I see everyone start diffusing from ends to roots but I was told many years ago that doing so dries out the mid shafts to ends so much which is bad. I was told it’s best to start diffusing from roots to ends because by time roots are dry then your mid shaft to ends(oldest hair) won’t need as much heat and time spent diffusing because most mid shafts to ends have air dried while diffusing the roots. So cool blasting is mainly needed on oldest parts of strands which is less damaging!
Maaaybe, but if you’re talking volume, ends-to-mid-shaft (I tried doing it that way before) sure does dry my hair quicker, like a lot quicker, but it looked droopy and flat! That’s my experience.
I'm so jealous!! My wash takes about 20 minutes by itself! Granted, I do wash and shave, but it's so my conditioner can sit. I plop while I get dressed, then it's time to go diffuse for...as long as it takes. I diffuse to 100% dry because I have the opposite problem as you--if I don't, I get frizz! I let it usually sit and cool for about 15 minutes. All in all, if I'm just washing, I plan an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half. I loved seeing this!!
Words cannot express how thankful I am to have found you ~ other than being over the moon happy at the clear, thorough, real information on the CGM given in your videos, i also checked out your podcast and literally cried when I found out that you are a Christian as well! This is very encouraging to me, and I am planning to start CGM soon with your advise...maybe while I'm diffusing my hair I can listen to it!!! Much love and adoration for you, your curls, and your faith ~
Girl how did it only take you 10 minutes to wash, condition and put gel in your hair. That takes me like 30 mins and then I have to do my other shower things
Yes, the same. Mine takes 20 minutes only to wash my hair and condition. To save time I put my hair on a bun after I apply conditioner or hair mask and let it there to soften before detangling (which takes 5-10 minutes) while I am washing my body. If I didn't do it I would need 30 minutes. Then product application takes 5-10 minutes and need at least half an hour to diffuse. Having thick, coarse, long, curly hair is so exhausting.
I have to admit that I am def one of those people who wondered if the process was worth it for my own waves lol I appreciate this content. I have definitely incorporated several of your tips!
This is my exact routine lol but I use mouse 😛 also I’m too lazy to diffuse so I sit in front of a hot air fan/ electric heater to “diffuse” while I’m on my phone watching RUclips 😂
lol I sit in front of a fan and diffuse for about 10 mins then finish up in front of the fan. I like to use mouse also but I put some gel on top of it so I have some hold. Im sure im wasting a lot of mouse but I think it works for me.
I’m in awe at how fast your hair routine is compared to mine 😭 I have to spend at least 15 minutes detangling (I both dry brush before I get in the shower and have to after my hair tangles from shampooing). If I have the effort to diffused I can hover diffuse AFTER plopping for 30 minutes and I usually give up after the 40 minute mark since there’s rarely any difference between how dry it is before and after.
The fact that she can rake through it while wet before shampoo has always been wild to me. I, too dry brush before the shower and as soon as it gets wet, it's like OKAY EVERYBODY TANGLE TOGETHER QUICK lol!!!
@@jflo2012 See, I have high porosity hair and have never had tangles when it's curly or straight. I never thought much about tangles until seeing all of the discussion about tangles in CGM groups. It's weird how different hair can be from one person to the next.
Just started on my curly journey. Does anyone else have one side that curls beautifully and one side that goes nah! Not playing this game! Driving me insane!
Just sorted out my own problem. In desperation as I was out I grabbed some hand cream and put some on the errant side, smoothed it gently with hands and have it a scrunch. Success!
Silly girl, I love you! Yes, I was getting ready to type a comment to ask how long to finish air-drying until you scrunch. I work in a professional setting, and I'm still insecure about embracing my natural 2A hair. On days when I'm going to see customers or upper management, I revert back to using heat (hot rollers, curling or flat iron) on my hair, and I want to completely break the cycle because it keeps setting me back. This was a very helpful video to get me past the phobia of how long this method takes to get ready in the morning for work.
It definitely took me longer in the beginning, and now it goes pretty quickly. I barely ever have tangles anymore and I know how I like it styled, and it does not take much time!
