right away! So thank you!!! I'm still curious about why this is happening though... 🤔🤔
