    - Shampoo + condition
    - Plop 10 mins
    - Gently apply foam, then open palm scrunch. Make sure to apply to back/underside of hair from different angles.
    - Diffuse on hot without touching hair, slightly cupping hair then on low to 90% dry

    this is what i was doing at the beginning of my curly journey. I wasnt using cg products but the technique saves lives.
    now i like styling in the shower using gel and I get pretty good results so far. also mel's diffuse technique is great.
    I don't really like using mousse for wash days anymore but it's perfect for refreshes since it gives a light cast and I love all types of casts. the harder they are the better because i feel like it helps me keep my hair from dropping since I am at the beginning of my cg journey

    You need less help than I do. I have barely wavy hair now that it is grey. It used to wave much more and without help. I put mine back in a plop once it is diffused dry but still slightly damp, and I keep it in the plop for around an hour sometimes more. This seems to set my waves better and gives it more waves and lift. It does drop over the course of the day but I just style it differently as the day goes on i.e put it behind my ears or add a hair band or scarf. I am taking on board some of your very good tips. I have been using this method for only a few weeks. I have already had the compliments in my new wavy/curly hair. I feel like my real self once again. It definitely is more work on wash day but worth it in my (very new to CG) opinion!

      Cassy Green oh my goodness you are so sweet. My hair wasn’t always this shiny. In fact it keeps getting shinier and shinier the longer I do the curly girl method. I don’t think it’s any one product that causes the shine. Just healthy hair habits. No heat, silicones, drying alcohols, etc. That being said I think my hair really likes being clarified, deep conditioned, and apple cider vinegar rinses. 🤷🏼‍♀️

    I just watched 2 of your videos and have a couple questions. I also discovered I have naturally curly hair by accident. I have waist length virgin hair, fine, medium density, and high porosity. And I'm old. Thank the hair goddess, it's still light brown so people think I color my hair, until I show them the whole length, dispersed shiny shiny white ones. I'm interested in bigger, loopier, clumpy curls, so want to try this method, but I simply cannot hold a blow dryer up that long due to some health problems. Can I apply styling product before plopping and sleep in the plop? Top volume is not going to happen (or stay) because of the length anyway. Also, you said protect your hair while sleeping - how? Thank you so much for this information, and your hair is amazing!

    • @RylieCollins
      @RylieCollins 5 лет назад +2

      Cyn McCollum I don’t have a diffuser. What I do is I wash my hair early in the morning or in the evening (around 5-7pm). I plop my hair for 10-15 minutes then I use root clips (gives 10/10 volume) then I just let my hair air dry (I apply my products while my hair is still dripping wet). If you chose to do it before bed just pull your hair up in a non damaging satin scrunched and sleep on a satin or silk pillow case. In the morning you can just spray your hair so it’s wet (doesn’t have to be dripping) I then apply a bit more of my products (styling cream and gel) then I scrunch and that’ll typically dry in like 15-30 minutes to dry. I hope that helps. I’m still new to the whole curly girl method but maybe it’ll help!

I just cut my hair and permed it from butt length to chin length because I was so tired of the tangles and flat lifeless nature of my hair that made it horrible to deal with. Not to mention the amount of hair I lost all over the house. I wore it up on top of my head all the time so I figured what was the point of having such long hair. Normally I would wash my hair, put my hair into a shower cap so it doesn't get soap on it and then do the rest of my body,...and any hair styling would come after my shower. A looser bun/ponytail with a soft hairtie that won't break your hair(so for example a scrunchie) is fine actually! you just don't want it to pull your hair back too hard because that could cause breakage

    I hope some day my waves look like yours, mine look like yours when wet but they slowly fall down through the day, I'm suspecting a product I'm using is weighing them down, I have very fine hair and at the moment no layers so thats not doing the waves any justice.

    Do you wash your hair upside down in the shower also? I struggle with how to part my hair, it usually ends up down the middle. Also, can you suggest an affordable deep conditioning mask with NO protein in it? I am lacking moisture!!