You've been such an encouragement to me to not give up on the curly (wavy) girl method! Especially seeing that it doesn't have to take that long. Thank you!! :)
Helpful for me! I just replaced my over 20yo dryer and got one with a diffuser. Now I’m off to do my wash, but in the shower. I can’t stay bent over for that long. I do, however, after washing my scalp well, let it sit for a minute or two while I wash my face. Then I condition before washing my body, making sure to comb it through. I just need to add in some extra “squish to condish” time before that. I’ll edit and let you know how it worked.
Thank you for this.. I did hair for 15 years. So feels sooo funny to be looking up how to start doing my hair wavy 😂but!! I didn’t realize how wavy my hair is!! I honestly thought a lot of the wave I had for years, was due to coloring excessively for years and all the heat damage I did to it. Fast forward 6 years of now being a stay at home mom. And no color, no heat damage 98% of the time. And my hair is STILL frizzy and huge and poofy. And due to health issues, I can’t physically do my ‘usual’ routine of blow drying and straightening anymore. So been trying a million methods (not really. Probably like 5) to see what works for my hair. Seeing all the steps you take lets me have ‘aha’ moments of what worked in the past for me, and why* certain things aren’t working for my hair. Thank you 😊 trying this now.
Im so happy to see your hair up in a bun. Im day 1 new to this and currently live with my hair up 80% of the time. Hoping this method changes that but still want to be able to do buns and ponytails here and there!
I used to do that when I was a girl, why I stopped doing that??.... now my hair is so sad! But Im starting the curly method!! Im excited 🥰😁😃 Thank you for all your videos.

I leave the house with crunchy hair all the time! 😄 My daughter has to be at work halfway through the day and sometimes it's just not long enough for it to dry. I air dry more than you did though. I think I air dry to like 75%, diffuse for another 20%, then let that last dampness air dry out.
You had me cracking up at the fake ending 😆 My hair is wavy, but the texture is pretty rough underneath for some reason, and is always a tangled mess because of that, it seems. I haven’t found a conditioner that makes my hair soft and untangled easily and quickly! At least not like the days when I used to use silicones. Thats probably going to be the reason I’ll end up going back to them, after several years.
Wow! I only watched once, but you only rinse conditioner out for ~20 seconds?! I heard you say it kind of disappears in your hair as you s2c, but I’d still expect some more rinse time. That is something I may try and adjust...
Air drying time totally does not count. Also, I was a little worried you wouldn't show us the final results. I'm super excited to see the comparison of all your stylers!!
Courtney, you inspire me to start wearing my hair curly again. It used to be a breeze to wash and style it when it was shorter, but now it's hip length and just washing and detangling takes 2 hours 😳 So I just keep it in a braid or bun 99% of the time now 😂 I have a couple of formal events coming up, so I would like to "re-train" my curls to look nice again 😌
I am glad you’re using the Mop Top today bc it reminded me to ask a question 🙋🏼♀️ I have about this styling product. I have heard you previously say Mop Top Custard is a nice product. I thought about ordering it on Amazon but it’s ingredient list shows glycerin as the second ingredient. Do you only use MopTop in the fall during cool days? What’s your experience with it as far as it as being bad with humidity?
Same girl, and it really is crazy the difference heat and speed makes. I tried to diffuse my hair on low heat, low speed, and 45 mins in my hair is still as wet as when I started. So I decided to listen to what I’ve heard on this channel and I can get to about 75% dry in 20 mins. Life changing!
@@imyourhappydrug oooh yeah, I commented on a Lus video where the girl diffuses her wavy hair in like...seconds lol and I couldn’t believe it. Lus replies, do you plop? That might help...I was like yeah, I actually plop twice bc the first one is soaked through so I plop again with a fresh dry one 😂 they didn’t reply again haha
Thanks for doing this. I have been waiting for someone to do a routine without edits! I can't believe how much you squish. I am going to try that this week. Can't wait to see the results. ❤
I'm sure after you've been caring for your hair this long you know how healthy and hydrated hair feels. So she knows how if feels with other conditioners + leave-ins, and I'm guessing it feels the same with just that conditioner on its own. It's definitely a lot of experimenting and experience.
