Hubsan Zino Battery Charging on YOUR Charger - Hubsan Zino Pro and Others

- This video shows you how to make a non-destructive adapter for your drone battery charge cable enabling connectivity to standard hobby grade chargers. The parts only cost a few dollars--links below.
Consumer grade chargers that comes with most drones charge their drone batteries; however, they provides no information about the condition of those packs, the charge rate being used, and they lack the ability to discharge an unused battery.
The adapter made in this video takes basic soldering skills and enables you to:
1) Use your standard desktop charger and take advantage of its capabilities to understand the condition of your battery. For example, standard IR measurements can be taken.
2) Use your desktop charger to fully or partially discharge unused batteries to the proper storage voltage.
3) Manually control your charge rate (amperage) according to your understanding of the battery capabilities.
PARTS:
Use any mains wire capable of supporting your desired charge rate. Just keep in mind the wires to the battery are never larger than balance leads so I would recommend keeping the amperage down to the level supported by your balance lead gauge.
20awg Silicon Mains Wire 10' Red and Black $5.98

3s Balance Plug Extension (5pack) $7.70

I see that you’ve upgraded your Helping Hands device. Nice one.
I did, and glad to have the new tool. So much nicer (and heavier) than the old tool.
Great info BTW.
Thanks! I feel much less twitchy about charging the drone batteries now. Just need to get a few more of the proprietary cables and another battery or two and I'll be in business.
Is it correct when the Battery is charging all 3 lights are flashing red? And when 100% charged the all lights will be green I suppose?
clever :)
Can I use h117s batteries with the zino pro?
Sorry, don't know. I don't have any h117 batteries.
I'll be doing this. Thank you.
I just made my 2nd one. I didn't separate the red and black leads, I just skinned the sleeve off in two different locations, soldered on my mains, wrapped in electrical tape, then applied heat shrink to the whole middle section of the balance lead. That worked well, took half the time.
IMPORTANT: Keep your charge/discharge amps to 1.5 or less. We had a discussion about this and subscriber Chuck believes anything 2a or higher can smoke the connector. I've been running up and down at 1amp without issue.
Hi great video I see a 3 way adaptor for charging zino one batteries on the standard charger would you recommend it..?
I don't understand your question. Can you rephrase it?
@@RCVideoReviews good morning ok I see a standard hubsan zino charger with a 3 way charging for connecting three drone batteries to the charger for charging three batteries at the same time using the standard hubsan zino charger
@@RCVideoReviews it was simple would pr can you use the standard hubsan zino charger to charge batteries like a hobby charger you are showing here..?
@@abitofeverything2254 Those little toy chargers that come with these drones are pretty awful. They have something like a 0.5a charge rate. They take something on the order of 3 hours to charge a single battery. I guess if time isn't a factor you could use it to charge multiple batteries.
@@RCVideoReviews 0.5a unbelievable
Can the charge cable and this mod work with Zino Pro Plus 5000mah batteries.
The technique can. I'm not sure if the wires are identical, but yes, those are just 3s batteries.
@@RCVideoReviews can you teach me how to add an external hobby grade battery for zino pro plus ?
Why does my charger say Abnormal battery connection.
Is there an active hubsan group where I can find assistance with the drone? Many thanks
Zino pro is always showing aircraft disconnected. Any help will be appreciated
Not that I know of
Thank you
Anywhere I can buy those adaptors?
They are available on Thingiverse: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4036111
If you know anybody with a 3D printer, they can print them for you. They're free.
@@RCVideoReviews that was for prop cases ...
@@eltocado I just clicked on it and it opened to the Hubsan Zino Pro Prop Storage Clip on Thingiverse. It is Thingiverse item 4036111.
@@RCVideoReviews I get what you meant. My bad, I'll reformulate my question. I'm looking to buy the a ready made cable like the one shown here . I would like to buy a proper balance charger to use with my zino pro batteries , however I dont have the skills or tools to make this cable adaptors. I had a good browse but I cant find this anywhere
. Thanks in advance .
@@eltocado I'm sorry Alex, I thought you were asking me about the prop clips. I've had that question a hundred times. I don't know about finding the battery charge leads online.
Be careful how many amps you set it to. Anything near 2 amps will smoke the zino connector.
Thanks for the info Chuck. Do you have personal experience with this? I’ve charged up and down at 1 amp so far without issue.
@@RCVideoReviews yes. The ballance lead wire you are connecting to is only 18 gauge and starts to heat up around two amps and will melt the connector. You'll notice that batteries that connect the mains have wires at least double the diameter. 1 to 1.5 amps should be fine.
I used 20awg for the main connection and that wire is thicker than the balance leads. So I think the balance leads must be 22 or 24awg. When I checked the charts, multi core 20awg showed good for 11amps. So I planned on the balance leads being the fuse. I may have to run a test...I’ve got a few spare jst extensions.
@@RCVideoReviews right, the the weak point (and the part that smokes) are the thin connections inside the stock cable where it connects to the battery and from their into the battery. There is no way to beef that up. I ran into this problem and ended up finding someone else who tried it and posted pictures on a Zino Facebook page. I'll see if I can link you to it. (pictures sometimes speak louder then words)
I totally get what you’re suggesting. Just offering clarification that the balance lead wires must be thinner than 20awg. Ie I believe they’re 22 or 24. I was hoping someone would pop in and offer insight as to the limits of the stock cable. I was careful in the video to say I’d stick with one amp while I get to learn the battery for exactly this reason. Thanks for sharing the info.