    So, you don't comb your hair at all? I always have knots. Or feel the need to comb. My curls are a perm, though, not natural lol

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 лет назад +3

      I just use my fingers to comb the conditioner through. This conditioner has soooo much slip! It makes it super easy to detangle my hair. I do sometimes use a wet brush to distribute the conditioner in my hair which might work for you too!

    So you rake your conditioner through your hair and it doesn't break up your clumps?! I always have the tendency to rake mine through my hair, but I stop myself because I want to preserve the clumps as best as I can! Interesting. :) Also, no leave-in conditioner? I'm going to try to copy this routine. :) Thanks!

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 лет назад +2

      Kristin Higgins yeah I know this seems crazy! Haha when I first started I couldn’t rake in anything! Now I ONLY rake in my conditioner. And rinsing it out with tons of water really really helps bring all the clumps back together. And sometimes I will add a tiny pea of conditioner back to my hair if I am having ridiculous amount of wet frizz. But if there is only a little bit of wet fizz then I don’t worry about it.

      I think its because she holds it up when washing the conditioner out. It re-clumps up if that makes sense.

    So sorry if this was already asked: have you ever done this without diffusing? If so, what happened? Sometimes I don’t have that 15!!

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 лет назад +3

      thenacat shoot I haven’t tried it without diffusing! I find that diffusing is something I do when I style my hair. When I go product free I do tend to air dry and that may actually be a faster routine. But if I’m adding any stylers to me hair I will go a head and diffuse. It give me a better result I think. 🤷🏼‍♀️ sorry about that.

    If you have long hair does it matter for curl pattern? My hair it to my elbows. I like having long hair. It dries wavy and straight combo. I have never done curly girl method stuff. I do typically air dry and have never died my hair. My hair like yours was board straight until teen years. I assume I have similar 2a,b and maybe some C patterns. Roots are always FLAT and my hair gets weighed down and oily easily. I wash about 2-3 times a week but hair is oily by day 3 for sure so those are pony tail days!

      Conscious Health Writer thank you! I did use a conditioner after I cleansed my hair in this video. And I do a deep conditioning treatment every two weeks. • @ConsciousHealthWriter
      @ConsciousHealthWriter 5 лет назад

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney thank you! But for someone who has frizz, would you say I would need to put a leave in conditioner, styling gel and mousse to keep my hair frizz free, or at least looking presentable? 🙈

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney
      @SwavyCurlyCourtney  5 лет назад +2

      Conscious Health Writer oh you are absolutely welcome to add a leave in and gel if that helps you with your frizz!!! I was shocked at how well my hair held up with just a mousse. And only having the mousse in my hair helped my hair dry much quicker than normal. I like saving this routine for when I am really needing to rush out the door. But if you have a couple of extra minutes I believe a leave in and gel would be very helpful!!!

      @@SwavyCurlyCourtney thank you. I'm so glad I found you! My hair is very fine as well, and high porosity. Now I'm having to start to cover little greys here and there and can't go all-natural. I'm trying different things trying to not distrou my hair, as I've done in the past. Do you have a blog or know of a blog/article that mentions a list of the products we need to stay away from? Or an app or website with "hair product ingredient safety" or something like that? Sorry for all of the questions!

    • @SwavyCurlyCourtney

      Conscious Health Writer no please don’t be sorry for asking questions! The best place to start is by reading the Curly Girl Handbook book (link in description). That will get you started on learning the basics and which ingredients to avoid. This blog is amazing right here: themestizamuse.com/ Verna talks about a tons of stuff. Buckle you seat belt. It’s like drinking from a fire hydrant. Haha! Another resource that has helped me out a lot is: science-yhairblog.blogspot.com/?m=1 so so helpful. And lastly I love using: www.isitcg.com to see is something if cg friendly or not. It’s not a perfect website and has missed stuff before so be careful. But it is still helpful nonetheless!