If I use leave-in it makes my hair greasy. You can also feel how moisturized your hair feels after you condition it in the shower. If it already feels really smooth and slippery you may not need leave in
I love this! Really helps me with my process. I'm just starting to do this curly/wavy girl method.. again. I've tried it various times but didn't follow through. I'm just wondering if you have a suggestion for us girls who shower at night time and how to sleep with curls. Should I sleep with wet curls and plop overnight? Also, what should i do if I don't have a diffuser? Or do you have a video for that? Thank you so much if you read this. Appreciate your time! 😁
NO...not at all. The air dry is different for everyone and I thought this video was wonderful. Thank you so much for demonstrating I'm not the only one who looses hair in the shower. LOL. Well you got me I thought it was over. Your curls are gorgeous and you were one of the first curlies I started following. I forgot without having to take a deep dive what is the density and porosity of your hair? I think mine are 2b and my porosity is low and density is I have no clue. LOL ;)
Out of curiosity, ever timed how long it takes to dry your hair using anything other than a Dyson? I keep reading how they dry hair faster than pretty much anything else. I'm thinking that's how you managed to diffuse in a bit over 10 minutes while it takes all of us much longer. I usually quit at around 20 minutes because of my wrists and shoulders and at that point it's maybe 80% or so dry.
You’re so cute! Thanks for the video AND I love that you’re using only three products. Girl, I’m so over having product product product.... it really is about keeping it simple. Be blessed and stay safe
Courtney you mentioned some ingredians wich make your scalp itchy in one of your last videos... what was that? I've been experience this the last time myself and I don't know why 😕 Love your videos by the way! 🥰
Loved the video. Would have actually loved to see the diffusing in real time, since I’ve been struggling with it! Some parts dry way more quickly, other parts won’t dry at all and sometimes I have no volume at all, and other days all the volume. I don’t do much different between those days I think.. so I would love to see your process in real time and actually follow along 😁
I feel like the original Dyson is reducing your diffusing time. I heart you saying in previous videos that you diffused for 30 minutes. Is that true or did you change your diffusing routine to a more efficient way? I noticed that diffusing is slightly different from your diffusing video.
I currently dont own a diffuser (I'm getting one for christmas because I'm poor lmao) so I have to air dry my hair. I have medium density low porosity hair so that will probably have a part to play in this but my hair takes about 4 hours to dry. This makes it VERY difficult to wash my hair on a schoolday as I'm currently doing my gcses and find it hard to make time outside of my homework and revision. I'm hoping and praying that as soon as I get a diffuser I can make time to wash my hair more regularly because at the moment I'm going 4 to 5 days without washing for the plain reason that it takes literally forever to dry. Sorry for the rant and love the video🖤 Update: I got a diffuser for christmas and it is a LIFE SAVER! Now I can wash my hair any day of the week without worrying about having to go out before it dries because I can dry it in 30 minutes. If anyone hasn't got a diffuser I am telling you now that it will change your life
I have actually heard that you can put a sock over your blow dryer and that behaves like a diffuser. you can also take a strainer and use it like a diffuser as well. That might help! What do you think?
Omg we have the same hair type and my hair too takes the exam same time to dry! I wash mine twice a week on Wednesdays and Sundays so I can take my time to wash my hair peacefully on the weekend at least. Maybe wash your hair in the evening so it dries by nighttime?
Thanks for sharing your hair wash routine. I actually let my hair air dry for a couple hours, then I diffuse for 20 mins.... its never 100% dry after I diffuse, but enough to scrunch out the crunch... I had my second deva cut 2 days ago and the stylist actually dries my hair from wet.... but my hair turned into a frizz ball within 30 mins after I left the salon... I don't think it was completely dry... Oh well, I might do a wash day tomorrow lol Love to try new products and techniques. Not found yet what works best fo rme, so always enjoy your videos. I would much prefer a wash and go type of wash day... but that won't happen with curly hair lol
So random thing for everyone saying their washing takes longer, you may have lower porosity hair, which makes it take longer to get fully wet and take longer to rinse. Courtney only ran water over her hair for around 30 seconds, I know mine takes longer than that.
I can be done with my wash day in about 45 minutes. I do the same. I let my hair cool from diffusing and finish air drying a bit before I scrunch it out and finish with a hairspray. I can diffuse in about 20 minutes as well. But, it took me much longer before I got my Dyson and I got worse results. The faster drying also helps me with definition. My hair is only at about my collar bone when curly, but it is about 1 1/2 to 2 inches longer if straightened. It's coarse and high porosity and 2C. So, I didn't think that taking 40 minutes to diffuse was reasonable. My old dryer was not great. My Dyson literally cut that in half and it looks so much better.
starting around month 5 of CGM I now shed a lot less hair. So now a year and a half later I barely shed mcuh hair. I think its because my hair is healthy now
If I diffuse for 10-15 mins it takes 3-6 hours to dry even if I don’t use gel. Do you think a better blowdryer would help or does it have to do with my hair porosity?
Your hair always looks amazing! And I love your videos too 😊 I left a comment on a video a while ago but realise I need to ask on most recent ones! Anyway, my question is do you dye your hair and if so what would you recommend that is least damaging to hair?
It looked like you used both the Black Orchid and the Dyson diffuser during your diffusing. If so, why? Do you use them for different things? I am considering getting a Dyson but I love my Black Orchid and I'm not sure if I will like the Dyson diffuser.
That was great because sometimes I feel like it takes me absolutely forever to do my hair! I really like the one and done styler method especially when I'm short on time which is usually! Hahaha right now I'm having trouble with curl enhancement and hold so I'm not sure I'm ready for a one and done yet...
I don't count the time I let my hair air-dry after diffusing--which for me takes less than 30 minutes--because like you, I move on to doing other thing to get ready: choosing an outfit, putting on makeup, ironing, etc. I can see, however. how people with low porosity, very dense hair would HAVE to consider all the extra time their hair takes to be completely styled and finished, because if it takes 3 or 4 hours to dry, they would have to start early in the morning to leave at midday, and cannot wait until 7 pm to start washing if they want to go to bed (with dry hair ) by 10 pm. So, determining "how long" one's routine takes depends on one's lifestyle and hair type.
I have such baby fine strands that micro towels and t shirts remove too much water BUT I do find paper towels work great for my fine strands. A trick I been using for years!!
How do you dry so fast? It takes me at least 40 min to get to 80-90% dry :( My guess is maybe because you have fine hair and I have med. coarse hair? Unless you have some other ideas 😅 Please share! I do microplop, i don’t like to plop all the way bc my hair already naturally wants to lay forward, and actually plopping kills all the volume and enhances that flat forward roots :/
I also try to rake the hair off the back of my head but that busts up the curl clumps I have and it is hard to get them back...but if I don't get the hair off the back of my head when I style upside down then when I flip back up the back is a mess! I am not sure if I am still in transition or what...

Hey I've been searching for "aloe free" curly girl approved products and I came across a brand called Im bue from the UK, was wondering if you'd try that out in one of your wash days? I really love your videos and style of doing them, I also ADORE your curls (really hope mine can go back to looking like that) my hair was wavy ringlets when I was a teenager until I chemically straightened it (my bad) now it's fried from bleach in June and lots and lots of hair straightening with straightening irons - really trying to get it healthy again and I just LOVE your curls. I have wavy hair anywhere from 2b-3A I'd say but it's obviously a big huge mess now, hoping I can get my hair to grow out fast so I can continue on a clean slate lol
My big question is this: considering that assume that you wash & condish while your in the shower, do you dry yourself off and get dressed before or after you scrunch your product in?
Didn't realise how long you squish to condish... just tried this and my hair looks sooo much better. Thank you Courtney x
Glad I could help!
I have very high density low porosity hair and you were ready to dry at 10 minutes and that BLOWS MY MIND
@@baozi5536 like if I add up an estimate my time minus airdry is 1h45min plus 2 hr airdry makes the total time before I can live life almost 4 hrs
Best ever! I just did what you did and have had my first good wash day since February 1st when I started! Thanks!
Thanks for doing this. I have been waiting for someone to do a routine without edits! I can't believe how much you squish. I am going to try that this week. Can't wait to see the results. ❤
a year later, how does your hair look and feel after squishing?
You said you didn't need a leave in with that conditioner......how do you know that? How can you tell if you need a leave in or not?
I'm sure after you've been caring for your hair this long you know how healthy and hydrated hair feels. So she knows how if feels with other conditioners + leave-ins, and I'm guessing it feels the same with just that conditioner on its own.
It's definitely a lot of experimenting and experience.
If I use leave-in it makes my hair greasy. You can also feel how moisturized your hair feels after you condition it in the shower. If it already feels really smooth and slippery you may not need leave in
YES! All in good fun I did think you were not going to show the ends results😂. You had me going there, lol.
LOL ;)
Your hair looks like silk! So pretty!
Your makeup looks fantastic! So pretty ❤️
You should try the Rizos Curls line! It doesn't have a gel and i wonder how your hair would look without one!!
Your eye make up looks amazing today!♥️
I feel the same way! Courtney, please show and/or tell what you use for your eye makeup, please?!
Thank you. Note to self, squish to condition longer and don't use so much gel..really helpful video. Thank you.
You’re so cute! Thanks for the video AND I love that you’re using only three products. Girl, I’m so over having product product product.... it really is about keeping it simple.
Be blessed and stay safe
Your hair is so shiny mine is justtttt curly enough to where it doesn’t have too much shine😪
I've noticed that less time I take to wash and style my hair, better are the results!
I love your hair, I just started the curly hair process, any tips?
Courtney you mentioned some ingredians wich make your scalp itchy in one of your last videos... what was that? I've been experience this the last time myself and I don't know why 😕
Love your videos by the way!
Sorry for the rant and love the video🖤
Update: I got a diffuser for christmas and it is a LIFE SAVER!
@@SwavyCurlyCourtney I used a strainer for a few months then i went to sallys and got the $ 12 collapsable rubber diffuser it works good for me
@@A.R.S.1309 I wash my hair on Wednesdays and Sundays too!
I have the world’s cheapest diffuser. It’s called a Hot Sock. Fits most dryers. Look it up on Amazon.
I loved seeing this in real time! Could you tell me the what you used to connect the diffuser to the Dyson blow dryer?
Her partner added magnets to the diffuser since the Dyson blower is magnetic, if I remember correctly
I love your channel and have been following you for quite some time. How did you know to start measuring out a teaspoon for your styler?
I am from Austria and I REALLY LOVE watching your videos!! 😍🤩😍🤩
I ❤ your videos and you! But... I have coarse hair. Do you have any coarse hair wavy channels to recommend? P.S. You're still my fave 😘
So random thing for everyone saying their washing takes longer, you may have lower porosity hair, which makes it take longer to get fully wet and take longer to rinse. Courtney only ran water over her hair for around 30 seconds, I know mine takes longer than that.
That diffuser looks amazing! If it us attached to your Dyson how did you do that??
I think its because my hair is healthy now
Just used my Microfiber Towle today. It made such a difference
Hey gorgeous! Waco Tx here. I love your videos and have tried a few routines!
How can you do everything upside down? I tried it and I got vertigo for like 1 hour
My hair is more curly so it takes me about 1 hour for my routine, this is the reason why I do wash day 1x a week.
Courtney, how do you know when use leave- in or not? Depends on how much detangling the conditioner on hair?
I have such baby fine strands that micro towels and t shirts remove too much water BUT I do find paper towels work great for my fine strands. A trick I been using for years!!
What is that adapter you’re using for the black orchid?? 😍😍
I appreciate this! And no, not cheating 🥰
You are so goofy, I love you!♥️
This is the 3rd vieo I have watch of yours and I did, I bought the perfect haircare towel.
Amazing video but you don’t need the suds in shampoo for it to clean that’s just for affect of feeling like you are actually washing your hair
If you use medium heat, how long do you stay in one place while pixie diffusing?
The upside down hair wash, killing hamstrings across the nation!🤣
Hey, I just learned that my hair is curly as well. Do you have a recommended video that you have created to show curly hair washed day for beginners?
Welcome! It's a journey! I have quite a few videos for just starting out. These are a few newer, updated ones! ruclips.net/video/roMjPCZ-lbY/видео.html The Beginners Guide To Curly Hair
ruclips.net/video/VGT0URQd1Rc/видео.html Swing Curl Clump Method -- Hack to Styling Wavy Curly Hair
I’m new and actually would love a video of how to diffuse and what I need to do so.
That squishing sound though!! 🤣
I know...pretty cringy!
My big question is this: considering that assume that you wash & condish while your in the shower, do you dry yourself off and get dressed before or after you scrunch your product in?
